Imogene McCulla
Died: Tuesday, June 12, 2001
Imogene I. McCulla, 68, of St. Paris, Ohio, died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at the Arthur James Cancer Research Hospital in Columbus after 4 1/2 months of illness.
She was born June 17, 1932 in Westville, Ohio, to John and Lelah (Pence) Wilkins, both deceased. She was a 1950 graduate of Johnson-St. Paris High School and retired in 1994 from the Champaign County Department of Human Services.
She was a member of the St. Paris First Baptist Church where she was a teacher, an organist, a choir member as well as a former choir director and played the piano for many years. She was also the past president of the W.C.T.U. of St. Paris.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bruce McCulla, who she married
on Feb. 3, 1952; three sons, Jeffrey Lynn (Leta) McCulla, Jonathon Lee (Deborah) McCulla and Joel Lawrence (Jill) McCulla, all of St. Paris; three grandsons, Nicholas, Vance and Justin McCulla, all of St. Paris; three granddaughters, Jennifer and Yvette McCulla of Columbus, and Lindsey McCulla of St. Paris; two step-grandchildren, Ben (Erin) Hinger and Christina Hinger, all of Troy; one sister, Connie (Norman) Bailey of St. Paris; one brother, Bob "Gus" (Carol) Wilkins of St. Paris; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Ryan Lance McCulla; one nephew, Wade Wilkins; one niece, Lynnette Wilkins.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the First Baptist Church, 138 W. Plum St., St. Paris, with Dr. James Van Zile, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in St. Paris. The grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2001 at RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, and at the church on Saturday, June 16, from noon until the time of services.

Larry Kerns
Died: Monday, June 11, 2001
Larry G. Kerns, 54, of Urbana died unexpectedly at work Monday afternoon, June 11, 2001, at Children's Medical Center, Dayton.
He was born Aug. 3, 1946 in Huntington, W.Va., the son of Clayton and Ima (Handley) Kerns. Mr. Kerns loved being with his grandson and was an avid golfer. He was employed as a cardiac ultra-sound technician with Dayton Cardiologists since 1979 and was formerly employed at Children's Medical Center and Mercy Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Kerns was a social member of the Urbana American Legion Pearce-Kerns Post 120 and a social member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 5451.
His survivors include his wife of 35 years, Annie (Robertson) Kerns; daughter and son-in-law, Amy C. and Deron B. Rutan of Urbana; brother, Howard Kerns of West Virginia; grandson, Jacob Rutan of Urbana; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
A gathering of family and friends will be held in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor William Turner officiating.
Following his wishes, his body will be cremated and committal services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Oak Dale Mausoleum with inurnment to follow.

Clara Landenberg
Died: Monday, June 11, 2001
Clara R. Landenberg, 87, a former resident of St. Paris, died Monday evening, June 11, 2001, at the McAuley Center in Urbana, Ohio.
She was born in Port William, Ohio, on March 5, 1914, the daughter of the late Cora (Stephens) and John D. Tedrick.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Landenberg in 1988. They were married
December 19, 1970. She was also preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
Landenberg was a member of the St. Paris Community Church of the Nazarene and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at the SUBER FUNERAL HOME in Fletcher on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. on Thursday until time of the services. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery near Millerstown.
Betty McDonald
Died: Monday, June 11, 2001
Betty L. McDonald, 72, of 5 Morgan St., Glouster, went to be with the Lord June 11, 2001, from her residence after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 20, 1928 in Glouster, the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (Hogue) Richards.
Bet, as her family and friends knew her, was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She also was a faithful member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church of Glouster.
Survivors include: husband Donald E. McDonald, whom she married
April 8, 1946 in Butchel; two daughters and sons-in-law Beverly A. and Tony Addy of San Mateo, Calif., and Karen L. and Carl Myers of Chillicothe; son and daughter-in-law Don and Dessie McDonald of North Lewisburg; two grandsons and wives Gains and Tacey McDonald of Monroe, Mich., and Brody and Sue McDonald of Miamisburg, sister Helen Spencer of Glouster, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by parents, three sisters, Isabell Skinner, Josephine Mathews and infant Dorothy; four brothers Joseph, Norman, Lawrence and infant Kenneth.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Glouster, with Rev. Fr. John Mucha as celebrant. Burial will follow in Glouster cemetery.
