Wayne Rigg
STRYKER - R. Wayne Rigg, 77, Stryker, died at 3:55 a.m. Friday in Montpelier.
He was born Feb. 24, 1925, the son of Burl and Urilla (McKarns) Rigg. In 1946, he married Irene Gamber, who survives. He was an insurance salesman for Nationwide Insurance, a deputy sheriff for Williams County, and founder of Tri-State Nitrogen Co. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps, a member of Evansport United Methodist Church, Stryker American Legion, Williams County Saddle Club, and Literary Club Occla, a lifetime member of Bryan VFW, active in the Chamber of Commerce, a published author, and a 32nd degree Mason, serving as past Worshipful Master.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bob (Holly) Davis, Paulding; two brothers, Dale of West Unity, and Ralph, Bryan; and four grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a son, Bill.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Pulaski United Methodist Church with Rev. Mel Peters officiating. Burial will be in Schiffler cemetery, where graveside rites will be accorded by Bryan VFW. Visitation is two hours prior to services Monday at the church, where a Masonic service will be held at 11:30 a.m.
Preferred memorials are to Williams County Hospice.
Emma Buchhop
WAUSEON - Emma Katherine Buchhop, 100, Wauseon, died Friday evening at Fulton Manor.
She was born April 25, 1901, in Henry County, the daughter of John and Mary (Hahn) Rohrs. In 1924, she married Rudolph Buchhop, who died in 1986. She was a homemaker and worked part time at La Choy Foods, Archbold. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Margaret) Croninger of Wauseon, Mrs. Roy (Elaine) Noward of Maumee, and Mrs. Ed (Mary Ellen) Boon, Port Clinton; a son, John, Hillsdale, Mich.; and 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Herman, Carl and Bill Rohrs; three sisters, Altha Rickenberg, Alvina Rohrs, and Valeta Freytag; and a grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Rev. Scott Silcox officiating. Burial will follow in Wauseon Union cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home.
Preferred memorials are to the church.

Janet Meloy
Janet Reid Meloy, 79, Defiance, died at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday in Toledo Hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage at home.
She was born April 17, 1923, in Haverstraw, N.Y., the daughter of Rev. S. Leslie and Maud (Brown) Reid. In 1945, she married Rev. John Meloy, who survives. She was a 1945 graduate of the College of Wooster, an academic counselor at University of Rochester in New York and Defiance College and an office manager for Defiance District's United Methodist Church for 16 years. She had been a former Red Cross swimming instructor and a member of First Presbyterian Church, St. John United Church of Christ, Presbytery Peacemaking Committee, Yokefellow House trustee board, League of Women Voters and American Association of University Women.
Also surviving are a son, Reid, San Diego; two daughters, Lynn Meloy Cain of Cincinnati, and Rachel Hopple, Tiffin; and a sister, Ann Poling, Albuquerque, N.M.
Preceding her in death was a twin brother, John Reid.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 6, in St. John United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Meetinghouse cemetery, Brattleboro, Vt. Visitation is in the church fellowship hall following services Monday. Handling arrangements is Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home.
Preferred memorials are to a church, environmental cause or Defiance County Humane Society.

Noah Ream Jr.
Noah (Bud) J. Ream Jr., 77, Defiance, died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday in Harborside Healthcare.
He was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Defiance, the son of Noah Sr. and Bess (Desgrange) Ream. In 1944, he married June Ruetz, who survives. He was a Tiffin Township farmer, a life member of Defiance Eagles Aerie 372, a member of Evansport Fox Club and Defiance Farm Bureau and a square dance caller.
Also surviving are two sons, William and Reno, both of Defiance; a sister, Marjorie Fox, Canton; and three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Rev. Alfred Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to Harborside Healthcare or a charity of the donor's choice.

Eloise Bowers
BRYAN - Former West Unity and Montpelier resident Eloise Mae Bowers, 65, Bryan, died Saturday morning at Harborside Healthcare, Bryan.
She was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Fulton County, the daughter of Andrew and Carrie (Schneider) Towns. She was married to Enos Bowers, who died in 1970. She was a Protestant, an employee of Hillside Country Living, Bryan, and a member of 3F Diet Club, West Unity.
Surviving are a daughter, Rosemary, Bryan; a sister, Patsy Towns, Bryan; and three grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hollingshead Funeral Home, West Unity, with Dennis St. John officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Union cemetery, Fayette. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. today.
Preferred memorials are to the family.

