James F. Long Sr.
BEECH GROVE, IN. - James Franklin Long Sr., 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999.
Mr. Long worked 10 years as a pipe fitter for Mitchum - Schaefer Inc., retiring in 1979. Earlier, he was a blacksmith for the New York Central Railroad, working in the Ashtabula rail yards from 1953 to 1965.
Mr. Long served in the Army during World War II, and was a charter member of the Church of God in Ashtabula.
He was a charter member of the the Beech Grove Church of God and was Sunday school superintendent there for 26 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Maxine (Jackson); four daughters, Alice Jean French, Frances Ann Candela, Sandra Carol Nelson and Vicki Lynn McGown; two sons, James Franklin Jr., and Phillip Joe; stepmother, Rosalee Long; four brothers, Russell, Walter G., Ernest G. and Donald R.; one sister, Beatrice Rowlett; 22 grandchildren; 36 great - grandchildren; and two great - great - grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Beech Grove Church of God. Burial will be in New Crown cemetery.
Patricia A. Mullen
ESPYVILLE - Pecan Drive resident Patricia A. Mullen, 52, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at UPMC - Horizon Hospital in Greenville.
Born Aug. 16, 1947 in Meadville, she was the daughter of Mark J. and Kathryn C. (Jordan) Money.
Mrs. Mullen, a lifelong area resident, worked for Alltel Telephone Co. in Meadville for more than 30 years.
She married
Howard R. Mullen on Nov. 19, 1971. She enjoyed cross stitching, crafts, antiques and yard work.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Jackie L. Major of Point Mugu, Calif.; one son, Eric R. of Mountain Home, Idaho; one brother, Roger of Jamestown, Pa.; one sister, Kathy Gregg of Milton, NH.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Andover Church of Christ, Stilman Avenue, Andover, with the Rev. Robert C. Gears officiating. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date.
No calling hours will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements will be handled by the Baumgardner Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 134 Prospect St., Andover.
Richard L. Park
GENEVA - West Tibbitts Street resident Richard L. Park, 60, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born June 4, 1939, in Geneva, he was a son of Lawrence A. and Lillian M. (Amsden) Park.
He married
Karen McCallister on Jan. 19, 1974, in Somerset, Pa.
The lifelong area resident had spent five years working as a press operator for Zehrco Co. in Jefferson.
He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Karen C. Park of Geneva; three sons, James and Robert of California and Jon Freeman of Geneva; three daughters, Karryl Freeman of Geneva, Kim Adkins of Geneva and Rhonda Schmidt of Ashtabula; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Phylis Martin and Helen Willis, both of Geneva; and a brother, Robert of Geneva.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at 69 West Tibbitts St.
No calling hours will be held.

Harriet M. Anchor
HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP - Harriet Marie Anchor, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at her daughter's home.
Born Oct. 30, 1915, in Madison, she was the daughter of Alfred and Maud (Fails) Richmond.
A lifelong resident of the Madison/Geneva area, Mrs. Anchor was a homemaker.
She married
Stanley Anchor on July 14, 1931, in Ripley, New York
She enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She was the former president of the Cork PTA.
Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Drought of Geneva; a son, Richard Stanley of Louisville; and seven grandchildren and 10 great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975; three sisters: Pauline Ellison, Margarette Spry, and Jane Millender; and four brothers: Howard, John, Frederick, and Amos Richmond.
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Behm Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva, with the Rev. Dan O'Connor of the United Church officiating. Burial will be in the Unionville cemetery.

Susan J. Bieder
ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - Susan J. Bieder, 80, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, in the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born August 26, 1919, she was the daughter of Charles and Grace (Bedell) DeGroodt and was a lifelong Ashtabula resident.
She worked for Carlisle Department Store in the drapery department and also for Leathercraft.
She enjoyed sewing, camping, reading, traveling, and spending time with family, friends and neighbors.
Survivors include, her husband, Harry O., whom she married
Sept. 3, 1941; a daughter, Mary Barchok of Madison; and a grandson, Matthew Lynn Barchok of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert L.; a sister, Mary Harrison; and two brothers, Lewis and Walter DeGroodt.
Service is Tuesday, 11 a.m. at the Ross - Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. David L. Hofer officiating. Burial will be in the Edgewood cemetery.

