Ethan Scott Tyler Marr
(1997 - 2005)
NAPOLEON - Ethan Scott Tyler Marr, 7, of Napoleon, died Friday, July 8, 2005, as the result of an automobile accident at the intersection of U.S. 24 and Henry County Road 17-D. Born Sept. 22, 1997, at Napoleon, he was the son of Scott A. Marr and Julie C. Richmond.
He was a first grade student at the West Elementary School in Napoleon.
Surviving are his father, Scott A. Marr of Napoleon; grandparents, Floyd and Mary Richmond of Holgate, Jeanne Ross of Liberty Center and Eian Marr of Olympia, Wash.; and great-grandparents, Dale and Maxine Ross of Colton.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. in the DenHerder Funeral Home, Paulding. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., with additional visitation one hour before the services, in the First Christian Church, Paulding. Burial will be in Hedges Cemetery, Jackson Township, Paulding County.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society - Ovarian Research, National Cystic Fibrosis Society or the Napoleon West Elementary School Library Fund.
Patricia Irene Richmond
(1953 - 2005)
NAPOLEON - Patricia Irene Richmond, 51, of Napoleon, died Friday, July 8, 2005, as the result of an automobile accident at the intersection of U.S. 24 and Henry County Road 17-D.
Born Aug. 24, 1953, in Paulding County, she was the daughter of Norma Jean (Webb) and Wilbur "Shorty" Boroff.
She was the office manager for Paragon Custom Plastics of Bryan.
Surviving are a daughter, Melissa Floyd of Napoleon; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Shane (Donna) Pierce of Van Wert; two stepsons, Tom Richmond of Tahlequah, Okla. and David (and wife, Pam) Richmond of Edgerton; 10 grandchildren; and five brothers, David Boroff of Paulding, Gary (Tammy) Boroff of Grover Hill, Steve (Michele) Boroff of Elida, William H. (Kendra) Boroff of Mainville and Jim (Deborah) Boroff of Van Wert.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter, Julie Richmond; and a grandson, Ethan Marr. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. in the DenHerder Funeral Home, Paulding. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., with additional visitation to be held one hour prior to services, in the First Christian Church in Paulding. Burial will be in Hedges Cemetery, Jackson Township, Paulding County.

Ronald A. Gray
(1931 - 2005)
MONTPELIER - Ronald A. Gray, 74. of rural Montpelier, died unexpectedly at his home Friday morning, July 8, 2005.
Born Jan. 15, 1931, near Fayette, to Mabel Alice (Cox) and Donald Dwight Gray, he married Barbara J. Scott on Jan. 24, 1954, and she survives.
A 1949 graduate of Montpelier High School, he was a veteran of the
Korean War, having served with the U.S. Navy and later the U.S. Marine Corps.
He had retired in 1990 as a brakeman with the Norfolk & Southern Railroad where he had been employed for 37 years. Also, for 10 years, he was co-owner and operator of Montpelier Excavating Company.
A member of the United Transportation Union, he was an avid hunter and raised coon dogs and beagles.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rick A. (and wife, Angela) Gray of Sylvania and Robert R. Gray of Pioneer; a daughter, Greta A. (and fiance, Courtney Perkins) Fetters of Montpelier; seven grandchildren, Scottie Fetters of Montpelier, Robert A. Gray of Pioneer, Mrs. Dustin (Heidi) Crider of Waterville, Alan McKelvey of Charleston, S.C., Shane (Mariann) Hillard of Temperance, Mich., Kyle Hillard of Cleveland and Rachel Bryan of Perrysburg; and four great-grandchildren, Lauren Crider of Waterville and Lainey, Levi and Ava Hillard of Temperance, Mich.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Todd Mills to officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier.

Katie Jo Appel
(1987 - 2005)
HICKSVILLE - Katie Jo Appel, 18, of rural Hicksville, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Cleveland, after a sudden illness.
Born June 14, 1987, in Defiance, she was the daughter of Jodi R. (Bernath) and Kevin L. Appel. A 2005 graduate of Fairview High School, she was a member of the Fairview Apache Ladies baseball team and the Varsity Club. She also played softball for the Flying Eagles.
Surviving are her father, Kevin L. Appel of Hicksville; her mother, Jodi R. Appel of Bryan; a sister, Marissa L. Appel of Hicksville; a half brother, Todd Taylor of Toledo; maternal grandparents, Ronald and Joann Bernath of Wauseon; and paternal grandparents, Deloy and Mary Appel of Ney. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Chris Sigmon to officiate. Interment will follow in Farmer Cemetery, Farmer.
