Marjorie L. Freeman
COLUMBUS - Former Chardon Township resident Marjorie L. Freeman, 92, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, in Riverside Hospital, Columbus.
Born Jan. 27, 1907, in South Harpersfield, she was the daughter of Howard and Millie (Bigelow) Judd. She had lived in Columbus for 10 years, moving from Hernando, Fla.
A homemaker, she was a graduate of the Andrew School for Girls, Willoughby. A longtime member of Chardon United Methodist Church, she was a former Sunday school teacher, Brownie leader, and a member of the Pythian Sisters.
Survivors include daughters Judith Goldberg of Columbus, Joyce Stifel of South Bend, Ind., and Janet Redmond of Marion; grandchildren Jeffrey and Andrew Kelly, Megan Stifel and Jud and Allison Redmond; and a great - grandson.
She was preceded in death Aug. 14, 1989 by her husband, Shirley Wilber, whom she wed Feb. 18, 1941; her parents; sisters Lulu Otto, Addie Whipple, Minta Yager and Etta McBride; and brothers, Lloyd, Clifford and Elmer Judd.
Service is 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St., Chardon, with the Rev. Robert D. Penrod of Pilgrim Christian Church, Chardon, officiating. Burial will be in Chesterland cemetery, Chester Township.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Andrews School Scholarship Fund, 38588 Mentor Ave., Willoughby 44094.

Helen R. Hecht
ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - Helen R. Hecht, 81, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at her home.
Calling hours are set for 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Zaback - Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

Hannah Heck
ASHTABULA - Hannah Heck, 89, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at the home of Herbert and Marita Rinas, where she had lived for the past year.
Born Feb. 17, 1910, in Germany, she was the daughter of Ferdinand and Theofilia Kuppe. She lived in Cleveland most of her life before moving to Ashtabula a year ago.
She had worked in the custodial department of the Cleveland Public Library for 13 years.
Survivors include a sister, Olga Gruening of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Karl, in 1991; two sisters, Hulda Kuppe and Ida Rinas; and a brother, Edmond Kuppe.
Service is 1 p.m. today at the Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Chester Hitchcock officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted.
Calling hour will precede the service at noon today at the funeral home.

Margaretta L. Hudson
WOODLAND PARK, Colo. - Margaretta L. Hudson, 94, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Colorado Springs Nursing Home, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Born March 24, 1905, in Mansfield, she had been employed as a teacher while living in Ohio.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Hudson; a brother, Arthur Laird; two grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
No services will be held. She will be cremated, with interment of ashes in Ohio at a later date.
Mountain Memorial Funeral Home, 51 North Road, Divide, Colo. is in charge of arrangements.

Elsie R. Kiser
ALBION, Pa. - Elsie R. Kiser, 65, of Route 6N, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, at her residence.
Born March 21, 1934, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Emil and Sylvia (Hesoun) Triska.
She retired in 1996 as a finishing inspector at Premix Inc., North Kingsville, where she had been employed for 26 years. She was a member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Albion, and the Premix Retirement Group.
Survivors include her husband, Richard, whom she wed April 23, 1954; two daughters, Debbie Hosler of West Springfield, Pa., and Patty Drakes of Albion; three sons, Jim of Ashtabula, Rick of Albion, and Kevin of West Springfield; two sisters, Eleanor Fredericy of Maple Heights and Marion Hood of Russells Point; 14 grandchildren; and two great - grandchildren.
A 9 a.m. prayer service will precede the 10 a.m. funeral Mass Friday at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 180 E. State St., Albion 16401. The Rev. John Fischer will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Albion cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. E., Girard, Pa.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Home Care and Hospice, 232 W. 25th St., Erie, Pa. 16544; American Cancer Society, 2115 W. 38th St., Erie, 16508; St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church; or the Albion Fire Department, 19 Smock Ave., Albion.

Catherine Schuman
ERIE, Pa. - Catherine Schuman, 79, of West 18th Street, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at St. Vincent Health Center.
Born May 8, 1920, in Erie, she was the daughter of John and Katherine (Ignator) Stopera.
Mrs. Schuman was employed for 33 years as a long - distance fraud investigator with GTE, retiring in 1984.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Fetzner of Erie and Katherine Rivera of Conneaut; 14 grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; three sisters and a brother.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Harvey A. and Ronald E.
Calling hours and burial will be private, at the convenience of the family.
A. Brugger & Sons Funeral Home, 449 E. Ninth St., Erie 16504, is in charge of arrangements.

