William Neal Vannett

William Neal "Bill" Vannett, 57, of Van Wert died at 11:44 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert.
He was born Jan. 24, 1946, in Celina, the son of Lorena Katherine (Zumbrink) Vannett of Coldwater and the late William Franklin Vannett. On April 13, 1969, in Mendon, he married Pamela Jean Thomas, who survives at the residence.
Mr. Vannett, a U.S. Navy veteran of both Vietnam and Desert Storm, retired from the U.S. Navy in 1991 with over 30 years of service and had worked at Coldwater Lumber. He was a graduate of Coldwater High School.
Other survivors include two sons, Brian Neal Vannett of Rockford and Brad Alan Vannett of Van Wert; two sisters, Sharon Thomas of Coldwater and Jane (Ronnie) Norton of Celina, and two grandchildren, Hannah Vannett and Taylor Vannett.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Carla Depweg.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, the Rev. Jim C. Burns of Liberty Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, with
military graveside services by the U.S. Navy.
Calling hours are 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
CONVOY - Cecille Jeanette Allison

Age: 85
CONVOY - Cecille Jeanette Allison, 85, of Convoy died at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital.
She was born April 6, 1917, in Mendon, the daughter of the late Orville D. and Nora B. (Reed) Foley. On Jan. 26, 1936, she married Harold D. Allison, who preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1982.
Mrs. Allison was a homemaker and farmed for many years with her husband. A member of Convoy United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, she was a loving mother who taught laughter and good values for living to her children.
Survivors include two sons, Robert W. (Kay) Allison of Convoy and Paul D. (Beckie) Allison of Clearlake, Fremont, Ind.; three daughters, Linda L. (Charles) Baer and Beverly K. Allison, both of Convoy, and Betty Jo (Malcolm) Banta of Holland, Mich.; two sisters, Lillian (Walter) Hartsock of Convoy and Ruth (Nolan) Burley of Van Wert; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick James Foley, and four sisters, Bernice I. Putman, Lucille Cox, Esther Scott and Mabel Marie Dull.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Convoy United Methodist Church, Convoy, the Rev. Gregory Leigh officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Convoy.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Cowan & Son Stainfield Memorial Home, Convoy, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Preferred memorials are Convoy United Methodist Church or Convoy EMS.
GOMER - Orman L. Renner
Died: Tuesday, January 28, 2003
Age: 84
GOMER - Orman L. Renner, 84, of Gomer died at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center.
He was born April 11, 1918, in Mandale, the son of the late Oscar and Jessie (Caskey) Renner. In 1945 he married Margaret Jane Lewis, who preceded him in death on May 12, 1993. He later married Margaret Lloyd, who survives in Gomer.
Mr. Renner was a farmer for 65 years working with his father and two brothers. He was also employed for a short time at the Lima Ford Engine Plant.

Sister-in-law - Carol Renner
Three grandchildren, Cynthia (Scot) Neubert, Traci (Bart) Wheeler and Jerrod Renner, two great-grandsons, Evan and Alex Neubert, and many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by a son, Allan Keith Renner in 2002, one brother, Dale Renner, and two brothers-in-law, Richard E. Lewis and Merlin Benroth.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel, the Rev. Brian Knoderer officiating. Burial will be in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer.

GENEVA, Ind. - Homer H. Rice, Jr.
Died: Monday, January 27, 2003
Age: 74
GENEVA, Ind. - Homer H. Rice Jr., 74, of Geneva, formerly of Mendon and St. Marys, died at 2:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Adams County Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Ind.
He was born Oct. 19, 1928, in Neptune, the son of the late Homer H. Rice Sr. and Annabelle (Stoner) Rice. On Aug. 12, 1950, he married Patricia J. Emans, who survives in Geneva.
Mr. Rice retired from Goodyear in St. Marys after 27 years.

Thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Rice.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Randy Christian of The Lord's Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Hamilton-Bethel Cemetery in Union Township, Mercer County.
Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
MIDDLE POINT - Harriet I. Thatcher

Age: 83
MIDDLE POINT - Harriet I. Thatcher, 83, of rural Middle Point died at 8:33 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Lincolnway Nursing Home, Middle Point.
She was born July 27, 1919, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Glen E. and Beryl (Martin) Hanby. On Nov. 10, 1937, she married Floyd E. Thatcher, who preceded her in death on March 28, 1989.
Mrs. Thatcher, a lifetime resident of Van Wert County, was a homemaker and a member of the former Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two children, Danny L. (Phyllis) Thatcher and Clair O. (Diane) Thatcher, both of Middle Point; four grandchildren, Melanie Miller, Kevin Thatcher, Craig Thatcher and Christie Wendel, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Thatcher, a sister, Margaret Morris, and a granddaughter, Carla Kay Thatcher.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Donald E. Taylor

Age: 77
Donald E. Taylor, 77, of Van Wert died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Middle Point, the son of the late James and Esther (Knittle) Taylor. On Nov. 14, 1947, in Van Wert, he married Carol A. Spieth, who survives.
Mr. Taylor was the owner and operator of Taylor Auto Sales in Van Wert. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was a member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert, the Van Wert Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and the Van Wert Elks Lodge.
He was a Friend of Starr Commonwealth School, a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, a member of Independent Auto Dealer Association, a former grand marshall of the Van Wert Peony Festival and an escort for the queen and her court for all Peony Festival activities.
Other survivors include three children, Gary Lee Taylor, Linda (Robert) Schick and Vickie (Bob) Foster, all of Van Wert; one brother, Marcus (Bonnie) Taylor of Middle Point; four grandchildren, Shad Foster, Brad Foster, Kelli Chiles and Greg Karnes, and one great-grandchild, Olivia Chiles.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Dr. James C. Dunaway officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, with
military graveside services conducted by combined units from the Van Wert American Legion and Van Wert Veterans of Foreign Wars posts.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are Starr Commonwealth or Van Wert Rotary Club.
Grace B. Waymire

Age: 93
Grace B. Waymire, 93, of Van Wert died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at the Van Wert Manor Nursing Home, Van Wert.
She was born June 21, 1909, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Carey) Allison. On May 16, 1931, in Van Wert, she married Paul D. Waymire, who preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1965.
Mrs. Waymire formerly worked at G.C. Murphy 5&10 Store in Van Wert and at Butler's Bakery in Van Wert. A member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Van Wert, she was a life member of United Lutheran Church Women, a member and former board member of the Van Wert YWCA, a former Girl Scout leader, a member of the Van Wert American Legion Auxiliary, the Republican Women's Club, Women's International Bowling Congress and served on the Van Wert County Board of Election for 50 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Marcia (Lewis) Elston of Middle Point, Nancy (Larry) Coplin of Convoy and Karen (John) Linton of Van Wert; one brother, Barney Allison of Ocala, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Warren Willis of Chicago, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Waymire, six brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Van Wert, the Rev. Joe Wilck officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church.
Preferred memorials are St. Mark's Lutheran Church or the Van Wert County Cancer Society.
