Angelo L. Engro
ERIE, Pa. - State Street resident Angelo L. Engro, 72, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, Pa.
Born July 12, 1927, in Rimersburg, Pa., he was a son of Anthony and Centina (Rizzo) Engro.
He was a graduate of Rimersburg's Union Joint High School.
In 1947, he moved to Erie and worked for Erie's General Electric. In 1964, he opened Angelo's, a wholesale beauty supply and equipment distributorship that services the tri - state area. He remained active in the business until his death.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Engro was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral, where he served as a lector and usher.
He was an avid supporter of many community organizations, including the Maria House Project and the City Mission. He was a member of the United Way of Erie County's Alexis de Tocqueville Society.
Because of his love of jazz, he became involved with WQLN radio and was a sponsor of the Joey Digiorgio jazz program. He also enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include his wife, Joan (Timon); five daughters, Kathleen, Denise Swabb, Deborah Swabb and Angela Fatica, all of Erie, Pa. and Karen of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sons, Anthony L. of Erie, Pa. and Stephen of New Orleans; 14 grandchildren; four brothers, Nicholas of Mission, Texas, Michael of Los Angeles, Joseph of Las Vegas and James of Rimersburg, Pa.; and two sisters, Teresa McMaster of Rimersburg, Pa. and Angeline Hoghoughie of Butler, Pa.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Maria Swabb; a brother, Charles; and a sister, Florence.
Prayer services are 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Liberty streets, Erie. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Cathedral, 160 W. 11th St., Erie. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

WINDSOR TOWNSHIP - Former Geneva resident Mary H. Ritchey, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at the Grand Valley Country Manor in Windsor Township.

Thomas L. Bort
CONNEAUT - Thomas L. Bort, 53, of East Main Road, Conneaut, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Bort was born June 6, 1946, in Toledo, the son of Donald H. Bort and Mae (Bailey) Kiedel, and lived in the Conneaut area most of his life.
A self - employed general contractor, he also served with the Marines in Vietnam, attaining the rank of sergeant. He earned a number of medals, including the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (with three stars), the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the President Unit Citation, the Good Conduct Medal, the Rifle Expert badge and Navy unit commendations.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4965, Loyal Order of Moose No. 472, and Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1463.
Survivors include his mother, of Kingsville; wife Adeline, whom he married
14 years ago; three daughters, Theresa of Conneaut, Stacey of Florida and Tina of Texas; four sons, Ricky and Tim, both of Texas, John of Andover and Ray of Conneaut; three sisters, Chris Gleeson of Matford, Ore., and Jackie Lewis and Delores Lute, both of Geneva; four brothers, Terry of Ashtabula, Teddy of Texas, Warren of East Springfield, Pa., and Garfield Parsons of Conneaut; and 17 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Timothy Bort and James Parsons.
Service is 1 p.m. Friday at the Thompson - Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut. The Rev. Kenneth Roberts, pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God, will officiate.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Raymond R. Carlson
ASHTABULA - Austinburg Road resident Raymond R. Carlson, 87, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, the Austinburg Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born April 17, 1912, in Ashtabula, he was the son of Louie and Nancy (Lindberg) Carlson and was a lifelong area resident.
He graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1930 and attended Ohio Northern University, where he received a degree in pharmacology in 1941.
Before going to college, Mr. Carlson worked at the Tannery, sailed on the Great Lakes and drove a truck for Truesdell Trucking.
After receiving his degree, he worked for Scheffner Drug Store in Ashtabula until 1942.
A Marine veteran, he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
After the war, he co - managed Marshalls Drug Store on Main Avenue, and he later managed the Revco store in Ashtabula for 17 years. After retiring, he did relief work in the pharmacy department at Nichols Store and at Hoffman's Pharmacy in Ashtabula.
His hobbies included gardening and stock investing, and he also loved animals.
Survivors include his daughter, Dee Carlson of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice, in 1998; two sisters, Florence Gray and Helen Mayer; and a brother, Clarence Carlson.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ridgeview cemetery, Austinburg Road, Ashtabula. The Rev. Kevin Horrigan of Prospect Presbyterian Church will be officiate.
No calling hours will be observed.

