George W. Humm, stock consultant
George W. Humm, a New Richmond resident who served as a consultant and arbitrator for the New York Stock Exchange, died Sunday at St. Theresa Center in Mariemont. He was 80.
Mr. Humm worked for Merrill Lynch Co. for 45 years, including six years as manager of the Brooklyn, N.Y., branch of the company in the mid-1960s. He also was responsible for the start-up of the company's Dayton office.
Working for Merrill Lynch was very much a family affair for Mr. Humm. His father worked for the company before him, and his daughter, Sara J. Humm, now works for the firm.
Mr. Humm became a consultant after retiring from Merrill Lynch.
Mr. Humm was a member of the Cincinnati Stock and Bond Club, the Batavia Rotary Club, and the New Richmond Kiwanis. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a major in the Quartermaster Corps.
Other survivors include his wife, Jane W. Humm; sons, George R. Humm and Peter F. Humm; a brother, John Humm; sisters, Kay Mull and Frances Fitzgerald; and two grandchildren.

John A. Shellenberger, GE retiree
John A. Shellenberger, 75, a retired employee of General Electric and Army veteran of World War II, died Saturday of a heart attack.
The Covington resident also was a member of the Lions Club of Springdale-Forest Park.

Dr. Clifford Grulee Jr., was UC medical dean
Dr. Clifford G. Grulee Jr., dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine from 1963-1973 and recipient of the school's Daniel Drake Award, died Jan. 2 after a long illness. He was 85.
The Chicago native trained to be a pediatrician at Children's Hospital in Boston and served in the
military, directing research into aviation medicine.
Dr. Grulee was assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Texas, and at Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans; professor of pediatrics at Tulane; dean and professor of pediatrics at Louisiana State University Medical Center.
He also served as dean and professor of pediatrics at the University of Illinois School of Medicine until his retirement in 1982.
After retirement, he received UC's Drake Award and Medal and the title of dean emeritus.
Dr. Grulee and his staff were responsible for obtaining the financing for the new College of Medicine building and their efforts set the stage for more building programs at UC.
He was a member of many social and literary clubs and served on numerous local and national committees. The 150-year-old Cincinnati Literary Club was his favorite and he contributed many professional and personal papers to it.
He also enjoyed horseback trips into the mountains of Wyoming.
Dr. Grulee leaves his wife, Mary Lewis Grulee, and a grandchild.
