Nora C. Baker
CONNEAUT - Nora C. Baker, of Clark Street, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., following a 14 - week illness.
Born Dec. 24, 1916, in Hamot, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Estella (Stedman) Endlich.
A Conneaut resident for 59 years, she had worked for more than 50 years in the office of Rose Lumber & Building Supply. She also operated Nora's Catering for more than 45 years.
She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church.
She was a member of the 39ers Luncheon Club, the Moose and Legion auxiliaries and was a 50 - year member of Catholic Daughters of America.
She enjoyed her family, cooking and working at Rose Lumber.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Woods of Conneaut; two grandchildren; Beth Woods Drakes of Girard, Pa., and Gregory E. Woods of Conneaut; and a sister, Ethel Sayers of Erie, Pa.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 1973, numerous siblings; and special friend Frank Draves, who cared for her while he was alive.
Mass of Christian Burial is 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill St., Conneaut. The Rev. John R. Summers will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery in Greenville, Pa.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, where Catholic Daughters of America will hold a wake at 3 p.m. service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Angel Tuition Fund of St. Frances Cabrini School or to the church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Richard J. Chmielewski
ASHTABULA - Richard Jacob Chmielewski, 78, a former East 45th Street resident, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
A resident of Jefferson Geriatric Center since 1995, he was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of Jacob S. and Catharine M. (Hast) Chmielewski. He lived in Ashtabula from 1955 to 1995.
He married Sylvia C. Ransom - Bishop Dec. 1, 1941, in Wellsburg, W. Va.
Before retirement, Mr. Chmielewski was a boiler operator at Edgewood High School, Reliance Electric Co. and Diamond Shamrock Inc.
Survivors include daughters Maude Stewart of Springboro, Pa., Carolyn Chase of Albion, Pa., and Roberta C. Willis of Austinburg; sons Richard F. of Ashtabula and Jack M. of Tampa, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great - grandchildren; six great - great - grandchildren; and a brother, Elmer of Fredericksburg, Md.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, in 1997; a grandson, Chad; a great - grandson, Jonathan, in infancy; a sister, Helen and a brother, Albert.
Service is 7 p.m. Friday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Gordon Emerson of Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Committal service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at the family grave site in Conneautville, Pa., cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Contributions in memory of Mr. Chmielewski may be made to Jefferson Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center.

James Lee Davis
WINDSOR - James Lee Davis, 20, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999.
He was born Feb. 15, 1979, in Chardon, the son of Robert Lee and Grace M. Davis.
A lifelong Windsor resident, Mr. Davis enjoyed motorcycles, dirt biking, video games and wrestling.
Survivors include his mother of Windsor; four brothers, Dale A. and Randal Davis, both of Windsor, Larry Davis of Florida and Decker H. Davis of Tennessee; three sisters, Tammy Beckwith of Warren, Jody L. Davis of Rock Creek and Vicki D. Richards of Basset, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Paine Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, is handling arrangements.

Earl Leo Emery
MOULTRIE, Ga. - Earl Leo Emery, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 15, 1923, in Ashtabula, he was the son of George and Mary (Hartman) Emery.
Mr. Emery was a retired truck driver. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and spending time with his family and granchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Grace (McCumber) Emery; three daughters, Earline (Emery) Stiltner of Ashtabula, Mary Ann Downer and Andrea McCarry of Illinois; seven step - sons, John A. Juras Sr. of Ashtabula, Raymond Walker of Girard, Reid and Richard Walker, both of Conneaut; Patrick Stowe of Georgia, Robert Walker and Kevin Stowe of Florida; two sisters, Bea Catlos of Salem and Shirley Onion of Jefferson; two brothers, Ernie Emery of Conneaut and Roger Emery of Kingsville; several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roland Emery, at birth, Gordon Emery Sr. and George Emery Sr.; one sister, Alice (Emery) Onion; step - daughter Alice DeMoss; and a great - grandson, Mechael Walker.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 S. Depot Road, Ashtabula. A brief reception will be held following the service in the fellowship hall. The Rev. Joseph Platt will officiate.

Barbara Jean Feltenberger
NORTH EAST, Pa. - Barbara Jean Buie Feltenberger, 57, of New Road died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at her home. She had been ill with cancer.
Born Aug. 11, 1942, in Conneaut, she was the daughter of Mary Jones Battles. She had resided in North East for 25 years.
Mrs. Feltenberger graduated from Edinboro State College, earning a bachelor's degree in secondary education, mathematics.
A devoted teacher, she taught math classes Seneca, Harborcreek and North East high schools. She also taught at several other area schools, and belonged to Greenfield Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis, whom she married June 10, 1964; two daughters, Amy Heyer and Naomi Grove, both of North East; a son, Dennis C. of North East; her step - father, Frank Battles of Ashtabula; and two sisters, Mary Pixley and Lois Burke of Conneaut.
Service is Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake St., North East, with the Rev. David Waldo of Greenfield Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Wattsburg cemetery.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Contributions in memory of Mrs. Feltenberger may be given to Greenfield Baptist Church, 9028 Williams Road, North East, Pa. or Great Lakes Hospice, 300 State St., Erie, Pa.

