Paul Degler
LAKE PLACID, Fla. - Former Defiance County resident Paul D. Degler, 86, Lake Placid, died Wednesday in Lake Placid Health Care Center.
He was born April 13, 1915, in Defiance County, the son of Carl and Esther (Fritz) Degler. In 1938, he married Frances Gebers, who died in 1990. In 1994, he married Katherine Nicols, who survives. He worked at General Motors for 26 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sebring and active in Alcoholics Anonymous.
Also surviving are a son, Russel, Hamler; two daughters, Norma Helmke and Emma Goller, both of Defiance; a sister, Donna Rogliatti, Napoleon; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two sons, Melvin and Donald; a sister, Dorothy Zinser; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Snyder Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.

Donald Mohr
Services for Donald (Chester) E. Mohr were held Thursday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Father Tim Kummerer officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Organist was Jim Dunham. Pallbearers were John Perez, Floyd Stites, Eric and Bob Mohr, John Foor and Christopher Jackman.

Kathleen Patterson
ARCHBOLD - Kathleen S. Patterson, 67, Archbold, died Monday night in her home.
She was born Dec. 17, 1934, near Wilburn, Ark., the daughter of Walter and Ida (Philmade) Scott. She worked at Lange's Bakery and Fairlawn Haven and retired from ITT Higbie in 1999. She was a member of Central Mennonite Church, Archbold, and volunteered at Fairlawn Haven.
Surviving are three sons, Glenn of Stryker and Cliff and Willard, both of Archbold; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Christine) Oswalt of Archbold and Mrs. Gary (Annette) Hill, Stryker; five brothers, Elmer Scott of Ola, Ark., Arlen Scott of Rover, Ark., Shelby Scott of Danville, Ark., and Donald and Lloyd Scott, both of Plainview, Ark.; four sisters, Rosalee Hooker and Hazel Weems, both of Plainville, and Lois Valquez and Gladys Gibson, both of California; and 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Albert, Lellus and Thurman Scott; and a sister, Willa Jean.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church with Pastors Cliff Brubaker, Jeff Smith and Charles Gautsche officiating. Burial will be in Pettisville cemetery. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Friday in Short Funeral Home, Archbold.
Preferred memorials are to Fairlawn Chapel or the church.

John Hazelton Sr.
PANDORA - John L. Hazelton Sr., 73, Pandora, died at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday in Lima Memorial Hospital. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Friday in Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Ottawa. Further arrangements are pending.

Estel Ankney
PAULDING - Estel (Jim) Woodrow Ankney, 83, Paulding, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday in his residence.
He was born April 30, 1918, in Paulding, the son of Eli and Susie (Layman) Ankney. In 1940, he married Opal Glick, who survives. He was a farmer and worked at Winkle Chevrolet in Paulding and Grizzly Manufacturing for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding, and a former member of Paulding Fire Department.
Also surviving are two sons, R. Rex of Paulding and Marvin, Vandalia; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Melody) Schultz, Findlay; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were five brothers, Carl, Albert, Willis, Earl and Walter; and a sister, Nettie Miller.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with Pastor Mary Beth Smith-Webb officiating. Burial will be in Live Oak cemetery, Paulding. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Friday and 8-9 a.m. Saturday in Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services Saturday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church, Paulding Fire Department or a charity of the donor's choice.

Sarah Sproul
DADE CITY, Fla. - Word was received of the March 7 death of former Defiance resident Sarah Faye Sproul, 89, Dade City, at Pasco Regional Medical Center, Dade City.
She was born July 19, 1912, in Defiance County, the daughter of James and Carrie (Boatman) Bodenbender. In 1929, she married Douglas Sproul, who died in 1989. She owned and operated River Rest Convalescent Home in Defiance, was a teacher's aide at Good Samaritan School for 12 years and retired to Florida in 1975. She was a member of Eastern Star and First Presbyterian churches in Defiance and Dade City.
Surviving are a son, James, Dade City; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Dolores) Zimmerman of Zephyrhills and Mrs. Hal ( Patricia) Lamparelli, Boca Raton; a sister, Myrtle Anspaugh, Mesa, Ariz.; and 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. David Good officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to the church or Good Samaritan School.

Paul Degler
LAKE PLACID, Fla. - Former Napoleon resident Paul D. Degler, 86, died Wednesday evening in Lake Placid. Arrangements are pending at Snyder Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Chester Bauer
CONTINENTAL - Former Continental resident Chester C. Bauer, 59, died Sunday afternoon in North Baldwin Infirmary, Bay Minetle, Ala.
He was born July 8, 1942, in Toledo, the son of Cyril and Agnes (Williams) Bauer. In 1975, he married Beverly Sue Hamilton, who survives. He was a millwright at GM Powertrain, Defiance, for 34 years, retiring in 2001, and a member of Free Christian Church of God in Continental and UAW Local 211. He was a life member of Escapees Club and Passport America Club and served in the National Guard.
Also surviving are his father, Holgate; two daughters, Mrs. Scott (Shari) Blackhood of Sylvania and Mrs. Matthew (Michelle) Eppel, Defiance; a son, Scott English, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; a brother, Lester, Ayersville; three sisters, Mrs. Leo (Juanita) Clausen of Napoleon, Mrs. Dan (Ann) Pyle of Washington and Mrs. Gerald (Donna) Schlautman, Beavercreek; and eight grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his mother.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the church with Revs. James Fry and Carol Retcher officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, and one hour prior to services Friday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church lighting fund.

