Lynda Bodey
Died: Friday, April 20, 2001
Lynda L. Bodey, 57, of 1519 N. Heck Hill Road, St. Paris, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at 9:50 p.m. at the James Cancer Center, in Columbus, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Piqua, Nov. 29, 1943, the daughter of the late Herbert Eugene Tamplin Sr. and Helen Elizabeth Hughes Tamplin.
She was married
to Alvin N. Bodey on March 17, 1962, and he survives.
She was a member of the Myrtle Tree Baptist Church and also a member of the International Order of Kings Daughters and Sons. She was also the editor of the "Ohio Voice," a publication of the Kings Daughters and Sons. She had also served on the Johnson Township Board of Elections for 35 years.
In addition to her husband, Alvin N., she is survived by a daughter, Alison N. Sanderson (Kevin), of St. Paris; a son, Alvin N. (Chip) Bodey II (Linda), of Urbana; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Haney (Richard), of Fletcher, and Mrs. Mary Ann Wilson (Harry), of Piqua; two brothers, Fred Tamplin (Kay) and William (Ben) Tamplin (Alma), both of Piqua.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Eugene Tamplin Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at the Myrtle Tree Baptist Church, St. Paris, in charge of Revs. Ronald Harrison and Floyd Dallis. The Kings Daughters and Sons will have a memorial service at 1:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Bodey will be at the church from noon until the time of the services. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Champaign County Cancer Society of the International Order of King's Daughters and Sons. Arrangements are in charge of the SUBER FUNERAL HOME, Fletcher, Ohio.
Susanne Fillingham
Died: Friday, April 20, 2001
Susanne (Hill) Fillingham, 62, of Lansing, Mich., died April 20, 2001, at her home.
The daughter of the late Vaughn E. Hill Sr., former owner of The Mechanicsburg Telegram, was born Jan. 31, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio.
She retired in 2000 as a teacher at the Mt. Hope Elementary School after 36 years of faithful service. She was a Deacon, Elder and choir member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Lansing.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Richard A.; daughter, Megan K. Sullivan, of Lansing; son, R. Brian (Ann), of DeWitt, Mich; three grandchildren, Erin, Jacob and Ksate; stepmother, Mrs. Vaughn E. Hill Sr., of Urbana; two brothers, Vaughn E. Hill Jr. and special friend Marilyn, of Oarton, Va., and Larry F. Hill (Trudy), of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Dr. Kay L. Hill and special friend Graydon, of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary Jo (Mark) Cohen, of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 743 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., Lansing, with Rev. Casey Wells, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Deep Dale Memorial Park, Lansing. The family will receive friends at the GORSLINE RUNCIMAN CO. CHAPEL, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to services.

