Gilbert Heitmeyer
OTTAWA - Gilbert B. Heitmeyer, 62, Ottawa, died at 12:12 a.m. Thursday in Erlanger Hospital, Chattanooga, Tenn.
He was born Feb. 16, 1940, in Ottawa, the son of Joseph and Lucille (Fenbert) Heitmeyer. In 1963, he married
Alice Romes, who survives. He retired from Silgan Plastics Corp., was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, Ottawa Eagles and Leipsic Hunt and Fish Club.
Also surviving are his mother, Ottawa; two daughters, Sheryl, of Ottawa, and Mrs. Marty (Sandy) Wagner, Miller City; four brothers, Urban of Garland, Texas, Melvin of Bluffton, Marvin of Leipsic and Art, Glandorf; five sisters, Mrs. A.R. (Mary Ann) Charnes of Long Island, N.Y., Dolores Goecke of Glandorf, Mrs. Dennis (Edna) Brown of Ottawa, Mrs. Dennis (Irene) Recker of Findlay and Mrs. Tom (Susan) Mutchlar, New Bavaria; and three grandchildren.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday in the church with Father Tom Hemm officiating. Burial will be later. Visitation is today from 1-9 p.m. with a scripture service at 3 p.m. and an Eagles service at 7:30 p.m. in Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.

James Imler
PAYNE - James D. Imler, 44, Payne, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday in his home, following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 27, 1958, in Van Wert, the son of George Imler and Ruth (Hamman) Pate. In 1977, he married
Becky Gaskill, who survives. He was owner of Imler Construction, Payne, for 12 years.
Also surviving are his father, Convoy; his mother, Ohio City; a son, Michael, Payne; a daughter, Michelle, Payne; a sister, Mrs. Emiliano (Charlene) Nunez, Cloverdale; and a stepbrother, Jack Murphy, Marion.
Preceding him in death were his stepmother, Helen Imler, and stepfather, Barry Pate.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert. Burial is in St. Paul's cemetery, Briceton. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, and an hour prior to time of services Tuesday.
Mattie Smith
Services for Mattie Smith were at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Lutheran Church with Rev. David Koenig officiating. Burial was in Ayersville cemetery. Pall Bearers were Dale Gruenhagen, Steven Brown, Rodney Wichman, Jon Michel and Michael, Scott and Todd Smith. Oganist was Virginia Kruse. Mast-Mock-Hoffman handled arrangements.
Barbara Galliers
Services for Barbara A. Brown Galliers were at 1 p.m. Friday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home withe Rev. Tod Anderson officiating. Organist was Barb Stephens and soloist was John Mitchell.
Emmett Kern
CONTINENTAL - Emmett (Gene) E. Kern, 73, Continental, died at 7:27 p.m. Saturday in Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 19, 1928, in McGuffey, the son of Emmett and Opal (Hunsicker) Kern. In 1948, he married
Erma Shank, who survives. He was a retired electrician and foreman at Phillips Display Components Co. in Ottawa, a member of Christ United Methodist in Continental and Phillips' Quarter Century Club and a former member of Conservation Club, Continental.
Also surviving are a son, Philip, Continental; two daughters, Mrs. Butch (Rebecca) Perrine of Lima and Laura Lammers, Continental; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, with Rev. James Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Monroe cemetery, Continental. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to American Diabetes Association.
Dessie Moore
CONTINENTAL - Dessie Ann Moore, 69, Continental, died at 11:08 a.m. Saturday in Continental.
She was born June 4, 1932, in Defiance, the daughter of Albert and Mary Ann (Coil) Miller. In 1950, she married
Roy Moore, who died in 1993. She was a homemaker and a member of Fort Recovery VFW Post Auxiliary and Celina American Legion Post Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, Norman, Continental; and four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a stepgrandchild and a great-stepgrandchild.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; a stepfather, Guy Skoker; a daughter, Tamara Richards; a brother, Irvin Miller; and four stepbrothers, Laurence, Paul, Emmanuel and Joe Stoker.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance, with Thomas Colvin officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Defiance. Visitation is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to American Cancer Society.
Alberta Elwood
CRIDERSVILLE - Alberta (Bertie) M. Elwood, 80, Cridersville, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday in Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Community, Cridersville.
She was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Bluffton, the daughter of Wilbur and Ruth (Faze) Sumney. In 1941, she married
Rev. John Elwood, who died in 1977. She was a homemaker and a member of Westview United Methodist Church in Cridersville, Lafayette Order of Eastern Star Chapter 121 and Ada Liberty Grange and a former member of Sugar Grove United Methodist Church in Ada and its United Methodist Women.
Surviving are two sons, William of Hicksville and J. Richard, Fisher, Ill.; three daughters, Diane Mathews of Cleveland Heights, Patricia Harris of Ada and Mrs. Jerry (Kae Ann) Lewis, Conover; three brothers, Norman Sumney of Lima, Fred Sumney of Lafayette and Wilbur Sumney Jr., Union; a sister, Jeanne Sutton, Lima; and 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two grandsons and a great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Rev. Laura Raypholtz-Clark and Pastor Thomas Dearth officiating. Burial will be in Dola cemetery, Dola. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. There will be an Eastern Star service at 8 p.m. Tuesday conducted by Lafayette Chapter 121.
