H. Lorena Porter
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Former Conneaut resident H. Lorena Porter, 82, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Scottsdale Village Square Nursing Home. She had been a patient there the past two years.
The daughter of Ralph H. Pratt and Harriet (Mitchell) Pratt Marshall, she was born April 26, 1917, in East Springfield, Pa.
She attended Kent State University and taught school in the Pierpont, Lakeville and Conneaut school districts. She spent many years in classrooms at Lakeview and Amboy elementary schools.
She attended the United Church of Christ, and was a member of the Mothers Club. She moved to Brooksville, Fla., eight years ago.
Her hobbies included fishing, traveling, gardening, bird watching and yard work.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond R. Porter, whom she married
Dec. 14, 1940, in East Springfield, Pa.; two children, Elizabeth J. Buchler of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and William R. Porter of East Springfield; a brother, Roy B. Pratt Sr. of Conneaut; six grandchildren, Scott, Kimberly and Russell Porter, Melissa Bryan, Michael Theiss and Joey Pouliot; and four great - grandchildren.
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Walter Coy of the United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Conneaut Glenwood cemetery.
Calling hour is 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

William F. Proctor
ASHTABULA - William F. Proctor, 80, of Arlington Avenue, Ashtabula, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at his home.
He was born April 18, 1919, in Ashtabula, the son of Thomas and Ethel (Francis) Proctor.
He worked for the Cleveland Illuminating Company for 32 years, retiring as plant - watch engineer. He served in the U.S. Army's 15th Infantry regiment, serving in the southern French and Germany campaigns. He was wounded in battle in Germany, and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
He was an Ashtabula jury commissioner for many years, and a long - time member of the Republican party and precinct committee person when he lived in Ward 4 - F.
He was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Ashtabula for more than 55 years, and held many positions, including board of trustees president and First Reader. He was also a member of The Mother Church, and the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Mass., for many years.
He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, taking care of birds and wildlife, his family and helping others.
Survivors include a son, William T., of South Carolina; two daughters: Colleen Proctor Hallgren, of Ashtabula, and Kathleen Proctor Baldwin, of Georgia; a brother, Norman, of Ashtabula; two sisters: Nancy Proctor, of Ashtabula, and Auta Halman, of Kingsville; his ex - wife, Josephine Mearini, of Ashtabula, with whom he remained the best of friends; nine grandchildren 14 great - grandchildren and one great - great - grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, the former Marjory (Radabaugh), Dec. 12, 1969; five brothers: Larry, Tom, Cecil, Wilbur and Birdsey; and two sisters: Kathryn Wilkinson and Margie Taylor.
Service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ross - Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Reader Donley Johnson, of Columbus, will officiate. Burial will be at Ridgeview cemetery.
Calling hour at the funeral home is noon Saturday until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holden Arboretum in Lake County or a favorite charity.
Rosalee Gifford
JEFFERSON Rosalee Gifford, 79, South Chestnut Street, Jefferson, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas, after complications of heart surgery. She was at her winter home in LaFeria, Texas, where she spent the last 19 winters.
She was born Nov. 26, 1920, in Parke County, Indiana, the daughter of Chester and Jessie (Patterson) Craycraft, and had been a Jefferson resident since 1963, moving to the area from Lordstown.
She was married
to Howard E. Gifford June 12, 1941, in West Layfatette, IN.
She was a graduate of Purdue University and Youngstown State University. She taught many years in the Niles school system and was fifth grade teacher in the Jefferson Area Local school system, prior to her retirement.
Gifford was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jefferson, served many years on the Henderson Memorial Library Board, and enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing and knitting.
Survivors include two children: Melode S. Reinker, of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Howard R. Gifford, of Jefferson; two sisters: Maryola Habison, of Knox, IN, and Eleanor Smith, of Rockville, IN; five grandchildren: David B., Elizabeth M. Winters, Matthew S. Reinker, Daniel S. Reinker and Lisa N. Reinker; and three great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1996; and a brother, Robert Craycraft, in childhood.
Service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 41 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson. The Rev. David T. Hill will officiate. Burial will be in Oakdale cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., a Family Care Group affiliate, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.

William J. Ramsey
MADISON - William J. Ramsey, 74, of Madison, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at University Hospital in Cleveland.
He was born July 23, 1925, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of the Rev. Leonard and Lillian Ramsey.
A 47 - year Madison resident, he was manager of the Ashtabula branch of the Ohio Bureau of Employment, retiring in 1987 after 20 years of service.
He was a 1943 graduate of Harvey High School, and graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1950. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 1286 in Lakeland, N.Y., and the Public Employees Retirement System.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Knight, of Madison; two brothers: Richard and Roger Ramsey, of Painesville; five grandchildren: Kendra, Aaron, Ryan, Brynn and Ross Knight, all of Madison; and two great - grandchildren: Zachary and Ashley Knight, of Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the former Betty Stark.
A private funeral service will be held. No calling hours are scheduled.
Burial will be in Madison Memorial cemetery, Arcola Road, Madison.