Rita E. Tau
SAEGERTOWN, Pa. - Rita E. Tau, 98, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Crawford County Care Center, where she had been a resident for the past five years. She lived most of her life in Venango, Pa.
Born Feb. 27, 1901, in Vandergrift, Pa., she was the daughter of John Sloan and Daisy Elvirda Shellhammer Smeltzer. She married Elmer Roy Tau Dec. 2, 1922.
Mrs. Tau was a shipping clerk for Palmer Bros. Tool & Gage, now known as Meadville Forging, from 1946 until her retirement in 1965. A member of First Church of God in Cambridge Springs, Pa., she enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Survivors include five sons, Paul of Frost Proof, Fla., Elmer of Lake City, Pa., Everett and John, both of Venango and Frank Tau of Gilbert, Ariz.; two daughters, Pauline Donnell of Venango and Elsie Mae Batchelor of Babson Park, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; 39 great - grandchildren; several great - great - grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Jastromb of Riverside, Calif.; and a brother, Willard Smeltzer of Saegertown.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 21, 1984; a daughter, Ruth Williams; a son, James Tau; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Batchelor and Oz Bachelor; three sisters, Iva Terrill, Viola Lowe and Ora Williams; and a brother, Merle Smeltzer.
A funeral was held Monday at First Church of God in Cambridge Springs. Burial was in Venango cemetery.
Van Matre Funeral Home, 335 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs was in charge of arrangements.

John S. Bulawek
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Former Geneva resident John S. Bulawek, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in a Cleveland hospital.
He was a retired electrician.
He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Rose M.; daughters Patricia Garbutt of Ashtabula, Rose Beanstutter and Joan Massie, both of Cleveland, Tenn.; and a grandchild.
Graveside service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mechanicsville cemetery in Austinburg Township, with the Rev. Paul Tobin of the Assumption Church of Geneva, officiating.
The Buckner - Rush Funeral Home of Cleveland handled the arrangements in Tennessee. The Kennedy - Billman Funeral Home, 323 Broadway, a Family Care Group affiliate, is handling local arrangements.

Henry S. Cifelli
ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - Henry S. Cifelli, 78, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in the Ashtabula County Medical Center following a long illness.
The son of Anthony and Concetta Cifelli, he was born June 2, 1921, in CONNEAUT.
He married the former Colleen Flaherty on March 18, 1967.
A lifelong Ashtabula County resident, he graduated from Conneaut High School in 1940.
He served with the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Cifelli was owner and operator of Adolph's Spaghetti House for 31 years. He also was an iron worker in Cleveland for 23 years.
He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, the Cleveland Indians and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Lisa and Gina, both of Ashtabula and Samantha of Toledo; two grandchildren, Sarah and Diana; and a sister, Dorothy Kern of Cleveland.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Colleen Morano, Louise Pignotti, Mana Church and Adeline Vacca and eight brothers, Harry, Leo, Tony, Bill, Albert and Adolph and two in infancy.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ross - Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Philip Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum in North Kingsville.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashtabula Township Fire Department.

