Laurel Crawford
DESHLER - Laurel (Nick) A. Crawford, 80, Deshler, died at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.
He was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Henry County, the son of Albert and Esther (Awe) Crawford. In 1945, he married Erma Day, who survives. He was the owner and operator of Crawford Industries, Deshler, and a member of Deshler's First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 316. He did ditches and tile drains to vitalize farming in the area and was a U.S. Army Air Force staff sergeant serving during World War II in the 586th Engineer Squadron 73rd Service Group where he was awarded the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Also surviving are two brothers, Albert (Jim) of Wauseon and Donald, Napoleon.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Mearl, Howard and Perry; and a sister, Elna Koppenhoffer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the church with Rev. Daniel Singell officiating. Burial will be in Grelton cemetery with military rites accorded by Deshler American Legion Post 316. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler.

Mary Taylor
HAMLER - Mary Taylor, 59, Hamler, died Thursday afternoon in Henry County Hospital, Napoleon. Arrangements are pending at Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon.

John Spurgeon
NAPOLEON - John (Sam) S. Spurgeon, 74, Napoleon, died Thursday morning in his home.
He was born June 22, 1927, in Holgate, the son of Louis and Daisy (Knicley) Spurgeon. In 1957, he married Susan Theisen, who died in 1993. He was a mechanic at Campbell Soup Supply Co., Napoleon, for 32 years, retiring in 1990, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and American Legion Post 300. He was a life member of AMVETS Post 1313, a life member, former commander and former quartermaster of VFW Post 8218, all of Napoleon, and a former commander of VFW Post 8847, New Bavaria. The former District 1 VFW quartermaster was a life member of VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids, Mich., and VFW Past Commanders' Association and a member of Retiree's Club of Campbell Soup Supply Co.
Surviving are five sons, Thomas of Deshler, Anthony of Hamler, Todd of Wauseon and Thaddeus and Timothy, both of Napoleon; a brother, David, Deshler; two sisters, Mrs. James (Emma) Yuille of Toledo and Mrs. Robert (H. Jeanette) Peterman, Fremont; and 10 grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Louis (Pete); and a sister, Luella Mae Henry.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church with Father Todd Dominique officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by joint veterans' post of Napoleon. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. today in Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, with a VFW memorial service at 8 p.m. and a scripture service at 8:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.

Henry Lewis III
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Henry Lewis III, 28, Washington, D.C., died Wednesday in Howard University Hospital, Washington D.C.
He was born Feb. 16, 1974. He was a computer systems analyst for I.M.F. and attended Catholic University.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Carol and Charles Edwards, Dale City, Va.; five sisters, Angela Ottesen of Wisconsin, Kristy Edwards of Centerville and Stephanie, Rebecca and Amanda Edwards, all of Manassas, Va.; and grandparents, Earl and Naomi Fry of Ohio and William Lewis, Maine.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Epiphany Lutheran Church, Dale City. Visitation is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Mountcastle Funeral Home, Dale City. A private burial will follow.
Preferred memorials are to the Henry Lewis III memorial fund at the church. Condolences may be sent to mountcastle.net

Albert Smith
NAPOLEON - Services for Albert Edward Smith will be at 2 p.m. today in Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon, with Rev. James Updegraff officiating. Among survivors is a daughter, Mrs. James (Deborah) Wortkoetter, St. Charles. Mo.

Albert Leeman Hastings
BRYAN - Albert Leeman Hastings, 81, Bryan, died Wednesday afternoon in Community Hospital of Williams County-Bryan.
He was born May 4, 1920, in Bryan, the son of Albert and Rebecca (Kaiser) Hastings. In 1940, he married Veda Pickering, who survives. He retired in 1980 after 30 years as a truck driver for Herriott Trucking Co. The U.S. Navy veteran served in World War II and was a member of Bryan American Legion Post 284.
Also surviving are a son, Tim, Bryan; a half brother, LeRoy, Defiance; and two granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were a half sister, Audrey McClure; and a great-granddaughter.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Farmer cemetery with Rev. Christopher Hintz officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Bryan American Legion Post 284. There is no visitation. Handling arrangements is Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton.
Preferred memorials are to Faith United Methodist Church, Bryan.

Albert Smith
NAPOLEON - Albert Edward Smith, 88, Napoleon, died at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday in the Lutheran Home, Napoleon.
He was born Feb. 7, 1914, in Tiffin, the son of Nora (Coffman) Andis. He was adopted by Aaron and Alice Smith, In 1953, he married Dorothy Brase, who survives. He was a truck driver for Norwalk Trucking and Red Star Trucking and an employee at the 7-Up bottling company, Napoleon. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont and the Teamsters.
Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Hollis (Mary Ann) Mulchay of Pahrump, Nev., Mrs. Leonard (Rose Ann) Long of Defiance Mrs. James (Deborah) Worthkoetter of St. Charles, Mo., and Mrs. Terrance (Sandra) Coppler, Fostoria; and 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon, with Rev. James Updegraff officiating. Visitation is from noon Friday until services.
Preferred memorials are to Henry County Humane Society.