There will be a gathering of family and friends at 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the CARDARAS FUNERAL HOME, Glouster, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Marion Couts
Died: Sunday, June 10, 2001
Mercy McAuley Center in Urbana.
She was born March 21, 1905, in Urbana to Harry T. and Nettie (Bradley) Robinson.
She was a permanent resident of Urbana and was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church for more than 60 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Jack (Virginia) Couts of Springfield; three daughters, Jennett Stevens of Columbus, Shirley Ward and Dorothy (Joe) Smith of Dayton; a devoted granddaughter, Joyce (Kenneth) Hammond; two sisters Lola Tolliver of Springfield and Ruby (Harry) Hill of Urbana. She also had 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Edward and Norman; a daughter, Alice; one brother, Harry; and two sisters, Alice and Gladys.
Marion was a volunteer at the Champaign County Nursing Home and Lawnview, was a lifetime member of the Missionary Society and was the 1993 Outstanding Senior Citizen.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 13, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rayford Harper and Rev. David Bethea officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale cemetery, Urbana.
The family would like to invite everyone back to the St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 316 E. Market St., Urbana, after the committal service for a time of fellowship.
Marion Couts
Died: Sunday, June 10, 2001
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME for Marion H. Couts, 96, who died Sunday, June 10, 2001 in Mercy McAuley Center.
Rev. Richard Gordon, Rev. Rayford L. Harper and Rev. David Bethea officiated and burial was in Oak Dale cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keith Stevens, John Stevens, Doug Stevens, Michael Couts, Dan Couts, Jeff Couts and Brad Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Arthur Paul Stokes, Eddie Stokes, Bob Holloway, Lester Hill, Eddie Dunn, Mel Furrow, Raymond Whetsel and Bob Hill.
Charles Bauer Snarr
Died: Sunday, June 10, 2001
Charles Bauer Snarr, 81, of St. Paris, passed peacefully from this life to a better one after several years of failing health at 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2001 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.
He was born May 10, 1920, in Springfield, the eldest son of J. Raymond and Inez Lorene (Toomire) Snarr. Charlie became a member of the Westville United Methodist Church in 1946 and was an active member of his church as long as his health permitted. He was a 54-year member of the Harmony Lodge #8 Free and Accepted Masons. He graduated with the class of 1938 from Westville High School. He retired in 1985 from the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company after 47 years of service as a department head. He had worked at several stores, including ones in Springfield, Urbana and Bellefontaine. While working for A&P;, he was also a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and held the office of first vice president for several years and served as a delegate to the union's international convention several times.
He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in Iceland, England and France. He loved to travel and had a strong interest in his family's history and genealogy.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruth Anne (Wiant) Snarr, whom he married
on Jan. 27, 1946; two children, son Raymond Snarr of St. Paris and daughter Natalie J. Snarr of Groveport. Also surviving are siblings Ruby J. (Donn) Frost of West Liberty, Virginia Brecount of Sidney, Robert P. (Marie) Snarr Sr. of Norfolk, Va., and Janis Hays of Urbana, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John R. Snarr Jr. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 17 in the LITTLETON AND RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, with a Masonic service at 4:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 18 at 2 p.m. at the Westville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank James officiating. Burial will be in Concord cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westville United Methodist Church or the Graham Community Scholarship Foundation in care of John Steinberger, 6666 Runkle Road, St. Paris.

Carl Wehrman
Died: Sunday, June 10, 2001
Carl J. Wehrman, 75, of Anna, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Wilson Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 23, 1925 in Anna. Wehrman served in the United States Navy in World War II as a Motor Machinist, Mate 3rd Class. He served in the Asiatic Pacific and was present at the signing of the surrender of Japan.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Kathleen Wehrman. They were married
June 24, 1948 at St. Remy Catholic Church in Russia, Ohio.
Wehrman is also survived by daughters: Elizabeth (Dennis) Dahlinghaus of Minster, Ohio, Linda (Dave) Barhorst of Sidney, Ohio, Ruth (Dave) Clark of Troy, Ohio, Joan (Jerry) Schulze of Yorkshire, Ohio, Barbara (Keith) Paulus of Russia, Ohio and Treva (Ted) Siegel of Fort Loramie; and sons: Jim (Sandra) Wehrman of Urbana, Bill (Mary) Wehrman of Sidney, Ohio, Ray (Terri) Wehrman of Sidney, Ohio, Roger (ex-wife Theresa) Wehrman of Fort Loramie and Pat (Deb) Wehrman of Anna, Ohio.
