Social worker Katherine Cook
Retired social worker Katherine Cook, 82, who lived in Clifton for 30 years, died at her home in Durham, N.C., on Aug. 9.
The founder of Meals on Wheels at the Clifton Senior Center, where she was board president, Mrs. Cook worked for Bethesda Hospital as the director of volunteers.
She was involved in a refugee resettlement program through the Methodist Church in Cleveland shortly after World War II. While living in Cincinnati, she coordinated the Cambodian resettlement program for the southeastern conference of the United Methodist Church, including opening her home to refugees over the years.
Mrs. Cook also worked as a volunteer social worker for the Salvation Army's Christmas program.
She held a bachelor's degree in social work from the University of North Carolina and was an active board member of the University of Cincinnati's Faculty Wives Club, Church Women United, Emanuel Community Center and Cincinnati Women's Club.
She leaves daughters Ann Krebs and Katherine Leith of Chapel Hill, N.C.; son, Robert Cook of Amesbury, Mass.; and four grandchildren.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Spring Grove Cemetery and 3 p.m. Saturday at Clifton United Methodist Church, followed by a reception. Mrs. Cook was cremated in North Carolina.

Brother Gilbert Joseph Gensler, teacher
Marianist Brother Gilbert Joseph Gensler died Monday in Dayton, Ohio. He was 82.
The Pittsburgh native taught at the old Purcell High School from 1944 to 1951 and again from 1955 through 1956. He taught, coached baseball and was an orphanage prefect during a career that also led him to Brooklyn and Mineola, N.Y., and Cleveland.
After retiring in 1991, Brother Gilbert worked at a bookstore. The graduate of the University of Dayton earned a master's degree in education from Western Reserve University in 1950.
In 1978, Brother Gilbert received the Marianist Generation Award from St. Joseph High School (Cleveland); the St. Joseph High School Man of the Year Award in 1984 and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame four years later.
He leaves his sister, Mary Magdalene Gensler, of Pittsburgh.
Mass: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, following a half-hour visitation at Mount St. John, Queen of Apostles Chapel, 4435 E. Patterson Road, Dayton. Memorials: Society of Mary (Marianists).

Robert Carlson, civic leader in Greenhills
Former Greenhills mayor Robert G. Carlson, 70, died of a heart attack Saturday while running a road race, his family said.
Mr. Carlson was mayor from 1972-1973 and 1980-1985. He was a retired manager and senior engineer with GE Aircraft Engines in Evendale. The World War II Navy veteran also was an engineering consultant to Woodbine Labs and held a doctorate in metallurgical engineering.
The civic-minded Republican was in and out of village government for over 20 years, including his election as a council member and all of its standing committees.
One of his passions was running and he collapsed Saturday during the Forest Park Charge.
He leaves his wife, Lynn; daughter, Sheri Holmes of Wausau, Wis.; sons, Robert of Sarasota, Fla., and Larry of Medina, Ohio; brothers, William of Brooklyn, N.Y., and John of Rockaway Beach, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
Services: 7 p.m. today at Northminster Presbyterian Church, Finneytown. Mr. Carlson will be cremated.

Elmer Wirth, played euchre, danced
Elmer M. Wirth, a master euchre player and accomplished dancer, died Tuesday at his home in Ludlow, Ky. Mr. Wirth, 79, grew up in Western Hills, attended Western Hills High School and worked in Cincinnati at City Haul Trucking Co. for three decades.
Mr. Wirth, a father of 10, also served in the Army during World War II and earned two bronze stars. A daughter, Margaret Huff of Hebron, Ky., said her father became a champion euchre player and a talented dancer.
Other survivors: sons, Stevan of Burlington, Marty of Florence, Gary of Latonia, Thomas of Union, Michael of Erlanger, and James and Vincent both of Ludlow; daughters, Rita Gorley of Bradenton, Fla., and Mary Clark of Covington; a sister, Deloras Wirth of Cincinnati; 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Molodetz began political club
William F. Molodetz, a retired typesetter and a founder of the Colerain Township Democratic Club, died Tuesday at age 87.
Mr. Molodetz lived in White Oak and was a typesetter for the Cincinnati Enquirer. He enjoyed farming and caring for animals as a volunteer at the Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve.
Mr. Molodetz grew up in Northside and, during World War II, served in the U.S. Army with the
military police at a base in Evendale.
He leaves two daughters, Wilma Burbage of White Oak and Carol Zito of Florida; a brother, Carl Molodetz of New Work; granddaughters Teri Gehring and Sandy Burbage of Colerain Township; two great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Services were today at St. James Church in White Oak.
