Janet Campbell
Died: Monday, October 8, 2001
Janet M. Campbell, 58, of 1639 Kiser Lake Road, St. Paris, Ohio, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, in Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio.
She was born on Jan. 9, 1943, in Logan County, Ohio, to Raymond S. Holdren and Jessie (Price) Holdren, both deceased.
She was a 1961 graduate of West Liberty High School and a 1965 graduate of The Ohio State University. She was a member of the St. Paris United Methodist Church, where she was active with the United Methodist Women and the Friendship Class. She retired in 1997 as a home economics teacher with the Graham Local School District, where she had served for 23 years.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Campbell, who she married
on March 14, 1964; one daughter, Cheryl (Stuart) Hess, of Urbana; one son, Todd (Michelle) Campbell, of Conover; four grandchildren, Ethan and Eric Hess, of Urbana, and Jessica and Jackilyn Campbell, of Conover; one brother, John Holdren, of Columbus; one sister, Wanda Roth, of West Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in the St. Paris United Methodist Church, corner of Church and Walnut streets. Pastor Anita James of the Westville United Methodist Church and Tom Bolton of the St. Paris United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, West Liberty. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 10, 2001, in the RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, Ohio.

Olive Cook
Died: Monday, October 8, 2001
Olive M. Cook, 82, of South State Route 560, Urbana, Ohio, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at 12:25 a.m. in Mercy McAuley Center.
She was born Aug. 8, 1919, in Mad River Township, to Rudolph and Tressie (Zerkle) Cook.
She was retired from Velvet Ice Cream Co., in Springfield, Ohio.
She is survived by sisters, Harriett Russell, of Rosewood, Ohio, Doris (Harold) Oney, of Springfield, Ohio, Marjorie (Melvin) Greer, of Westville; brothers, Willis, Evan and Robert (Shirley) Cook, all of Urbana; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Francis Stallsmith, and a brother, Donald Cook.
She was a member of the Westville United Methodist Church and the Valley Garden Club.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, A Dignity Memorial Provider. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Anita James officiating. Burial in Terre Haute cemetery, Terre Haute, Ohio.
Martha Rutherford
Died: Monday, October 8, 2001
Martha Rutherford, 65, of 223 Poe Ave., Urbana, Ohio, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at 8:05 p.m. in The Wellington.
She was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, on Oct. 18, 1935, to Charlie and Annie Martindill.
She operated a cleaning service.
She is survived by her sons, Charles and Frank Rutherford, both of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, John (Edith) Rutherford of Lakeview, Ohio, Franky Rutherford of Columbus, Ohio; daughters, Sandy (Donald) Purk and Patty (Donnie) Scroggs, all of Urbana; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Daisy (Franklin) Halley of Urbana; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Rutherford Sr.; parents; a sister, Mary Osborne; brother-in-law, Bruce Osborne; and a son, Richard Lee Rutherford.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, A Dignity Memorial Provider. A service will be held in The Willis Funeral Home, Gallipolis, Ohio at 1 p.m. Friday with one-hour visitation prior to the service. Burial in Pine Street cemetery, Gallipolis, Ohio.

