Lucien W. "Luke" Ellis

Age: 84
DELPHOS - Lucien W. "Luke" Ellis, 84, of Delphos, formerly of Mt. Sterling, Ky., died at 4:36 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Boulder City Veteran's Nursing Home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1919, in Kentucky, the son of the late Forest and Prudie (Clarkston) Ellis. He married Mary Jane Ellis, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Ellis was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include:
Daughter -- Ola (Patrick) Ellis of Las Vegas, Nev.
Stepchildren -- Lynn (Joseph) Wilson of Mt. Sterling, Pat (Bob) Poling of Delphos, Donald (Betty) Pierce of Forest Grove, Ga., David Pierce of Frankford, Ky., Nona (Frank) Lumpkins of Delphos, Sue Cooper of Indian Lake, Terry Pierce of Fort Jennings and Becky Stubbs of Harrod.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Carlyle Ellis.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos, the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery with
military graverites conducted by Delphos Veteran's Council.
Calling is 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Vernal W. Baker
Died: Wednesday, May 21, 2003
Age: 87
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - Vernal W. Baker, 87, of Brooksville died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, while under the care of Hernando Pasco Hospice, Brooksville.
He was born in Van Wert.
Mr. Baker, a U.S. Navy veteran, worked for the U.S. Post Office in the Orlando area.
Survivors include:
Sons - Barry W. Baker of Windermere, Fla., and Jon R. Baker of Astatula, Fla.
Daughters - Connie Hansen of Hilliard, Fla., and Betty L. Loflin of Lexington, N.C.
Sister - Marguerite Adams of Middle Point
Twenty-one grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Arrangements were handled by the National Cremation Society in Brooksville.
Audrie Leona High White Myers
Died: Wednesday, May 21, 2003
Age: 98
WILLSHIRE - Audrie Leona (Book) High White Myers, 98, formerly of Willshire, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born Jan. 20, 1905, in Mercer County, the daughter of the late James F. and Mary (Felver) Book. Her first husband, Doyt High, preceded her in 1925. Her second husband, Hershel Ernest White, died June 9, 1959 and her third husband, John Myers Myers, died in 1997.
Mrs. Myers was a homemaker. A member of the former Albion E.U.B. Church, she attended Willshire United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Wilma) White of Van Wert and Dennis White of Kendallville, Ind.; a stepson, Terry Myers of York, Pa.; one sister, Dolores Reichard of Rockford; 12 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Colin Blaine High, a stepdaughter, Jackie (Myers) Thompson, and two sisters, Lois Merriman and Ola Leah Book.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling hours are 3-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Mercer County Hospice.
Rev. Clifford Earnest Gustafson
Died: Saturday, May 31, 2003
Age: 72
DEFIANCE - Rev. Clifford Earnest Gustafson, 72, of Defiance died at 2:47 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Harborside Healthcare Center, Defiance.
He was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Elizabeth, N.J., the son of the late Clifford Earnest Sr. and Dorothy (Wyman) Gustafson. On Jan. 11, 1954, in DeRidder, La., he married Lorene T. Turner, who survives in Defiance.
Rev. Gustafson was an ordained minister and was a pastor for over 46 years in Staten Island and Yonkers, N.Y., Knoxville, Iowa, and Princeton, Ill. He was currently serving as the Compassion Services coordinator for the United Pentecostal Church International and as honorary senior pastor at the First Apostolic Church of Defiance for the last six years. He was an U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served as a control tower operator.
Other survivors include:
Daughter - Ann (Rev. Robert) Frake of Oakwood
Sister - Dorothy Frisch of Defiance.
Two granddaughters, Jacqueline and Gabrielle, also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Apostolic Church of Van Wert, the Rev. David Kuhtenia officiating. Graveside rites and burial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, with VFW Post 3360 conducting honorary
military graveside rites.
Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the church.
Virgil M. Springer
Died: Saturday, May 31, 2003
Age: 60
DECATUR, Ind. - Virgil M. Springer, 60, of Decatur, died at 12:55 a.m. (Indiana time) Saturday, May 31, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 17, 1942, in Adams County, the son of Elma Etzler Thieme of Decatur, Ind., and the late Virgil M. Springer. On April 27, 1969, he married Sandra K. Cookson, who survives in Decatur.
Mr. Springer, a U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1989 from General Electric Company after 36 years of service and was active in operating his farm in Union Township.

Daughter - Amy K. (Jack) Robinette of Decatur
Sisters - Anita (Mike) Miller of Decatur and Arlene (Clair) Dudgeon of Ohio City
Brothers - Alton Thieme and Floyd (Jane) Thieme, both of Decatur
One grandchild, Kortney Rose Springer, also survives in Decatur.
He was preceded in death by a stepfather, Arnold Thieme.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (Indiana time) Tuesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, the Revs. Matthias Snodderly and Martin Moehring officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with
military graveside services conducted by the color guard of American Legion Post 43, Decatur.
Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. (Indiana time) today and noon (Indiana time) until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mark D. Teets
Died: Friday, May 30, 2003
Age: 52
DEFIANCE - Mark D. Teets, M.D., 52, died at 8:42 p.m. (EDT) Friday, May 30, 2003, at Paulding County Hospital, Paulding.
He was born April 19, 1952, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of Edgar R. and Goldie M. (Burkholder) Teets, who survive in Sidney. On June 16, 1973, he married Sally Sue Wiesenmayer, who survives in Defiance.
Dr. Teets was in residency at Saginaw Cooperative Hospital of Family Practice Residency in Saginaw, Mich., from 1978-81, practiced medicine at Spencerville Family Physicians of Spencerville from 1981-91, Mark D. Teets, M.D., Inc. from 1991-2000 and at Oakwood Medical Center, Oakwood from 2000-2003. He was chief of staff at Paulding County Hospital from 2002-2003 and director of Occupational Health at Paulding County Hospital.
Other survivors include:
Sons -- Aaron Douglas Teets of Chandler, Ariz., and Nathan Ryan Teets of Indianapolis, Ind., a daughter, Erica Elaine Teets of Columbus and two brothers, Edgar B. Teets of Okeana and Benjamin R. Teets of Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (EDT) Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Paulding, the Revs. David Meriwether and Joseph Pumphrey officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco.
Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. (EDT) today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. (EDT) Tuesday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
