Laura Ruth Brueggemann of Westlake died at the Lutheran Home in that city on Saturday March 10th at the age of 101. She was born May 4, 1899 in Cleveland Ohio to Thomas Edwin and Anna May (nee Clifford) Stokes. She married
Rudolph Brueggemann in 1922 and they made their home in Lakewood, Bay Village and Rocky River. He preceded her in death in 1969. Their children are Clifford, Eugene, Thomas and David Brueggemann. Thomas and Clifford have also preceded her in death. She is survived by the Rev. Eugene and Lorraine Brueggemann of Ft. Collins, Colorado and David and Lillian Brueggemann of Bay Village, Ohio and also by nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her sisters Elizabeth Ayers and Edna Glesher have also preceded her in death as has her brother Thomas Stokes. She was a book keeper and home maker and loved to travel and tend her garden. A longtime member of the Lutheran Church her funeral service will be held on Thursday March 15th at 11:00am at Jenkins Funeral Chapel, 2914 Dover Center Road, Westlake, Ohio where family and friends will gather from 7-9pm on Wednesday March 14th. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lutheran Home, 2116 Dover Center Road, Westlake, Ohio 44145. Interment Lakewood Park cemetery.

Robert R. Ryan, 79, beloved husband of Barbara. Dear father of Harry (wife Mary Ann Sabat-Bryant)of Elyria and Robert Jr. (wife Marsie) of San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Bryant died Thursday June 1 at Lakewood Hospital, Lakewood, Ohio following a brief illness. He was born in El Passo, TX on July 10, 1920 and attended Austin High School in El Paso Texas 1933-1937, Texas A & M University 1937-1939 and Texas College of Mines 1939-40. He began his 45 year railroad career on the T&NO; Railroad a part of Southern Pacific as a locomotive fireman on March 11, 1941 and was promoted to locomotive engineer on March 11, 1944. Shortly after going to work Mr. Bryant joined the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen, Lodge 135 (now UTU Local 1918). After becoming active in union work, he was elected Local Chairman from 1945-1954. In 1954, he was elected to the full time position of Legislative Representative of Texas, and chairman of the Texas State Legislative Board from 1954-1962. At the 1959 National Convention he was elected to the position of Alternate General Secretary and Treasurer and became GS&T; in 1962, serving in that capacity until the United Transportation Union was formed in 1969. He served as a member of the 40-man unification committee, which designed the merger of the 5 railroad operating unions into the United Transportation Board. He served as Assistant GS&T; of the UTU until 1974, when he was elected by the UTU Board of Directors to fill a vacancy as Assistant President. In 1975, he was elected Assistant President of the UTU and remained in that position until he retired in 1986. Mr. Bryant was politically active when he was Texas State Legislative Board Chairman and enjoyed several appointments and Democratic committee memberships. He was in the US Army Signal Corps in 1946-47 and was a member for over 65 years of El Paso Lodge 1111 of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and Shrine. As a result of his activity in the Texas and National Fraternal Congress of America he was elected to the Board of Directors and later (1970) to President of the National Fraternal Congress of America, representing approximately 100 Fraternal Benefit Societies. He was also a member of Westlake Untied Methodist Church. He was a personal friend of President Lyndon Johnson and personally knew Presidents Truman, Nixon and Kennedy. In 1968-1969 he served as a labor representative on the National Golden Spike Celebration Committee.