Harold Boles
Died: Saturday, October 6, 2001
Harold W. Boles, Ph.D, died Saturday evening, Oct. 6, 2001.
Harold was born July 25, 1915, in Trafalgar, Ind., the son of Forest and Audra (Foster) Boles.
After spending his early life in Trafalgar, he obtained a B.S. Degree in Education from Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University) and two graduate degrees in educational administration from Ohio State University. His career included positions as classroom teacher, principal and superintendent of schools in Ohio and culminated with a professorship at Western Michigan University from 1961 until his retirement in 1984.
One of his finest accomplishments was establishing the Doctoral Degree program in Educational Leadership at WMU. He drew great satisfaction from mentoring younger professionals who entered the program. During his tenure at WMU, Harold taught one year at the Western Australian Institute of Technology. He published many articles and several textbooks in the field of Educational Leadership and belonged to many professional organizations. In 1979, he was given an honorary membership in the Western Australian Institute of Educational Administration, an honor that had never before been conferred on a non-Australian.
On Nov. 2, 1944, while serving as a navigator with the Naval Air Corps Reserve, he married
the former Esther Bowers, of Urbana, Ohio, who preceded him in death. The couple raised four children. One of Harold's greatest pleasures was providing his family with new experiences by vacationing throughout the United States. He and Esther also traveled extensively in other countries. He was an avid researcher in genealogy and published multiple volumes of family history, tracing both his lineage and his wife's. Among his more recent activities, he was a charter member of the Portage Senior Center and a member of the Center's Reminiscence Writing Group. He was preceded in death by a sister, Fern Boles. Harold is survived by his four children, Sharon Erwine, of Eaton Rapids, Mich., Deborah Montesano, of Chandler, Ariz., David Boles, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Dennis Boles, of Holland, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Bowers, of Urbana, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Alfred Mumford
Died: Thursday, October 4, 2001
Alfred John Mumford, 80, of Hospitality Home West, Xenia, Ohio, and formerly of St. Paris, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at 6:35 a.m. in his residence.
He was born on April 17, 1921, in Botkins, Ohio, the son of Allen Mumford and Ethel (Young) Mumford, both deceased.
A 1939 graduate of Botkins High School, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He formerly owned and operated Mumford's Repair of St. Paris and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, St. Paris.
He is survived by two sons, Philip D. (Dawn M.D.) Mumford, of Beavercreek, and Darrel L. (Dolores C.) Mumford, of Dadeville, Ala.; four grandchildren, Anna, Sara, Patrick and Grace Mumford, all of Beavercreek; and one sister, Linda Shank, of Jackson Center.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Imogene (Clark) Mumford, to whom he was married
on March 11, 1943, and who preceded him in death on March 24, 1996; and five brothers, Carl, Jim, Sid, Allen and Ord Mumford.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, in the RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, with Pastor Meg Doerzbacher and Rev. Dennis Ditto officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to the time of services on Saturday, Oct. 6, in the funeral home.

Paul Esty
Died: Tuesday, October 23, 2001
Paul D. Esty, 56, of Lakeview, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, died suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, in his residence.
He was born March 31, 1945, in Columbus, the son of the late Lawrence A. and Elma E. Hinkle Esty.
Paul was a 1963 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, member of Mechanicsburg Lodge 113 F&AM; and had retired from Navistar.
Survivors include a brother, Charley A. (Marcia) Esty, of Mechanicsburg, two nieces, Brenda Laws, of Mechanicsburg, and Lisa Bobovnyk, of Delaware, great-niece, Brittney Laws, and great-nephew, Dominic Bobovnyk, three aunts.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Skillman-McDonald Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, with Pastor David VanHoose officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove cemetery, Mechanicsburg. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Florence Murphy
Died: Tuesday, October 23, 2001
Florence L. Murphy, 94, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at 9:40 p.m. at Good Shepherd Village of Springfield, Ohio.
She was born Sept. 11, 1907, in Urbana, Ohio, a daughter of the late Charles and Lucinda (McCarty) McCullough.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Murphy, in 1970; two sisters, Gladys McCain and Mary Green; and nephew, Howard McCain.
She is survived by two nephews, Charles and Marilyn Green and Ronald and Pauline Green, all of Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, & CHRISTMAS FUNERAL HOME, 507 W. Jefferson St., New Carlisle, Ohio. Interment at Kings Creek cemetery in Champaign County. Friends and family may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.
Robert Trainer
Died: Tuesday, October 23, 2001
Robert A. "Bobby" Trainer, 48, of Urbana, died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 23, 2001, in Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, as the result of a hit-run accident on Oct. 14.
He was born July 15, 1953, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of James Trainer and Joanne (Bland) Young.
Bob had worked as a truck driver for Active U.S.A. for 22 years. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 654 of Springfield, Loyal Order of Moose, the Union Club and Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
His survivors include his father, of Springfield; mother, of Urbana; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Leigh Anne Trainer, of Springfield, Brian and Lisa Trainer, of Portland, Ore.; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Steve Meyers, of Springfield; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Michael Trainer, James and Nancy Trainer, all of Springfield, Don and Becky Trainer, of Indian Lake; two granddaughters, Paige Trainer and Lexee Trainer; and many nieces, nephews and his Harley brothers.
A gathering of family and friends will be held in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Springfield, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Mary Voke
Died: Tuesday, October 23, 2001
Mary Jane Voke, 86, a resident of Otterbein-St. Marys for the past six and a half years and formerly of St. Paris, died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
She was born Sept. 8, 1915, in Miami County, Ohio, to Thomas McBride and Phebe (Lodge) McBride, both deceased.
A 1933 graduate of Newton Township High School, Pleasant Hill, she retired in 1980 from Gould Inc., Urbana, Ohio. She was a member of the Rosewood United Methodist Church. She volunteered for numerous activities at Otterbein-St. Marys.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Don) Boerner, of Hilliard, and Linda (Dean) Brown, of St. Paris.; seven grandchildren, Joni McQuirt, of Columbus, Lisa Niles, of Springfield, Gary (Tami) Brown, of St. Paris, Dan Brown, of Piqua, Kevin Boerner, of Columbus, Laura Boerner, of Lexington, Ky., and Jeanette (David) Ueberroth, of Toledo; one stepgranddaughter, Karen (Kurt) Doehnert, of Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Mandie, Christopher, D.J. and Jessie Brown, all of St. Paris; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Brian and Jeremy Doehnert, of Virginia; two sisters, Lindelu Cuddeback, of Missouri, and Clara Palmer, of Florida; one brother, Philip McBride, of Ludlow Falls; and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends at Otterbein-St. Marys and the Rosewood United Methodist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Joseph Voke, who she married
on Nov. 13, 1935, and who preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1993; two sisters, Susannah Grove and Lydia Besecker; and two brothers, Samuel and James McBride.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, in the RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, with Rev. Dr. James Van Zile, pastor of the St. Paris First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, St. Paris. Charles Wingfield
Died: Monday, October 22, 2001
Charles A. Wingfield, 85, of Milford Center, died Monday morning at Riverside Hospital, in Columbus.
He was a retired farmer and a former member of the Milford Center Lions Club, Farm Bureau, U.S. Trotters Association and the Milford Center Grange. He also formerly played baseball for the Grange, was a Pony League baseball coach and a former school board member of the Union Local School District. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening and was an avid OSU and Cincinnati Reds fan.
Charles was born Nov. 3, 1915, in Mechanicsburg, to the late Charles E. and Emma Z. Legge Wingfield.
He married
the former Helen L. Stanley on Jan. 2, 1936, in Richmond, Ind. She survives, as do their children, Mary Lou (Jerry) Ryan, of Milford Center, Sue (Joe) Lowery, of Marysville, Joan (Ron) Tillinger, of Sanford, Mich., Charles S. (Shirley) Wingfield, of Urbana; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Zella Creviston, of West Mansfield; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Carolyn) Stanley, of Marysville.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3 to 5 and from 6 to 9 p.m. at the INGRAM FUNERAL HOME, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Ronald Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Woodstock cemetery.

