Eugene G. Smith, retired engineer
Eugene G. Smith, a retired aerodynamics engineer with General Electric in Evendale, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital. He was 68 and lived for years in Ft. Thomas.
A son said Mr. Smith had a keen mind and used that to learn to build and repair things. He could sew, fix appliances, repair cars and build additions to houses.
"He sewed wedding dresses for three of his four daughters," said a son, Thomas Smith of Wilder.
Mr. Smith was born in Covington and raised his family in Ft. Thomas.
Other survivors include his wife, Jean Smith; sons, Eugene Smith of Ft. Thomas, Michael Smith of Milford, Mark Smith of Berkeley, Calif., and Patrick Smith of Alexandria; daughters, Kathy Stucker and Mary Maudlin, both of Bellevue, Pam Adams of Independence and Patricia Miller of Ft. Thomas; and 18 grandchildren.
A mass will be at noon Saturday at St. Anthony Church, Bellevue. No visitation. Memorials: to the American Heart Association, Ft. Wright, Ky., 41011; American Cancer Society, Florence, Ky., or Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. Radel Funeral in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Alice McCartney, educator for 40 years
During her long career in education, Mary Alice McCartney touched thousands of lives with her devotion to learning and to children. Ms. McCartney, 89, died May 18.
Ms. McCartney followed her mother's footsteps into education and spent most of her career, which began in 1933, in the Cincinnati Public Schools.
She was one of the youngest educators ever to become a principal in the city schools after teaching first at Evanston Elementary and then Columbian School. She retired in 1973 after working for more than 20 years at Eastwood Elementary.
After retirement, Ms. McCartney traveled throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. She also worked part time for the Hamilton County Treasurer until 1994.
She leaves her nephew, Gill Gibson of Boise, Idaho; and nieces, Peggy Eubank and Mary Grace Kappes, both of Covington.

For Rose A. Brauch, dying wish was fulfilled
Rose A. Brauch was able to realize her last wish - to see her mother for the first time in 28 years.
Mrs. Brauch, 45, of Bellevue, Ky., died Friday at her home. She had been stricken with Lou Gehrig's Disease a year ago and became bedridden.
Thanks to her husband, Robert, and members of the Bellevue Fire Department, which had a fund-raiser, Mrs. Brauch's mother, Anna Pasca, was able to travel here this month from Romania and spend the last few days with her daughter.
"She hadn't seen her mother in 28 years, and it was her last wish," said Robert Brauch.
Mrs. Brauch came to this country as a teen-ager and worked for years at the now-closed Joyce Ann Inn in Highland Heights, Ky.
Before becoming ill, Mrs. Brauch had been a nurse's aide with Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights.
Mrs. Brauch was a charter member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Bellevue Fire Department. She also was a member of the Bellevue Boosters at Belle vue High School, where all of her children attended. Mrs. Brauch also coached volleyball with the Bellevue Vets.
In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include sons, Chris Brauch of Alexandria, Ky.,and Steven Brauch of Bellevue; a daughter, Lisa Brauch of Ft. Thomas, Ky.; brothers, Simior Pasca and Gregori Pasca, both of Romania; and a grandchild.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Eugene and Mary Jo Burg, crash victims
Visitation for a Cincinnati grandfather and daughter who died together in a Tennessee highway crash last week will be held today at St. Aloysius Church in Bridgetown.
Mass for Eugene "Butch" Burg and his granddaughter, 17-year-old Mary Jo Burg, will be held Wednesday.
The two were traveling in a car together last Thursday when it was clipped by another auto trying to pass it on Interstate 75 near Chattanooga. Their car flipped and crashed.
Mr. Burg, 68, of Price Hill, is survived by daughters, Eugena Graham and Theresa Giglio; and a son, Rich Burg.
Visitation is 4 to 9 p.m. today at Schmitt Hall, St. Aloysius. Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Aloysius. Arrangements: Rebold Funeral Home.

Leroy Seiter, Kentucky fiddler
Leroy Seiter never learned to read music, but the fiddler was a respected musician who played regularly on stages in Northern Kentucky.
"He loved playing the fiddle," said his wife, Joyce Seiter of California, Ky. "His dad had been a fiddle player, and he used to take his dad's fiddle and sneak off to the barn and practice."
Mr. Seiter died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas. He was 66.
He developed his talent for music at a young age, and it became one of his life-long passions.
Among the highlights of his musical career were his performances about 15 years ago in two plays at NKU, "Dark of the Moon" and "Diamond Studs." He also performed with the Orange Blossom Special at Kincaid Lake Park in Pendleton County for about four years.
Other survivors are his sons, Tim Seiter of Alexandria, Rick Seiter and Ron Seiter, both of California, Ky., and Dan Seiter of Taylor Mill; daughters, Mary Ann Mullins of Covington and Susan Adkins of Loveland; brothers, Ray Seiter and Nick Seiter, both of California, Ky.; sisters, Dorothy Hunt of Newport, Hilda Britton and Gert Gebelt, both of Alexandria, and Catherine Kramer of California, Ky.; and nine grandchildren.
A mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, California, Ky. Visitation: 4-9 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Memorials are suggested to the church building fund, California, Ky. 41007.