ASHTABULA - Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Church, 3330 Lake Ave., for Dina DeCola, 94, who died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999.

Elsie M. Fuller
GREENVILLE, Pa. - Elsie M. Fuller, 88, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at UPMC - Horizon Hospital in Greenville.
She was born Aug. 14, 1911, in New Lyme Township, the daughter of Stanley and Daisy (Keech) George. She was a homemaker.
A lifetime area resident, she was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, 55 & Over Club and Williamsfield Card Club.
She enjoyed playing cards and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene M. Tabor of Williamsfield and Marjorie B. Sherman of Andover; 12 grandchildren; 26 great - children and two great - great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darwin R. in 1930; son Richard D.; grandson Richard D. Jr.; three sisters, Gladys Bartlett, Erma Ahoda and Hazel Pugsley; and two brothers, Judd and Paul George.
Calling hours are at 11 a.m. and services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday at Baumgarder Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover.

Dorothy E. Shaffer
TUCSON, Ariz. - Dorothy E. Shaffer, 92, of Tucson, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 8, 1999, at the El Dorado Hospital in Tucson.
Mrs. Shaffer was born May 26, 1907, in East Springfield, Pa., the daughter of George B. and Carrie E. (Gray) Auerbach.
She married
Claude H. Shaffer on May 26, 1928.
Mrs. Shaffer retired after 25 years of service as a school nurse in the Northwestern School District. In her younger years, she was a member of the Albion Garden Club, a past matron of the Albion Eastern Star Chapter No. 22, and a member of the Springfield Women's Club.
She also belonged to the Association of Erie County School Nurses, and the West Springfield United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Ruth Circle.
She was a member of the Catalina United Methodist Church in Arizona, and for 28 years she volunteered time at the University Medical Center.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and traveling. She spent her summers with her son Allan in East Springfield, and she was well - known for her beautiful knitting.
In addition to her son, she is survived by two daughters, Shirley J. Rickard of Albion, Pa., and Melissa L. Miles of Tucson; six grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Nov. 26, 1972; two sisters, Emma Teudhope and Ethel Johnson; and two brothers, Albert and William Auerbach.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main St., East Springfield, Pa. The Rev. Robert Klinger, pastor of the West Springfield United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Springfield cemetery in East Springfield.

Dale G. Thompson
GENEVA - Funeral for Dale G. Thompson, 74, will be 1 p.m. Friday at The United Church of Geneva, 75 S. Broadway, with the Rev. Dan O'Connor officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Hallie E. Truax Jr.
YOUNGSTOWN - Former Conneaut resident Hallie E. Truax Jr., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.
He was born Dec. 31, 1932, in Conneaut, the son of Hallie E. Sr. and Grace Schramm Truax.
He was a graduate of Rowe High School, attended Miami University, received his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University, and his master's degree from Westminster College. He moved to Youngstown in 1950s and taught at Devon Elementary School in Warren for 33 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Western Reserve United Methodist Church, where he had been a Sunday School teacher, a Boy Scout leader and an assistant coach in the Boardman Little League program.
Survivors include his wife, the former JoAnn Marie Serensky, whom he married
Aug. 21, 1965; a son, Gerry D. of Willoughby; two daugthers, Shirely Neher of Poland and Susan Klacik of Canfield; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church.
Mary R. Beers
CONNEAUT - Mary R. Smith Beers, 82, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Inn - Conneaut Health Center, where she had been a resident for the past five years.
Born April 8, 1917, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of James and Sarah (Geis) Patton.
She was a Conneaut resident since 1978, living with her daughter along Woodland Avenue.
She was employed by Duquesne Printing and Bankers Litho Co. as a press operator until her retirement in 1978. During World War II, she had worked in a plant making machine - gun cradles.
Smith Beers was a member of St. Mary's Church in Conneaut.
She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Jarvi of Conneaut; a son, Richard McKenzie, of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren; two sisters: Gertrude Buchanan, of Willowick, and Anna Mae Sillanpaa, of Conneaut; and a brother, Jack Patton, of Pittsburgh.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Smith; her second husband, Paul Beers; a sister, Colletta McGrail; and two brothers: James and Richard Patton.
Funeral is 5 p.m. Sunday at the Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas, pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Jefferson Memorial Park in Pittsburgh.
Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Donald R. Graves
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Donald R. Graves, 69, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at a hospital in the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., area.
He was born June 18, 1930, in Rock Creek.
He attended school and graduated from the Rock Creek school system in 1948. After graduation, he helped on the family farm and drove trucks for General Mills. He joined the Air Force in 1950 and served two years in Alaska.
He moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1957. He retired from the post office in Fort Lauderdale as a tour superintendent in 1986.
Graves served two years as the Florida president for the National Association of Postal Supervisors, two years as the district vice president and three years as the Fort Lauderdale - branch president.
He was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory, the Mahi Shrine and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1966. He was a former commander of the William A. Holland American Legion Post 86.
He was a member of the North Fort Lauderdale Elks Lodge 2407. He served the state association as district chairman of new lodges, interlodge visitation from 1988 to 1989, district vice president from 1990 to 1991 and district deputy grand exalted ruler from 1991 to 1992.
Survivors include his wife, June; a daughter, Nancy Salkin; a granddaughter, Krystal Salkin; two brothers: Edwin and William Graves; and a sister, Cleo Callahan.
Funeral is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Jennings Funeral Home, 1801 East Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Burial will be in Lauderdale Memorial Park.

