John Davis
Died: Friday, June 22, 2001

John F. Davis, 90, of 2380 S. U.S. Highway 68, Urbana, and formerly of 240 Park Ave., P.O. Box 358, St. Paris, Ohio, died at 7:15 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2001, in the Wellington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Urbana.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1910, in Dayton, Ohio, to Clifford B. Davis and Ellen (Platt) Davis, both deceased.

A 1928 graduate of Stivers High School, Dayton, he served as a sergeant with the United States Army during World War II. He retired in 1978 from the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he was employed as a traffic analyst. He was a member of Philip Grieser Memorial Post 7645, Veterans of Foreign Wars, St. Paris.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Brecount) Davis, of St. Paris, who he married on Dec. 24, 1948; one son and daughter-in-law, Wesley Glenn and Shirley Davis, of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two granddaughters, Andrea (David) Silvers, of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Kristi (Mark) Beck, of Inman, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Reggie and Janell Beck, of Inman, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Davis; and one sister, Mary Lotz.

Per John's request, his body was cremated and there will be no visitation or funeral services. RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, St. Paris, is serving the family.

Malcolm Kennedy
Died: Thursday, June 21, 2001

Malcolm R. Kennedy, 68, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2001, in his home. Visitation was held Sunday at Heritage Church of God, 3520 Strayer Road, Maumee, Ohio. Services were scheduled for 11 a.m. today, with burial following in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Heritage Church of God. Arrangements by the J. JEFFREY FRETTI FUNERAL HOME, 5045 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, Ohio.

Judith Lewis
Died: Monday, July 16, 2001

Judith I. Lewis, 58, of 139 W. Plum St., P.O. Box 36, St. Paris, Ohio, died at 4:49 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana.

She was born April 23, 1943, in Champaign County, Ohio, to Jacob Warren Lewis and Pearl Ruby (Urban) Lewis, both deceased.

A 1962 graduate of Graham High School, St. Paris, she was a former employee of Dan Adrian Refuse Service, BVD of Piqua, and Plastic Research of Urbana. She was a member of the St. Paris United Methodist Church, CEO of Graham Alumni Association, member of Order of Eastern Star Diamond Chapter 841 and Pythian Sisters Jewel Temple 307, both of St. Paris, and the JSP Fire Auxiliary, former member of the Kiser lake Saddle Club.

She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Wilma Lewis, of St. Paris; one sister, Annabelle I. Lewis, of St. Paris; two nieces, Melissa (Robert) Moody, of St. Paris, and Amy C. Lewis, of DeGraff; one nephew, Jay W. (Jennifer) Lewis, of St. Paris; one great-niece, Megan Hope Lewis, of St. Paris; two great-nephews, Jacob Moody, of St. Paris, and Joshua Thomas Lewis, of St. Paris.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001, in the St. Paris United Methodist Church, corner of Church and Walnut streets, St. Paris, with Pastor Tom Bolton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, St. Paris. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in the RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris.

Memorial contributions may be made to Johnson-St. Paris EMS, P.O. Box 271, St. Paris, Ohio 43072, or Graham Alumni Scholarship Fund, c/o Graham Alumni Association, P.O. Box 635, St. Paris, Ohio 43072. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Tom Bair, Bob Spurgeon, Jim Pence Jr., Mark Mahan, Ken, Grant and Beau Rogers and Maris Frank. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Wray, Dick Kizer, Scott Massie, Brad Zerkle and Karl Zerkle.

Vivian Reynolds
Died: Monday, July 16, 2001

Vivian G. Reynolds, 63, of 616 S. Roosevelt Ave., Piqua, Ohio, and formerly of St. Paris, died at 8:55 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, in her residence. There will be no visitation or funeral services. RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, St. Paris, is serving the family.

Edgar Ridder
Died: Monday, July 16, 2001

Edgar A. Ridder, 72, of 171 Pearce Place, Urbana, Ohio, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at 3:15 p.m. in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana, Ohio.

He was born March 23, 1929, in Tremont City, Ohio, to Adolph and Ethel Irene (Apple) Ridder.

He was with the Intelligence Division of the National Security Agency. He served eight years in the Army Security Agency and then went into the National Security Agency, in Baltimore, Md., retiring at age 45. He was a heart transplant recipient in 1988.

Survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Fields Ridder, of Urbana; children, Terri (Phil) Upchurch, Sherri (Kenny) Johnson, Danna (Ray) Adkins, Kelli (Phil) VanBuskirk, all of Urbana; grandchildren, Steve (Valeria) and Greg Upchurch, Tony Johnson, Shanna and Shane Glassburn, Chad and Nikki VanBuskirk; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Beck, of Springfield.

Preceded in death by his parents; grandson, David Johnson; two brothers; and three sisters.

Edgar was a member of the Champaign County Genealogical and Historical Societies.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2001, in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2001, at Oak Dale cemetery. Pallbearers: Steve and Greg Upchurch, Tony Johnson, Shane Glassburn, Ray Adkins and Phil VanBuskirk. Honorary pallbearers: Lance Cpl. Chad VanBuskirk, Phil Upchurch and Kenny Johnson.

Robert Tullis
Died: Monday, July 16, 2001

Robert E. Tullis, 75, of 5770 Storms Creek Road, Urbana, Ohio, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at 6:33 a.m. in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, Ohio.

He was born June 19, 1926, in Champaign County, to Mitchell and Edith (Walters) Tullis.

He was owner-operator of Tullis Trucking of Terre Haute.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Louise (Thornhill) Tullis, of Urbana; children, Thomas (Pam) Tullis, of South Vienna, Ohio, Emily Tullis, of Terre Haute, Ohio; grandchildren, Todd (Julie) Tullis, of Indianapolis, Ind., Lisa (Art) Donnan, of West Liberty, Ohio, and Ashlee Tullis; great-grandchildren, Brandon Donnan and Taylor Tullis; one brother, Richard Tullis, of Bluffton, Ind.; and a special friend, Bucky Nichols.

Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Melvin Tullis.

Robert was active in the Antique Tractor Pulling Club, a member of Terre Haute United Methodist Church and a member of the Senior Citizen Center, Urbana, Ohio.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 18, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, July 19, 2001, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., with Rev. William Turner officiating. Burial in Terre Haute cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Robert's name to Cancer Assn. of Champaign County, P.O. Box 38125, Urbana, Ohio, in lieu of flowers.

Vaughan Geyer
Died: Sunday, July 15, 2001

Vaughan Geyer, 86, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2001, in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.

She was born Sept. 30, 1911, in Irwin, to the late Homer and Nancy (Plant) Rutan.

Vaughan was a member of United Methodist Church in Florida and a member of Rebecca Lodge.

She is survived by her niece, Edna Mae Marsh, and a close friend, Mary Lee Simpson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Frank Milligan; and husband, Kenneth Geyer, whom she married in 1952.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001, in SKILLMAN-MCDONALD FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg, with Pastor Larry Poling officiating. Burial will follow the service in Fairfield cemetery, Mutual. Family and friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Esther Callison
Died: Saturday, July 14, 2001

Esther L. Callison, 85, of Urbana, died Saturday, July 14, 2001. She died with her family at her bedside.

She was born Jan. 9, 1916, in Champaign County, Ohio, the daughter of Albert Wesley and Elizabeth (Dingledine) Shaffer.

She was a member of the Terre Haute United Methodist Church.

Esther is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Roger Massie, of St. Paris, Sue and Neal Nelson, of Livermore, Maine, and Elizabeth and Britt Wooten, of Springfield, Ohio; four sons and daughters-in-law, James and Ada Callison, of Terre Haute, Ohio, Jerry and Carolyn Callison, of Urbana, Ohio, Steve and Patty Callison, of Thackery, Ohio, and Rodney and Barbara Callison, of Rosewood, Ohio; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Emily and Richard Haddix, of Terre Haute, Ohio, and Edna Ilges, of Tremont City, Ohio; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Martin Dale and Jean Shaffer, of Urbana, and Edna Shaffer, of Terre Haute; 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Callison, in 1959; three sisters, Virginia Seitz, Jean Albert and Ruthanna Shaffer; two brothers, Jay and Lester Shaffer; and one grandchild.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. The funeral service will be held there on Wednesday at 10 a.m., with the Revs. John Wiseman and William Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Terre Haute cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospital Hospice, 530 S. Burnett Road, Springfield, Ohio 45505.

Ernest Gresh Sr.
Died: Saturday, July 14, 2001

Ernest B. Gresh Sr., 83, of Springfield, and formerly of Ft. Myers, Fla., died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at 2:10 a.m. in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, Ohio.

He was born on May 30, 1918, in Indianapolis, Ind., to James and Ethel (Petrie) Gresh.

He was retired from Nationwide Insurance.

