Gladys M. Trask Janke
GENEVA - East Liberty Street resident Gladys M. Trask Janke, 101, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at UHHS Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
Born Aug. 6, 1898, in Geneva, she was the daughter of George and Jennifer (Davis) Wharram and had lived in Geneva all of her life.
She was employed by Tieing of Myrtle and was a domestic cleaner.
She married George Janke on Jan. 4, 1975, in Jamestown, N.Y.
Mrs. Janke helped families in need and shared her resources and wealth with people. She had a special prayer ministry for healing of the sick and led many to Christ.
Survivors include her husband; two grandsons, Charles Trask of Geneva, and David Trask of Bedford; four great - granddaughters; and one great - great - granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bryan Trask, on Feb. 23, 1921; a son, Arthur Trask, on July 10, 1995; and one grandson, George Trask, in June of 1999.
Funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, with Pete Toth, of the the Independent Church of God in Painesville Township, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Geneva.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Albin F. Urankar
GENEVA - Dr. Albin F. Urankar, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at his Geneva home.
Born Aug. 29, 1917, in Collinwood, he was a son of Anton and Agnes (Zupancic) Urankar.
He married Marian E. Lustrik on Feb. 21, 1946, in Cleveland.
He moved to Geneva from Cleveland in 1957.
Dr. Urankar was graduated from Western Reserve University's School of Medicine in 1943. After World War II, he established a private practice in the Collinwood area. In 1952, he went back to Western Reserve to study in the field of radiology.
He was a practicing radiologist at hospitals in Ashtabula, Conneaut and Geneva, until his retirement in 1986. During his career, he was able to visit China as diplomatic relations were being reestablished in 1977.
He served as a captain in the Army during the post - war occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged from the Army in April 1947 and the medical reserves in 1953.
He was a member of several medical societies, including the American Medical Association and the Eastern Radiological Society of America.
Dr. Urankar enjoyed skiing and annual trips to the western United States and Europe. Two years ago, he placed second in a downhill ski event for seniors.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Marilyn Lateulade of Miami, Fla., Nancy of Allentown, Pa., and Joan Allgood of Chesterland; a son, Richard of Mt. Lakes, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; a great - grandson; and a sister, Ann Lukek of Richmond Heights.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Assumption Catholic Church, 594 West Main St., Geneva, with the Rev. Paul Tobin officiating. Burial will be in All Souls cemetery, Chardon.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Assumption Catholic Church, 594 West Main St., Geneva 44041, or to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor 44060.
The Behm Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 175 South Broadway, Geneva, is in charge of arrangements.

