David Gentis
Died: Sunday, April 29, 2001
David W. Gentis, 44, of Urbana, Ohio, died Sunday evening, April 29, 2001, at Community Hospital, in Springfield, Ohio.
He was born Oct. 6, 1956, in Urbana, Ohio, the son of William and Deloris Jean (Castle) Gentis.
He was employed at Honda since 1983 in shipping. He was an avid baseball and softball player and coached baseball for many years.
Survivors include his father, William Gentis, of Crescent City, Fla.; his wife, Peggy J. (Jenkins) Gentis, of 21 years of marriage; one daughter, Abby Gentis, of Urbana, Ohio; one son, Luke Gentis, of Urbana, Ohio; one sister, Susan (Roby) Millice, of Cable, Ohio; in-laws, Melvin and Anna Jenkins, of Urbana, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Dennis Jenkins, of Urbana, Ohio, and Jeff Jenkins, of Indiana; sisters-in-law, Beverly Maurice, of Rosewood, Ohio, Linda Flicker, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Nancy Sample, of Columbus; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, in 1992.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2001, from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 3, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Mike Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale cemetery.

Jerome (Jerry) Weiskittle, 60, of Wintersville, Ohio, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, April 29, 2001, in Western Pennsylvania Hospital, in Pittsburgh, Pa. Arrangements are pending at the REXER-RIGGIN-MADDEN FUNERAL HOME, in DeGraff, Ohio.
William Derr
Died: Saturday, April 28, 2001
William (Bill) James Derr, 73, of Urbana, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at 8:35 p.m. in the McAuley Center, in Urbana.
He was born on April 15, 1928, to Alva and Margaret (Ferris) Derr.
He attended Mt. Carmel Evangelical Church of Mingo, Ohio. He graduated from Urbana High School in 1946 and from RETS Technical School, in Columbus, Ohio. He was an Electronics Superintendent and Senior Quality Engineer for Grimes Mfg. Co. for 38 years and retired in June of 1990.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Derr, of Urbana; children, Keith (Sandra) Derr, of Columbus, Ohio, and Kevin (Julie) Derr, of Urbana; grandchildren, Chad Derr, of Columbus, and Michele and Katelyn Derr, of Urbana; sister, Nancy (Robert) Boyd, of Urbana; brothers-in-law, Paul (Kay) Picklesimer, of Chillicothe, and Orville (Bertha) Picklesimer, of Sebring, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary Oleta Picklesimer, of Sebring, Fla.; nephews, Greg, Jeff and Brian Boyd, and niece, Susan Oelker, all of Urbana.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of Harmony Lodge 8 F&AM;, where he received his 50-year pin in 2000. He was a member of Urbana Chapter 34 RAM, Urbana Council 59 R&SM;, Raper Commandery 19 and Antioch Temple of Dayton.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, where a Harmony Lodge service will be held at 8:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, with Pastor Larry Donner and Rev. Fred Clogg officiating. Burial will be in Kingscreek cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Urbana Senior Center or a charity of choice in his memory.
Pauline Pheneger
Died: Friday, April 27, 2001
Pauline Grace Pheneger funeral services were held on Friday, April 27, 2001. The burial was in the Greenwood Union cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
Serving as pallbearers were David Caudill, Jim Harris, Phil, Ron, Larry and Tom Thompson.

