Larry Manahan
Services for Larry Manahan were held Thursday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with Revs. Todd Anderson and Suzanne Allen officiating. Burial was in Riverview Memory Gardens with military rites accorded by VFW Post 3360. Music was provided by Martie Kindinger and Craig Andrews. Pallbearers were Joel and Ian Manahan, Paul Voight, Fred Schultz, Roger Reece and Steve Snavely. Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Viola Ferenczi
Former Lima resident Viola (Vi) A. Ferenczi, 71, Defiance, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday in St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born June 16, 1930, in Lima, the daughter of George and Anna (Eggelston) Wolf. In 1949, she married
Stephen Ferenczi, who survives. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are two brothers, George Wolf of Belle Center and Jim Wolf, Lima.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and a sister, Katherine Harvey.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Hogenkamp-Straub Funeral Home, Lima. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery, Lima. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
Willis Schwiebert
DESHLER - Willis H. Schwiebert, 61, Deshler, died Tuesday in Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green.
He was born Jan. 4, 1941, in Henry County's Richfield Township, the son of Carl and Clara (Hoops) Schwiebert. He formerly worked at L.E. Meyer High Voltage Systems Inc., Toledo, and Deshler Municipal Utilities from 1984-94. He was a foreman at Encompass Electrical Technologies in Toledo, a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Deshler, Deshler Men's Association, Eagles Aerie 2633 in North Baltimore and IBEW Local 245 in Toledo and a social member of Deshler American Legion Post 316.
Surviving are a son, Mark, Defiance; a daughter, Jackie, Napoleon; three sisters, Mrs. Vernon (Ruth) Panning and Carol, both of Deshler, and Mrs. Thomas (Elaine) Hohenberger, New Bavaria; a special friend, Barb Shoemaker, Deshler; and two grandsons.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a son, Matthew.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with Pastor John Clausen officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Deshler. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Friday in Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Thomas Keifer
McCLURE - Thomas C. Keifer, 86, McClure, died Wednesday afternoon at Heartland of Wauseon. Arrangements are pending at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.
Rita Erford
MILLER CITY - Rita F. Erford, 77, Miller City, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in her home.
She was born April 11, 1924, in Ottawa, the daughter of Bernard and Elida (Klausing) Kruse. In 1946, she married
Henry Erford, who survives. She was the retired co-owner and operator of Mac & Rita's Restaurant, Miller City, and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Miller City and its Altar Rosary Society.
Also surviving are a son, James, Miller City; five daughters, Mrs. Jim (Sharon) Rump of Ottawa, Mrs. Bob (Shirley) Lieurance of Lima and Mrs. Gary (Jean) Nienberg, Mrs. Steve (Janet) Wagner and Mrs. Clarence (Jacki) Verhoff, all of Miller City; two brothers, Bill Kruse of Ottawa and Leonard Kruse, Columbus Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Keith (Martha) Fuller of Wauseon and Betty Stiles, Toledo; and 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Mildred Goedde; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church with Father Robert DeSloover and Deacon James Rump officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Friday in Love Funeral Home, Ottawa. There will be a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Lester Memmer
NAPOLEON - Former Holgate resident Lester Fredrick Memmer, 91, Napoleon, died Wednesday morning in Defiance Hospital.
He was born Sept. 9, 1910, in Henry County's Flatrock Township, the son of Henry and Elsie (Clady) Memmer. In 1936, he married
Dorothy Zachrich, who survives. He worked at General Motors, Defiance, for 23 years and was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Holgate, where he served on its council and was an advisor of the Luther League.
Also surviving are a son, Fredrick, Fremont; a daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Sally Ann) Schwab, Bowling Green; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with Rev. Dana Bjorlin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Snyder Funeral Home, Holgate, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church organ fund or Lutheran Home, Napoleon.
Mabel George
WAUSEON - Mabel I. George, 100, Wauseon, died Tuesday in Harborside Healthcare, Defiance.
