Virgil Roddy
BRADENTON, Fla. - Former Napoleon resident Virgil Walter Roddy, 82, Bradenton, died Thursday morning at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Napoleon, the son of Lester and Emma (Dickman) Roddy. In 1941, he married Marjorie Long, who died in 2001. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a produce buyer for Chief Supermarkets in Napoleon and Wauseon, and member of Bert G. Taylor Post 300, Napoleon American Legion.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary Jo) Herrick, Redding, Calif.; two sons, Robert of Holmes Beach and Roger, Lima; a sister, Margaret Rice, Wauseon; a brother, Elmer, Colton, Calif.; and seven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death was a granddaughter.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, with Pastor David Bringman officiating. Burial is in Glenwood cemetery, Napoleon, with military rites conducted by Napoleon joint veteran organizations. Visitation is form 9-11 a.m. Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to American Diabetes Association.

James Thornburg
BRYAN - James A. Thornburg, 63, Bryan, died Friday morning in his residence.
He was born June 16, 1938, in Hicksville, the son of Willis and Leona (Gonser) Thornburg. He married Marilyn Thornburg, who survives. He worked at Pet Milk Co. for more than 19 years and ITT Industries, Archbold, for 16 years. He served from 1961-1967 in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of First Church of Christ, Bryan Fraternal Order of Eagles, Defiance Moose Lodge and Fort Defiance Wings Motorcycle Club chapter M-2.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Jane) Lime, Ayersville; three brothers, Ralph and Denver of Bryan and Butch Miller, Hicksville; a sister, Mrs. Michael (Sherlene) Hoffman, Bryan; and two grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home, Bryan, with Rev. Larry Snavely and Dean Phillips officiating. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Monday.
Preferred memorials are to Community Hospitals of Williams County, Hospice.

Harold Petersen
DESHLER - Harold M. Petersen, 84, Deshler, died Friday at 10:35 a.m. in Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green.
He was born July 6, 1917, in Henry County, the son of Bahne and Alvena (Junge) Petersen. In 1939, he married Ellen Rosebrook, who survives. He was a farmer, raised chickens and turkeys, and was employed for many years as a driver and foreman for Koppenhofer Bros. Poultry, Deshler. He was a member, former elder and trustee of Peace Lutheran Church and member of Bavarian Club of Deshler.
Also surviving are four sons, Kenneth, Howard and Leon, both of Deshler and Harold (Butch), Hamler; a daughter, Mrs. Leroy (Marcelle) Caplinger, Deshler; a brother, Marvin, Liberty Center; two sisters, Mrs. Martin (Mildred) Panning of Deshler and Dolores Johnston, Napoleon; and 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and six great-stepgrandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Lawrence, Andrew and Paul.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday in the church with Pastors Micah Ernst and Paul Lehenbauer officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. today in Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler.
Preferred memorials are to the church, Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.

Bertha Stoller
HAVILAND - Bertha (Tootie) C. Sinn Stoller, 66, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.
She was born Nov. 20, 1935, in Cissna Park, Ill., the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Feller) Kaufmann. In 1954, she married Carl Sinn, who died in 1985. In 1996, she married Ralph Stoller, who survives. She was a homemaker and member of Latty Apostolic Christian Church, Latty.
Also surviving are eight sons, Stanley and Tom Sinn, both of Haviland, Barry of Cecil, Rick of Perrysburg, Greg of Oakwood, Brian and Eric, both of Paulding, and Brad, Defiance; four daughters, Mrs. Ray (Carol) Stoller of Paulding, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Klotzle of Marshallville, Mrs. Arthur (Kathy) Warr of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Jeff (Lisa) Stykemain, Defiance; six brothers, Robert Kaufmann of Morton, Ill., Calvin, Albert Jr. and Archie Kaufmann, all of Cissna Park, Ill., Benjamin Kaufmann, of Fort Wayne, and Donald Kaufmann, Bloomington, Ill.; four sisters, LaVerne Kaufmann, Emily Eisenmann and Marcella Markwalder, all of Cissna Park, Ill., and Martha Rinkenberger, Eureka, Ill.; and 38 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Margaret Kaufmann and Lydia Rocke; and three brothers, William, Clyde and Wilmer Kaufmann.
Services are at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the church with church clergymen officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. today in the church's fellowship hall and from 12:30 p.m. until services Monday.
Preferred memorials are to the donor's choice.
Den Herder Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Donna Diemer
HOLGATE - Donna J. Diemer, 46, Holgate, died at 3:05 p.m. Friday in her residence.
She was born Aug. 29, 1955, in Lima, the daughter of Alburn and Carlita Merritt. In 1980, she married Les Diemer, who survives. She worked as a machine operator for three years at Johns Manville, Defiance, and for 12 years at Consolidated Biscuit Co., McComb. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Napoleon, and played bingo at the Society of the Handicapped, Napoleon.
Also surviving are her mother, Northcreek; three sons, Steven of Napoleon, A. Kyle of Springfield and L. Aaron, Holgate; a daughter, Mrs. Cameron (Andrea) Smith, Holgate; a sister, Mrs. Bruce (Diane) Dukes, Continental; a brother, Michael Merritt, Northcreek; and two grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her father.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the church with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial is in Forest Hill cemetery, Napoleon. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and from 12-1 p.m. Wednesday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to MCO cancer research.

