Gertrude Patton

DELPHOS — Gertrude "Gertie" Patton, 76, of Delphos died at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Lima Manor.
She was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Fort Jennings, the daughter of the late Chris and Beatrice (McElwain) Wieging. On Oct. 16, 1948, she married Louis Patton, who preceded her in death on July 6, 1985.
Mrs. Patton was a beautician. She owned the Beauty Bungalow and was in business for 40 years.
Survivors include:
Son — Gordon (Nancy) Patton of San Jose, Calif.
Daughters — Cheri (Carl) Core of Delphos and Elaine (Stephen) Sams of Hamilton
Sisters — Margaret Edelbrock of Findlay and Mildred Dunn of Fort Wayne, Ind.
Four grandchildren, Josh, Chris, Katie and April Patton, two stepgrandchildren, David (Denise) Core and Anita Rupp, and three stepgreat-grandchildren, also survive.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Baumeier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, the Rev. Randy Geisige officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Delphos.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Harter & Son Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday and a Catholic Ladies of Colombia service also on Tuesday.
Lucile Konetia (Ketzenbarger) Hepperly

Age: 93
UPPER SANDUSKY — Lucile Konetia (Ketzenbarger) Hepperly, 93, of Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky, formerly of Van Wert, died at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Fairhaven Community. She had been in failing health for the past three months.
She was born June 11, 1910, in Union Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late George W. and Ida B. (Sherburn) Ketzenbarger. On Dec. 24, 1932, she married Delmer Burdette Hepperly, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1989.
Mrs. Hepperly was retired. She had previously been an Avon representative, housewife and employed in farming. A graduate of Union High School in Van Wert County, she was a member of North Union Methodist Church in rural Van Wert and past member of the Union Township Grange. Lucile was a lifetime resident of Union Township until moving to Upper Sandusky in 1992.
Survivors include a foster son and daughter-in-law, William R. Booher and Sharon Booher of Nevada, Ohio; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Erma (Ketzenbarger) Gilbert, who died in 1966 at the age of 58.
Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert.
Preferred memorial is North Union Methodist Church in Van Wert County.
Marian L. "Marylou" Tarlton
Died: Friday, September 26, 2003
Age: 71
SCOTT — Marian L. “Marylou” Tarlton, 71, of Scott died at 7:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert.
She was born June 20, 1932, in Hoaglin Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Eugene P. and Marcile (Gause) Akom. On July 3, 1953, she married Robert E. Tarlton, who survives in Scott.
Mrs. Tarlton was a homemaker and avid camper.
Other survivors include a daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Burdge of Van Wert; two sons, Kevin (Deb) Tarlton and Scott Tarlton, both of Scott; four grandchildren, Kandi Lautzenheiser, Joseph Tarlton, Mandi Danylchuk and Kendra (David) Wessel; seven great-grandchildren, Harley, Alicia, Jordon, Mia, Chelsea, Gabrielle and Marcus; three brothers, Donald Akom and Richard Akom, both of Scott, and Daniel Akom of Marion.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Alice Mullen and Becky Ladd, and three brothers, Robert, James and Maurice “Scud” Akom.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Terry Martin officiating. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery, Scott.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Scott EMS.
James R. Conner
Died: Thursday, September 25, 2003
Age: 62
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — James R. Connor, 62, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in his residence.
He was born Oct. 30, 1940, in Lima, the son of Esther M. (Rowe) Connor of Paulding and the late Russell T. Connor. In 1958 he married Julia A. Brown, who survives in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Connor was a retired executive director of quality control for GM, Saginaw, Mich. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

Sons — Steven E. Connor of Phoenix, Ariz., Jeffrey A. Connor of Van Wert and Kevin D. Turner of Celina
Daughters — Treva J. Turner of Atlanta, Ga., and Nikia Brown of Lima
Brother — Michael E. Connor of Laguna Beach, Calif.
Eight grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by a stepsister, Jacqueline Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (EDT) Monday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, the Rev. Chris Norman officiating. Burial will be in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Grover Hill, with
military graveside services.
Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. (EDT) Sunday and 8 a.m. (EDT) to time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Billie Jean Houdeshell

Age: 69
CELINA — Billie Jean Houdeshell, 69, of Celina died at 7:55 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home, Morganfield, Ky. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Morganfield.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, and an hour prior to services Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home.
Anna Johnson
Died: Thursday, September 25, 2003
Age: 82
ST. MARYS — Anna Johnson, 82, formerly of Van Wert, died at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at St. Marys Senior Village.
She was born July 23, 1921, in Dusseldorf, Germany, the daughter of the late Frederick and Anna Dumschatt. She married Keith Johnson, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker.
Survivors include:
Sons — Heiko (Barbara) Pollem of San Diego, Calif., Harry (Paulette) Pollem of Albuquerque, N.M., and Frank (June) Mitchell of Rochester Hills, Mich.
Daughter — Anna Luedeke of St. Marys
Nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters and a brother also survive.
She was preceded in death by a son, Wolfgang Pollem, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Charles Richtmyer officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.

D. Joyce Holtkamp
Died: Wednesday, September 24, 2003
Age: 90
D. Joyce Holtkamp, 90, formerly of Van Wert, died at 12:08 p.m. (EDT) Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Casa Palmara Nursing Home, Del Mar, Calif.
She was born Feb. 21, 1913, in Tontogany, Ohio, the daughter of the late Allen J. and Katie (Sabin) Park. On Oct. 15, 1938, she married Lawrence “Larry” C. Holtkamp, who preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Holtkamp retired as a teacher from Lincoln Junior High School in Van Wert. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Van Wert, the Presbyterian Church Women’s Club, AAUW, YWCA, Retired Teachers of Van Wert, Willow Bend and Twig I. She was a graduate of Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green.
Survivors include two children, Philip (Susan) Holtkamp of Encinitas, Calif., and Kathryn Ann (James) Borden of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Helen Haver of Flagstaff, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Loren Thistle and Christopher Holtkamp, and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Haley Holtkamp.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucile Brown.
Services are to be held at a later date.
Preferred memorial is Organ Fund at First Presbyterian Church or Brumback Library.