She was born July 28, 1901, in Defiance County's Richland Township, the daughter of Harry and Mary (Peter) Willeman. In 1923, she married
Elmer George, who died in 1977. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Wauseon.
Surviving are a son, Robert, New Bern, N.C.; a daughter, Betty Hill, Defiance; a sister, Julia Tedrow, Wauseon; and six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was a sister, Alta Williams.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Wauseon Union cemetery with Rev. Randy Lowe officiating. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. today at Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
Dr. Mary Dawson
Dr. Mary L. Dawson, 53, Defiance, died Tuesday at the home of her brother in Defiance.
She was born April 28, 1948, in Akron, the daughter of William and Veda (Davis) Dawson. She received a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1969 from Western Michigan University (WMU) and master's and doctorate degrees from Indiana University. She had taught at Indiana University, Kentucky Wesleyan and Battle Creek, Mich., public schools before joining the faculty at WMU in 1979, where she conducted research and assisted in establishing and maintaining a biomechanics lab. Active in writing more than 30 articles for journals and conferences, she was also a member of numerous department thesis committees and had been chosen as a recipient of WMU's Alumni Association Teaching Excellence Award.
Surviving are her mother, Bryan; two brothers, Robert of Defiance and John, Danville; and a half sister, Bonnie Dawson White, Greely, Colo.
Preceding her in death were her father; and a half sister, Phyllis Schriber.
Services will be private. There will be no visitation. Handling arrangements is Rice Funeral Home, Bryan.
Preferred memorials are to American Cancer Society or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Mattie Smith
Mattie Smith, 83, Defiance, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday in her daughter's home in Defiance.
She was born Dec. 30, 1918, in Henry County, the daughter of John and Clara (Wirth) Groll. In 1937, she married
Dallas Smith, who died in 2001. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry of New Bavaria and James, Defiance; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Kathy) Wolfrum, Defiance; a brother, Lloyd Groll, Holgate; and seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, John and Darrel Groll; two sisters, Goldia Myles and Betty Botjer; a stepsister, Hilda Hoover; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church with Rev. David Koenig officiating. Burial will be in Ayersville cemetery. Visitation is from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice the Caring Way of Defiance or the church.
Marjorie Carnes
Marjorie R. Carnes, 80, Defiance, died at 12:30 a.m. today in Brookview Healthcare Center.
She was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Findlay, the daughter of Wilbur and Gladys (Heldman) Rainey. In 1947, she married
Alton Carnes, who died in 1967. She was a former manager of Island Parkway Manor, a traveling auditor for Northwest Telephone Co. and a member of American Legion Post 117 Auxiliary, DAV Chapter 36 Auxiliary and Elks Lodge 147 Auxiliary.
Surviving are a niece; and a special friend, Dorothy Clemens, Defiance.
Services and burial will be in Huntsville. There is no visitation. Handling arrangements is Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home.
Barbara Galliers
BEREA, Ky. - Defiance native Barbara A. Brown Galliers, 63, Berea, died Saturday in her home.
She was born Dec. 2, 1938, in Defiance, the daughter of Edward and Amy (Kirtley) Brown. She retired in 1978 from Dow Chemical, Midland, Mich., and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son, Mark, Defiance; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Beth) Puschautz, Surfside, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. James (Jackie) Stone, Defiance; and three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a former husband, John Galliers.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Anderson officiating. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday.

Frances Bayliss
LAKEWOOD - Frances C. Bayliss, 94, Lakewood, died Sunday in Lakewood Hospital.
She was born Dec. 25, 1907, in Superior, Wis., the daughter of Frank and Clarissa Ball. She married
Kenneth Bayliss, who proceded her in death. She owned a retail store in Lakewood and was a teacher in Ney and Superior. She had been a member of Lakewood Emblem Club, Lakewood Women's Club and Elks Lodge.
Surviving are a niece and three nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Luke Church, Lakewood. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Defiance.
