Ann Love
Died: Sunday, January 13, 2002

Ann Love, 73, of 2114 State Route 55, Urbana, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at 10:03 p.m. in Mercy Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Urbana, to Russell and Margaret (Thackery) Love.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her sisters, Cynthia Love Ferneau, of Bethesda, Md., Sandy Roosa, of Urbana, nieces, Robin Roosa and Renee (Joe) Buonincontri, nephews, Randy Roosa, Ron (Elenia) Roosa, Philip (Lisa) Ferneau, Russell (Debbie) Roosa, Mark (Rachelle) Ferneau, several great-nieces and nephews.

She attended Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church and loved flowers, birds and art.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, A Dignity Memorial Provider, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1013 East Lawn Ave., Urbana. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Larry A. Donner officiating. Burial in Oak Dale cemetery. Contributions may be made in Ann's memory to either the church or to the Champaign County Library, 1060 Scioto St., Urbana, Ohio 43078.

Clara Vulgamore
Died: Saturday, January 12, 2002

Clara G. Vulgamore, 76, of Urbana, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in her residence.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1925, in McKeesport, Pa., the daughter of John Edwin Sr. and Gertrude Ella (Schlappich) McCaslin.

Survivors include three daughters and three sons-in-law, Deborah (Ronald) Clark, of Urbana, Donna (Douglas) Snipes, of Troy, and Doreen (Michael) Adams, of Urbana; seven grandchildren, David John (Tara) Clark, of Springboro, Stephanie Snipes (Jeffrey) Marshall, of Phoenix, Ariz., Dana Marie Clark, of Chesapeake, Va., Chad Michael Adams, of Urbana, Michelle Lyndsey Adams and fiance Scott Lane, of Zanesfield, Andrew Douglas Snipes, of Troy, Justin William Adams, of Urbana; three great-grandchildren, Jacob William Clark, Ethan Scott Adams and Jayme Elizabeth Clark.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Milton P. Vulgamore, her parents and five brothers and sisters.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will immediately follow at 8 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. William Turner officiating. Following the service, her body will be cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Urbana Paramedic Fund, P.O. Box 637, Urbana, Ohio 43078, or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 182039, Department 013, Columbus, Ohio 43218.

Josephine Hecker
Died: Wednesday, January 9, 2002

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. for Josephine M. Hecker, 83, of 312 Poe Ave., Urbana, Ohio, who died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at 6:30 p.m. in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana, Ohio. Rev. H.H. Collins and Rev. Doug Houser officiated, and burial was in Oak Dale cemetery.

She was born Oct. 7, 1918, in Champaign County to Earl and Becky Jane (Morgan) Piper.

She was a homemaker.

Josephine is survived by her children, Shirley Ann Thomas and Betty J. (Merrill E.) Smith, both of Urbana, Ohio, grandchildren, Sharon (Dan) Haddix, of Indian Lake, Ohio, Donna (Bob) Balser, of Urbana, Nola (Roger) Henson, of Westville, Ohio, Pamela Jordan, of Urbana, Kathy (Tim) Jordan, of Urbana, Marcia Sims, of Urbana, Marilyn (Ron) Ferryman, of Urbana, Ohio, Melinda (Andy) Zellner, Rex Smith, of Urbana, 15 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, brothers, Robert Piper, Richard (Betty) Piper, Glenn (Becky) Piper, Joseph (Juanita) Piper, all of Urbana, Ohio, sisters, Nellie Swank, of Urbana, Ohio, Ella Mae Dunn, of Springfield, Ohio, Glenna Louise Jordan, of Richwood, Ohio.

Preceded in death by husbands, Andrew Parsons, Jake Kidder and Ed Hecker, grandson, Lewis Smith, brother, Everett Piper, sisters, Dorothy Dixon, Clarabelle Huffman, and her parents.

She was a member of the New Covenant Outreach Church.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, A Dignity Memorial Provider, 642 S. Main St., Urbana. Those serving as pallbearers were Roger Henson, Jamie Hilton, Dale Perdue Jr., Anthony Shoemaker, Chad Jordan and Adam Jordan

Nancy Adams
Died: Friday, March 29, 2002

Mildred "Nancy" Adams, 78, a longtime resident of West Liberty and Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2002, in McAuley Center, Urbana.

She was born April 18, 1923, in Mechanicsburg, the daughter of Ralph "Pete" and Edna (Edwards) Ferryman Sr. Nancy was retired from the Ankim Company of Bellefontaine, was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles.