Mary J. Riffle
GIBSONTON, Fla. - Mary Jane Riffle, 87, of Gibsonton, Fla., died Tuesday morning, Feb. 8, 2000, at South Bay Hospital in Sun City, Fla.
She was born Oct. 12, 1912, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (Mann) White, and had been an Ashtabula resident for most of her life before moving to Florida.
A homemaker, she was a former member of the Prospect Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula.
She enjoyed quilting, knitting, playing the organ and attending the Kent State summer concert series while vacationing in Ashtabula.
Survivors include her husband, Frank, whom she married
April 3, 1958, in Ashtabula; three sons: Stephen Welton, of La Habra, Calif., Larry Riffle, of Gibsonton, and Thomas Rogers, of Geneva; a brother, Harry White, of Ajo, Ariz.; eight grandchildren: James and Thomas Rogers, of Geneva, Billy Stevenson, Norma Horner, Marybeth Sines, Stephen and David Welton and Angela Cramer; and 11 great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Cecil G. Welton; a daughter, Linda L. Stevenson, in 1997; and a sister, Muriel Sample.
Service is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the Childs - Williams Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 1440 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. The Rev. Kevin Horrigan, of Prospect Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

Charles Sanitate
FARRELL, Pa. - Charles Sanitate, 85, of Farrell, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Horizon Hospital System in Farrell.
The son of Anthony and Mary (DeMichael) Sanitate, he was born Oct. 29, 1914, in Wilmerding, Pa.
He attended Farrell schools and worked as yard master at Sharon Steel Corp. in Sharon, Pa., for 38 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Hermitage, Pa.; former secretary, treasurer, teacher and board member at the church; and enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Christine (Martino) Sanitate, whom he married
Aug. 7, 1939; one son, Charles Sanitate Jr., of West Middlesex, Pa.; one daughter, Marlene Collins, of Andover; five brothers: Paul Sanitate, of Sharpsville, Pa., Michael Sanitate, of Farrell, James Sanitate, of Wheatland, Pa., Matthew Sanitate, of Hermitage, Pa., and Peter Sanitate of Wheatland, Pa.; three sisters: Loretta Longiotti, of Ashland, Ore., Mary Gerba, of Brookfield, and Vardina McKeowan, of Wheaton, Md.; four grandchildren; and one great - grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at First Assembly of God in Hermitage, with the Rev. Ken Martin officiating.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage.

Marilyn A. Gray
KINSMAN - Marilyn A. Gray, 80, of Main Street in Kinsman, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren after a five - week illness.
The daughter of William R. and Marie E. (Currie) Saulter, she was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Rock Creek.
She worked as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Kinsman for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Kinsman United Methodist Church, Kinsman Chapter Order of Eastern Star and lived in the area most of her life.
She married
George G. Gray Nov. 16, 1946.
Survivors include one son, Harold W. Berry, of Farmdale; four sisters: Virginia O'Hara, of Painesville, Georgia Clemson, of Rock Creek, Helen Brown, of Cortland, and Muriel Myers, of Kinsman; longtime companion Ray Pierce, of Brookfield; one granddaughter; and one great - grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jan. 20, 1989.
Grave - side service is scheduled at noon Friday in Kinsman cemetery.
No calling hours will be observed.

Blanche W. Haffa
OCALA, Fla. - Blanche W. Haffa, 86, of Ocala, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at her home.
Born in Geneva, she moved to the Ocala area four years ago, formerly living in Ohio and New Jersey. A homemaker, she was a Methodist by faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sines, of Ocala, Fla.; two sons: Earl Haffa, of Geneva, and Richard Haffa, of Fredericksburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great - grandchildren; and two great - great - grandchildren.
There are no service or calling hours announced.

