James Tageson
BRYAN - James M. Tageson, 80, Bryan, died at 11:05 p.m. Monday in Harborside Healthcare, Bryan, after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Chamberlain, S.D., the son of James and Pauline (Scott) Tageson. In 1958, he married
Lydia Stein, who died in 1990. He was a lineman with International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers, Philadelphia, for 30 years, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are a sister, Virginia Barron, Bryan; and a special friend, Dorothy Panning, Bryan.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Krill Funeral Home, Edon, with Pastor Eric Daley officiating. Burial will be in Metz cemetery, Metz, Ind. Visitation is from 12-2 p.m. Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to Northwest Regional Dialysis Center, Bryan.
Wayne Shaffer
BRYAN - Wayne Burdell Shaffer, 77, Bryan, died Monday afternoon in Dilworth Center, Montpelier.
He was born April 10, 1924, in West Unity, the son of Truman and Ruth (Martin) Shaffer. After his mother's death, he was raised by an aunt and uncle, Letha and Dan King. In 1947, he married
Clela Suter, who survives. He was a foreman/machinist at Aro Corp., Bryan, retiring in 1983, and later worked at Arrow Tru-Line Inc., Archbold and Bryan. He worked at Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home, Bryan, for more than 35 years, and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Marshall Islands during World War II. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 284 and VFW Post, all of Bryan.
Also surviving are two sons, David and Kevin, both of Bryan; a half brother, Danny, Arkansas; two half sisters, Helen Bernath of Michigan and Diane Miller, Ohio; and three granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; the aunt and uncle; a brother, Gerald; and a sister, Arlene Sebring.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home with Rev. Dwight Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Shiffler cemetery, Bryan. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to Dilworth Center.
Mercy Johnson
BUTLER, Ind. - Former Defiance resident Mercy L. Johnson, 89, Butler, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday in Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home, Butler.
She was born June 3, 1912, in Shotow, Okla., the daughter of Harvey and Mercy (Case) Fisher. In 1939, she married
Russell Johnson, who died in 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of Ener Jets Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Sally, Butler; and a sister, Bonnie Kiene, Valley City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in H.E. Johnson and Son Funeral Home, Butler, with Rev. Frank Weller officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Friday.
Donna Belle Sigg
EVANSPORT - Donna Belle Sigg, 74, Evansport, died late Sunday at Harborside Healthcare, Defiance.
She was born May 30, 1927, in Defiance, the daughter of John and Ethel (Guthrie) Peterson. In 1947, she married
Alvin Sigg, who died in 1994. She was a realtor for 40 years, an insurance agent for 20 years and a member of Ohio Board of Realtors, United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, serving as a former worthy matron. She and her husband owned and operated Sigg Realty and Auctions, Evansport.
Surviving are a son, William, Defiance; a daughter, Rhonda, Evansport; and four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and a great-stepgrandchild.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and two brothers, William and John Peterson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Grisier Funeral Home, Stryker, with Rev. Melvin Peter officiating. Burial will be in Evansport cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
Jane West
FORT WAYNE - Former Hicksville resident Jane H. West, 49, Fort Wayne, died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday in Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne.
She was born July 26, 1952, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Sam and Barbara (Brinker) Barkman. She worked at SDI Steel Plant, Butler, and attended Coburn Corners Church of Christ.
Surviving are three sons, Brandon Barkman and Sam and Christopher West, all of Fort Wayne; her parents, Hicksville; three brothers, Glen and Paul Barkman, both of St. Joe, and John Barkman, Hicksville; three sisters, Sue Sanders of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Vera Ball of Fort Wayne, and Rita Virt, Indianapolis.
Preceding her in death was a brother, James Barkman.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Rev. Scott Qualls and Pastor Brad Ball officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home cemetery at Hicksville. Visitation is after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana.
Danny Manchester
HOLLAND, Mich. - Danny Manchester, 59, Holland, died Sunday in Holland Community Hospital.
He was born Jan. 3, 1943, in Painesville, the son of John and Maxine Manchester. He lived at Fountain View Retirement Home, Holland, and was a member of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, Holland.
Surviving are his parents, Holland; a brother, Jim, North Carolina; and a sister, Mrs. Dan (Jane) Meyers, Holland.
Services will be at 2 p.m. March 19 in Mulder Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Home, Holland, with Revs. Michael Loughman and Randy Stark officiating. Burial will be in Ohio. There is no visitation.
Melvin Strayer
LIBERTY CENTER - Melvin (Butch) D. Strayer, 66, Liberty Center, died today in Northcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Napoleon.
He was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Neapolis, the son of Lawrence (John) and Margaret (Conner) Strayer. In 1961, he married
Annette Burns, who survives. He worked at Multicast Foundry, Wauseon, for 30 years, retiring in 1992, and was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Alva N. Sidle American Legion Post 232 in Grand Rapids and Liberty Center Wesleyan Church.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Eric (Loretta) Peabody, Liberty Center; two sons, Jeff of Toledo and Craig, Swanton; three sisters, Mrs. Donald (Virginia) Myers of Neapolis, Mrs. William (Sue) Jenkins of McClure and Mrs. Jerry (Linda) Creps, Delta; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, with Pastor Jerry Steen officiating. Burial will be in Young's cemetery, Liberty Center, with military services accorded by American Legion Post 232. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Friday.