Survivors include four children: Linda (Jack) Colwell of DeGraff, Steven D. (Becky) Adams of Gatesville, Texas, Bonnie Pope of Bellefontaine and Kathy Pitts of West Liberty; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Maryann (Bill) Bowshier of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Ralph "Junior" (Virginia) Ferryman of Albuquerque, N.M.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Adams, whom she married on June 30, 1941; two sons, Larry Lee Adams and Danny Allen Adams; two great-granddaughters; two brothers, Donald "Buck" Ferryman and Roger Ferryman.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the SKILLMAN-MCDONALD FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg, with Tom Collier officiating.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.

It was Nancy's wish to be cremated; there will be no interment.

Gerald Norris
Died: Wednesday, October 3, 2001

Gerald Jacob Norris, 85, of West Liberty, Ohio, died at 5:40 a.m. Oct. 3, 2001, in Logan Acres.

He was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Somerville, Ohio, to James Edwin Norris and Elvie Mae Little Norris, both deceased.

He was married to Ida Lee Belle Norris on July 25, 1936, in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She died on July 30, 1987.

He is survived by a son, G. Bruce (Louise) Norris, of Rushsylvania, Ohio; a daughter, Suzan Schrader, of Bellefontaine, Ohio; a brother, James P. Norris, of Xenia, Ohio; grandchildren, Christopher and Michelle Schrader, of Meadow Bridge, W.Va., Jacob Schrader, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Bill and Debra Moon, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Greg and Helen Norris, of Rushsylvania, Ohio, Todd Norris, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Steve Norris, of Florida; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, and a son-in-law, Ralph Schrader.

He worked at Urbana Tool & Die from 1941 to 1970 and retired from Gould's (Siemens). He lived and worked at the Historical Society. He was a member of the Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church, a 1935 BHS graduate, a member of the Elks Lodge 132, member of the Historical Society, member of the ASTE (American Society Tooling & Manufacturing Engineer).

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 6, 2001, in the EICHHOLTZ FUNERAL HOME, Bellefontaine, Ohio, with Rev. William Zeller. Interment will be in Huntsville cemetery, Huntsville, Ohio. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 at Eichholtz Funeral Home, in Bellefontaine.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Historical Society or Logan Acres.

James Clark
Died: Tuesday, October 2, 2001

James Lee "Jim" Clark, 73, a resident of Heartland of Urbana (formerly of Indianapolis and California), went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001. Jim had been a patient of Mercy Memorial Hospital, Springfield, when he died.

He was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Fred and Juanita Long Clark.

He was the president and owner of Dorlee Gear Manufacturing Inc., of Santa Ana, Calif., for the past 30 years, an Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include wife of 37 years, Betty L. Coffey Clark, two sons, Timothy R. Clark, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Edwin Clark, of Lancaster, Calif., brother, Bill Clark, of Camby, Ind., four grandchildren, Matt Clark, of Urbana, Teresa Justin and Zach Clark, of California.

He was preceded in death by parents, a son, Kelly James Clark, and a brother, Earnest Clark.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Mechanicsburg Church of Christ in Christian Union, with Pastor Colin K. Grimmett officiating. Jim's wishes were to be cremated. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the B-Wing of Heartland of Urbana.

Mary Crooks
Died: Wednesday, August 15, 2001

Mary Joann Crooks, 65, of Urbana, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, in her residence.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1935, in Urbana, the daughter of Robert and Waverly Jane Coleman.

She had worked in the tool crib at Grimes for 12 years and was a member of Grace Baptist Church, in Urbana.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Moore and Kari Crooks, both of Urbana; four sons and daughter-in-law, Ben and Amy Crooks, Chester Crooks, David Crooks and Richie Murowski, all of Urbana; 11 grandchildren, Hollie, Donnie, Chris, Jake, Amy, Andrea, Clarissa, Zachery, Arielle, Elizabeth and Chester; four great-grandchildren, Dallas, Garrett, Ethan and Sierra.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sons, Bobby Gene, Donald, Chris and Marty; and one sister, Betty Dickerson.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, Aug. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Pastors Joe Fortna and Steve Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to Mercy Hospice, 1343 Fountain Blvd., Springfield, Ohio 45373.

Delores Forry
Died: Wednesday, August 15, 2001

Delores C. Forry, 90, of St. Paris, Ohio, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, in her residence.

She was born on June 2, 1911, in Champaign County, Ohio, to David Canter and Olive (Yates) Canter, both deceased.

