Bernard C. `Barney' McPaul
ANDOVER - Bernard C. "Barney" McPaul, 74, 420 E. Main St., died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at the St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.
McPaul was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Butler, Pa., the son of Joseph and Vernonia (Ritzert) McPaul.
He married
the former Patricia A. (Phillips) on April 26, 1947.
He was a lifetime area resident, and worked 38 years with Ohio Edison, Kinsman District, first as a lineman and later as a foreman. He retired in 1985.
Mr. McPaul was an honorary member of the Andover Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Percy D. Hyatt Post 226 American Legion in Andover, a former member of the Lions Club, and a member of the National Rifle Association.
He served with the Marines during World War II. As corporal, he participated in the invasion of Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima.
Mr. McPaul was a frequent blood donor and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He especially enjoyed his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Deborah L. Connors of Youngstown, and Rebecca A. Dolan of Cortland; one son, Sid W. of Williamsfield Township; one sister, Erma M. Miller of Butler; one brother, Richard J. of West Sunbury, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and two great - granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a grandson, Craig J. Copenhaver.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affilliate, 134 Prospect St., Andover. The Rev. Robert Gears will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Andover.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

John Reid
PAINESVILLE - John Reid, 73, of Painesville and Perry, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Lake East Hospital in Painesville.
Mr. Reid was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Sand Run, W.Va., the son of Porter and Elizabeth (Zinn) Reid.
He retired from the Diamond Shamrock Coke Plant in 1976 after many years of service, and also worked as a barber at the Harvey Barber Shop in Fairport Harbor. He also did in - home barbering for homebound people, and was a member of the Painesville Township Fire Department.
He served with the Navy during World War II, and was a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7754 in Fairport Harbor, Eagles Aerie No. 2278 in Painesville; and the Salvation Army, where he was honored as Man of the Year in 1998.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, music and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife, the former Martha Ann McCauley, whom he married
July 9, 1977; two sons, John W. Reid of Perry and James Reid of Madison; four daughters, Sheila McGonnell of Perry, Sherry Staley of Rock Creek, Linda Hyde of Geneva and Patty Krauss of Madison; two stepsons, Charles Bunner of Asheville, N.C., and George Bunner of Mentor; two stepdaughters, Jeanne Sweat of Willoughby, and Linda Bednarski of Garfield Heights; a brother, Christy O'Dell of Buckhannon, W.Va.; two sisters, Ada Kovach and Matilda Dowdy, both of Kennesaw, Ga.; 15 grandchildren, six step - grandchildren, four great - grandchildren and one step - great - grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, the Rev. Calvin Reid and Floyd Reid; three sisters, Goldie May Reese, Violo Shipman and Christine Fisher; and one grandchild.
Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Spear - Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville. Burial will be in Perry cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Edith R. Oberweiser
MADISON - Edith R. Oberweiser, 89, of Madison, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Lake East Hospital in Painesville.
She was born Aug. 2, 1910, in Delphos, and lived in Conneaut and Wooster until moving to Madison four years ago.
She was a nurse at the Wayne County Home for 13 years. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, and also taught first aid and other Red Cross life - saving techniques.
Survivors include her son, Douglas Oberweiser of Coshocton; a daughter, Elaine Notte of Thompson; five grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert E.; a brother, Ellwood Ashbaugh; and a grandson, Jeffery Notte.
Service is 1 p.m. Monday at the Potti Funeral Home, 2726 Hubbard Road, Madison. Burial will be in Wooster cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home are 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday and noon to 1 p.m. Monday.

