Anna Kline
Died: Sunday, October 14, 2001
Anna Mae Kline, 79, of Urbana, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Mercy Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 25, 1922, in Urbana, Ohio, the daughter of Cecil and Fern (Holycross) Spellman.
She is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce (David) Crabill, of Urbana, Gloria Ellars, of Chicago Heights, Ill., Sandy (Charles) Biddle, of Urbana, Bonnie (Larry) Lincoln, of North Lewisburg, Sharon (David) Scroggs, of Urbana, and Robin Tomblin, of Delaware, Ohio; a son, Dick Kline, of Kingscreek; and a brother, Earl Spellman, of Millerstown, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Florda and Frances Linthicum, of Huntsville, Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roland Kline.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Dean Hardy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale cemetery.
Joshua Ragland
Died: Sunday, October 14, 2001
Joshua Ray Ragland, 18, of Cable, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in Columbus.
He was born May 14, 1983, in Dayton.
Josh worked for Ashton Pines Apartment Complex of Columbus and was a member of the Fairborn United Church of God.
Survivors include his parents, John R. and Mary Ann Puckett Ragland, of Cable, daughter, Breanna, sisters, Kathy Dalton, of Londonberry, and Penny (Philip) Butler, of Miamisburg, brother, Jim Ragland, of Angola, Ind., grandparents, Ray and Virginia Ragland, of Mutual, grandfather, Emerson Puckett, of Londonberry, three nieces, Desireea, Courtney and Carrina, nephew, Maverick.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Angeline Puckett.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the SKILLMAN-MCDONALD FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg, with Rev. Matt Fenchell officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery, Mutual. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Betty Singleton
Died: Sunday, October 14, 2001
Betty L. Singleton, age 81, of 232 E. Reynolds St., Urbana, died Sun. Oct. 14, 2001 at the Wellington, Urbana. She was born Oct., 12, 1920, in Springfield, to Mac and Arlethia (Stanhope) Craig. She served as a church's aide at the St. Paul's AME Church in Urbana.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Arthur Christian, of Urbana, granddaughters, Dionna Walker and Chrystel Christian, both of Urbana, and a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Kathryn Craig, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lawrence H. Singleton, brothers, Ward Craig and Bolmont Pryor, and a sister, Hattie Davenport.
The family will receive friends on Wed., Oct. 17, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, A Dignity Memorial Provider, 642 S. Main St., Urbana. A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in the funeral home, with Rev. Clara Boyd Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Gladys Massie

Gladys NeElma Ater Massie, 82, of North Lewisburg, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, in Spring Meadows Care Center, Woodstock. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the FRESHWATER-MCDONALD FUNERAL HOME, North Lewisburg, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow in Maple Grove cemetery, North Lewisburg.
Elmer Vorpe Jr.
Died: Tuesday, May 28, 2002
Elmer C. Vorpe Jr., 86, of St. Paris, Ohio, died at 2:08 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 15, 1915, in St. Paris, Ohio, to Elmer Vorpe Sr. and Blanche (Bodey) Vorpe, both deceased.
A 1935 graduate of Green Township High School, Sidney (currently known as Fairlawn High School), he served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated Vorpe Opticians in Bellefontaine, Troy and Piqua until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the St. Paris First Baptist Church, where he was active in many of the church organizations. He was a member of the Ohio and National Hearing Aid Society, Opticians Association of Ohio and held a lifetime membership to the Sertoma Club, Troy. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Friend) Vorpe, of St. Paris, who he married
on Jan. 9, 1941; two daughters, Nancy (Allen) Massie and Jane (Donald) Pence, both of Troy; four grandchildren, Pamela (Philip) Koester, of Waterville, Kevin (Michelle) Pence, of Vero Beach, Fla., Chad (Becky) Massie, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Molly Massie, of Mechanicsville, Va.; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Vorpe, of Piqua, and Rev. Carl (Barbara) Vorpe, of St. Simons Island, Ga.; four sisters, Harriet Stephenson, of Georgetown, S.C., Carol (Ned) Persinger, of Rosewood, Ruth (John) Maurer, of Botkins, Jeanne Gibson, of Sun City, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Stanley Vorpe, and one sister, Kathleen Rice.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, in First Baptist Church, 138 W. Plum St., St. Paris, with Rev. Dr. James Van Zile officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, St. Paris. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, in the RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, and on Friday, May 31 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Mabel Adkins