Edward Jones

Edward Thompson Jones, age 94, of Urbana, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana, at 10:35 a.m. He was born in Mingo, Ohio, to Abner and Witona (Pickerell) Jones on Aug. 26, 1907. He was retired from Kelsey-Hayes Mfg.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Olive (Ervin) Jones; children, Ben (Esther) Jones and Crystal (Clair) Johnson; twin granddaughters, Sharon Johnson and Karen Deskins all of Urbana; great grandson, Brandon Deskins; great granddaughter, Melissa Shoemaker; great great granddaughters, Katie and Megan and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Wilbur, Finley, Herman, Clyde, Richard and Delphos Jones and sisters, Vonn Magrew, Marie Kinzel and Roxie Grumbley.
He was a member of the Northside Church of God.
A grave side service will be held for family and friends at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, in Grandview cemetery. Rev. David Gammello will officiate, services under the direction of WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, A Dignity Memorial Provider.
Colin Crisler
Died: Friday, October 19, 2001
Colin Randall Crisler, 4 months, of Springfield, died unexpectedly at 7:37 p.m. Oct. 19, 2001, in Community Hospital.
He was born in Springfield on June 18, 2001, to Melissa (Wright) and Matthew Crisler.
In addition to his parents, survivors include maternal grandparents, Paul and Debra Wright, of Urbana, maternal grandmother, Sandra Wright, of Springfield, paternal grandparents, Larry and Jeanne Crisler, of Springfield, maternal great-grandparents, Charles and Ruth Aldridge, of St. Paris, Ohio, maternal great-grandparents, Lewis and Leah Wright, maternal great-grandmother, Louise Burkitt, all of Urbana, paternal great-grandmother, Helen Liggett, paternal great-grandmother, Edith Crisler, both of Springfield, four uncles, Scott Wright, of Urbana, Jon Crisler, of Bartow, Fla., Andrew Crisler and Daniel Botkin, both of Springfield; five aunts, Amanda Vassar, of St. Louis, Mo., Carey Botkin and Denise Crisler, both of Springfield, Jessica Vassar, of Urbana, and Kelly Crisler, of Bartow, Fla., and many cousins.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, with the Rev. David Brown officiating.