Carol Jean Supina
ASHTABULA - Carol Jean Supina, 52, of West Avenue, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Ashtabula County Medical Center. She battled multiple sclerosis the past 25 years.
The daughter of Willard and Lena (Poling) Stewart, she was born Nov. 7, 1947, in Austinburg.
A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Geneva High School.
Mrs. Supina was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She enjoyed having the Bible read to her.
Survivors include her husband, Donald, whom she married
Dec. 24, 1969; a son, Andrew Michael of Ashtabula; a daughter, Annette Jolene Supina of Painesville; three grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey Stewart of Chardon and Terry Stewart of Vienna, W.Va., and her parents of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Don Stewart.
Service is 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, East Congregation, 5614 Poplar St., Ashtabula, with John Urban officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

John H. Rutherford
CONNEAUT - John H. Rutherford, 85, of Mill Street, died Monday evening, Feb. 7, 2000, at the Inn - Conneaut Health Center, where he had been a patient for a short time.
The son of John and Sally (Miller) Rutherford, he was born Nov. 9, 1914, in Somerset, Ky.
A Conneaut resident since 1948, he was employed as a hand molder at Tele - Dyne in Edinboro, Pa., retiring in 1979. He was a private pilot and flew small airplanes out of the Erie Airport.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, socializing, bowling and his dogs and cats.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Burlingham of Conneaut; four sons, Richard Renn of Conneaut, John M. and Charles J. Rutherford, both of Conneaut, and Wayne S. Rutherford of Kingman, Ariz.; a brother, Jesse Rutherford of Conneaut; 12 grandchildren; and eight great - grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Richard; and five sisters, Margaret, Verna, Hazel, Lucy and Anna.
Service is 10 a.m. Friday at the Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. The Rev. Walter Coy, pastor of United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in East Springfield cemetery, East Springfield, Pa.

Sean Tyler Ward
MADISON - Sean Tyler Ward, infant son of Charles and Wendy Ward, was stillborn Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
In addition to his parents, of Madison, he is survived by a sister, Bryttne, at home; maternal grandparents Billy and Irene Clements of Marion, Texas, and Barbara Kline of Georgetown, Texas; paternal grandparents Vance and Joan Roberts of Atwater and William and Sharon Ward of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and great - grandparents Harold and Clara Henze of San Antonio, Texas, Milton and Fleta Slavik of Victoria, Texas, and Clarabelle Fletcher and Jane Ward, both of Florence, Ky.
Funeral is 4 p.m. Thursday, at the Behm Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison, with Pastor Rick Boyd of the First Christian Church of Alliance officiating. Burial will be in Atwater Township cemetery, Atwater.

Mary Ann Davis
PAINESVILLE - Mary Ann Davis, 64, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Cleveland Hospice House.
The daughter of Louis and Elizabeth Kish, she was born May 9, 1935, in Painesville, where she lived most of her life.
She was employed as an operator by the Ohio Bell in Painesville. She also worked at Islay's, Painesville.
She was a member of St. Mary Church in Painesville and was active with the Lake County Humane Society.
Survivors include a son, Dean of Madison; a daughter, Michelle Davis of Painesville; a granddaughter, Lauren Davis of Madison; her companion, Gordon Poling of Painesville; three brothers, Joseph and Robert Kish of Painesville and James Kish of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister, Ann Minenna of Painesville.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Bernay; and a granddaughter, Erin Marie Davis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Church, 242 N. State St., Painesville. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery.

Mildred M. Scovil
SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP - Mildred M. Scovil, 98, of Center Road died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at the Carrington Park Nursing Home.
The daughter of Frederick and Lillian (Harvey) Scovil, she was born Nov. 26, 1901, in Saybrook Township.
A lifelong area resident, Miss Scovil graduated from Ashtabula High School.
She worked at the Basket Factory in Saybrook. Later, she studied hairdressing and opened her own shop. She also ran the business from her home for a time.
An avid photographer, she and her family traveled much of the United States, often living in tents.
She was a member of Saybrook United Methodist Church for more than 80 years, and was one - time treasurer of the church's Wesleyan Guild.
Several cousins survive.
Miss Scovil was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ernest.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Friday at the Ross - Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Joseph Platt of Saybrook United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Township cemetery.
Calling hour is 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Agnes E. Johnson
MADISON - Agnes E. Johnson, 94, formerly of West 6th Street in Ashtabula, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Madison Health Care Center.
The daughter of John and Frederika (Carlberg) Larson, she was born Nov. 11, 1905, in North Kingsville and lived her entire life in the Ashtabula area.
She graduated from Ashtabula High School and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially canasta and bridge. She also loved to entertain family and friends in her home.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" M. St. John of Geneva - on - the - Lake; two sons, Milton R. of Playa del Ray, Calif., and David Lee of Huntington, N.Y.; five grandchildren; six great - grandchildren; and a sister, Freda Forringer of Stow.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Walter Johnson, in 1979; two brothers, Carl and Theodore; and three sisters, Ruth, Noel and Emma Peterson.
Funeral is 10 a.m. Friday at the Askew - Brink - Ducro Harbor Funeral Home, 1709 W. 11th St., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Anthony Dusso of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood cemetery.