Mabel H. Adkins, 93, of 4481 U.S. Highway 68 N., Urbana, Ohio, died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Heartland of Urbana.
She was born Sept. 12, 1908, in Urbana, Ohio, to Elmer and Myrtle (Lower) Wilkins. She was a homemaker.
Survived by her grandchildren, Angella (Tom) Burbrink, Orville J. Rooney and Patty Rooney, all of Urbana, Ohio, great-grandchildren, Dustin and Faith Burbrink, Melody and Joshua Rooney and Janie Hatcher.
Preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Adkins, in 1979, children, Walter Adkins, Betty Rooney, parents, two brothers and one sister.
She was a member of Caroline Chapter 39 OES White Shrine of Jerusalem, Rebecca Lodge 501.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, A Dignity Memorial Provider, 642 S. Main St., Urbana., Ohio, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Calvin Roland will officiate and burial will be in Grandview cemetery, Urbana, Ohio.
Linda Tobin
Died: Monday, May 27, 2002
Linda J. Tobin, 46, of Urbana, died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Mt. Carmel West Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
She was born Dec. 22, 1955, in Champaign County to Les Channell and Janice Harrington.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Scott Tobin, children, Clayton, John, Patricia, Tommy and Amber, three grandchildren, Preston, Madison and Jasmine, father, Mort Watkins, of Urbana, sisters, Elizabeth Wyatt, of Raymond, Ohio, Sue, of Urbana, Patty, of Urbana, brothers, Tom Witt, of Springfield, Tony Witt, of Las Vegas, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Loretta Stickley

Loretta W. Stickley, 91, formerly of 4878 Nettlecreek Road, Urbana, Ohio, died at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, in the Wellington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Urbana.
She was born April 10, 1911, in Champaign County, Ohio, to Lorenzo Dow Ward and Blanche (Middleton) Ward, both deceased.
A 1929 graduate of Westville High School and also a graduate of Moore's Business College, Urbana, she was a member of the Westville United Methodist Church, where she was involved in numerous church activities. She was a member of the Antique Study Club, St. Paris; the Westville Bridge Club; and the Mad River Township Farm Council.
She is survived by children, Mary Ann (Richard) Van Horn, of Urbana, Dan (Janet) Stickley, of Urbana, Cindy Stickley, of Powell; one daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Stickley, of Alexandria, Va.; 14 grandchildren, John (Gayle) Stickley, of Ramsey, N.J., Jim (Kate) Stickley, of San Francisco, Calif., Kimberly Jones, of Chicago, Ill., Kathrine (Randy) Weaver, of Marengo, Kristina (Roberto) Rojas, of Columbus, Kurt (Joanne) Van Horn, of Covington, La., Kent (Laura) Van Horn, of Annapolis, Md., Karyl (Rusty) Strader, of Springfield, Kelly (Neil) Ziegler, of Columbus, Polly (Jim) Jordan, of Urabna, Andrew (Jill) Stickley, of West Liberty, Todd (Hope) Stickley, of Urbana, Zach (Jessica) Stickley, of Urbana, and Kirsten (Oliver) Hienton, of Columbus; 30 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dow (Bonnie) Ward, of Urbana; and one sister, Marjorie Dellinger, of Urbana.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Stickley, who she married
on June 20, 1931, and who preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1995; one son, S. Thomas Stickley; one son-in-law, Don Pahl; two brothers, Robert and Ned Ward; three sisters, Beulah Stickley, Adelaide Lutz and Vivian McBride.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in the Westville United Methodist Church, 76 N. State Route 560, Westville, Ohio, with Pastor Anita James officiating. Burial will be in Nettlecreek cemetery, Urbana. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, in the Richeson-Wickham and Atkins Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris.

