H.M. Jones, businessman, minister
Rev. Howard Malcolm Jones, a former Cincinnati businessman who became a Methodist minister late in life, died Thursday. The Plainfield, Ind., resident was 83.
Rev. Jones had served simultaneously as a branch manager of the Wiedemann Brewery Co. and Director and Vice President of Cardinal Building and Loan Co. in Cincinnati for nearly 20 years before joining the ministry in 1969.
For the next 12 years, he ministered to several churches in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church, including Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church in Cincinnati.
He moved to Michigan in 1981 to continue his ministry.
Rev. Jones also was active in the community. He was a past master of Mariemont Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 707 and a charter member of Royal Arch Mason of Mariemont.
He was a member of Mariemont Lodge and founder of Syrian Shrine Temple Syncopators Band.
Survivors include his wife, Rev. Shirley Ellis Jones; sons, Jerry Jones of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Robert Jones of Cincinnati; daughters, Judy Adams of Mesquite, Texas, and Peggy Robinson of Cincinnati; a stepson, Mark Sherrick of Greenup Ill.; a stepdaughter, Barbara Simmons of Dietrich, Ill.; a sister, Alice McKinney of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services: 2 p.m. CDT May 24 at Hope United Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, Ind. Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield is handling arrangements.

Joseph Albertz, proofreader
Joseph Albertz, a retired proofreader for The Cincinnati Post, learned his craft as a teen-ager working at his father's print shop.
Mr. Albertz, 93, of Price Hill, died Thursday.
He began as a typesetter, working at his father's business, the Henry Albertz Printing Co., then began working with Breitenbach Printing before he came to work full time at The Cincinnati Post as a
linotype operator.
Mr. Albertz served on the negotiating committee of the Typographical Union. He was a member of the Northside Knights of Columbus for more than 70 years. He retired from The Post in 1974.
Upon his retirement, he was active in gardening and was especially fond of growing spruce trees from seedlings that he would donate to relatives and friends.
Mr. Albertz enjoyed barber-shop quartets and singing by the piano with his family, especially at Christmas. He enjoyed spending time with his 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Rose; sons, Joseph Albertz of Price Hill, Ed Albertz and Mark Albertz, both of Delhi; a daughter, Janet Cavanaugh of Westwood; a brother, Ferdinand "Fuzzy" Albertz; and sisters, Marie Grever and Florence Hackman.

Charles W. Craig, 50, of Symmes Township, collapsed while jogging Friday and died.
Mr. Craig was chief technology officer and vice president at Western & Southern Life Insurance Co.
He leaves his wife, Leslie Pryzbek; children, John, Katie and Lauren; mother, Theresa Thomas, and brother, James Craig, both of Connecticut; and sister, Nellie Craig of San Antonio, Texas .
