Claude Flory
PIONEER - Claude Laverne Flory, 83, Pioneer, died Saturday morning in his home.
He was born July 19, 1918, in Jewell, the son of Henry and Agnes (Schock) Flory. He married
Melba Tate, who survives. He was owner of Flory's Trenching and Excavation of Pioneer for 41 years and member of Pleasant Ridge Dunkard Brethren Church, rural West Unity.
Also surviving are a son, Marvin, Dallas Center, Iowa; two daughters, Claudia Meyers of Moselle, Miss., and Delores Shoup, Pioneer; a brother, Harley, Defiance; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his stepmother, Abbie; and a granddaughter, Roxanne.
Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Brothers Dennis St. John and Tom St. John officiating. Burial is in Poplar Ridge cemetery, Jewell. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Monday in Hollingshead Funeral Home, West Unity.
Preferred memorials are to Community Hospitals of Williams County's Montpelier Rehabilitation.
Sandra Sears
Sandra Sears, 44, Defiance, died Friday, along with her son, Arnold, as a result of a traffic accident.
She was the daughter of Howard and Bertha (Self) Griffith. She married
Arnold Sears, who survives. She was a homemaker and attended Amazing Grace Baptist Church and formerly attended Free Will Baptist Church.
Also surviving are a daughter, Amanda Lajoy; her parents; many stepchildren; two brothers, Larry and Howard Jr. Griffith; two sisters, Frances Griffith and Mrs. Gary (Melissa) Phillips; and a granddaughter.
Joint services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Biehl-Malone Funeral Home, Swanton. Burial will be private. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Monday.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
Arnold Sears II
Arnold (Strawberry) Sears II, 20, Defiance, died Friday, along with his mother, Sandra, in a traffic accident.
He was the son of Arnold and Sandra Sears, Defiance. He worked for several firms, including Carson Industries, and attended Amazing Grace Baptist Church.
Surviving are his father; a sister, Amanda Lovejoy; his fiancee, Misty; grandparents, Howard and Bertha Griffith and Helen McTurk; and many stepbrothers and stepsisters.
Also preceding him in death was a grandfather, Gordon Sears.
Joint services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Biehl-Malone Funeral Home, Swanton. Burial is private. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
Steven Carpenter
Steven W. Carpenter, 42, Defiance, died at 8:35 p.m. Thursday in Harborside Healthcare.
He was born Aug. 7, 1959, in 29 Palms, Calif., the son of Bernard and Mary (Hoffman) Carpenter. He worked at Frozen Specialties, Archbold.
Surviving are his parents, Defiance; two brothers, Michael of Arlington, Texas, and Robert, Defiance; and two sisters, Pamela Blyth of Toledo and Mrs. Richard (Debra) Adams, Cecil.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Bernard and Mildred Carpenter and Walter and Iva Hoffman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Rev. Max Begley officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
Janet Deitrick
Janet K. Deitrick, 54, Defiance, died at 3.33 a.m. Friday in Toledo Hospital.
She was born March 18, 1947, in Lebanon, Pa., the daughter of Charles and Marilyn (Young) Johnston. In 1966, she married
Randal Deitrick, who died in 1973. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, VFW Post 3360 ladies auxiliary and worked as licensed practical nurse at Harborside Healthcare Center.
Surviving are a son, Randy, Defiance; a daughter, Mrs. John (Julie) Dunlap, Defiance; two brothers, John Johnston of Jewell and James Johnston, Defiance; a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Jennifer) Dockery, Defiance; and four grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; and a sister, Joan Johnston.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, with Father Tim Kummerer officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be today from 2-9 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance.
Preferred memorials are to the American Diabetic Foundation or American Kidney Association.
Everett Wann
ANTWERP - Everett (Gene) Wann, 74, Antwerp, died in his home Thursday.
He was born March 10, 1927, in Pioneer, the son of Everett and Pauline (Null) Wann. In 1948, he married
Alice Rogers, who died in 1994. A self-employed welder, he worked at Chessman Trucking Co., Fort Recovery, where he retired. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the US Army Medical Corp. He was a member of Hicksville American Legion Post 680, VFW, AMVETS and DAV.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon of Hicksville and Cindy Fraley, Bucyrus; four sons, Bruce of Barling, Ark., Dennis of Antwerp, Charles of Hicksville and Andrew, Angola, Ind.; a brother, Harold, Antwerp; and 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Claren.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday in Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Pastor James Martenies officiating. Military services conducted by Hicksville American Legion Post 680 and VFW will immediately follow. Burial will be in Scipio cemetery at a later date. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services Monday in the funeral home.