Alice C. Kral
PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Alice C. Kral, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at her home in Pinellas Park, Fla.
Born Sept. 25, 1908, in Lilly Coal, Pa., she was a daughter of Charles and Caroline (Olszewski) Stafanick.
She moved from Cleveland to Munson Township in 1941 and lived there until 1969. She lived in Chardon until she moved to Florida one - and - a - half years ago.
She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinellas Park and was a former member of St. Mary's Church in Chardon.
She enjoyed music, gardening and crocheting.
Survivors include three daughters: Rosemarie Hall, of Chardon, Jody George, of Burton, and Carolyn Antonio, of Pinellas Park; two brothers: Stanley Darrow, of Daytona, Fla., and Leonard Mintus, of Chesterland; two sisters: Rose Bagshaw, of Madison, and Kay Cline, of Parma; 10 grandchildren; 23 great - grandchildren; and 17 great - great - grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970; a granddaughter, Laurie Butt; five brothers: Joseph and Charles Stafanick, Burt and Tommy Mintus and Jack Darrow; and two sisters: Ann Kozak and Helen Mintus.
Funeral is set for 10 a.m. Monday at the Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon, with the Rev. Thomas C. Gilles, pastor of St. Mary's Church in Chardon, officiating. Burial will be in All Souls cemetery in Chardon.

Grace I. Motil
HUNTSBURG - Grace I. Motil, 69, Mayfield Road, Huntsburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at her home.
The daughter of William A. and Hazel (Chubb) Donaldson, she was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Middlefield. She was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1947 graduate of Middlefield High School and attended Kent State University for one year.
She married
Nicholas G. Motil Nov. 22, 1951, in Middlefield.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crafts and gardening.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Jonath, of Huntsburg; one son, William, of Huntsburg; two grandchildren: Brenda and Robert Jonath; two brothers: Paul, of Mesopotamia, and Lee, of Williamsfield; and two sisters: May Raymond, of Kinsman, and Rose Donaldson, of Batavia, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Private services will be held at the request of the deceased.

Francis A. Rader
MUNSON TOWNSHIP - Francis A. Rader, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Heather Hill Hospital Health and Care Center.
Born April 22, 1920, in Reading, Pa., he was a son of Russell P. and Mary R. (Neider) Fitrer.
He married
Georgia E. Thompson in 1943 in Gladehill, Va.
He had lived in Geneva for six years.
Rader worked as a baker and was a Navy veteran, having served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a life member of the Geneva Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6846 and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include two daughters: Freda D. Kline, of Reading, Pa., and Kathy L. Rodriguez, of Trenton, N.J.; two sons: Michael, of Roanoke, Va., and Russell, of Madison; eight grandchildren; and eight great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1964.
Memorial service and burial will be at the Forrest Hills Memorial Park in Reading.