Preferred memorials are to Sugar Grove United Methodist Church or Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement community.
Elmer Lewis
LEIPSIC - Elmer E. Lewis, 94, Leipsic, died at 8:49 p.m. Saturday in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Care Center, Findlay.
He was born Dec. 26, 1907 in Riga Township, Mich., the son of Gaius and Arvilla (Ford) Lewis. In 1940, he married
Dorothy Klump, who survives. He was a retired electrician from the Jeep plant in Toledo, a member of Leipsic United Methodist Church and a former member of Emmanual United Methodist Church, Blissfield, Mich.
Preceding him in death was a sister.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Leipsic United Methodist Church, Leipsic, with Revs. Mary Bushong, Rupert Lindley and L.E. McCormack officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Ridge cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. today in Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic, and one hour prior to services Tuesday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to Leipsic United Methodist Church.
Marjorie Ripke
Services for Marjorie Ann Ripke will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Hunsinger officiating. Burial will be in Brunersburg cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Tuesday in the church. Among survivors are two brothers, Lewis Leonard of Fort Wayne and John Leonard Jr., Defiance.
Elouise Hendricks
ALVORDTON - Elouise Marcile Hendricks, 80, Alvordton, died Wednesday evening in her home.
She was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Williams County, the daughter of Verne and Bertha (Dohm) Stiving. In 1941, she married
Gerald Hendricks, who survives. She graduated from Defiance College in 1967 with a degree in elementary education and was a teacher in Superior, Pioneer, Kunkle and Riverdale schools, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Lick Creek Church of the Brethren in Bryan, serving as a deacon and deacon emeritus. She was past president of Northwest Ohio District Women's Fellowship of the Brethren Church and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma-Delta Zeta Chapter, Forest Mothers Study Club and Ohio and Williams County Retired Teachers' association.
Also surviving are three sons, Charles of Davenport, Fla., Rodney of Pioneer and Morris, New Bavaria; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Richard and Robert Stiving; and a sister, Margaret Sweet.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the church with Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will be in Floral Grove cemetery, Pioneer. Visitation is from 2-7 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 p.m. Sunday in Rice Funeral Home, Bryan, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
Thomas Kiefer
McCLURE - Thomas C. Kiefer, 86, McClure, died Wednesday afternoon in Heartland of Wauseon.
He was born April 30, 1915, in Bernie, Mo., the son of John and Minnie Kiefer. In 1947, he married
Lillian Russell, who survives. He served in World War II, worked at Toledo's Jeep plant before retiring in 1980 and was a member of Toledo's Disabled American Veterans Post.
Also surviving are a son, Thomas, Lambertville, Mich.; three daughters, Teresa McLove of Grand Rapids, Deanna of Whitehouse and Cheryl, Lafayette, Colo.; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Russell; and five sisters, Cleo Pittman, Charity Montgomery, Emma Hervey, Juanita Kiefer and Gertrude Allen.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, with Rev. Brian Haller officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery, Napoleon. Visitation is after 11 a.m. Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
Paul Gamble
WAUSEON - Paul L. Gamble, 82, Wauseon, died Wednesday in Heartland of Wauseon following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Wauseon, the son of Art and Byrd (Showalter) Gamble. In 1950, he married
Pauline Vollmer, who survives. He was a rural carrier with the Wauseon Post Office for 40 years and a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in the European Theater. He was a past member of the 40 & 8 Club and Drum and Bugle Corps and a member of First Christian Church, F&AM and American Legion Post in Wauseon, Norwalk VFW Post, Purple Heart Society and National Rural Letter Carriers.
Also surviving are two sons, Rodney of North Canton and Larry, Maumee; and five grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Maynard; and two sisters, Janette Mann and Norma Gamble.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the church with Rev. E. Keith Oditt officiating. Burial will be in Wauseon Union cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon.
Preferred memorials are to the church or Wauseon Fire and EMS.
Richard LaFountain Sr.
PAULDING - Richard (Jeff) J. LaFountain Sr., 87, Paulding, died at 11:05 a.m. Thursday in Defiance Hospital.
He was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Swanton, the son of Joseph and Alice (Collet) LaFountain. In 1939, he married
IIa Aten, who survives. He was a lineman for Paulding-Putnam Electric Co. for 41-years, retiring in 1980, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulding, its Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of Paulding County Genealogy Society and John Paulding Historical Society and aided in the founding of Paulding's LaFountain Park.
Also surviving are five sons, Joseph and R. John Jr., both of Paulding, Thomas of Arthur, Jean of Wauseon and Mark, LaCruces, N.M.; three daughters, Laurel Minck of Defiance, Mrs. Ronald (Rose Marie) Davidson of Antwerp and Mrs. Lynn (Carole) Williams, Oklahoma City; and 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Christine; a brother, Clarence; a sister, Margaret Essing; and two grandsons and a great-grandson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church with Rev. G. Allan Fillman officiating. Burial will be in Live Oak cemetery, Paulding. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Sunday in Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services on Monday in the church. A wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday.