David Bowens III
ASHTABULA - David Bowens III, 18, of Plymouth Ridge Road, died Thursday Jan. 20, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile crash.
Born Sept. 14, 1981, in Washington D.C., he was the son of David Bowens II and Jermaine Dene' Weaver and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.
A 1999 Edgewood High School graduate, he was attending Kent State University, Ashtabula Campus, and worked at Dunham Sports Store.
While at Edgewood, he was an accomplished track and cross country athlete, earning awards for most improved regional qualifier with his team, and the four - year award. In cross country, he earned second team ALL - NEC honors during his senior year.
David excelled in art and won the Hildreth R. Hume Youth Class Award at the Geneva Artist's Jamboree in 1994 and the Kiwanis Art Scholarship Award at the Ashtabula Arts Center in 1998.
He had written and performed rap music under the name "King David" and had a song, "Time For A Change" with his sister "Queen" Jermaine II, under review by Columbia records. He won first place at the Rap Talent search, sponsored by the Mary Chatman Center.
He won the Rev. Stanley Taylor Scholarship for the Mary Chatman Center and the Rising Up and Moving On Award from Ashtabula County Children Services Board.
Survivors include his father of Leavittsburg; three sisters, Jermaine Denee Bowens II of Cleveland Heights, Conny and Davina; four brothers, James and Anthony and Michael and Andrew Stills; his parents, Chuck and Cheryl Stills of Kingsville Township, with whom he lived for the past 10 years; maternal grandparents, Willie Weaver of Aquasco, Md, and Anna Weaver of Washington D.C.; paternal grandmother Ernestine Bowens of Ashtabula; and grandmother, Neva Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jermaine Dene' Weaver and a sister, LaRonda Jones.
Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 615 W. Prospect, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Elizabeth Eaton of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Rev. Steve Sargeant of Hiawatha Church of God and Christ, Rev. Neroy Carter of Jesus Only Pentecostal Church, and the Rev. Michael Thompson of New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood cemetery.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church.

Charles D. Cooper
NORTH ROYALTON - Charles D. Cooper, 51, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at his home following a six - month illness.
Born June 13, 1948, in Conneaut, he was the son of Milton D. and Barbara J. (Swift) Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was a resident of North Royalton for many years, coming from Pierpont, where he grew up.
He was employed by the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. for 30 years before he became ill.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam war, serving with the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah; his mother of Pierpont Township; a daughter, Valerie of North Royalton; and a sister, Lou Ann Nagle of Ft. Worth, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Milton, and his grandparents.
A service was held Saturday in North Royalton.
Albert J. Herlevi
ASHTABULA - Albert J. Herlevi, 92, died early Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born Aug. 22, 1907, in Ashtabula, he was the son of John and Hilda (Harju) Herlevi and was a lifelong area resident.
He had been employed as superintendent of maintenance in the Ohio Department of Highways.
A 1927 graduate of Harbor High School, Mr. Herlevi and his graduating class president. He played baseball, football, tennis and he played on "The Little Five" basketball team that toured the local area. He also umpired local baseball game.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling, woodworking and spending time with his family.
He was a former member of the Town Choir. He was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.
Mr. Herlevi was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he was an usher and served on Church Council.
He married
Mary Haytcher on Sept. 9, 1934, at the Finnish Congregational Church, Ashtabula. They were married
by his uncle, the Rev. A. A. Harju.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters Mariel Ann Kujala of Ashtabula and Margaret Corrigan of Norwalk; seven grandchildren, Barbara Graffice, Tim Corrigan, Kelly Heyman, Katie Davis, Carrie Euype, Eric Kujala, and Ruth Kujala; 13 great - grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Couch of Avonmore, Pa.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Carl; three sisters, Esther Townsend, Edna Heath, and Eleanore Ashcraft; a foster sister, Hulda Rinda; and two grandchildren, Michael Albert Corrigan and Lisa Ann Kujala.
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, 933 Michigan Av., Ashtabula, with the Rev. David L. Hofer officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, and from 10 to the time of service Wednesday at the church.
Contributions may be made to the memorial fund at Bethany Lutheran Church.
Margaret E. (Partridge) Ketcham
CONNEAUT - Margaret E. Ketcham, 79, of Lake Road, died Friday evening Jan. 21, 2000, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville Township.
Born Sept. 19, 1920, in Gustavus, she was the daughter of Truman and Ollie (White) Partridge.
A 60 - year resident, Mrs. Ketcham was a homemaker.
She enjoyed playing cards and fishing. She was a member of Amboy United Methodist Church, Conneaut.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Earl of North Kingsville; a son, Kenneth Fowler; two daughters, Jane Dingman of Logansport, Ind., and Judith Haughn of Munice, Ind.; and nine grandchildren; and two great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, George, and two sisters, Georgianna Fowler and Mary Louise Mumaw.
Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Burton Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Mike Grant of Amboy United Methodist Church, Conneaut. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Justin Lee Lott
NORTH KINGSVILLE - Justin Lee Lott, 8, of E. Center Street, died Friday Jan. 21, 2000, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut.
Born Feb. 19, 1991, in Conneaut he was the son of Cynthia Lott.
He attended Ridgeview Elementary School in Ashtabula and was also home tutored. He enjoyed playing Nintendo and watching wrestling.
Survivors include his parents, Cynthia Lott and Skip Dodge; his sister, Carrie; his grandparents, Ron and Mary Lott of Ashtabula; and his great grandparents, Don and Charlotte Bowers of Conneaut.
Service is 2 p.m. at the Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Tim Kraus of Conneaut Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

