Richard L. Haas, managed auto dealership
Richard Louis Haas, a retired business manager with Rockcastle Oldsmobile-Cadillac in Florence, Ky., didn't let a disability hamper his life.
Mr. Haas, 67, lost his left leg when he was 30, yet worked every day through good weather and bad, and made time to dote on his children and grandchildren, said his wife of 47 years, Irene Kelly Haas.
"He was the type of person you could lean on," she said.
Mr. Haas, of Bellevue, died Monday.
He had worked at Rockcastle Oldsmobile-Cadillac for about 20 years before retiring two years ago.
He also leaves a daughter, Mary Ann Wilson of Ft. Thomas; sons, Richard Haas of Aurora, Ind., and Gary Haas of Loveland, Ohio; sisters, Helen Seider of Highland Heights, Ky., and Ruth Feder of Woodland Hills, Calif.; a brother, Bernard J. Haas of Ft. Thomas, Ky.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Robert J. Brady, Miami professor
Dr. Robert J. Brady, 70, professor emeritus of microbiology at Miami University, died Tuesday at his home of cancer.
Dr. Brady was chairman of Miami's microbiology department from 1972-78, then returned to full-time teaching and research. He retired in 1993.
A member of the Miami faculty since 1957, Dr. Brady was honored in 1981 by the American Society for Microbiology with its Carski Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest such award nationally.
"Bob was a superb teacher and someone who gave freely of his time," said a friend, Dr. C. K. "Bud" Williamson. "He was a very patient, quiet, devoted teacher."
He was also a man possessing a dry wit, Dr. Williamson said, always ready with a quick and often pointed response to any statement.
Dr. Brady was a former Oxford City Council Member, having been appointed to fill a vacant position in 1971, and was elected to a term later the same year. He went on to serve for five years. Dr. Brady was a member and a past president of Ohio Branch of the American Society for Microbiology.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Latchney Brady; sons, Tom Brady of Chicago and Brian Brady of Cincinnati; daughters, Kathleen Chrisman of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Brigid Brady of San Francisco; and four grandchildren.

Vira Mae Whittington Tew, of Linden, N.C., died Wednesday at her home after a short illness. She was 82.
Mrs. Whittington, a native of North Carolina, was a member of Sardis Women of the Church in Linden, and a volunteer with Good Hope Hospital in Erwin, N.C. She had worked at David Flower Shop, Aman's Florist and Flowers by Taylor, all in Dunn, N.C.
Survivors include a son, Dr. John M. Tew Jr. of Cincinnati; a daughter, Barbara Tew of Charlotte; a sister, Esther Shugart of Erwin, and six grandchildren.