She worked at Piqua Hospital as a registered nurse for many years.

She is survived by one brother, Darus A. Canter, of Hinsdale, N.H.; one nephew, David Canter, of Berlin, N.H.; one niece, Jeannie Shay, of Wisconsin; and two cousins, Marilyn Skiver and Virginia Bond, both of Logan.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, in Spring Grove cemetery, North Heck Hill Road, St. Paris, with Pastor Tom Bolton from the St. Paris United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Johnson-St. Paris EMS, P.O. Box 271, St. Paris, Ohio 43971, or The St. Paris Public Library, P.O. Box 740, St. Paris, Ohio 43072. RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, St. Paris, is handling the arrangements.

Julius Walding Jr.
Died: Wednesday, August 15, 2001

Julius "Dutch" Waldnig Jr., Racine, died on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born on July 4, 1906, in Austria, son of the late Julius Sr. and Marie Tschakert Waldnig.

He retired as a supervisor at Thompson Grinders, in Springfield. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Pomeroy.

He is survived by his wife, Flossie M. Smalley Waldnig, Racine; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jim Moore, Racine; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Alfie Waldnig, Mechanicsburg, and Ted and Elizabeth Waldnig, Mechanicsburg; stepdaughter, June Levi, Sarasota, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma; sons, Donald and Robert Waldnig; granddaughter, Lori Waldnig; parents; sister, Josephine Vogel; and brother, Frank Waldnig.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pomeroy. Officiating will be Rev. Father Walter Heinz. Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. at FISHER-ACREE FUNERAL HOME, in Pomeroy. A vigil service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Springfield, Ohio, and graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18.

Lucy Gardner
Died: Friday, August 10, 2001

Lucy J. Gardner, 85, of Troy, Ohio, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Harborside Healthcare, Troy.

She was born on March 24, 1916, in Gallia County, Ohio, to Jeptha Peters and Ortenzia (Higgins) Peters, both deceased.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, near Christiansburg.

She is survived by four sons and spouses, Rev. Edwin and Marlene Gardner of Gainesville, Fla., Raymond and Judy Gardner, of Covington, Paul and Jean Gardner, of Sardinia, and Jerry and Vonda Gardner, of Troy; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Edwin Gardner, who she married on May 27, 1939, and who died on April 6, 1978; eight brothers; three sisters; one grandson.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, in the Church of Christ in Christian Union, 5020 Panhandle Road, near Christiansburg, with Pastor Carl Ogden officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, New Carlisle. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, in the RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Carpet Fund of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, 5020 Panhandle Road, St. Paris, Ohio 43072. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Eloise Putnam
Died: Friday, August 10, 2001

Eloise Jane Putnam, 77, daughter of Walter and Elva (Slagle) Massie died Friday, August 10, 2001. She and her husband, Russell, lived at 67 Gwathney Church Road in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Eloise was born on December 24, 1923 in South Charleston, Ohio. The family later moved to their home on Route #36 where she grew up and attended Westville School from which she graduated in 1941.

Eloise attended the Myrtle Tree Baptist Church in her youth and later became a member of the First Baptist Church in Saint Paris. She attended St. John's Presbyterian Church after being transferred to Fayetteville. Eloise went to work at Wright Patterson Air Force Base after graduation and was transferred to Macon, Georgia, Fayetteville, Tennessee, and finally to the Red Stone Arsenal at Huntsville, Alabama from where she retired as a budget analyst. After her retirement she and her husband, Russell, were actively involved in the antique business.

In 1947 she married Russell Putnam, who survives along with their two daughters, Julie Marie Humphrey and Susan Jane Bagby, all of Fayetteville. She is also survived by four grandsons and five great grandchildren. She leaves four brothers, Francis, Raymond, Roger, and Jerry Massie, all of Saint Paris; five sisters, Marcella Mahan, Agnes Lemmon, Eleanora (James) Schneider, Rosella (Clyde) Lee, all of Saint Paris and Mary Lee of Marysville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents and three brothers-in-law.

Earlier this week a visitation for family and friends was held in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Visitation for family and friends in Saint Paris will be on Wednesday, August 15, 2001, from 5 to 9 p.m. at RICHESON-WICKHAM AND ATKINS FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, August 16, 2001 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Floyd E. Dallis of the Myrtle Tree Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove cemetery, Saint Paris.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association National Center, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231 or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 L.B.J. Freeway, Suite #3, Dallas, Texas 75244.
