Liborio Scibetta
Word was received of the Dec. 23 death of Liborio T. Scibetta, 87, Defiance, at Laurels of Defiance.
He was born March 8, 1914, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of Liborio and Concettina (Lumia) Scibetta. In 1941, he married Catherine Colarusso, who survives. He had lived in Williamsville, N.Y., and was an industrial engineer at Bell Aircraft in New York, retiring after 30 years. He had also been a former social worker, teacher and personnel manager, as well as an employment interviewer with the department of human services in New York.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Carol) Goeckel, Defiance; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Marianna Giancarlo and Genevieve Scibetta.
There were no services or visitation. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Preferred memorials are to the Defiance Charitable and Educational Foundation in care of Defiance Clinic.

Virginia Brenner
CANTON, Mich. - Virginia C. Brenner, 82, Canton, died at 6:25 a.m. Sunday in her home.
She was born May 3, 1919, in Defiance, the daughter of Leo and Cora (Hessleschwardt) Batt. In 1939, she married Raymond Brenner, who survives. She was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Plymouth.
Also surviving are two sons, James and Daniel, both of Canton; a daughter, Elaine DeLeonard, Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Richard Batt, Somerset, Mass.; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Arthur and Kenneth Batt.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery, Defiance County. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice of Washtenaw, 806 Airport Blvd., Ann Arbor, Mich. 48108.

Alnora Troyer
CONTINENTAL - Alnora Troyer, 89, Continental, died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday in Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. Arrangements are pending at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental.

Cornelius Shumaker
NAPOLEON - Cornelius (Corney) Shumaker, 86, Napoleon, died Saturday morning in Oak Grove Quality Care Nursing Center, Deshler.
He was born May 1, 1915, in Napoleon, the son of Harley and Mary (Hefflinger) Shumaker. In 1946, he married Ila Geitgey, who survives. He was a retired farmer and truck driver, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 300, VFW Post 8218, all of Napoleon, and Henry County Farm Bureau.
Also surviving are three sons, Jack of Marengo, Gary of Napoleon and Gale, Liberty Center; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Diane) Roehl of Montpelier, Mrs. Phil (Linda) Johnson of McClure and Mary, Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, Harry, Jim, Chancey and Clyde; and seven sisters, Edith Savage, Loretta Farison, Marjorie McGee, Bess Warner, Hazel Sausser, Faye Sweatland and Daisy Patrick.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, with Rev. Michael Westbay officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Hill cemetery mausoleum, Napoleon, with military rites accorded by joint veterans' posts of Napoleon. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. today.
Preferred memorials are to Alzheimer's Foundation of Northwest Ohio, Henry County Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Verma Wahl
Verma M. Wahl, 78, Defiance, died at 2:45 a.m. Friday in her home.
She was born Nov. 14, 1923, in New Salem, N.D., the daughter of Henry and Hattie (Gunder) Baumann. In 1945, she married Marvin Wahl, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Also surviving are two daughters, Joanne of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Charlie (Karen) Adair-Dulaney, Defiance; a son, John, Duluth, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Ed Baumann; and three sisters, Myrtle Luccassie, Lulu Herman and a twin, Vernice Nunn.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Rev. David Brant officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice the Caring Way of Defiance or to the church.

Jennifer Wahl
DELUTH, Ga. - Jennifer Ann Wahl, 44, Deluth, died Thursday.
She married John Wahl Sr., who survives. She was a homemaker and member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Norcross.
Also surviving are five sons, John Jr., student at University of West Georgia, Zachary, Isaac, Caleb and Joshua, all of Duluth; three daughters, Meaghan, student at University of Georgia, Gabrielle and Sophia, both of Duluth; father and stepmother, Jack and Norma Marek, Victorville, Calif.; two brothers, Michael Marek of Victorville, Calif., and John Marek, Paradise, Calif.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday in the church. Burial is at Peachtree Memorial Park, Norcross. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. today at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home, Norcross.
Preferred memorials are to the Wahl family assistance fund, c/o Gwinnett Community Bank, 2775 Buford Highway., Duluth, Ga. 30096.

Dorothy Lawson
Dorothy J. Lawson, 82, Defiance, died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday in Defiance Hospital.
She was born Aug. 5, 1919, in Defiance, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Marsh) Diehl. In 1937, she married Thomas Lawson, who died in 1979. She was co-owner of Lawson's Pro Hardware, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a heart fund captain and volunteer for March of Dimes and American Cancer Society.
Surviving are two sons, David of Paulding, and Terrence, Defiance; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Josie) Dowler and Mrs. Reagan (Nan) Weakley, both of Defiance; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Weber, Helen, Ga.; and six grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a great-stepgrandchild.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Charles and Paul Diehl; and a sister, Marie Navin.
Private services will be held Monday at the church with Father Tim Kummerer officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Defiance. There will be no visitation.
Preferred memorials are to the church or Defiance Humane Society.
Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, handled arrangements.