John Spurgeon
NAPOLEON - John (Sam) Spurgeon, 74, Napoleon, died this morning in his home. Arrangements are pending at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.

Paul Marriott
OTTAWA - Paul A. Marriott, 92, Ottawa, died at 4 p.m. Monday in Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa.
He was born April 22, 1909, in Cloverdale, the son of Randolph and Josephine (Leatherman) Marriott. In 1940, he married Mabel Bauer, who died in 2000. He was a retired owner and operator of the former Gulf Service Station and Marriott Chevrolet dealership, both in Continental. He was active in many civic organizations and a member of Continental United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church in Ottawa and Christ United Methodist Church, Bradenton, Fla., where he was a trustee and worked on the staff.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Ruth Ann) Brinkman Stechschulte, Ottawa; four sisters, Emma Halbgewoks of Bradenton, Zelma Schmidt and Velma Shalter, both of Continental, and Faye Doseck, Lima; and three grandsons.
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Lewis (Mike); and two sisters, Florence (Flossie) Parrett and Doris (Babe) Reynolds.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Continental United Methodist Church with Revs. Gregory Wack and Ken Pollitz officiating. Burial will be in Monroe cemetery, Continental. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Sunday in Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Eula Mae Tennison
PAULDING - Former Continental resident Eula Mae Tennison, 82, Paulding, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in Laurels of Defiance.
She was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Booneville, Miss., the daughter of Joe and Luella (Crane) Trimble. In 1940, she married Hermon Tennison, who died in 1979. She was a homemaker, a member of Continental American Legion Auxiliary and Continental VFW Auxiliary and attended Paulding Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are a son, Bill, Crystal Lake, Ill.; a daughter, Patsy Lawson, Paulding; and four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-stepgrandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Clint, Otter and Marshall Trimble; and a sister, Onnie Timbs.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the church with Revs. Keith Sarver and Terry Porter officiating. Burial will be in Monroe cemetery, Continental. Visitation is from 12-3 p.m. Saturday in Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.

Willis Stahl
WEST UNITY - Willis (Bill) Leroy Stahl, 84, West Unity, died Wednesday morning in Community Hospital of Williams County-Bryan.
He was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Fairview, Mich., the son of Charles and Esther (Reber) Stahl. In 1945, he married Agnes Kathleen Prough, who survives. He was a mechanic and maintenance employee at Lugbill Brothers Corp., Archbold, for 42 years. He was a member of Salem Mennonite Church, Waldron, Mich., and served in the Civilian Public Services in Iowa during World War II.
Also surviving are a daughter, Joyce Yoder, West Unity; a brother, Carl, Pigeon, Mich.; two sisters, Priscilla Harrison of Standish, Mich., and Alene Rabold, Lawrenceville, Ga.; and a grandson.
Preceding him in death were two sons, Wendell and Gary.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Lockport Mennonite Church, Stryker, with Wilmer Hartman, Brad Faler and Ned Wyse officiating. Burial will be in Lockport cemetery, Stryker. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church. Handling arrangements is Hollingshead Funeral Home, West Unity.
Preferred memorials are to Salem Mennonite Church, Gideons International or a charity of the donor's choice.

Donald Davis
NECEDAH, Wis. - Donald Alvin Davis, 74, Necedah, died Monday in Marshfield Clinic, Marshfield.
He was born Dec. 21, 1927, the son of Alvin and Ruth Davis. He was a U.S. service veteran.
Surviving are his wife Soniya; a son, Michael, Libertyville, Ill.; a daughter, Susan Hesse, La Jolla, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Darrell (Donna Jean) Moore of Defiance, Norma Myers of McComb and Mrs. Paul (Carol) Zimmerman, Continental.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Services were held in Mesteda, Wis.

James Caryer
MARION - James Leroy Caryer, 75, Marion, died at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday in Marion General Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Defiance, the son of Leo and Irene (Relyea) Caryer. In 1950, he married Virginia McGough, who preceded him in death. In 1972, he married Ruth Ann Hoffman, who survives. He was a machinist, minister and high school teacher and helped promote the concept of Tri-Rivers Career Center, retiring in 1986. The Habitat for Humanity volunteer was a member of Marion County Historical Society, county and state Retired Teachers' Associations and Marion First Church of the Nazarene.
Also surviving are two sons, Keith of Cleveland Heights and Randy, Morral; a daughter, Sally Ann; three brothers, Leo Jr., Richard and Howard; two sisters, Blanche and Juanita; and five granddaughters.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, Clarence, Jack, Chuck and Homer; and a sister, Thelma.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Boyd Funeral Home, Marion, with Pastor Steven Deweber officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, Mount Vernon. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.
Preferred memorials are to Marion First Church of the Nazarene, Greenwood United Methodist Church trustees fund or Habitat for Humanity.

Ruth Searcey
Services for Ruth Searcey were held Wednesday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Revs. Gerald Mallott and David Good officiating. Entombment was in Riverside cemetery's mausoleum. Pallbearers were Jack Fauster, Ned Willey, Ron Jackson, Bob Bochenek, John Mitchell and Ron Martin.