Robert King
Died: Friday, April 20, 2001
Robert R. King, 74, passed away on Friday, April 20 at home with his family. He was born June 14, 1926 in Champaign County, the son of Leroy and Gertrude (Blue) King. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired after 30 years of service with the Howard Paper Mill.
His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty (Weaver) King; daughters Linda (Bob) Wellman of Webbville, Ky., Rosemary (Rick) Ewing and Jean Allison; sons John (Susan) King and Richard (Amy) King of Urbana; 11 grandchildren: Billie, Kelli, Stacie, Debbie, Tami, Carla, James, Niki, Mark, Rachelle and Andrew; 16 great-grandchildren: Emily, Luke, Jai, Austin, Mace, Alexander, Sierra, Christopher, Derek, Tim, Brianne, Johnathon, Tyler, Levi (Little Bobbie), Emma and Michaela; brothers William King of West Liberty and Harold (Jean) King; sisters Ruth Nolte and Helen Parks of Urbana; and several nieces and nephews who will miss Uncle Richard.
King was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jim and Raymond King, sister Dorothy Reser, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 22 at the WALTER-SCHOEDINER FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio where a funeral service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2001 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Clifford Kissinger and Rev. Stanley Cover officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale cemetery.
Florence Faulkner
Died: Thursday, April 19, 2001
Florence Elizabeth "Flo" Faulkner, 81, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2001, at 2:55 a.m. in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana, Ohio.
She was born in Champaign, Ill., the daughter of Fred P. and Carrie F. (Ellis) Estridge.
She grew up in Urbana, Ill., and was a graduate of Urbana High School with the Class of 1937, Urbana, Ill. She resided in Indianapolis, Ind., for 25 years before moving to Aroma Park, Ill., then in 1966 moved to Urbana, Ohio. She retired from Grimes Mfg., Co., in 1984. Florence was a member of the First Christian Church of Urbana.
She is survived by a sister, Doris L. King, of Moorland, Ind.; two nieces, Carolyn Southwood, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Nancy Lindsey, of New Castle, Ind.; three nephews, Larry Gene Daugherty, David Lynn Daugherty and Royce Eugene King, all of Indiana. She also leaves an aunt, Pearl Messimer, of Tucson, Ariz., and an uncle, Floyd Ellis, of St. Joseph, Ill., as well as numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Clifford M. Brown; two sisters, Martha Mae Estridge and Dorothy Louise Ingle; and one brother, Elihu Ellis Estridge. She leaves many dear and special friends. They know who they are whom she loved very much.
She was well cared for by CareGivers from Home Health Care, Mercy Memorial Hospital and Passport of Ohio. She couldn't have survived as long as she did without their help and loving care.
A graveside service will be held in Mooreland, Ind., cemetery at her family's request. Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio.
Charline Heppard
Died: Thursday, April 19, 2001
Charline D. Heppard, 86, of Mechanicsburg passed away on Thursday, April 19 in her residence. She was born April 12, 1915 in Procterville, the daughter of the late Albert and Dora (Brumfield) Clark.
Charline was a devoted mother and homemaker. Survivors include daughters Barty (Bill) Standley, Judy (Robert) Yates and son Charles (Helen) Heppard, all of Mechanicsburg; ten grandchildren: Dorothy (David) Brown, Theresa (Jerry) Adams, Pete (Robin) Standley, Roy (Jenny) Standley, Monte (Dawn) Heppard, Tara (Frank) Venrick, Shawn Heppard, Danny (Holly) Yates, Lorena (Greg) Helentjaris and Darren Yates; fifteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy Jane Lightner of Hillsboro; sister-in-law Minnie Clark of Seminole, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband Frank Heppard, whom she married
December 21, 1935; son Lee Oland Heppard; two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 23 at the SKILLMAN-MCDONALD FUNERAL HOME in Mechanicsburg with the Rev. Andrew Scott officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill cemetery in Springfield.
Family and friends may call from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
George Shoop
Died: Thursday, April 19, 2001
George Edward Shoop, 73, of Troy, died on Thursday at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy.
He was born the son of David Russell and Ethel Marie (Snyder) Shoop on Dec. 25, 1927.
He is survived by his children, Barbara and Douglas Carson of Conover; George Russell Jr. and Jackie Shoop of Troy; Becky and Gary Trostel of St. Paris; Beverly Fulton and the late Dave Fulton of Troy; sisters Nancy Lauber of Troy, Janet (Paul) Hufford of Texas and Karen Wagner of Casstown; Gayle, Emalie, Ryan, Tyler and Devyn Carson; Beth, Drew, George R. II and Jamie Shoop; Doedee, Byron and Bradley Trostel; Joshua, Robert and Joseph Fulton, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Emma Jean Conrad, Billie Frances Harper and Katy Gilliam; and one grandson, David LeRoy Shoop.
Shoop was a retired farmer and former employee of Fulton Farms after his retirement. He was a member of the "Waffle House" Coffee Club and an avid outdoorsman.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the BAIRD FUNERAL HOME, 555 N. Market St., Troy, with the Rev. Bradley Warkentine officiating. Burial will follow at Casstown cemetery in Casstown.

Christine Stradling
Died: Thursday, April 19, 2001
Christine Stradling, 87, of Terre Haute, died Thursday morning, April 19, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center, in Springfield.
She was born May 23, 1913, in Terre Haute, the daughter of John and Alice Gearhart.
She was a member of Terre Haute United Methodist Church and employed with Schuler's Bakery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger Stradling; brothers, Paul and Marion Gearhart; and sister, Leta Pyles.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Tom McGillivray, of Springfield; grandchildren, Gregg (Deanna) McGillivray, of Springfield, Teri (Joe) Shouvlin, of Springfield, Melissa (Jim) Johnson, of Fairport Harbor, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Kierstan McGillivray, Patrick, Paige, Philip and Anna Shouvlin, Meredith, Ian and Alex Johnson; one sister, Esta Brecount; sister-in-law, Alice Gearhard; several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2001, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A funeral ceremony will be held on Monday, April 23, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bob Metheny and also Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will be in Terre Haute cemetery.