In addition to his wife and 11 children, Wehrman is also survived by brothers Ralph (Virginia) Wehrman of Marionette, Wisc., Don (Betty) Wehrman of Fort Loramie, brother-in-law Forrest Grillot and sister-in-law Hilda Wehrman.
He has 28 surviving grandchildren and two surviving great-grandchildren.
Wehrman was preceded in death by children, Anthony and Ann Wehrman; sister, Dorothy Grillot; brother, Robert Wehrman and great-grandson, Cory Wehrman.
He was affiliated with St. Michael's Catholic Church and was a member of the Sacred Hearts, Knights of Columbus, Council 5239 and Minster Eagles Lodge 1391.
Wehrman was also a lifetime member of the Ft. Loramie American Legion Post 355, the Ohio Farmers Union and Ohio Farm Bureau, and the National Farmers Organization where he served as Ohio State NFO president for eight years, secretary/treasurer of NFO Western Ohio Reload 80, and Shelby County NFO president for eight years. Wehrman and wife Kathleen were named NFO members of the year in 1990.
He was also leader of the Shelby County Kidney Caregivers Support Group.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Fort Loramie on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Steven Shoup presiding.
Interment will be in St. Patrick cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 13, from 2-9 p.m. and Thursday, June 14, from 9-10 a.m. at GEHRET FUNERAL HOME in Fort Loramie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad.
Martha Lewis
Died: Friday, June 8, 2001
Martha Jane Lewis, 81, of 741 E. Water St., Urbana, died June 8, 2001, at 4:20 a.m. in Heartland of Urbana.
She was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Montgomery County, Ohio, to the late Everett and Hazel (Frankenburg) Bradfield.
Survivors include a grandson, Tim (Henrietta) Pond of Bellefontaine; granddaughter, Diana Wilkins of Urbana; great-grandchildren, Nicki Skinner, Adam Skinner, Kara Wilkins, all of Urbana, Amanda Pond of Bellefontaine, and Melanie (Jeff) Barrett of LaRue, Ohio; brother, Bob Bradfield of Dayton; sister, Betty Wick of Dayton, son-in-law, Kenny Pond of Medway.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Patricia Pond; brothers Lester and Brad Bradfield; sisters, Mildred Hammond and Dodie Abram; and special friend, Harry H. Lewis.
She was formerly employed by the Sunshine Biscuit Company of Dayton.
Funeral services will be conducted at RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, St. Paris, Monday, June 11, at 2 p.m. by Dr. James Van Zile of the St. Paris First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Myrtle Tree cemetery, St. Paris.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 11, from noon to 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
Kennion Wherry
Died: Friday, April 27, 2001
Kennion D. Wherry, 2876 Wolfcale Road, Convoy, Ohio died at 10:45 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2001 at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born Oct. 12, 1916, the son of Alpha Vern and Mary Ellen "Cecil" (Ickes) Wherry, both deceased. He was married
to his wife Helen L. (Zimmerman) Wherry on Dec. 12, 1936.
Wherry was a retired farmer and proud employee of International Harvester in Fort Wayne, retiring after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Convoy, Ohio and active in the church council. He was a former Harrison Township trustee, member of the Van Wert Masonic Lodge No. 218, the Van Wert Shrine Club and of the Fort Wayne Mizpah Club and its horse patrol. He was responsible for providing Shrine circus tickets to Crestview fourth graders.
He is survived by his wife; son David K. (Rose) Wherry of Convoy, Ohio; daughters Barbara K. (William) Burk of Urbana, Ohio and Susan r. (Steve) Isenbarger of rural Convoy; sisters Mrs. Gordon (Doris) Miller of Evansville, Indiana and Mrs. Bill (Jane) Knuerr of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Lowell Edward Wherry and Alpha William Wherry; sister Margaret Anderson.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Convoy, Ohio with the Rev. Janice Berthinee of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF cemetery in Convoy, Ohio.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour ahead of the service at the church. A Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday.
Preferred memorials include Convoy EMS, Trinity Evangelical Church or Van Wert County Hospital.
