James L. Hefner
TAVARES, Fla. - Former Jefferson resident James L. Hefner, 72, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Tavares, Fla.
Born in Dorset Township, he was a son of Leslie and Ruth of Heffner.
He moved to Tavares from Jefferson in 1991.
For 42 years, he worked as an operating engineer for R.W. Sidley Inc. of Thompson.
He was a life member of Local Union 18 of Cleveland.
He was a former president of the Jefferson Exchange Club, a former Jefferson Township Trustee and a former scout master in Jefferson.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E.; a son, Russell of Atlanta; three daughters, Kristine of Hefner of Atlanta, Kathe Erickson of Yardley, Pa. and Joanne Glover of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Hefner of Warren and Terry Hefner of Unionville; and three sisters, Gertrude Bartle of Jefferson, Patricia Haines of Austinburg and Harriett Mountain of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no services.

George Rock
GENEVA - Madison resident George Rock, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at UHHS Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
Born Oct. 22, 1920, in Stanaford, W.Va., he was a son of Pete and Rosie (Mrus) Rock.
He married
Irene Torok on Nov. 8, 1952, in Smithfield.
The former Smithfield resident had lived in the Madison and Geneva area since 1987.
He worked as a mill wright at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in Steubenville until his retirement in 1966.
The Army veteran had served during World War II. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Smithfield American Legion.
He was a member of the Volnost Club and was active with the Smithfield Athletic Boosters.
He enjoyed polka music, spending with his family and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debra Pitzer of Madison; a son, Allen of Brighton, Mich.; four granddaughters; four sisters, Mildred and Ruth Rock, both of Hopedale, Betty Vargo of Cadiz and Anne Zullo of Wintersville; and a brother, Franklin Rock of Steubenville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Evan, Peter and Mike Rock.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison, with the Rev. John Germaine, of the Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Madison Memorial cemetery in Madison.
Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
William Phipps Jr.
FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas - William Wallace Phipps, Jr., 48, of Conneaut, died with his traveling companion, Janet Edel - Buczyk, Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, in a tractor - trailer accident.
Mr. Phipps was born May 19, 1951, in Windham, the son of William Wallace Sr. and Shirley Jean (Lewis) Phipps. He had also been a resident of Beaufort, N. Carolina.
He was a graduate of Windham High School. Mr. Phipps was employed by Elite Express of Columbus for the past several years as a semi - truck driver.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Korea.
Survivors include his mother of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; a son, William Wallace Phipps III of Warren; and three brothers, Michael of Midway Park, N.C., Daniel of Jacksonville, N. C. and Joel of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A private service for both Phipps and Edel - Buczyk will be held at a later date.

James I. Weddle
ANDOVER - James I. Weddle, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at the Miller Memorial Health Care Center in Andover.
Born Jan. 26, 1927, he was a son of Samuel L. and Bernice E. (McMillin) Weddle.
He married
Betty J. Offenburg on Aug. 1, 1952, at the Jefferson Nazarene Church in Jefferson.
He was a lifelong Ashtabula County resident and had lived in Lenox Township since 1971.
Mr. Weddle was retired from Rockwell International Break Plant in Saybrook Township, where he worked for 35 years.
When he was younger, he traveled across the 48 continental United States on a motorcycle. In his later years, he enjoyed collecting antique clocks, going to auctions, bowling and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; two children, James E. and Carol Weddle, both of Jefferson; and two grandchildren, Gregory and Samantha Weddle.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Weddle and two sisters, Vivian Tressler and Gertrude Abbot.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., a Family Care Group affiliate, 49 West Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. G. Reed Taylor, interim pastor of the Lenox Federated Church, officiating. Burial will be in Lenox Center cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
George J. Fenton Jr.
CONNEAUTVILLE, Pa. - State Highway 18 resident George J. Fenton Jr., 79, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at his residence, following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 8, 1920, in Beaver Center, Pa., he was a son of George J. Sr. and Naomi Brown Fenton.
He married
Marlis Bates on March 3, 1945.
He was a retired pipefitter for Talon. He had also worked for Westinghouse and as a mechanic at Lake City Motors.
Mr. Fenton was a Navy veteran, having served in World War I. He was a member of the Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a member of the Dicksonburg United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis of Conneautville and Leonard of Meadville, Pa.; a daughter, Diane Carr of Pierpont Township; a stepdaughter, Inez Fergerson of Cold Water, Mich.; six grandchildren; four great - grandchildren; and a sister, Altheda Mallory of Jefferson.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Todd Fenton and Steven Carr and six brothers.
Funeral is noon Wednesday at the White - Cool Funeral Home, 1405 Main St., Conneautville, with the Rev. Barbara English, of the Dicksonburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pierpont cemetery in Pierpont Township.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Margie E. Burleson
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Cannon Drive resident Margie Emma Burleson, 63, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A native of Malery, W.Va., she was a daughter of Charles W. and Eura Fitzwater Kincaid.
She was retried from Geneva Rubber Co., where she had worked for more than 22 years.
She was a member of Roddey Baptist Church in Rock Hill, where she served in the WMU.
Survivors include her husband, Paul W. Sr.; a son, Paul W. Jr. of Ashtabula; three daughters, Marilyn B. Bean of Rock Hill and Diana B. Dense and Mary B. Mendrala, both of Ashtabula; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Don Kincaid of Fort Pierce, Fla., Harold Lee Kincaid of Beckley, W.Va. and Dean Kincaid of Gauley Bridge, W.Va.; and two sisters, Velma Burleson of Bent Tree, W. Va. and Maxine Gibson of Fayetteville, W.Va.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Roddey Baptist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Morrow officiating and the Rev. Miriam Mick assisting. Burial will be in Neely Creek ARP Church cemetery.

George W. Paull
PARMA - North Royalton resident George W. Paull, 92, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Parma Hospital.
Born July 4, 1907, in Continental Three, Pa., he was a son of Joseph H. and Lida (Luckey) Paull.
Formerly of Williamsfield Township and Uniontown, he had lived in North Royalton since May.
He worked as a coal miner for many years in Uniontown, Pa.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Maclejunes of Pasadena, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Della (Woodmancy) in 1940 and his second wife, Camilla, in 1996; two daughters, Delores Marks and Loretta Stehlik; a son, John; five brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 134 Prospect St., Andover. Burial will be in Williamsfield Center cemetery.
Calling hour is noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