He is survived by his children, Helen (Joseph) Speakman, of Galloway, and Ernest (Barbara) Gresh Jr., of Dublin; grandchildren, Richard (Debbie) Norris, Richaele (Mike) Sharpe, Randolph (Lynn) Norris, Russell Norris and Denise Gresh; great-grandchildren, Madison, Nicole, Joshua, Alexandra and Cameron.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Hazel W. Gresh, on May 3, 2001, and twin brother Edward Gresh.

He was a member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church, in Ft. Myers, Fla. He was Past Worshipful Master of Luther B. Turner Lodge 732 F&AM; of Columbus, Ohio.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Larry Donner will officiate the service. A private burial will be held in Sunset cemetery, Galloway, Ohio.

Contributions may be made to the church, 19691 Cypress View Drive, Ft. Myers, Fla. 33912.

Leah Montgomery
Died: Sunday, March 3, 2002

Leah Frances Montgomery, 87-years-old, of Quincy, died on Sunday, March 3, 2002, at the Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney at 10:10 a.m. She was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born on July 24, 1914, in Dayton, to Charles J. and Mary Higgins Anderson. She married Robert L. Montgomery on November 3, 1930, and he preceded her in death on October 22, 1980.

She was a member of the PTA in Urbana that started the first school cafeteria in Urbana, a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, member of the Quincy Senior Citizens, member of the Quincy United Methodist Church and its Friendship Sunday School Class. She was a past president of the United Methodist Women, a Lay Delegate to the annual Methodist Conference, a honorary Quincy Alumni member and served on the election board in Quincy. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by son and wife Robert H. and Darlene Montgomery of Piqua; son and wife Leon and Janet Montgomery of Maplewood; son Thomas J. Montgomery of Quincy; daughter and husband Jane and Damion Spicer of Maplewood; daughter and husband Nancy and John Keysor of Sidney; daughter Mary Andrews of Wapakoneta; brother Fred Anderson of Ripley; 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by son Lewis Montgomery, brother James Melborn Anderson, brother Vernon Anderson and sister Mary Henderickson.

The family will receive friends at the REXER-RIGGIN-MADDEN FUNERAL HOME in DeGraff on Tuesday, March 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the Quincy United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2002 with Rev. N. Matthew Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery, Quincy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Quincy United Methodist Church to go toward the re-leading of the stained glass windows at the church.

Maggie Pryor
Died: Sunday, March 3, 2002

Maggie M. Pryor, 92, of 571 Shie Ave., Sidney, Ohio 45365, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Mercy Hospital, Urbana.

She was born March 26, 1909, in Jamestown, Tenn., to Joseph Jackson and Texanna (Sutton) Jackson, both deceased.

On Dec. 25, 1925, she was married to Willis Sherman Pryor, who passed away June 16, 1961.

She is survived by a son, Lloyd S. Pryor, of Gibbstown, N.J.; daughters, Glenna Noto, of St. Paris, Ohio, and Mrs. Bill (Faye) Martz, of Sidney, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Henry Jackson, of Sidney, Ohio; sister, Hazel Cornett, of Sidney, Ohio.

Two children, 12 brothers and eight sisters preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Community Church of the Nazarene, in St. Paris, and a homemaker.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2002, in CROMES FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Bob Flint officiating. Burial will be on March 7, 2002, in Graceland cemetery, Sidney, Ohio. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cromes Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Home Health Care.

Thomas Barger
Died: Saturday, March 2, 2002

Thomas R. Barger, 67, of 6760 W. Kanagy Road, West Liberty, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Hospital.

He was born April 17, 1934, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, the son of Clarence and Mary Anna (Pash) Barger.

He was a retired Marine Corp. Gy-Sgt. and also a retired Champaign County health inspector. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Urbana, where he served as a special minister, usher and greeter.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Ann (Brake) Barger, children, Thomas Barger, Margaret Barger, of West Liberty, Michael Barger (Regina), of Columbus, Kathryn Quinn (Chester), of Beavercreek, and Paul Barger, of Oakwood, four grandchildren, Bradlyn, Jacob, Charles and Kyle, brothers, Gene Barger, of Huntsville, Jim Barger, Charlie Barger, of Russells Point, and a sister, Connie Caton, of South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John and Michael, and a sister, Nancy Barger.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 5, 2002, from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, A Dignity Memorial Provider, 642 S. Main St., Urbana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Urbana, with Father Gregory J. Konerman officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale cemetery, Urbana.