Catherine Appel
Died: Monday, May 14, 2001
Catherine (Kay) Mae Schaefer Appel, 84, of Urbana, Ohio, passed away on May 14, 2001, at 6:10 a.m. in her home.
She was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Oct. 26, 1916, the oldest daughter of Herman and Nellie Lockwood Schaefer.
Kay was a 1934 graduate of New Rochelle High School and the New Rochelle Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She also attended Columbia University, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and the Ohio State University. After 35 years of service with Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Ohio, during which she taught nursing, worked varied nursing jobs and held numerous supervisory positions, she retired and then worked at the Champaign County Nursing Home as the night supervisor for eight years. She was a past president of the Champaign County Nurses Association, a regular volunteer with the Champaign County Red Cross Blood Drive and the Champaign County Fair as an emergency services nurse, and a member of the Urbana United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, James, in 1981, and is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert, whom she married
on Nov. 24, 1939; sons, Robert Jr., Houston, Texas, and David (Paula), Shorewood, Ill.; a daughter, Cathy, Dublin, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jennifer Appel, Houston, Texas, Eric (Sharon) Appel, Houston, Texas, and Lindsey Appel, Springfield, Ohio; one great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Appel; her sister, Lucille (Donald) Hope, Stuart, Fla.; her brother, Herman J. Schaefer, New Port Richey, Fla.; one niece, Janet (Ben) Cartwright, Urbana, Ohio; nephews, Richard Hueston, Urbana, Ohio, Donald (Lori) Schaefer, Hudson, Fla., William (Becky) Schaefer, Port Richey, Fla.; and nuerous great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 at the Urbana United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Norman Wright officiating. Her ashes will be interred at Oak Dale cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the American Heart Association or Mercy Hospice.
Dorothy Johnson
Died: Sunday, May 13, 2001
Dorothy T. Johnson, formerly of Urbana and Wallingford, Pa., died Sunday, May 13, 2001, in Gates Mills, Ohio, where she had made her home with her son for the last four years.
She was born Jan. 23, 1914, in Urbana, daughter of John W. and Gertrude (Berry) Thomas.
She was a graduate of Urbana High School and attended Urbana University. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Epiphany, Urbana, where she served on the Altar Guild, Choir Mothers Guild, was a member of Episcopal Church Women, headed a prayer group and taught Sunday School. She moved to Wallingford, Pa., in 1964.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles F. and Sally Johnson, Urbana, and Thomas B. and Janie Johnson, of Gates Mills; a sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Robert E. Davis, of Urbana; a sister-in-law, Janice B. Thomas, of Millington, Tenn. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Amy L. Johnson, of Columbus, William F. Johnson (Ann), of New York City, Thomas B. Johnson Jr. and Andrew F. Johnson, of Denver, Colo.; nieces, Linda Smith (Wayne), of Oakwood, Ohio, Belinda Thomas, of Kissimmee, Fla.; a nephew, Mark A. Davis, of Philadelphia, Pa.; two great-nieces and a great-nephew; and many cherished cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles F. Johnson Jr.; a son, William F. Johnson; a brother, John W. Thomas Jr.; and a niece, Jennifer Yocom.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service at the Church of the Epiphany will be held at a later date.

Richard Allan Parker

Richard Allan Parker, 42, of 701 W. Mill St., North Lewisburg, Ohio, went to be with the Lord at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, May 13, 2001, in his residence.
He was born March 25, 1959, in Urbana, Ohio, to Gurney and Florence (Yahn) Parker.
Richard is survived by his wife, Angel (Hall) Parker; children, Jacqueline, Hope, Cecilia, Danny, Emerson, Allan, Doug and Anna; mother, Florence Parker, of Urbana; brothers, William Parker, James Parker, Melvin Parker, David Parker, all of Urbana; sisters, Sue Bump, of Cable, Catherine Colwell, of Springfield, Dorothy Smith, of Florida, and Jenny, of Indiana.
Preceded in death by his father, Gurney Parker; daughter, Alexandra; son, Denny; and brothers, Lester and Danny.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Pete Floyd officiating. Burial in Oak Dale cemetery.

