Louis Spinner, Dent businessman
While Louis B. Spinner served as a U.S. Army major in Paris during World War II, he devised a scheme to get much-needed clothing and shoes from the families of American soldiers to French children.
Mr. Spinner, who died May 2 at age 84, would obtain liquor from the nearby English military and trade it to members of his command. In return, his soldiers would have their families send clothes and shoes to them and they gave it to the major.
He managed his makeshift relief effort with the help of two members of The Post staff at the time, Bev Ewald and Eleanor Bell.
For more than 30 years, Mr. Spinner also operated the Spinner Tile and Marble Co. in Dent with his two brothers, Walter J. Spinner and Lawrence N. Spinner.
Mr. Spinner, originally of Cheviot, died at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home. He lived in Union Township, Clermont County, before moving into the nursing home.
Survivors include two sisters, Estelle Ehrman of Park Hills, Ky., and Rita Leinenbrink of Lake Placid, Fla.

Dr. Lonnie M. Wright, a former president of Children's Hospital Medical Center, died May 4 at his home in Brownsville, Texas .
He was assistant director of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center until 1976, when he took the post at Children's. He served there until 1983.
Dr. Wright, who was a former Wyoming resident, was later associated with Bethesda Hospital. He also was a member of the Cincinnatus Association.
"Lonnie was the warmest person I have ever known," said long-time friend J. Brendan Ryan, of Hyde Park. "He had a magnetic, personable personality that made his employees love and respect him. And, after he left Cincinnati, he always had a warm spot in his large heart for his former home."
