Goldie Peabody
WAUSEON - Goldie P. Peabody, 88, Wauseon, died Thursday at Fulton Manor Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Henry County, the daughter of George and Viola (Beavers) Bressler. In 1934, she married
Nelson Peabody, who died in 1984. She was a homemaker and member of Beulah United Methodist Church, Winameg.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald of Delta and Duane, Ocala, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Daryl (Carol) Hildreth of Lake Alfred, Fla., and Irene Welch, Shelbyville, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and 26 great-stepgrandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Edgar and Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon, with Rev. Kenneth Ladd officiating. Burial will be in Winameg cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today .
Preferred memorials are to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Charlotte Sitton
PAULDING - Services for Charlotte Sarah Sitton, 75, Paulding, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with Rev. Bobby Branham officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until time of services Monday. Among survivors is a daughter, Mrs. Don (Janet) Thompson, Cecil.
Doris Holley
Services for Doris A. Holley were held Friday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Braun officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Rufner, Joey and James Miranda, Rick Kiessling and Bill and Rick Holley.
Virginia Hachtel
Former West Unity resident Virginia M. Hachtel, 92, Defiance, died at 1:25 a.m. Sunday in Defiance Hospital.
She was born Dec. 16, 1909, in Skaneateles, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Jennie (Beebe) Edson. In 1941, she married
Rueben Hachtel, who died in 1999. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Carnation Literary Club and Brady Grange.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Jennie) Borton of Defiance and Susan, Lander, Wyo.; two sons, John of Middleton, Texas, and George (Hap), Mount Enterprise, Texas; a brother, Willard Edson, Toledo; and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was a sister, Jeanette Vrooman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with Rev. Todd Anderson officiating. There is no visitation. Handling arrangements is Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home.
Preferred memorials are to St. Paul's United Methodist Food Pantry or Defiance County Senior Center.
Sara Burkholder
ARCHBOLD - Sara Joy Burkholder, 25, Archbold, died Friday afternoon in Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon.
She was born Dec. 16, 1976, in Monroe, Wis., the daughter of Charles and Pamela (Clair) Rychener. In 2000, she married
Jay Burkholder, who survives. She was a 1995 graduate of Archbold High School, where she was a member of National Honor Society and active in sports and music. She received a degree in education from Anderson University, Anderson, Ind., in 2000, and was a school teacher of language arts for the seventh grade at Burr Road Middle School, Wauseon. She was a member of Pettisville Missionary Church, where she was a junior high youth sponsor.
Also surviving are her parents, Archbold; an infant son, Jackson; two brothers, Matthew and Joshua, both of Archbold; a sister, Rebekah Rychener, Archbold; and grandparents, William and Ruth Clair and Dorothy (Chub) Rychener, all of Archbold.
Preceding her in death was a grandfather, Glen Rychener.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the church with Pastors John Horning and David Dyck officiating. Burial will be in Pettisville cemetery. Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday in the church. Handling arrangements is Short Funeral Home, Archbold.
Otto Hunter
FORT WAYNE - Otto R. Hunter, 91, Fort Wayne, died at 4 a.m. Sunday in Woodview Health Care Center.
He was born Aug. 25, 1910, in Bowling Green, the son of Otho and Rosa (Greiner) Hunter. He was married
to Ruth Jennings, who died in 1952. He then married
Genevieve Powell, who died in 1978. And, he married
Annabelle Tosconi, who died in 1997. He was a machinist for years at Tokhelm, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and member of Civilian Conservation Corps, following World War II.
Surviving are a daughter, Frances Walters, Hamilton, Ind.; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death was a twin brother, Otho.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Antwerp, with Father Herman Scherger and Deacon Robert Nighswander officiating. An additional service will be held at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in Woodview Health Care Center, Fort Wayne. Burial is in the Catholic cemetery, Fort Wayne. Visitation is from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Wednesday in Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.
Cloyce Waisner
NAPOLEON - Cloyce W. (Red) Waisner, 80, rural Napoleon, died Saturday evening in Country View Haven.
He was born June 1, 1921, in Flatrock Township, Henry County, the son of William and Helen (Andrew) Waisner. In 1945, he married
Lois Eberle, who died in 1997. He was a farmer, raised quarter horses and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate, and American Quarter Horse Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Shirley) Prigge, Napoleon; a brother, Gene, Napoleon; a sister, Rosa Lee Brown, Napoleon, and four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Thomas and Leland.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Rev. Jane Hillman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. today in Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice of Henry County or a charity of the donor's choice.
