L. Charles Baumbach, MD, 76, beloved husband of Linda (nee Burzese). Loving father of Cynthia C. Greene (husband Carl), Susan C. Gfeller (husband Raymond) and Randall Baumbach (wife Karen). Dearest stepfather of Kathryn V. Jameyson (husband Russell), and Karen G. Virnoche (husband Timothy). Grandfather of Samantha and Lindsay Gfeller, Heidi and Carl Baumbach, Austin and Cassandra Jameyson, Clare and Brenna Virnoche. Memorial Service Saturday April 13th at 11:00am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 28455 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, Ohio 44145. Memorial Contributions may be made to the church. Dr. Baumbach was a veteran from the U.S.Air Force being discharged honorably in 1954. Dr. L.Charles Baumbach long time Westside Obstetrician. Dr. Baumbach practiced obstetrics and gynecology for more than 40 years (most of those years at Fairview General Hospital) He was born on June 4, 1923 in Franklin, PA. And graduated from Ohio University and earned his medical degree from Western Reserve University. After completing his internship and residency at St. Luke Hospital he served 2 years in the Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida as director of OB-Gyn Departments. In 1954 he relocated back to Cleveland to open his practice at Riveredge Medical Building across from Fairview General Hospital and served on the staff of Lakewood, Deaconess, St. Lukes, Marymount as well as Fairview General. In 1959 he moved his practice to the Westgate Medical Arts Building and used Fairview exclusively. He retired from private practice in 1986 and spent the next five years in the OBGYN out patient clinic at Fairview General. Those who knew him will remember his great love for the environment. An avid sportsman for many years he filled his patients ears not only with the capture but also with the culinary expertice to follow. He will be missed by many.

Richard M. Allen

Richard Martin Allen, a US Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific during WWII, died Feb 3 at St. John West Shore Hospital, Westlake from complications of leukemia at the age of 77. Survivors include his wife of 49 years Mae (nee Stinchcomb), sons David of Hudson and Tom of Dublin. One brother and two sisters, all of Canfield and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Beverly Graves and brother Charles Allen. In 1989 Mr. Allen retired from his role as a Commercial Loan Officer and Vice President at Huntington National Bank (formerly Union Commerce) after a 39 year career with the bank. Before his retirement, he also served as an Adjunct Professor of Banking at Cuyahoga Community College. He was a member of The Quarter Century Club at Huntington and the Robert Morris Association. After retiring he enjoyed traveling, bridge, gegeology and swimming at River Oaks Racquet Club. A native of Ellsworth, Ohio (near Youngstown), Mr. Allen attended Canfield High School and graduated from Hiram College in 1950 with a BA in Economics. He lived in Bay Village for 43 years, where he was actively involved as an Usher, Trustee and member of the Investment Committee and Boy Scout leader at Bay United Methodist Church. He and his wife moved to Avon Lake in 1999. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Memorial Fund at Bay United Methodist Church.
Pearl E. Aker

Pearl Aker was active in the Bay Village schools, first as a parent and then as a longtime employee. Mrs. Aker died November 11th from complications following an infection. Born Pearl Stephan in Pocahontas, VA on October 15, 1921 Mrs. Aker was raised in Cleveland. At Fenn College she majored in mathematics and was active in the Outdoor Club. After college she worked for WHK Radio as an executive secretary. In 1943 she married
Charles P. Aker. They moved to Bay Village in 1952 and were both active in civic, church and school activities. Mr. Aker was a councilman and Mrs. Aker served as President of PTA at all schools her three children attended. In 1968 she joined Bay schools and was the school secretary at both Glenview and Westerly Schools before retiring in 1988. Her husband died in 1974. Mrs. Aker was also a talented artist, creating original works in leaded glass windows, oil paintings, ceramics and other mediums. She enjoyed bridge, sewing, gardening and travel. Last year, she knit two afghans for her two oldest grandchildren as they headed off to college. With a keen interest in politics, she also was an election official in Rocky River, where she had lived since 1980. In retirement, Mrs. Aker remianed busy with family and volunteer activities. She was an usher at Playhouse Square and volunteered at Lakewood Hospital. Previoulsy at Bay United Methodist Church she had in recent years joined Rockport Uunited Methodist Church where she participated in Craft Group and Joy Circle. She is survived by her three children: Bobbi Campbell (John) of Wooster, Ohio, Charles S. Aker (Margaret) of Scottsdale, AZ. and Sandra Drake (Timothy) of Columbus, OH. Also surviving her are grandchildren Peter, Brent, Kimberly, Heather Campbell, Chase Aker, and Alison, Stephan and Elizabeth Drake, stepsisters Ethel Cifranic and Edna Arko, sisters in law Thora Aker, Alice Aker and Muriel Stephan and brother in law John Hakkio. Besides her husband she was preceeded in death by her parents, sister, brother and a granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9pm Friday November 17th at Jenkins Funeral Chapel, 2914 Dover Center Road, Westlake. At 9:30am on Saturday November 18th at graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted. A memorial service for Mrs. Aker will be held on Saturday November 18th at 2:00pm at Rockport United Methodist Church, 3301 Wooster Road, Rocky River with a reception following at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bay Educational Foundation in memory of Perl and Charles P. Aker, 377 Dover Center Road, Bay Village, Ohio 44140. The Rev. Joan Skelly-Watts will officiate at the graveside and memorial service.