Dorothy Bowers
Died: Saturday, May 12, 2001
Dorothy M. Bowers, 71, of 5129 cemetery Road, St. Paris, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at her residence.
She was born in Clark County Feb. 15, 1930, the daughter of the late Herman and Faye (Licklider) Rose.
She was married
to Emery Bowers on April 26, 1956, and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1994.
She was a graduate of Rosewood High School and member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was retired from the Stolle Corporation in Sidney where she was employed many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jeff Williamson (Pam), of Urbana, and Mrs. Garner Geuy (Loretta), of Conover; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Rose, of Conover, and Floyd Rose, of Florida.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret; and a brother, Lloyd.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the SUBER FUNERAL HOME, in Fletcher, in charge of Rev. Clifford Kissinger. Burial will be in the Fletcher cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Ollie Cline
Died: Saturday, May 12, 2001
Ollie M. Cline, 75, of 307 Lafayette Ave., Urbana, Ohio, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at 3:20 a.m. in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, Ohio.
Born Dec. 31, 1925, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to Ira and Ruth (Shannabrook) Cline, he was a member of the 1944 undefeated and untied championship team at Ohio State. He received the 1945 Chicago Tribune Silver Football MVP award as a sophomore, was on the 1945 All-American Team and the 1948 Cleveland Browns World Championship Team. He played for Buffalo in 1949 and 1950-1954 played for the Detroit Lions and won a World Championship twice. He coached football, JV basketball and baseball at Northeastern High School in Clark County in 1954. He coached football and golf for Sidney High School from 1956 to 1959. He was Dean of Boys for Urbana College in 1960. He coached football and golf from 1961 to 1964 in Prescott, Ariz. From 1965 to 1972, he was with the Mt. Vernon Schools, coaching one year under Chuck Stobart, serving as Assistant Principal in 1966 and a guidance counselor. He also served as a Mt. Vernon City Council member, sat on the YMCA board and was president of the Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was the Principal of North Union High School from 1972 to 1975 and in 1976 became the Assistant to the Superintendent of Clark County Schools until his retirement in 1982. He served on Urbana City Council from 1978 to 1982. In February 2000, he was nominated and inducted to the Ohio State All-Century Football Team, and on May 12, 2000, he was told he would be inducted into the Ohio State Hall of Fame. He was officially inducted on Sept. 15, 2000. On Jan. 20, 2001, Fredricktown, Ohio, officially had an "Ollie Cline Day" and he received a Key to the city and town corporation honor signs.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette "Jenny" (Bean) Cline, of Urbana; sons, Tim (Toni) Cline, of Springfield, Ohio, Yale (Jeanette) Cline, of Urbana, David (Kim) Cline, of West Liberty; grandchildren, Stephanie, Shaun and Heather Cline.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, from 1 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m. in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery, West Liberty, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be donated toward a special tombstone to be designed by his son, artist David Cline. All donations should be sent to 307 Lafayette Ave., Urbana, Ohio.
Donald Lee Westfall
Died: Saturday, May 12, 2001
Donald Lee Westfall Sr., 79, of 6557 U.S. Route 68 W., Green Hills, in West Liberty, went to be with the Lord at 12:06 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Green Hills Center, West Liberty.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1921, in Union County, to Charles Franklin Westfall and Louie Nomie Eaton Westfall, both deceased.
He was married
to Louise M. Chess Westfall, who is deceased.
He is survived by sons, Jerry (Michelle) Westfall, Middletown, Edward (Kim) Westfall, Urbana, and Donald (Kendra) Westfall Jr., Bellefontaine; a daughter, Judy Blosser, West Liberty; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Phillip Westfall, Marysville, and Jim Westfall, Carson City, Nev.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Daryl Westfall; and a sister, Mildred Hall.
He retired from Super Foods, where he worked in the warehouse and was a union steward. He was a very active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Bellefontaine.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the KAUFFMAN-EICHHOLTZ FUNERAL HOME in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16 at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Nazarene in Bellefontaine, with Rev. Ken Neighoff presiding. Interment will be in Maple Grove cemetery in North Lewisburg.

Erline Fuson, 84, 7063 Arrowhead Court, Huntsville, Ohio, formerly of DeGraff, died at 1:20 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2001 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
A funeral will be held on Monday, May 14, 2001 at 2 p.m. at graveside at Greenwood-Union cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by REXER-RIGGIN-MADDEN FUNERAL HOME, DeGraff, Ohio.
Joseph Gillis
Died: Friday, May 11, 2001
Joseph S. Gillis Jr., 78, of Dayton, passed away Friday, May 11, 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve and his son James W. Gillis. He is survived by four daughters: Gloria Rich of Urbana, Nancy Briggs of Hilton Head, S.C., Terri Halliwell of Beavercreek and Angie Gillis of Dayton; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the V.F.W. #8312 in Beavercreek, the American Legion Post in Urbana and the Moose Lodge in Urbana. He served in the United States Marine Corps Raiders during World War II and was retired from General Motors.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME - BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, with the Rev. Clifford Kissinger officiating. Interment will be in Beaver cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