Theodore I. Mowers
PARKMAN TOWNSHIP - Theodore I. Mowers, 67, died Friday, Jan 21, 2000, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital, Claridon Township.
Born Dec. 15, 1933, in Oneonta, N.Y., he was the son of Harold and Marguerite (Klomp) Mowers and was an area resident for 35 years and worked as a union excavating engineer for 25 years.
He enjoyed doing any kind of project with his hands and enjoyed hunting.
He was a member of the Local 18 Operating Engineers Union, Cleveland.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Reitz) Mowers, to whom he was married
for 35 years; six children: Vicki Kruse and Beverly Maleski of Ft. Myers, Fla., Cherie Vargo of Cleveland, Mary Jane Vargo of Conyers, Ga., James Varg0 of Lithonia, Ga., and Michael Vargo of Snellville, Ga.; nine grandchildren and 15 great - grandchildren; a brother, Howard of Frankfort, NY; and a half - sister, Jenny.
He was preceded in death by his parents and half - sister, Mary Lou.
Service is 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield. Cremation will take place at a later date.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 p.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Walter D. Sharp Jr.
CONNEAUT - Walter D. Sharp Jr., 61, of Harbor Street, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Inn - Conneaut Health Center.
Born April 11, 1938, he was the son of Walter D. Sr. and Laina (Rankinen) Sharp.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Mr. Sharp was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had sailed with the Colombia Line on the Great Lakes.
He had been employed at Lake Erie Plating of Ashtabula and Eighmy Corp. of Conneaut.
He enjoyed cars and being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his mother of Conneaut; two daughters Christine Gabel of Cranesville, Pa., and Joyce Hetrick of Smithville; two sons, James of Bayou Vista, La. and William of Conneaut; four sisters, Betty Jane Eloranto of Rantoul, Ill., Peggy Valenti, Shirley Bunnell, and Judy Pataky of Conneaut; four brothers, Jean Richard, Ronald L., David G., and Robert B. of Conneaut; 10 grandchildren; and his dear friend, Beckie Burgos.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother Bill.
Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut with the Rev. Dr. Clyde A. McGee, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood cemetery.

Sidney A. VanCourt
REYNOLDSBURG - Sidney A. VanCourt, 63, of Reynoldsburg, formerly of Richmond, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000 at his home after a long illness.
Born August 17, 1936, in Youngstown, he was the son of Clyde H. and Meta E. (Scheppelmann) VanCourt.
Mr. VanCourt owned and operated a dairy farm in Richmond Township until his retirement.
He was a 1954 graduate of Andover High School.
In 1956, he placed first in the Ohio Teenage Road - E - O and third in the National Teenage Road - E - O. He was a member of the Richmond Grange 135 and participated in other numerous agricultural activities and organizations until his retirement. Mr. VanCourt enjoyed playing volleyball, car races and tractor pulls.
Survivors include a son, Eric J. VanCourt Sr. of Reynoldsburg; three daughters, Vicki L. VanCourt Parks of Cortland, Nikole S. Lanzara of Andover, and Natalie I. Heath of Ashtabula; a sister, Mrs. Wallace (Mary Jane) Huskonen of Brecksville; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is noon on Wednesday at Penn Line Church of Christ, with Pastor Dave Roberts officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