Virginia C. Stafford
EAST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - Virginia "Ginny" C. (Payne) Stafford, 82, of East Springfield, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie.
The daughter of Frank and Alice (Mathey) Payne, she was born Oct. 28, 1917, in Cannonsburg, Pa.
She worked as a cafeteria cook at East Springfield Elementary School and also at Peggy Gray's Candy Store in North Springfield, Pa., where she enjoyed dipping chocolates for customers. She worked as a nurse's aide for 10 years at the Pleasant Ridge Manor.
She attended the Federated Church in East Springfield, Pa., for more than 40 years and helped found the Golden Circle of the church. She also was a member of the West Springfield Golden Agers of the Baptist Church and Love, Inc. Group of Churches.
She was involved in the Federated Church building fund for the youth center of East Springfield and was on the church prayer chain. She wrote many Christian poems and belonged to Springfield Service Circle for more than 30 years.
She enjoyed doing things for her family and showed support for her children by being their 4 - H adviser and Scout leader.
Survivors include one son, Dave Stafford, of East Springfield; one daughter, Ruth Harvey, of Springboro, Pa.; one brother, Richard Payne, of Mentor; 10 grandchildren; and several great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Aug. 7, 1994, William A. Stafford, whom she married
Oct. 28, 1940; two sons: John Charles and William Howard Stafford; a sister, Alice Schultz; two brothers: Frank and Howard Payne; and one grandson, Frank Akre.
Service is set for 11 a.m. Monday at the Federated Church, located along Main Street in East Springfield, with pastors Marvin Davis and Ed Huntley officiating.
Burial will follow at Springfield cemetery in East Springfield.

Agnes E. Johnson
MADISON - Agnes E. Johnson, 94, formerly of West 6th Street in Ashtabula, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Madison Health Care Center.
The daughter of John and Frederika (Carlberg) Larson, she was born Nov. 11, 1905, in North Kingsville and lived her entire life in the Ashtabula area.
She graduated from Ashtabula High School and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially canasta and bridge. She also loved to entertain family and friends in her home.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" M. St. John, of Geneva - on - the - Lake; two sons: Milton R., of Playa del Ray, Calif., and David Lee, of Huntington, N.Y.; five grandchildren; six great - grandchildren; and a sister, Freda Forringer of Stow.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Walter Johnson, in 1979; two brothers: Carl and Theodore; and three sisters: Ruth Noel, Emma Peterson and Ellen Larson.
Service is set for 10 a.m. Friday at the Askew - Brink - Ducro Harbor Funeral Home, 1709 W. 11th St., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Anthony Dusso, of Faith Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Jack J. Pethtel II
MADISON - Jack J. Pethtel II, 45, of Madison, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at the Lake West Hospital in Willoughby.
He was born Dec. 30, 1954, in Painesville, the son of Jack J. and Elisabeth (Riesz) Pethtel.
He was a 1974 graduate of Madison High School, where he played football. He also attended Bowling Green State University.
Survivors include two sisters: Peggy Wickert and Connie Sears, both of Madison; and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family services were held Wednesday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison. The Rev. Jay Schmidt, of Central Congregational Church in Madison, officiated. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery in Madison.

Genevieve L. Izzo
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Genevieve L. Izzo, 82, of Boca Raton, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
A former North Kingsville resident, she received a teaching degree from Flora Stone Mather College, an affiliate of Case Western Reserve University.
Survivors include four sons: Bob, Tom, Jim and Ken; a daughter, Rosanne; a sister, Marie Lanese, of Boca Raton; 12 grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmen, to whom she had been married
52 years.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at the St. Joseph cemetery in North Kingsville.

Laurence N. Meighen
ROCK CREEK Laurence N. Meighen, 79, of Rock Creek, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at his home.
He was born Dec. 26, 1920, in Senecaville, the son of Elmer and Hazel (Fredericks) Meighen.
A sheet - metal worker, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II with the 151st Armoured Signal Co. of the 11th Armoured Division in the Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe.
He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 719 in Orwell, charter member and past commander of VFW Post 4953 in Rock Creek and past commander of Ashtabula County American Legion Council. He was also a past district commissioner of the Pyma - Grand NEO Council of Boy Scouts of America.
He enjoyed fishing, tin work, collecting antique tools and glassware and World War II history.
Survivors include his wife, the former Loralee Bing, whom he married
Feb. 14, 1947, in Cleveland Heights; three sons: Laurence J. Meighen, of Dorset, Gary N. Meighen, of Rock Creek, and Richard F. Meighen, of Everett, Wash.; two daughters: Deborah Hazzard, of San Pedro, Calif., and Penelope J. Diamond, of St. Augustine, Fla.; a brother, Frederick E. Meighen, of Byesville; 14 grandchildren and 12 great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two great - grandchildren.
In keeping with Meighen's wishes, he will be cremated with a memorial service held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Paine Funeral Home, 3119 W. Water St., Rock Creek. The Rev. Keith Peachey, Rock Creek United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Calling hour at the funeral home is 12:30 p.m. Sunday until the time of service. Burial will be in Senecaville at a later date.