Leslie A. Dowden
Died: Wednesday, April 18, 2001
A. Leslie Dowden, 84, of 7558 Church Road, West Liberty, Ohio, died at 9:45 p.m. April 18, 2001, in Mary Rutan Hospital, in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
He was born May 15, 1916, in Maplewood, Ohio, to Chester Otho Dowden and Abigail Malinda Taylor Dowden, both deceased.
He was married
to Lois Lease Dowden on Feb. 9, 1938, in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Harold W. (Nancy) Dowden, of West Liberty, Ohio; daughter, Phyllis I. (Harold) Gross, of Urbana, Ohio; brother, LeRoy Dowden, of West Liberty, Ohio; sisters, Lois Pollock, of Bainbridge, Ohio, Eunice Recher, of Mason, Mich.; grandchildren, Mark (Lori) Dowden, of West Liberty, Ohio, Malinda Gross, of Urbana, Ohio, Sheila Dowden, of Urbana, Ohio, Christina Gross, of Russells Point, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Kelsi and Karli Dowden, of West Liberty, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
A Champaign County farmer, he was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, Sunday School superintendent for over 20 years, a member of the Farm Bureau of Champaign County and the Urbana Senior Center.
There will be a funeral service at 1 p.m. April 23, 2001, in the KAUFFMAN-EICHHOLTZ FUNERAL HOME, in West Liberty, Ohio, with Rev. Jeff Smalley officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Cemtery, West Liberty, Ohio. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 22 in the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home, in West Libery.

Rebecca L. "Becky" Lile, 58, formerly of Bellefontaine, died Wednesday, April 18, at Hospice House in South Bend, Ind. A funeral ceremony will be held on Monday, April 23, at 2 p.m. in the LITTLETON AND RUE FUNERAL HOME HIGHLAND CHAPEL near West Liberty. William Cupps
Died: Monday, April 16, 2001
William (Bill) Cupps, 67, passed away April 16, 2001, at his home near Harbor Springs, Mich.
He was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Adams County, Ohio, the son of Frank Cupps and Geneva Fletcher Kemp, both deceased.
In 1952, he married
Anna Washburn and made their home in the Harbor Springs area.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; three sons, Jesse, William Jr. and Larry; two daughters, Pat Pemberton and Barb Robertson; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Bertha Bonter; sister, Rose Jenkins, of Grover Hill, Ohio; halfsisters, Lillian Bergey and Rosie Bergey, Michigan, Louise Pitts and Sandra Harvey, of St. Paris, Ohio; halfbrother, Richard Kemp, of Conover, Ohio; stepsister, Verna Frances, of Dayton; stepbrother, Butch Kemp, of Urbana, Ohio; many in-law family members, nieces, nephews and cousins.
William was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Charles Kemp; stepmother, Cappy; one stepsister, Irene Taylor; stepbrothers, Robert Kemp and Fred Kemp.
Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. SCHILLER FUNERAL HOME, of Harbor Springs, is serving the family.

Lois Cheny
Died: Sunday, April 15, 2001
Lois Cushman Cheney, 88, of Woodstock, passed away Sunday at noon in Green Hills Care Center, West Liberty.
She was born Aug. 24, 1912, in rural Woodstock, the daughter of the late Charles W. "Pete" and Alverna (Green) Cushman.
Lois was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Portia Chapter 448 OES, North Lewisburg, and was privileged to serve as District 18 Deputy Grand Matron in 1960 under Dorothy Weick Worthy Grand Matron. She retired from Navistar of Springfield in 1972 after 29 years of service.
Lois is survived by nieces, nephews and their spouses, Marion (Shirley) Blazer, of Woodstock, Alice Otstot, Faye (Richard) Weaver, Ruth (Richard) King, all of Springfield, Earl (Martha) Cushman, Mary Headley, all of West Liberty, Dorothy (Lowell) Picklesimer, of Milford Center, James (Margaret) Cushman, of Cable; sister-in-law, Marguerite Cushman; nephew-in-law, Richard King; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by husband, John M. Cheney, whom she married
June 9, 1934; two brothers, Frank and Asa Bailey; three sisters, Nina Blazer, Mae Ogg and Rena Cushman; niece, Ruth King; nephews-in-law, Kenneth Headley and John Otstot.
Funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday in the FRESHWATER-MCDONALD FUNERAL HOME, North Lewisburg, with Rev. Larry Poling officiating. Burial will follow in Woodstock cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, where OES service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church Building Improvement Fund.