Leona Bunsold
Leona L. Bunsold, 85, Defiance, died Friday at 2:14 p.m. in Defiance Hospital.
She was born July 28, 1916, in Wauseon, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Dehnbostel) Ruetz. In 1943, she married Elmer Bunsold, who died in 1988. She worked at Kircher's Flowers for 30 years, was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance, and its ladies aid, LWML, Quilting Ladies, Jolly Mixers and Altar Guild.
Surviving are two sons, Richard of Berkelen, Ill., and Dennis, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Dorothy Ruetz of Wauseon and Helen Krieger, Temperance, Mich.; and a granddaughter.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Harold, Norman and William Ruetz; and a sister, Mildred Goff.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. Donald Luhring officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church or American Institute For Cancer Research.
Handling arrangements is Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance.

Martha Martin
CONTINENTAL - Martha Martin, 98, Continental, died Thursday in her son's home in Monroe, N.C.
She was born June 1, 1903, in Ramea, Newfoundland, Canada, the daughter of George and Caroline Kendall. In 1925, she married Harry Collier, who died in 1930. In 1931, she married Edwin Heidenescher, who died in 1943. In 1962, she married John Martin, who died in 1976. She was a telephone operator for 12 years in Cloverdale.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Bill (E. Lorraine) Niese of Van Wert, Juanita Collier of Continental, Mrs. Eddie (Thelma) Randolph of Painesville and Mrs. Jerry (Ruth) Bidlack of East Aurora, N.Y.; four sons, Leonard Collier of Continental, Edwin Heidenescher of Omaha, Neb., Henry Heidenescher of Monroe, N.C., and George Heidenescher, Dayton; two stepsons, Otmer Heidenescher of Adrian, Mich., and Joseph Heidenescher, Dupont; a stepdaughter, Mary Saum, Delphos; two brothers, Kenneth and Gordon Kendall, both of Twillingate, Newfoundland; and 26 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and many stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three stepsons, Aloysius and Melvin Heidenescher and Paul Martin; a stepdaughter, Luella Robnolte; and three brothers and four sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ Lutheran Church, Continental, with Alice Janick officiating. Burial will be in Cascade cemetery, Cloverdale. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and Monday in Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental. Funeral arrangements were handled by Davis Funeral Home, Monroe, N.C.

Martha Begley
DOTHAN, Ala. - Word was received of the Dec. 31 death of former Payne resident Martha Ann Begley, 61, Dothan, Ala., in Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
She was born June 5, 1940, in Defiance, the daughter of Francis and Opal Pessefall. In 1963, she married Thomas Lantow, who died in 1975. She later married Arnold Begley, who survives. She worked as a caregiver in elder care at Harmony Home.
Also surviving are two sons, Chad Lantow of Latty and Shane, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a daughter, Gena Lantow, Dothan; six brothers, Leo and Mike Pessefall, both of Defiance, Ed Pessefall of Sherwood, Dan Pessefall of Goshen, Ind., Jim Pessefall of Oakwood and Steve Pessefall, Paulding; two sisters, Virginia Warner of Sylvania and Betty Koehler, Fort Wayne; and three grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; and a brother, Chuck Pessefall.
Arrangements were handled by Byrd Funeral Home, Dothan.

Bradley Phillips
LAGRANGE, Ind. - Bradley Lee Phillips, 41, LaGrange, died Friday in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
He was born Nov. 22, 1960, in Napoleon, the son of Robert and Bev (Thorn) Phillips. In 1989, he married Valerie Sobecki, who survives. He was a computer programmer/engineer at APW Inc., Monon, and former employee of Continental Accessories, Sturgis, Mich. He was a 1978 Liberty Center High School graduate, a University of Toledo graduate and member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.
Also surviving are two daughters, Phoebe and Hannah; his parents, Liberty Center; a brother, Gary, Waterville; a sister, Cheryl, Fort Wayne; and a grandmother, Elizabeth Thorn, Liberty Center.
Preceding him in death were grandparents, Vance Thorn and James and Gladys Phillips.
Services will be at a later date. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Monday in Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center.
Preferred memorials are in care of the family.
