Anita Eversull, 102, music teacher
Anita Mueller Eversull, singer, musician and teacher who once hosted the famed Russian revolutionary Alexander Kerensky, died Friday at the Presbyterian Home just two months short of her 102nd birthday.
Mrs. Eversull was the widow of the Rev. Harry K. Eversull, who was former president of Marietta College, pastor of the Walnut Hills Congregational Church, and executive of the Council of Churches of Greater Cincinnati.
Wherever her husband was pastor or minister, Mrs. Eversull was a member of the choir, church soloist and music teacher.
"Her life was filled with music," said her son, Rev. Robert E. Eversull of Greensburg, Ind. "She was a remarkable woman, and she had a wonderful life."
The St. Louis native first taught in a one-room schoolhouse before attending Northwestern University, majoring in music. She married the Rev. Eversull in 1920 and the couple came to Cincinnati, where he became pastor of the Walnut Hills Congregational Church.
In 1937, Rev. Eversull became president at Marietta and entertained many campus speakers. Among them, Mrs. Eversull's son recalled, were the Grand Duchess Marie of Russia and the revolutionary Alexander Kerensky.
"I remember as a boy sitting at Kerensky's feet and listening to his account of his escape from Russia," Rev. Robert Eversull said. "It would make your hair stand on end."
In 1942, the couple returned to Cincinnati, where Rev. Eversull became executive of the Council of Churches and Mrs. Eversull taught voice at the Conservatory of Music of Cincinnati and music in the Cincinnati Public Schools. In 1945, Rev. Eversull became the minister of the First Presbyterian Church of Walnut Hills and Mrs. Eversull sang in the choir.
Mrs. Eversull, after the death of her husband, moved into the Presbyterian Home in 1969. She leaves another son, Gilbert R. Eversull, of Cincinnati, and a foster daughter, Sue Spencer, of Arcanum, Ohio.