Wilbur R. Garstenshlager
CONNEAUT - Wilbur R. Garstenshlager, 82, of Bell Street, Conneaut, died Sunday evening, Oct. 17, 1999, at his home.
He was born Nov. 13, 1916, in Ashtabula, the son of George and Elmina (Timms) Garstenshlager.
He was employed at Conneaut Grain and Fuel Co., and also at Reliance Electric, where he retired as a tool grinder in 1980. He was a member of South Ridge Baptist Church and enjoyed gospel music.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing the guitar, mouth organ and fiddle. He and his wife provided a gospel ministry, playing for shut - ins and nursing homes. He also was an accomplished woodworker and mechanic.
Survivors include a son, Richard A. Garstenshlager Sr., of Conneautville, Pa.; a daughter, Judy Yarington Clough of Conneaut; 12 grandchildren and eight great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel M. Garstenshlager, in 1996; a son, Robert, in 1979; a daughter, Darlene Kutierna, on Sept. 15; three brothers, Roy, Albert and one in infancy; and three sisters, Hazel Alderman, Dora Diezman and Mary Garstenshlager.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. The Rev. Roger P. Hogle, pastor of South Ridge Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to either South Ridge Baptist Church or the WGOJ radio station. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Luther C. Gentry Jr.
ANDOVER - Luther C. Gentry Jr., 73, of Andover, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
He was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Braeholm, W.Va., the son of Luther C. Gentry Sr., and Ina (Withrow) Gentry.
Mr. Gentry was a 35 - year resident, moving here from Man, W.Va. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey Gentry of Ferrelsburg, W.Va., Randy Gentry of Andover, and Joseph Gentry of Middlefield; a daughter, Sheila Clute of Kinsman; four brothers, Walter of Shirley, Mass., Donald of Columbus, and Delmas and Allen, both of Orwell; a sister, Mary Ellis of Warren; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Irene Toppings, in 1976; a brother, Billy Earl Gentry; and a sister, Martha Brooks.
Service is 8 p.m. Friday at Paine Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell. Cremation will follow the service.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Omy Lee Knapp
ASHTABULA - Omy Lee Knapp, 56, of Shadyside Avenue, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at her home.
She was born Aug. 12, 1943, in Floyd County, Ky., the daughter of Squire and Nannie (Hall) Hamilton.
An Ashtabula resident for most of her life, Mrs. Knapp most recently owned and operated the Geneva Convenient Food Mart. She acquired the business in 1993. She previously was employed by Bunker Hill Valu King and was a manager at Dairy Mart.
She attended Saybrook United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking, dancing and being with her family.
Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey A. and Kevin J., both of Jefferson, and Mark W. of Ashtabula; a daughter, Michelle L. Knapp - Clark of Geneva; six grandchildren; two sisters, Lonnie VanGilder and Chris Michaels, both of Ashtabula; a brother, Evan Hamilton of Ashtabula; and Mrs. Knapp's former husband, Lester L. Varner of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, David R. Knapp, in 1979; and her father.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Richard Wright, associate pastor of Jefferson Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Ashtabula County, or to the Ireland Cancer Center, Cleveland. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Marian L. Oliver
ASHTABULA - Marian Lemponen Oliver, 89, of E. 26th Street, died early Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at the Country Club Retirement Center, where she had been a resident the past six years.
The daughter of Albert and Blanche (Armstrong) Owen, she was born Sept. 7, 1910, in Austinburg Township. She lived most of her life in Austinburg Township, before moving to Mount Dora, Fla., in 1980. She later moved to Jacksonville, Fla., before returning to Ashtabula in 1993.
Mrs. Oliver was a teacher in the Geneva Area City Schools. She taught 32 years at the Austinburg Elementary School, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the the Ashtabula County Teachers Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.
She enjoyed painting and playing cards, especially bridge.
She is survived by four children, Donald L. of Ashtabula, David O. of Austinburg Township, Norma L. Keller of Geneva, and Phillip A. of Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; six great - grandchildren; three brothers, William Owen of California, Ralph Owen of New Jersey, and Charles Owen of Florida; and one sister, Eleanor Bone of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Rufus Lemponen in 1962 and Leonard Oliver in 1993; a son, James Lemponen in 1999; and a grandson, Douglas Lemponen.
Cremation took place at the Family Care Group Cremation Center. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., a Family Care Group affiliate, 49 W. Jefferson St. The Rev. Raymond Mote will officiate. Burial of ashes will take place in Mechanicsville cemetery, Austinburg Township.
Calling hours are 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

William `Bud' Robison
THOMPSON - William T. "Bud" Robison, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at Heather Hill Hospital Health and Care Center, Chardon.
A lifelong Thompson resident, he was born Dec. 4, 1913, the son of Willis J. and Elizabeth (Buckley) Robison.
He graduated from Thompson High School in 1931, and dairy farmed all his life. He belonged to the Thompson Fire Department from 1943 to 1976, and was captain of the organization from 1952 to 1976.
Mr. Robison also was an avid raccoon hunter, and he played on baseball leagues in Chardon and Montville. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Survivors include a niece and two nephews, Mary Beth Bartlett of Columbia Falls, Mt. and Thomas P. and Paul Daniel Robison, both of Thompson; and a brother, Paul, also of Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas J.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road, Thompson. The Rev. Paul Smith will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Thompson.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison.

