GE retiree Robert Stephens put family first
Robert D. Stephens, a retired engineer with General Electric, was a quiet, humble man who took care of his family.
"He kind of stayed in the background all the time but he was always there," said his daughter, Lola Knauer of Cleveland. "He could be counted upon by family, friends and neighbors, too, to just be there. He didn't win the Boston Marathon or anything, but he was just faithful in doing his duty as husband, father and provider."
Mr. Stephens, 78, of Cold Spring, Ky., died Monday. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, Alexandria, Ky., VFW Post 3205, Alexandria, Alexandria Lodge 152 F&AM, Scottish Rite, Covington, and Syrian Temple, Cincinnati. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
He also leaves his wife of 55 years, Allie L. Stephens; a sister, Lola Baber of Covington; and two grandchildren.

Rev. Donald A. Tenoever, teacher
The Rev. Donald A. Tenoever, 70, a priest and teacher in Greater Cincinnati, died Monday from complications following brain surgery.
Father Tenoever was pastor of St. Joseph Church in North Bend until his retirement in 1994. He had served as pastor of St. Louis Church, downtown, and associate pastor of St. Boniface Church, Northside. He also had taught at Purcell High School and the former DePorres High School.
Most of Father Tenoever's was spent at St. Gregory Seminary, where he taught from 1959 to 1980.
"One has only to think of his work on the restoration of the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains, for example, in order to realize that the epitaph . . . could be ascribed to him: "Lector si monumentum requiris, circumspice.' (Reader, if you seek a monument, look around you)," said Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
"For my part, I will remember Don as a good priest, an engaging college seminary professor, a great cook, and a dear friend."

Dewey Ables Jr., businessman
Dewey Ables Jr., 71, of Glendale, died Monday at his home. A native of Meridian, Miss., he had been a resident of the Hamilton, Ohio, and Glendale areas for 42 years.
Mr. Ables was a barber, formerly with the Ables and Gleaves Barber Shop in Hamilton. In 1970, he and his wife, Eleanor Ruth Ables, founded the Ables Beauty and Barber Supply Co., which became one of the largest suppliers in southern Ohio. The couple operated stores in Pleasant Ridge, Lockland and North College Hill.
A person with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. Ables became a role model for many in the community, and was philanthropic in his church and community.
When illness forced him to retire from his business, Mr. Ables donated a van to St. Phillip CME Church in Hamilton.
Mr. Ables was a member of the church, a life member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and was affiliated with the Better Business Bureau of Cincinnati. He was active in the Lockland Business Association and the Meridianites of Cincinnati. Mr. Ables was also a former maintenance man with the Hamilton Board of Education and Wilson School.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, Charles R. Ables of Atlanta; and a sister, Bernice Ables James of Southfield, Mich.