Memorials may be made to the Defiance County Humane Society.
Lloyd E. 'Lou' Gerig
(1926-2005)
WEST UNITY -Lloyd E. 'Lou' Gerig, 78, of West Unity, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at his residence. Born July 13, 1926, in Woodburn, Ind., to Esther (Zimmerman) and Raymond R. Gerig, he married Helen J. Notestine on Feb. 8, 1948, and she recently preceded him in death on June 30, 2005. A 1944 graduate of West Unity High School, he was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Berlin during World War II. He was a lifetime farmer in Brady Township in Williams County, where he was a Brady Township Trustee for 27 years.
He was a member of the Hamer Tech semi-pro baseball team, the American Legion Post 669 of West Unity, and the Farmers Union. An avid bowler, he was a 'booster of the year' recipient for the Hilltop High School Athletic Boosters.
A member of the West Unity United Methodist Church, he was a former member of the West Franklin United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Thomas L. (and wife, Jean) Gerig of West Unity; two daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Cathie R.) Batt of Montpelier and Mrs. Alan (Melanie B.) Calvin of Montpelier; four grandsons, Todd Gerig of Archbold, Matt (and wife, Jessica) Gerig of Delta, Tony Gerig of West Unity and Cory Calvin of New York City, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Mrs. Matt (Christie) Hoffman of Montpelier and Mrs. Shane (Abigail) Richmond of Montpelier; a great-grandson, Ian Lynn Hoffman of Montpelier; a great-granddaughter, Macy Claire Gerig of Delta, and another one on the way; three sisters, Fern Merillat of West Unity, Mrs. Floyd (Hutoka) Opdycke of Fayette and Velma Albert of Paulding; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death, in addition to wife, were his parents; a brother, Lawrence Gerig; an infant son; two brothers-in-law, LaVern Merillat and Forrest Albert; and a nephew, Terry Merillat.
Visitation will be Monday from 2-8 p.m. at the Hollingshead-Beck Funeral Home in West Unity.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the West Unity United Methodist Church, with an hour of visitation prior to the services. The Rev. Ruth Ann Scoby will officiate. Burial with
military rites by the American Legion Post 669 of West Unity will be in the West Franklin Cemetery in Franklin Township in Fulton County.
Memorials may be made to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, or to the Hilltop High School Athletic Boosters.
Samuel W. Metz
(1953-2005)
KENDALLVILLE, Ind. - Samuel W. Metz, 52, of Kendallville, died Friday afternoon, July 8, 2005, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he was a patient.
Born April 2, 1953, in Auburn, he was the son of Florabelle (Dixon) and Bobby D. Metz. He married Rachael A. Sholl on July 24, 1971, in Edgerton, Ohio, and she survives.
He was a 1971 graduate of Edgerton High School and received his bachelors degree from Purdue University in 1989. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville, he was manager of software development for Jayco in Middlebury.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Metz is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Pete (Amy) Jimenez of Albion; a son, Benjamin (and wife, Tammi) Metz of Avilla; four grandchildren, Kaitlin and Elliott Jimenez and Logan and Audrey Metz; his father, Bobby D. (Marlene) Metz, of Bryan, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. Ronald (Linda) Stayer, of Auburn.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Florabelle Metz.
Visitation will be Monday from 3-8 p.m. ( Ohio time) in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton, Ohio, with recitation of the rosary at 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. ( Ohio time) in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edgerton, with Father Stephen Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
Barbara A. (Byall) Schnuck
MARTINEZ, Ga. - Barbara A. (Byall) Schnuck of Martinez and formerly of Montpelier, Ohio, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, after a brief illness.
Born in Fort Wayne, Ind. and reared in northwest Ohio, she received degrees in radiological sciences, nursing and business management, all with highest honors. She was a member of the Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Lloyd B. Schnuck; her mother, Mrs. Druzilla Byall of Montpelier, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Homer (Marilyn) Scott of Martinez, Ga. and Northport, Mich.; brothers, David Byall of Lancaster, Ky., Paul Byall of Savannah, Ga. and Jack (and wife, Betty) Byall of Petersburg, Mich.; nephews, Jason Byall, Kevin Byall, Justin (Heather) Byall, Andrew (Anthea) Scott and Gordon (Amy) Scott; a niece, Mrs. Hank (Jessica) Beitzel; great-nieces, Elizabeth and Anna Beitzel; and great-nephew, Cooper Scott.
Family graveside services were held with interment at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Ga. Memorials may be made to the Schnuck Education Endowment at the Medical College of Georgia Foundation, Alumni Center, Fl 1050, Augusta, GA 30912 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