Kay Eileen DeWeese
PIQUA - Kay Eileen DeWeese, 62, of Statler Road, died Monday, Jan. 17, at Upper Valley Medical Center.
The daughter of M. Ralph and Mildred (Noxon) Littler, she was born Oct. 3, 1937, in Colebrook Township.
She married Donald DeWeese on Sept. 18, 1960, at Wayne Congregational Church. They then moved to Piqua.
In 1938, her family moved to Wayne Township, where she was active in 4 - H and church activities. She graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1955, was a summer 4 - H agent in Trumbull County and a former craft instructor at 4 - H Camp Whitewood in Windsor Township.
She graduated from Ohio State University in 1959, with a degree in home economics. She became a Geauga County Home Extension agent.
Mrs. DeWeese was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school.
A former home economist for the Pioneer Rural Electric Cooperative, she was chairperson of the Springcreek Township election poll and was a member of the Miami County Farmland Preservation Task Force. From 1974 to 1982, she had participated in a presentation called "Farm Life Today."
She was a member of both the Shelby and Miami County Genealogy societies, a former adviser of the Stitching and Stewing 4 - H Club and a former 4 - H judge in surrounding counties.
She had been a long - time member of the Sheepskin Community Club and was a member of the Good Neighbors Farm Bureau, where she served on several committees.
Survivors include her mother of Youngstown; her husband; two daughters, Donna Szymanski of Lakeview, N.Y., and Beth Metcalf of Columbus; a son, Ken of Piqua; six grandchildren; a brother, Myron Littler of Geneva; and two sisters, Linda Lipps of Gustavus and Gail Piper of Morgantown, W.V.
She was preceded in death by her father.
The funeral was held Jan. 20 at the Bethel United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Ramming officiated. Burial was in Forest Hill cemetery in Piqua.
Arrangements were handled by the Suber Funeral Home in Fletcher.
Memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 at Wayne Congregational Church, routes 322 and 193. The Rev. Robert Coleman and the Rev. David Ramming officiating.

Cheryl L. Ecklund - Pudder
ASHTABULA - Cheryl L. Ecklund - Pudder, 45, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
The daughter of Richard and R. Jean (Ankrom) Pudder, she was born April 5, 1954, in Geneva.
A homemaker, she had been a lifelong resident of the Geneva and Ashtabula areas.
Survivors include a daughter, Kerri Brummit of Ashtabula and two brothers, Robert and Todd Pudder, both of Geneva.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a son, Roger K. II.
Service is noon Saturday at The Behm Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 175 South Broadway, Geneva. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Geneva.
Calling hours are 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Isabell R. Harlan
CHARDON - Isabell R. Harlan, 96, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at her home.
The daughter of Duncan and Marie (Leonard) Robertson, she was born Dec. 10, 1903, in Chicago.
She married Charles A. Harlan in 1924 in Chicago.
A former resident of Wellesley, Mass., and Mayfield Heights, she had lived in the Chardon area for 30 years.
A homemaker, she had volunteered at the Geauga Regional Hospital gift shop in Claridon Township for many years.
She enjoyed playing golf and bridge.
Survivors include a daughter, Marian H. Nelson of Claridon Township; eight grandchildren, Paul Hederstrom of Virginia Beach, Va., Jack Hederstrom of Akron, Marian Christine Hederstrom Condon of Claridon Township and Charles B. Harlan, Sherry DeFrank, Robert Harlan and Jesse Harlan, all of Baltimore; nine great - grandchildren; and four great - step - grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Charles A. Jr.; and a brother, Leonard Robertson.
Graveside service is Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Woodlawn cemetery in Wellesley. The Rev. Martin Copenhaver, of the Wellesley Congregational Church in Wellesley will officiate.
Memorial service is 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Pilgrim Christian Church, 202 South Hambden St., Chardon.
The Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, is handling arrangements.

Lena G. Hill
FAIRVIEW, Pa. - Lena G. Hill, 95, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Fairview Manor in Fairview, Pa.
The daughter of Laurin and Lizzie (Clark) Huston, she was born March 26, 1904, in Conneaut.
She had lived at Fairview Manor since October. Before that, she had lived in the Barnett building on West Pearl Street in Albion, Pa., for 21 years. Before living in Albion, she had lived in the Cherry Hill, Pa., area since 1936.
Mrs. Hill had worked as a cook at the Albion Diner for 20 years, retiring in 1974. She also had hung wallpaper.
She was associated with the West Springfield United Methodist Church, and was a Ladies Aid of Cherry Hill.
She enjoyed cooking family dinners, baking, - especially pies - cleaning, growing flowers, gardening and baseball.
Survivors include a daughter, Wilma Shiley of Leesville, S.C.; two sons, Gordon of Albion and Laurin "Ike" of Cranesville, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great - grandchildren; and 16 great - great - grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Hill; three daughters, Evelyn Kreider, Lucille Showalter and Margaret in childhood; a granddaughter, Sally; and a sister, Ethel Pirring.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Peg Welch, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Kelloggsville cemetery.
Calling hour is 9:30 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Albion Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