George Frasure
ASHTABULA - George Frasure, 64, of West 9th Street died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Wade Park VA Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1934, in McDowell, Ky., he was the son of Earl and Edith Pearl (Howell) Frasure. He had resided in Ashtabula since 1962.
Mr. Frasure worked 36 years at Roller Reinforced Plastics Inc., retiring in 1997.
A member of Pentecostal Church of God, he enjoyed working on cars and in his garden, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Virgie (Daniels), whom he married Nov. 21, 1951; two daughters, Patricia Frasure of Ashtabula and Peggy Smegal of Pierpont; a son, Michael Frasure of Denmark Township; three grandchildren; eight brothers, Otis of Kentucky, Odre of Indiana, Earl Jr. of Jefferson and Roy, Eugene, Vern, Dana and Roger, all of Ashtabula; five sisters, Hollie B. Patton, Earlean Maples and Freda Faye Frasure, all of Ashtabula, Betty Sue Hungerford of Sheffield Township and Bonnie Stillwell of Conneaut; and his father.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pentecostal Church of God, 2201 Cook Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kenneth Roberts, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.
Contributions in memory of Mr. Frasure may be given to Pentecostal Church of God.

Jodee D. Kosch
PERRY - Jodee D. Kosch, 37, of Whistlewood Way died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident in Harpersfield Township.
She was born Sept. 16, 1961, in Painesville, the daughter of Raymond and Katherine (Palinkas) Baxter.
A lifelong Lake County resident, she worked the past two years as a cook at the Convenient Food Mart.
Ms. Kosch enjoyed being with her family and stock car racing.
Survivors include two sons, Zachariah M. and Robert J., both of Perry; her mother, of Geneva; brothers Raymond of Painesville and Kevin and Jeff of Geneva; sisters Carol Erzen of Perry, Kay Merritt of Fairport Harbor and Sandy Strong of Painesville. Two children of Ms. Kosch's fiance, Scott Pealer, who also was killed in the crash, also survive. They are Gregory and Brittany Pealer of Perry.
She was preceded in death by her father, in 1984; and a sister, Delores Lawson, in 1993.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Pole Bridge Center, 4045 S. Ridge Road, Perry. No calling hours will be observed.
Memorials may be made to the family, for care of Ms. Kosch's children, c/o Robert Kosch, 1963 Whitewood Drive, Madison.
Envelopes will be available at the Pole Bridge Center and the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, which is handling arrangements.

Rollie D. Sutton
CORTLAND - Rollie D. Sutton, 53, of Warren - Meadville Road, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at St. Joseph Health Center, Eastland, following an extended illness.
Mr. Sutton was born Jan. 8, 1946, in Warren, the son of Malry M. and Grace L. (Fisk) Sutton Sr.
He worked for the Trumbull County Highway Department and 30 years for Kraft Dairy Co. in Farmdale. He attended Johnston Federated Church and was a member of the Johnston Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Sutton also was a member of Mosse Lodge 1012 of Cortland. In his leisure time, he enjoyed restoring antique trucks.
Survivors include his wife, Delores (Lahner), whom he married Aug. 23, 1980; daughters Denise Wayner of Kinsman and Jenilee Sutton at home; step - daughter Jennette Double of Cortland; son Dennis of Brookfield; sister Lynn Grover of Paw Paw, Mich.; brothers Richard and Malry Jr., of Kinsman and Thomas of Brookfield.; and six grandchildren.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 8569 Main St., Kinsman. Interment will be in Johnston cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Johnston Federated Church or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Frank M. Varat
MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP - Frank M. Varat, 73, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital.
Born July 24, 1926, in Cleveland, he was the son of Stanley and Elizabeth Varat. He moved to the Middlefield area at age 1, and lived there all his life.
Mr. Varat wed Alverta Dryer April 15, 1950, in Parkman.
He was employed as a roofer for the Leon Robbins Roofing Co. in Cleveland for 34 years, retiring in 1988. A Navy veteran, he served in the Asiatic - Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was a member of St. Lucy's Catholic Church in Middlefield, a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 2261 of Chardon, and a member of Roofers and Waterproofers Local 44.
His hobbies included fishing and boating.
Survivors include his wife; daughters Pat Rulong of Middlefield and Pam Moody of Rome; three grandchildren; one great - grandson; and sisters Anna Heffner of Lakewood and Mary Takac of San Antonio, Texas.
Mr. Varat was preceded in death by his parents and his step - father, George Berkich; a brother, John; and a sister, Pauline Valvoda.
Service is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Lucy's Catholic Church, 16280 Kinsman Road, Middlefield, with the Rev. Harry S. Winca presiding. Burial will be Middlefield cemetery.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield.