Cheryl Degenkolb
BRYAN - Cheryl L. Degenkolb, 55, rural Bryan, died at 3:05 p.m. Saturday in her home after a nine-month illness.
She was born Feb. 15, 1947, in Detroit, the daughter of Robert and June (Baldizar) Russell. After the death of her parents, she was raised by Howard and Betty Rigg. In 1967, she married J. Robert Degenkolb, who survives. She was a member of Orchard Hills Country Club, Bryan.
Also surviving are two sons, Jay of Rockwood, Mich., and Marc, Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents and Howard and Betty Rigg.
Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, with Pastor David Gohn officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Thelma Varner
EDON - Thelma L. Varner, 84, Edon, died Saturday in Community Hospitals of Williams County-Bryan.
She was born June 1, 1917, in Hamilton, Ind., the daughter of Elson and Clara (Durr) Buell. In 1936, she married Paul Varner, who died in 1985. She was a farmer and a life member of Edon United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and coordinated church dinners.
Surviving are two daughters, Clara Willibey of Houston and Carole, Edon; a son, Allen, Terre Haute, Ind.; a brother, Lee Buell, Angola, Ind.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a sister and four brothers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Krill Funeral Home, Edon, with Pastor Eric Dailey officiating. Burial will be in Edon cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today.
Preferred memorials are to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Orville Ernst
NAPOLEON - Orville D. Ernst, 84, Napoleon, died Sunday at Northcrest Nursing Home, Napoleon.
He was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Liberty Center, the son of George and Giulla (Wagner) Ernst. He married Sadonna Farison, who died in 1991. He was a farmer and member of Lauber Hill Reformed Mennonite Church, rural Archbold.
Surviving are three sons, Larry of Columbus, David of Bellview, Wash., and Doug, Napoleon; two daughters, Linda Byrley of Napoleon and Joanne, Fayette; a sister, Pauline Cogan, Wauseon; and 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church with Robert and Oakley Meyers officiating. Burial will be in Lauber Hill cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.

Donald Highwarden
PAULDING - Donald (Ducky) Crumwell Highwarden, 63, Paulding, died at 1:54 a.m. Saturday in Paulding County Hospital.
He was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Fort Wayne, the son of Doyle and Dorothy (Paskell) Crumwell. In 1956, he married Joanne Hook, who survives. He was a well-known racing horse jockey and trainer throughout the U.S. and Canada, one of the top 10 racing jockies in the U.S. in 1972, and had been on the cover of Thoroughbred magazine in 1972. He worked for the former Beverly Plastering Co., Paulding.
Also surviving are his mother, Dorothy Paskell, Fort Wayne; four daughters, Joni Hernandez and Mrs. Mike (Denise) Freise, both of Paulding, Nicole Cruz of Defiance and Mrs. Chris (Donia) Anderson, Hicksville; four sons, Charles of Holgate, Donald and Michael, both of Paulding, and Don Mericle, Fort Hood, Texas; a brother, Sean Odem, Fort Wayne; three sisters, Coralie Pate of Paulding and Ethlyn Carey and Tonya Odem, both of Fort Wayne; and 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his father; a daughter, Donna; a sister, Betty Beverly; and a grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with Rev. Robert Paskell officiating. Burial will be in Paulding Memorial cemetery. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to the family.

Genevieve Sterling
Services for Genevieve Schmitt Sterling will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marysdale, with Rev. William Martin officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation at the church will follow interment.

Frederick Kammeyer
ANTWERP - Frederick E. Kammeyer, 81, Antwerp, died at 11:44 p.m. Wednesday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Woodburn, Ind., the son of Fred and Laurena (Lesher) Kammeyer. In 1948, he married Ruth Kurts, who died in 1997. He attended International Business College, Fort Wayne, and was the owner and operator of Kammeyer's IGA, Antwerp, for 51 years. He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, a charter member and past president of Antwerp Rotary Club and past president of Antwerp Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Antwerp Community Improvement Corp., VFW Post 5087, Paulding County school board and Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Antwerp and a former Antwerp village councilman.
Surviving are a son, Robert, Antwerp; a daughter, Sue Fowler, Antwerp; two brothers, Harold of Leo, Ind., and Melvin, Woodburn; two sisters, Eleanor Gerbers of New Haven, Ind., and Esther Goeglein, Woodburn; and four grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death was his brother, Clarence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the church with Rev. William Emrick officiating. Burial will be in Maumee cemetery, Antwerp, with military rites accorded by VFW Post 5087. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Sunday in Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, and one hour prior to services Monday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