V. LaMar Gisel
ARCHBOLD - V. LaMar Gisel, 63, Archbold, died Wednesday evening in his residence.
He was born Sept. 28, 1938, near Archbold, the son of Vern and Fannie (Short) Gisel. In 1999, he married
Patty Nofziger, who survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran, worked as a plasterer in California, Arizona and Ohio, and was plant manager for 30 years at Archbold Ladder Co. of Archbold and Goshen, Ind. He attended Pettisville Missionary Church.
Also surviving are his mother, Fannie Gisel, Archbold; two stepsons, Shane Snyder of Toledo and K.C. Snyder, at home; two stepdaughters, Kelli Snyder of San Diego and Lesley Snyder, Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Ned, Archbold; three sisters, Mrs. James (Nadine) Leithauser of Sherwood, Mrs. Lonnie (Carol) Short of Archbold and Mrs. John (Bettilu) Fraas, Ashland; and a granddaughter.
Preceding him in death was his father.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday in the church with Pastor David Dyck officiating. Burial is in Pettisville cemetery. Visitation is from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Short Funeral Home, Archbold.
Max Aragon
BRYAN - Max J. Aragon, 88, Bryan, died at 9:10 p.m. Sunday in Defiance Hospital.
He was born May 24, 1913, in Hancos, Colo., the son of Juan and Adalade (Torres) Aragon. He was a retired commercial truck driver and U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are a son, John, Bryan; and seven grandchildren.
There are no services or visitation.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mast-Mock-Hoffman handled arrangements.
Max Greer
HICKSVILLE - Max H. Greer, 80, Hicksville, died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born May 8, 1921, in Hicksville, the son of Estel (Eck) and Hazel (Hart) Greer. In 1951, he married
Marcella (Sally) Soboslay, who died in 1986. He attended Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., and was a jazz trumpet player and teacher, toured with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis for two years, performed with a band at Cold Springs, Hamilton Lake, Ind., and prior to retirement, performed with Dick Alexander's Townsmen Band, Fort Wayne.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne Musicians Union, Hicksville Village Players, Undertones Musical Group and Hicksville American Legion Post 223.
Surviving is a son, Peter, Hicksville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Rev. Greg Imboden officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home cemetery, Hicksville, with graveside military rites accorded by Hicksville American Legion Post 223. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to Ohio Society for Prevention of Blindness.
Ralph Morhart
HICKSVILLE - Ralph L. Morhart, 87, Hicksville, died at 5:20 a.m. Thursday in Hickory Creek Care Center.
He was born June 4, 1914, in Paulding County, the son of Iro and Lennie (Goying) Morhart. In 1937, he married
Emma Gordon, who died in 2001. He was a farmer and bus driver for Hicksville Exempted Village Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Paulding County, and a past member of Fairview Grange.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mary Jane) Cline of Hicksville and Mrs. Don (Maxine) Ater, Fremont, Ind.; two sons, James of Woodburn, Ind., and Joe, Bryan; a sister Lois Reeb, Montpelier; a brother, Ray, Elida; and 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a sister, Mary Smith; and a great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Pastor Charles Schmunk officiating. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery, Paulding County. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until time of services Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
Mac Arthur Gibson
NAPOLEON - Mac Arthur Gibson, 59, Napoleon, died Wednesday afternoon in his residence.
He was born April 23, 1942, in Scott County, Va., the son of Sylvester and Rosie (Collins) Gibson. In 1970, he married
Connie Shafer, who survives. He was a job coordinator for Campbell Soup Co. of Napoleon, before retiring in 1974. He was a member of Haven Heights Baptist Church, Wauseon, and former member of First Baptist Church.
Also surviving is a son, Jeffrey, Napoleon; seven brothers, Joel, Gream, Claude and Charles, all of Napoleon, Edward of Liberty Center, James of Winter Haven, Fla., and George, Dunganion, Va.; two sisters, Betty Caldwell of McClure and Mary Scarbrough, Napoleon; and three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother and a sister.
Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, Napoleon, with Revs. Rick Trumbo and Richard Young officiating. Burial is in Riverview Memory Gardens, rural Defiance County. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.