Mahala Williams
NORTH KINGSVILLE - Parkview Avenue resident Mahala Williams, 92, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at her home.
She was born Oct. 20, 1906, in South Webster, the daughter of John and Mary Ann (Styles) Slack.
She lived in North Kingsville for 45 years and retired from Ashtabula Leathercraft in 1960.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Church of the Living God, Ashtabula. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting and spending time with family.
Survivors include a son, Harry of Florida; two daughters, Maxine Morris of North Kingsville and Jean Smith of Florida; a sister, Mildred Belcher of Wheelersburg; 20 grandchildren; and several great - and great - great - grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Evert; two sons, Elger and Ford; a daughter, Irene Tackett; two brothers, Bill and Harry Slack; and four sisters, Harrette Stevens, Minnie Veach, May Cook and Martha Beesler.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday at Burton Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Robert Falke of the Church of the Living God officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jason A. `Tack' Yox
HUNTSBURG TOWNSHIP - Jason "Tack" A. Yox, 20, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident.
A lifelong area resident, he was born Sept. 13, 1978, in Chardon, the son of Chip and Lana (Balasz) Yox.
He graduated from Cardinal High School in 1998.
Mr. Yox worked at S&H Pallets, Middlefield. He loved outdoor activities, playing with his dog, camping and being with his family.
Survivors include his parents; brothers Jeremy and Colt, at home; sisters Ayme Martin of Middlefield and Jessica at home; maternal grandfather Chester Balasz of Libson; paternal grandparents Everett and Mae McMillin of Middlefield; and a special friend, Mary Koch.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandmother Allana Balasz.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday at Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, with the Rev. Harry S. Winca of St. Lucy's Catholic Church of Middlefield officiating. Burial will be in Middlefield cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Matthew W. Ambrose
KINSMAN - Matthew W. Ambrose, the 11 - month - old son of William G. and Cindy M. (Vilagi) Ambrose, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at UPMC - Horizon Hospital, in Greenville.
Matthew was born Dec. 4, 1998 in Youngstown.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Billy E.; three sisters, Heather M., Alissa M. Vilagi, and Makenzie L. of Warren; and paternal grandparents, Harold and Mary Lee Weese.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Esther McFarland.
Services is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, with the Rev. Kenneth Kubichek of the Kinsman United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Kinsman cemetery.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Akron Children's Hospital, One Perkins Square, Akron 44308.

Philomena M. Contino
CONNEAUT - Philomena M. Contino, 85, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at her home following an illness involving cancer.
She was born Feb. 8, 1914, in Conneaut, the daughter of Jess and Mary (Ruberto) Chicatelli.
She was a graduate of Conneaut High School, class of 1933 and later met and married Pasquale "Pat" Contino on Sept. 5, 1935, at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Conneaut.
She was a lifelong resident of Conneaut and active in her parish. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Cara Mia Club.
She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Anthony of Circleville and Jesse of St. Louis, Mi.; a daughter, Ann Marie Livingston of Macedonia; 14 grandchildren and 9 great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter Leeta Contino DiNardo in 1958; three sisters, Lena Prisco, Agnes Ross and Florence Bucci; three brothers, Nicholas, William, and Jake Chicatelli.
Mass of the Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, Conneaut with the Rev. John Summers officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Conneaut.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

Patricia J. Garling
BURTON - Patricia Josephine Garling, 72, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999 at Chardon Quality Care.
Mrs. Garling was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Cleveland, the daughter of John E. and Julia (Kanesky) Donnelly. She had lived in Burton for 25 years.
She worked as a sales clerk in the men's department at JCPennys. She enjoyed crafts, especially sewing and quilting.
She was a member of St. Lucy's Catholic Church, Middlefield, of the Troy Ladies Club, of the 55 Plus Club of Parkman, and of the St. Edward's Quilting Bee.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; a daughter, Catherine Gerson; four sons, James, Robert, Mike, and William; and three grandchildren, Brian, Eric, and Katie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Thomas Donnelly.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lucy's Catholic Church, 16280 Kinsman Road, Middlefield. Burial will be in All Souls cemetery, Chardon.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Russell Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield.