Diane Gibbs
Died: Sunday, May 19, 2002
The family of Diane Henderson Gibbs regrets to announce that she passed away on May 19, 2002, at her home, in Oakland, Calif.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Donald M. Gibbs; her companion, Theodore Tusler; her daughter, Elizabeth Chuan-Riley and son-in-law, William Riley, son John M. Evans; her granddaughter Zoe Riley; and her niece, Catherine Downing.
Diane graduated from Urbana High School, Class of 1955 and from Ohio University with honors and was a member of the Mortar Board Society at that institution. As a professional editor, she helped create many important books and other documents. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Helen Lumbatis
Died: Saturday, June 23, 2001
Helen H. Lumbatis, 76, of 8715 Urbana St. (Millerstown), St. Paris, Ohio, died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, in the Wellington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Urbana.
She was born on June 27, 1924, in Lewisville, Ohio, to Alex Weisend and Christena (Burkhart) Weisend, both deceased.
A 1942 graduate of Lewisville High School, she was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Paris, and of the county Home Extension Club.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Dale Lumbatis, of St. Paris, who she married
on Feb. 5, 1951; two sons, Wayne (Debra) Lumbatis and Mark (Cynthia) Lumbatis, both of Conover; four daughters, Mickie (Jerry) Nuckles, of Marysville, Kathleen (Howard) Doak, of Ravenna, Ohio, Marilyn (John) Edwards, of Mechanicsburg, and Karen (Chad) Barnett, of Springfield; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Alberta Rauch, of Newark.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd, Delbert, Arthur and Francis Weisend; and four sisters, Laura and Edna Weisend, Icel Rauch and Anna Lumbatis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 121 E. Walnut St., St. Paris, with Father John Perryman officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Conover. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in the RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris.

Genieve Pearl Boan

Genieve Pearl Boan, 90, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., died Friday, June 22, 2001, in the Port St. Lucie Nursing Home.
A former resident of Urbana, Ohio, she owned and operated Jennie's Beauty Shops, in Springfield, Ohio, and Ft. Pierce, Fla., prior to her retirement.
Born Nov. 10, 1910, in Lawrence County, Ohio, to James E. and Estella A. (Massie) Harrison, she attended Lecta, Ohio, High School. She was a member of Port St. Lucie United Methodist Church and a former member of the Urbana, Ohio, United Methodist Church.
Survivors are nephews, Richard L. Moody, Leechburg, Pa., Vernon L. Moody, Newton, N.C., and Thomas E. Moody, Urbana, Ohio; and a niece, Carolyn Sue (Bud) Cox, of Urbana, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Richard L. Boan, and 5-year-old daughter, Norma Maxine, who were killed in Urbana in 1935 in a truck-train accident; her second husband, John A. Boan, in 1972; a sister, Irene A. Moody; and a nephew, James L. Moody.
Friends may visit the family for one hour prior to the funeral service at noon Wednesday, June 27 in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio, with the Rev. Norman Wright of the Urbana United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale cemetery, Urbana.
Tina Brumfield
Died: Friday, June 22, 2001
Tina Brumfield, 78, of Springfield, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at 6:25 p.m. in Mercy Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Olive Hill, Ky., and was raised in Lawrence County, Ohio, the daughter of Jess and Etna (Duncan) Dean.
She was a longtime volunteer at Mercy Medical Center and a friend to all that knew her.
She is survived by a daughter, Wilma Frazier, of Springfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Brumfield, of Urbana; five grandchildren, Eric (Angela) Frazier and Sabrina Frazier, Melissa Chevalley, Julie (Greg) Butcher and Paul Brumfield; five great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Josh, Cielo, Madelyn and Stephanie; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Woodrow "Woodie" Brumfield; two sisters; and a son-in-law, Paul Frazier.
Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the JACKSON LYTLE & INGLING WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, North Limestone Chapel. Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Berner officiating. Interment will follow in Terre Haute cemetery.