Austin Tuttle
NAPOLEON - Austin E. Tuttle, 87, Napoleon, died Friday evening in Toledo Hospital.
He was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Napoleon, the son of Fred and Pauline (Gehringer) Tuttle. In 1951, he married Elizabeth Buckmaster, who died in 1995. He was a self-employed carpenter and cabinetmaker, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, attended St. Paul United Methodist Church, Napoleon, and was a life member of Napoleon American Legion Post 300.
Surviving are a son, Austin Jr., Toledo; and a daughter, Nancy.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Girard, Roger and Evert; and a sister Doris Stegner.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, with Rev. Michael Westbay officiating. Burial is in Independence cemetery, Independence, with military rites accorded by Napoleon joint veterans posts. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Leola Schultz
NAPOLEON - Leola C. Schultz, 83, Napoleon, died Friday morning at Heartland of Browning, Waterville.
She was born May 15, 1918, in Napoleon, the daughter of Henry and Sophia (Gabers) Mohring. In 1936, she married John Schultz, who died in 1978. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and worked for J.A. Schultz and Son for more than 20 years.
Surviving are two sons, Eldon of Boca Raton, Fla., and Robert, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; a daughter, Marilyn Adams, Napoleon; a brother, Eldor Mohring, Napoleon; two sisters, Luella Pillifant of Deerfield, Beach, Fla., and Lucille Cordes, Napoleon; a stepsister, Esther Nagel, Wauseon; two stepbrothers, Walter Von Deylen, of Ridgeville, and Eldor Von Deylen, Napoleon; and five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-stepgrandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Laura Heckler and Loretta Hess, and a grandson.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Snyder Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon, with Pastor Norman Koy officiating. Burial is in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Monday.
Preferred memorials are to American Cancer Society, the church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Evelyn Pilliod
NAPOLEON - Evelyn M. Pilliod, 89, Napoleon, died Thursday evening in her home.
She was born Jan. 19, 1913, the daughter of Anthony and Evelyn (Mahoney) Hahn. In 1942, she married Edmund Pilliod, who died in 1975. She was a retired teacher from Swanton and Napoleon School Districts where she taught French, English and Latin for 20 years, was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Browsers Literary Group and several bridge clubs.
Surviving are three daughters, Claire Brown of Grosse Pointe, Mich., Jane, of Baltimore, Md., and Emilie Pritchard, Panama City, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Catherine Hoeffel and Sister Mary Evelyn, SND.; and a granddaughter.
Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Monday in the church's cemetery, Napoleon, with Father Todd Dominique officiating, followed by services at the church at 11 a.m. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. today in Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, with a wake service at 5:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the church's school or Hospice of Henry County.

Mildred Borton
NEY - Mildred B. Borton, 90, Ney, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday in her home.
She was born June 2, 1911, in Defiance County, the daughter of Elmer and Matilda (Mack) Shannon. In 1933, she married Robert Cromwell, who died in 1951. In 1968, she married Francis Borton Jr., who survives. She was a member of Marysdale Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Altar Society and was employed by Ohio Art for about 30 years.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert Cromwell of Montpelier and Richard Cromwell, Ney; a daughter, Mrs. Billy (LaDonna) Hoffman, Coldwater, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Dale (Arlene) Calvin, Montpelier; four brothers, Don of Zephrhills, Fla., George Shannon of Defiance, Paul Shannon of Lakeland, Fla., and Charles Shannon, Versailles, Ky.; and six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a sister, Betty Shannon; three brothers, Harold and Bob Shannon, and infant Irvin Shannon; and a grandson.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Father William Martin officiating. Burial is in the church's cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Alzheimer's Association, Hospice the Caring Way of Defiance or the church.

Charles Hamet
PIONEER - Charles F. Hamet, 81, Pioneer, died at 10:50 p.m. Thursday in Defiance Hospital.
He was born June 18, 1920, in Stryker, the son of Floyd and Mabel (Bruot) Hamet. He married Wilma Brigle, who died in 2000. He was an advertising salesman for about 40 years, mostly with Thomas D. Murphy Co., a farmer, sold farm implements and seed and was a door-to-door milkman in Pioneer and Montpelier for Sterling Dairy. He owned an antique store in Pioneer and was a long-time member of Pioneer Chamber of Commerce, Pioneer United Methodist Church, and a 26-year and charter member of Pioneer Lion's Club.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth, Defiance; and three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a great-stepgrandchild.
Also preceding him in death were twin sons.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the church with Rev. Lee Ortman officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Montpelier. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. with a service by the Pioneer Lion's Club at 7 p.m. today in Thompson Funeral Home, Pioneer.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