Jean D. Kinsey
PIERPONT TOWNSHIP - Jean D. (Gross) Kinsey, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Mount Sinai East Hospital, Richmond Heights.
Born April 17, 1922, in Cleveland, she had lived in Pierpont for 12 years, moving from Euclid.
A homemaker, she was a former member of the Euclid Parent - Teacher Association.
Survivors include a son, Jeff; daughters Denise Boyd and Kelly Fisher; grandchildren Danni and Ryan Boyd, Michael Earle, Shannon and T.J. Fisher; and a sister, Eleanor Carson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar W., and a brother, Alton Gross.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Brickman & Sons Funeral Home, 21900 Euclid Ave., Euclid; and at 11:30 a.m. in Greenlawn Memory Gardens Chapel, North Kingsville.

LaVerne D. Weaver
HAMBDEN TOWNSHIP - LaVerne D. Weaver, 62, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Geauga Regional Hospital.
The daughter of Gordon and Angeline (Mermon) Downing, she was born March 7, 1937, in Bloomfield Township.
She married
Abe H. Weaver Jr. in Burton in 1959.
Mrs. Weaver worked in the shipping department at Sanborn Plastics Co. for 19 years, retiring in 1994.
Her hobbies included camping, boating and fishing.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Abe H. III of Willard, James Gordon of Parma and Alan F. of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Fred Downing of Charlotte, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Desaray Weaver of Parma.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her step - parents, Jim and Dorothy Janota.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, with the Rev . Kevin Schwiger of the Lighthouse United Methodist Church of East Claridon officiating. Burial will be in Bloomfield cemetery.

Raymond L. Pasco
MADISON Raymond L. Pasco, 74, lifelong Madison resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at UHHS Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
The son of Thomas Lester and Marie Theresa (McGowan) Pasco, he was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Cleveland.
He married
Pauline (Sears) July 28, 1948, in Madison. He was owner/operator of Star Auto Parts in Madison and Geneva.
An Army veteran, he served in the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Jay Wilson Post 112 and served as member - at - large for the VFW.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan Byczkiewicz and Sandra Walker, both of Madison; three grandchildren, Paula Elder of Geneva and Daniel and Hallie Walker, both of Madison; one sister, Mary Jane Dodge of Madison; and two brothers, Robert Pasco of Florida and William Pasco of Georgia.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ilene Pasco.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison. Burial will be in Unionville cemetery in Unionville.

Betty Jean Cerne
MONROE TOWNSHIP - Betty Jean Cerne, 62, of Bushnell Road died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at her home. She had fought cancer for 27 years.
The daughter of Robert and Nancy (Mullens) Vance, she was born Jan. 22, 1938, in Virginia. She lived in Ashtabula County for 19 years.
She enjoyed people, birds, flowers and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, Richard D. Cerne, whom she married
Feb. 21, 1981; two daughters, Nancy L. Meadwell of Cleveland and Linda M. Warner of Durbin, W.Va.; two sons, Charles "Buck" Stuhl and Earl J. Stuhl, both of Rainelle, W.Va.; two sisters, Merlene Dooley and Janet Dix, both of Summersville, W.Va.; four brothers, Holly of Summersville, W. Va., Hobert Vance of Elba, Ala., Daile Vance of Nelsonville and David Vance of Hazard, Ky.; three stepchildren, Jeff, Richard J. and Kathy L. Cerne, all in Kenmore, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Hirsel Vance.
Service is 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Marcy Funeral Home, a Family Care Group affiliate, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Ron Gamble, pastor of State Line United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in East Conneaut cemetery.