Margaret Bischoff
NAPOLEON - Margaret E. Bischoff, 82, Napoleon, died at 1:07 p.m. Tuesday in Henry County Hospital.
She was born Dec. 28, 1919, in Henry County, the daughter of Albert and Otina (Schwiebert) Prigge. In 1947, she married Alfred Bischoff, who survives. She was a beautician at Margaret's Beauty Shop in Hamler, a seasonal helper at Campbell Soup Co. and an employee at Reichart's Jewelry Store, both of Napoleon. She owned a rug weaving business and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon and its Altar Guild, PTR Club, Lutheran Layman's League and Fellowship Club.
Also surviving are two daughters, Marianne of Tracy, Calif., and Mrs. Steve (Joanne) Voigt, Kingston, N.H.; a brother, Clarence Prigge, Holgate; a sister, Lora Watkins, Hamler; and three granddaughters.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Lulu Arps.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church with Pastors Norman Koy and Peter Marcis officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday in Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Lutheran Hour, the church's scholarship fund or Lutheran Layman's League.

Helen Reeser
SWANTON - Helen Elizabeth Reeser, 81, Swanton, died Tuesday morning in Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon.
She was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Cedar Hill, Texas, the daughter of Roy and Zona (Switzer) Hamilton. In 1946, she married Ray Reeser, who died in 1994. She was a member of Shiloh Christian Union Church in Delta and American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Nelson (Donna) Weaver of Terre Haute and Mrs. Edward (Sandra) Norman, Swanton; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was a granddaughter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church with Pastor Chuck Whitmire officiating. Burial will be in Gettysburg cemetery, Gettysburg, with a graveside service at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center.
Preferred memorials are to the church or American Cancer Society.

Estel Ankney
PAULDING - Estel (Jim) Woodrow Ankney, 83, Paulding, died this morning in his home. Surviving is his wife, Opal. Arrangements are pending at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.

Mildred Borton
Services for Mildred B. Borton were held Tuesday at Marysdale Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father William Martin officiating. Music was provided by Thelma Brenner, Kevin and Kimberly Hopkins and the church choir. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were John, Rick and Terry Winright, Julie Shutson, Rob Cromwell and Kimberly Hopkins. Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home handled arrangements.

H. Louise Burkhart
H. Louise (Lou) Burkhart, 69, Defiance, died at 2:21 p.m. Friday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Hicksville, the daughter of Homer and Hilda (Wort) Miller. In 1957, she married Philip Burkhart, who survives. She was a secretary at Bolley's, Treadway and Integrity GM dealership for 33 years before retiring, was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and its choir and Christian Mother's Association.
Also surviving are: a son, Barry Lucas, Ligonier, Ind.; a sister, Jean Coplin, Hicksville; and a grandson and two great-grandsons.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Robert Miller; and a son, Gerald Lucas Jr.
Services are at noon Monday in the church with Father George Wenzinger officiating. Burial is in Riverview Memory Gardens. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to American Heart Association.

Sara Burkholder
ARCHBOLD - Sara J. Burkholder, 25, Archbold, died Friday afternoon at Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon. Among survivors are her husband, Jay Burkholder, and an infant son. Arrangements are pending at Short Funeral Home, Archbold.

Guy Carnahan
BRADENTON, Fla. - Former Oakwood resident Guy A. Carnahan, 91, died Wednesday in Blake Medical Center, Bradenton.
He was born March 31, 1910, in Paulding County, the son of Marion and Elsie (Fuller) Carnahan. In 1949, he married Lucille Carnahan, who died in 1996. In 1998, he married Elizabeth Carnahan, who survives. He was manager of Oakwood Telephone Co. before retiring in 1983 and was a member of Auglaize Chapel Church of God, Oakwood.
Also surviving are three daughters, Shirley Rickner of Hillard, Ohio, Nancy Murray of Mesa, Ariz., and Gloria O'Keefe, El Sobrante, Calif.; a son, Bill, Oakwood; a sister Eunice Bradford, Oakwood; and 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a sister, Ethel Specht; and two brothers, Laurel and Clair.
Services are at 11 a.m. March 23, in Auglaize Chapel Church of God, Oakwood, with Rev. Raymond Matson officiating. Burial will be in Sherman-Brown Township cemetery, Paulding. There is no visitation. Kicliter Funeral Home, Palmetto, Fla., handled arrangements.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