Lynn A. Wessell
NEW LYME TOWNSHIP - Lynn A. Wessell, 43, of Brockway Road, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at his home, after being diagnosed with cancer three weeks ago.
Mr. Wessell was born Jan. 1, 1956, in Warren. He was the son of Claude M. and Anna Belle (Evans) Wessell.
A lifelong resident of New Lyme Township, he married JoEllen M. Mills April 29, 1978, at Cherry Valley United Methodist Church.
He was an accomplished tool and die maker and design engineer, who was employed at several area firms. At the time of his death, he worked for S&S Tool Inc. in Conneaut.
He was affiliated with Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, and was a member of the National Tool and Die Association. He also was an assistant leader with Boy Scout Troop 155 in Rock Creek.
He enjoyed scouting, high school sports, especially football, and computers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dylan L. and Joshua L., both at home; three sisters, Claudia Paul of New Lyme Township and Rose Sarna and Betty Wessell, both of Jefferson; and five brothers, Robert of New Lyme Township, Jerry of Elyria, Jack of Rome, Ga., Wynn of Lenox Township and Ken of Harpersfield Township.
Mr. Wessell was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral is 1 p.m. Thursday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., a Family Care Group affiliate, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Julie Hanneman, pastor of Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ninevah cemetery, Rome Township.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Boy Scouts of America, Troop 155; or the Jefferson Area High School Athletic Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Vera Mae McComb
GENEVA - ON - THE - LAKE ­ Vera Mae McComb, 88, of Lake Road East, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at the Esther - Marie Nursing Home in Geneva.
The daughter of Andrew B. and Vera Mae (Hart) Smith, she was born Oct. 7, 1911, in Madison.
She received her bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and also earned a master's degree in social work.
She taught math teacher for 17 years in the Huron School District, and served eight years as mayor of Huron. She also served on Huron City Council and was involved in numerous civic projects.
Mrs. McComb was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, and was the church's first woman elder.
Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie Milliken of Geneva; a son, the Rev. Mr. Andrew McComb of Dixon, N.M.; five grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence M. McComb, whom she married in 1938 in Huron.
At the deceased's request, there will be no service or calling hours. A graveside service for family only will be held at their convenience. The Rev. David Aber, of First Presbyterian Church in Huron, will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park in Huron.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Huron or the Huron Shade Tree Commission. Envelopes will be available at the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, which is handling arrangements.

Ruth A. Jenzen
CONNEAUT - Edgewood Drive resident Ruth A. Jenzen, 91, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Sept. 22, 1908, in North Kingsville, she was a daughter of James O. and Gertrude (Potter) Vosseller.
The lifelong area resident was a graduate of Ashtabula High School.
She received her nurse's training at Ashtabula General Hospital. She worked as a practical nurse for 17 years at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home and was a retired employee of Brown Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was going to receive an award for perfect attendance on Sunday.
She enjoyed walking, baking, sewing and animals.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Neal of Conneaut; a son, William F. of Conneaut; six grandchildren, Christine and Catherine Jenzen, Laura Sweeney, Jane Smith, David Edwards and Tim Neal; seven great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Fred.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, 370 State St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Todd Regester officiating, assisted by the Rev. Olland Cole. A graveside service will be held in Center cemetery Friday at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
The Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, is in charge of arrangements.

Gypsie Lou Baker
MADISON - Gypsie Lou Baker, 65, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
The daughter of Sterling P. and Nola (Stacy) Warfield, she was born Jan. 5, 1935, in Hazard, Ky.
She worked as a press operator at Neff Perkins for more than 30 years, and had lived in Madison since 1952.
In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, travel, stock car racing and caring for her grandchildren.
Survivors include her mother, Nola Warfield of Painesville; daughters Dawn Thomas of Geneva, and Tracy Davis of Madison; sons Larry Baker of North Kingstown, R.I., and Leonard Baker of Brandon, Miss.; brothers Daniel and Eugene Warfield, both of Perry, Glen Warfield of Concord, and James Warfield of Painesville; nine grandchildren and one great - grandson.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Clem Hicks; and a grandson, Dillon.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison. The Rev. Arlie Spargur, of Lakeside Baptist Church, 314 Lake Road, Painesville, will officiate. Burial will be in Madison Memorial cemetery in Madison.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Franklin Harbert
PERRY - Franklin Harbert, 65, of Perry, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
The son of A. Riley and Bertha (Meyers) Harbert, he was born April 1, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas. He had lived in the Perry area since 1958.
He worked as a pressman at Ohio Rubber, retiring after 31 years.
He was a member of Harbor Lodge No. 557 F&AM, Scottish Rite, Shriners, and was a former member of the Perry AMVETS.
Survivors include his wife, the former Charlea Jackson, whom he married Aug. 11, 1962, in Painesville; son Matthew Harbert of Perry; sister Pearl Gray of Pompano Beach, Fla.; brothers William Criss of Warrensburg, Mo., Howard Criss of Perry, and Cecil, Russ and Fred Criss, all of Clarksburg, W.Va.; and one grandson.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth, Jim, Robert and Raymond Criss.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison. The Rev. William G. Alvey of the Park United Methodist Church in Madison will officiate.
Burial will be in Perry cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