Preferred memorials are to the church, Henry County Visiting Nurses or Liberty Center Fire and EMS.
Jennie King
NAPOLEON - Jennie E. King, 77, Napoleon, died Monday evening in Northcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born March 21, 1924, in Paulding County, the daughter of Henry and Laura (McComb) Foreman. She married
Kenneth Good, who died in 1974. She then married
Robert King, who died in 1988. She worked at General Motors, Defiance, for 37 years and was a member of Ney Church of God, Defiance VFW Post 3360 Auxiliary, Defiance American Legion Post 117 and Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233.
Surviving are a son, James Good, Napoleon; two stepdaughters, Edna Mae Bernath of Bryan and Connie Mercier, New Albany; three sisters, Mrs. Billie (Josie) Devine of Fort Wayne, Hazel Brown of Columbus and Bertha Sanders, Atlanta; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death three brothers, James, Ben and Bill Foreman; and a sister, Juanita Walters.
Private services will be at a later date. Handling arrangements is Snyder Funeral Home, Holgate.
Eldor Plassman
NAPOLEON - Eldor G. Plassman, 86, Napoleon, died Tuesday morning in Lutheran Home, Napoleon.
He was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Ridgeville Corners, the son of Karl and Frieda (Riefers) Plassman. In 1942, he married
Marie Loudon, who died in 1999. He retired in 1975 from the former REA Express, was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Napoleon, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Lions Club International, Delta Nu Alpha Traffic Fraternity and Brotherhood of Railway Clerks.
Surviving are a son, Gerald, Newport News, Va., two daughters, Rev. Joyce Johnston of Brown City, Mich., and Mrs. Michael (Kay) Northrup, Chillicothe; two brothers, Carlton of Defiance and Donald, Napoleon; three sisters, Hermie Smith and Delora Duerk, both of Defiance, and Henrietta Baden, Troy; and five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Norman; and a sister, Laurena Bruns.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church with Revs. James Updegraff and Robert Mix officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, with military rites conducted by joint veterans posts of Napoleon. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.
Preferred memorials are to the church or Lutheran Home.
Emma Marie Krieger
WAUSEON - Emma Marie Krieger, 59, Wauseon, died Monday at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Henry County's Ridgeville Township, the daughter of Fred and Amelia (Meyer) Norden. In 1961, she married
Donald Krieger, who died in 1984. She was a press operator at Plastech and a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Wauseon and Wauseon VFW Post 7574 and American Legion Post 265 auxiliaries.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Kathy) Mull, Delta; three sons, Keith and Kenny, both of Wauseon, and Kevin, Seattle; two brothers, Marvin and Dale Norden; and four grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her parents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church with Rev. Thomas Lutz officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery, Ridgeville Corners. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the church. Handling arrangements is Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon.
Preferred memorials are to the church, Wauseon VFW or American Legion auxiliaries.
Wilbur Kolb
Services for Wilbur V. Kolb were held Tuesday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Father George Wenzinger officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery with military rites accorded by VFW Post 3360. Pallbearers were members of VFW Post 3360 members Warren Spencer, Ralph Coressel, Neil Schriner, Bernard Sines, Ralph Hutchinson and John Curle.
Christopher Gilmore
Services for Christopher E. Gilmore were held Tuesday in Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Frake officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Music was by Bill Addington and Steve Scott. Pallbearers were Adam Gilmore, Charlie and Brad Casey, Sean Bayless, Bobby Joe Phillips and Josh Saunders. Honorary pallbearers were Don, Rick, Mike and Mark Casey, Horace Gilmore, Bob Phillips, Terry Hohenberger, Phil Saunders and Mike Jones.
Albert Rife
PAULDING - Former Paulding mayor and councilman Albert Earl Rife, 77, Paulding, died at 3:55 p.m. Sunday in his home.
He was born Nov. 13, 1924, in Paulding, the son of Leo and Bessie (Grimes) Rife. In 1946, he married
Genevieve Noneman, who survives. The former mayor of Paulding served from 1966-70 and 1984-88 and was a member of Paulding Village Council from 1962-66. He was the owner and operator of Rife's Barber Shop, Paulding, working for 40 years and retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulding and Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Council 2584. The U.S. Army veteran served in World War II and was a life member and quartermaster of Paulding VFW Post 587.
Also surviving are two sons, Roger of Swanton and Jeffery, Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Alice) Fasman of St. Louis and Mrs. Fredrick (Barbara) Koch, Paulding; a brother, Jack, Warsaw, Ind.; a sister, Donna Dangler, Paulding; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Patricia Etter and Gloria McGill; and a brother, Eugene.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church with Rev. G. Allan Fillman officiating. Burial will be in Paulding Memorial cemetery with military services accorded by Paulding VFW Post 587. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday in Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with a wake service at 8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Paulding Area Visiting Nurses and Hospice or masses.