Lucinda Karcher
COLUMBUS GROVE - Lucinda M. Karcher, 84, Columbus Grove, died at 6:25 p.m. Thursday in St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born Aug. 26, 1917, in Cloverdale, the daughter of Isadore and Eleanora (Blankemeyer) German. In 1937, she married
Ronald Karcher Sr., who died in 1976. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Anthony Church, Columbus Grove, and its CLC and altar rosary society. She was a member of Columbus Grove American Legion Auxiliary, where she serve as treasurer for more than 25 years, volunteered at the Lord's Pantry, Columbus Grove, and was instrumental in starting the Columbus Grove Senior Citizens.
Surviving are five sons, Joseph of Salina, Kan., Norman of Napoleon, Ronald Jr. of Ava, Mo., and Paul and James, both of Columbus Grove; five daughters, Dorothy Maag of Continental, Mrs. Jerry (Mary Ann) Mulligan of Kenton, Ruth Hottinger of Thornville, Mrs. Dave (Rose) Myers of Columbus Grove and Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Riggs Jr., St. Mary's; four brothers, Leonard German of Port Charlotte, Fla., Robert German of Pandora, Karl German of Ottawa and Paul German, Glandorf; three sisters, Rita Phipps of Cleveland, Mary Lou Stupak of Cincinnati and Ruth Ann Maag, Ottawa; and 40 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three sons, John, Charles and Jerome; two brothers, Victor and Ambrose German; a sister, Agnes Gossard; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the church with Father John Herber officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. today in Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, with a scripture service at 8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to St. Anthony's School endowment fund.
Rose Verhoff
HOLGATE - Rose K. Verhoff, 88, Holgate, died Friday morning in Calvary Manor Nursing Home, Glandorf.
She was born Dec. 9, 1913, in New Weston, the daughter of John and Mary (Guggenbiller) Schnitz. In 1934, she married
Cletus Verhoff, who died in 1971. She was a cook at Holgate Nursing Home for 17 years and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Holgate.
Surviving are two daughters, Madonna Geithmann of Toledo and Kathy Schwab, New Bavaria; two sons, Paul and Robert, both of Holgate; two sisters, Florentine Gehle and Anna Pottkotter, both of Coldwater; a brother, Bernard Schnitz, Coldwater; and 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Pauline Kerner.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Father Stephen Stanbery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. today and from 2-9 p.m. Monday in Snyder Funeral Home, Holgate. A wake service will be at 8 p.m. Monday.
Preferred memorials are to Henry County Cancer Society, the church or Putnam County Hospice.
Flo Holzer
NAPOLEON - Flo A. Holzer, 91, Napoleon, died Friday morning in Lutheran Home.
She was born March 5, 1910, in Henry County, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Jaekle) McMillen. She married
August Holzer Sr., who died in 1982. She was a graduate of College of Wooster and a teacher in the Napoleon and Hamler school systems, retiring in 1976. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Napoleon, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Order of Eastern Star, Deshler, a life member of Ohio Retired Teachers' Association, Henry County Retired Teachers' Association and Sheffield Literary Society.
Surviving is a son, August Jr., Napoleon; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Harold and Vernon McMillen; and a sister, Edna deBlois.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, with Rev. Gavin Pitt Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance County. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, with a Beta Zeta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Memorial Service at 7 p.m.

Wendy Stephey
NAPOLEON - Wendy R. Stephey, 17, Napoleon, died Friday evening as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born Feb. 4, 1984, the daughter of Wayne Stephey and Mrs. Tom (Karen) Nagel. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon, a Napoleon High School senior, a majorette, and had been accepted into International Business School, Fort Wayne. She worked at Pizza Hut.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather; three brothers, Nick of Holgate, Tony of Napoleon and Thomas Nagel, Napoleon; three sisters, Mrs. Dan (Jill) McMurray of Taylor, Mich., and Tara and Kaitlyn Nagel, both of Napoleon.
Preceding her in death was her father.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church with Pastor Norman Koy officiating. Burial is in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday in Snyder Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon, and an hour prior to services Wednesday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to Napoleon High School Band or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Robert Packard
Former Defiance resident Robert Bernard Packard, 74, Portsmouth, died Thursday in his home after an extended illness.
He was born March 5, 1927, the son of Carey and Emma (Steinmeir) Packard. In 1947, he married
Jean Derringer, who died in 1982. He married
Evaline Black, who survives. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the U.S.S. Lexington in the South Pacific. He retired from food service equipment sales and facility design in 1986 and moved to Texas. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, VFW post and several professional sales organizations.
Also surviving are two daughters Mrs. Terry (Cindy) Stidham of Eustace, Texas, and Mrs. Jim (Cheryl) Addington, Portsmouth; a brother, Daniel, Kokomo, Ind.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date following cremation.
Preferred memorials are to Kidney Foundation or American Diabetic Association.
