Barbara E. Shroyer, 79, Defiance, died at 1:40 a.m. today in Laurels of Defiance. Among survivors are two sons, Tony and Robert. Arrangements are pending at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home.
Margene Weller
CONTINENTAL - Former Continental resident Margene Weller, 85, died at 2:51 p.m. Monday in Lima Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental.
Alnora Troyer
CONTINENTAL - Alnora Troyer, 89, Continental, died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday in Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.
She was born Feb. 12, 1912, in Continental, the daughter of Steward and Edith (Dangler) Brower. In 1930, she married
Harold Troyer, who died in 1998. She was a retired farmer and a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Continental.
Surviving are a sister, Mabel Bunker, Sun City West, Ariz.; and a brother, Melvin Brower, Petaluma, Calif.
Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Anna; a brother, Kenneth Brower; and a sister, Florence Rohers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, with Rev. Greg Wack officiating. Burial will be in Monroe cemetery, Continental. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
John Pahl
HOLGATE - John (Jack) D. Pahl, 62, Holgate, died at 2:13 p.m. Monday in his home.
He was born Sept. 26, 1939, in Defiance, the son of Urban and Mary (Dunscomb) Pahl. In 1964, he married
Carolyn Gerken, who survives. He was a farmer and a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, rural Defiance.
Also surviving are three sons, Robert of Napoleon, James of Holgate and Jeffery, Defiance; two brothers, Dan of Defiance and Tony, Holgate; a sister, Mrs. Larry (Ann) Rankin, Defiance; and seven grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Kenneth; and a grandson.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the church with Rev. David Koenig officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Filling Memorial Home of Mercy in Napoleon, the church or Cancer Care of Defiance.
Paul Mattern
LEIPSIC - Paul Eugene Mattern, 79, Leipsic, died at 4:40 p.m. Sunday in SCCI Hospital, Lima.
He was born July 17, 1922, in East Sparta, the son of Rev. Asa and Mary (Miller) Mattern. In 1946, he married
Agnes Merillat, who survives. He formerly owned Millersburg Cab Co. and was the retired owner of Mattern Brothers Home Improvement since 1955. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, a life member of Leipsic VFW Post and a member of Leipsic American Legion Post, Lima Chapter 25 Good Sam Camping Club and First Christian Church, Leipsic.
Also surviving are three sons, Ronald of Greenville, S.C., James of Leipsic and Charles, Cedar Edge, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Doug (Patsy) Spring, Lima; two brothers, Robert of Cadillac, Mich., and Charles, Leipsic; a sister, Mrs. Herbert (Ruthada) Johnson, Kokomo, Ind.; and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Chalmers and John.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with Rev. Tim Eding officiating. There will be no visitation. Handling arrangements is Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic.
Preferred memorials are to the church or Lima Memorial Hospital's open heart unit.
Edward Kurtz
MONTPELIER - Edward Joseph Kurtz, 51, rural Montpelier, died at 1 p.m. Sunday in his home after an extended illness.
He was born March 1, 1950, near Edgerton, the son of Herman and Clara (Skudlark) Kurtz. In 1976, he married
Barbara Throne, who survives. He formerly worked at Challenge Cook Brothers, Bryan, and was a U.S. Army and Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Also surviving are five sons, John and Joseph, both with the U.S. Navy, and Robert, Dale and Philip, all of Montpelier; five sisters, Ann Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Betty Hebel of Elba, Mich., Connie Wilson of Grand Ledge, Mich., Sue Mills of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Teresa Mencarelli, Comstock Park, Mich.; and two brothers, Caleb and Mike, both of West Unity.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a sister, Debra.
Services will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Krill Funeral Home, Edon, with Father Frederick Duschl officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Edon American Legion Post 662. Visitation is from noon-5 p.m. Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
Lois Krill
MONTPELIER - Lois M. Krill. 84, rural Montpelier, died this morning in her home.
She was born July 20, 1917, in Edgerton, the daughter of Charles and Dora (Williamson) Callender. In 1941, she married
Willis Krill, who died in 1997. She was a homemaker and a member of Melbern United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Larry, Montpelier; a brother, Keith Callender, St. Louis, Mo.; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Gordon, Edward and Clifton Callender; and a sister, Lucille Mast.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, with Pastor Diane Schaffner officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Edgerton. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to the church.

NAPOLEON - Virginia L. Russell, 81, Napoleon, died Monday afternoon in Toledo Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.
Lloyd Whirrett
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Paulding native Lloyd (Charlie) Whirrett, 90, Boca Raton, died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday in Fountains Nursing Home, Boca Raton.
He was born Aug. 5, 1911, in Paulding, the son of David and Susie (Point) Whirrett. In 1935, he married
Naomi White, who died in 1998. He was a mechanic at several garages in Paulding and retired in 1987 from Paulding-Putnam Electric Co., Paulding. He was a member of John Paulding Historical Society and First Presbyterian Church, both of Paulding.
Surviving are a son, David, Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Beverly Reinhart of Tempe, Ariz., and Mrs. Dennis (Sally) Glick, Boca Raton; and six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers and four sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with Rev. David Meriwether officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul cemetery, Paulding. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday in Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Gary Armstrong
PAYNE - Gary L. Armstrong, 66, Payne, died Saturday in South Bay Hospital, Sun City, Fla.
He was born Dec. 15, 1935, in Elwood, Ind., the son of Ted and Cleo (Barker) Armstrong. In 1973, he married
Phyllis Miller, who survives. He was the proprietor of Armstrong Implement Co., Payne, retiring in 1999, and a member of Flat Rock Lodge 580 F&AM and St. Paul United Methodist Church, both of Payne.
Also surviving are a son, Bruce, Fort Wayne; two daughters, Marilyn Miatke of West LaFayette, Ind., and Maria Cuney, Grabill, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Rager, Payne; a brother, Dale, Columbus; a sister, Anita Young, Payne; and eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the church with Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Wiltsie cemetery, Payne. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Wednesday in Slade Funeral Home, Payne.

Delores Fisher
VANCOUVER, Wash. - Defiance native Delores K. Fisher, 49, Vancouver, died Friday in her home.
She was born Feb. 15, 1952, in Defiance. In 1988, she married
Donald Fisher, who survives. She was an adult family home provider, past president of Washington State Residential Care Council, a member of Pfaff Club and National Rifle Association and a 4-H leader.
Also surviving are a daughter, Dorena, Vancouver; a son, Matthew Eickhoff, Indianapolis; and three sisters, Kathleen Meyer of Cincinnati, Ruth Ann Simpson of Tampa, Fla., and Eileen Kihm, Fort Meyers, Fla.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver. Burial will be private.

David Poletta
WEST UNITY - David L. Poletta, 42, West Unity, died at 4:50 a.m. Monday in Community Hospitals of Williams County-Bryan.
He was born Aug. 14, 1959, in Henderson, Nev., the son of Robert and Janet (Driftmyer) Poletta. In 1984, he married
Pamela DeTray, who survives. He received an associate's degree in Bible studies from Vision Christian Bible College, Montpelier, and was a former associate pastor at Soul's Harbor Church, Montpelier. He was a member of Montpelier Ministerial Association and formerly worked at the Pulaski Farm Market.
Also surviving are his father, Las Vegas; his mother, Montpelier; two sons, David and Josiah, at home; a daughter, Esther, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Jamie) Lutz of Montpelier and Mrs. Jesse (Cathy) Godsey, Columbia; and his grandmother, Margaret Driftmyer, Bay Village.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Soul's Harbor Church, Montpelier, with Rev. Chuck Sturgeon officiating. Burial will be in Shiffler cemetery, Bryan. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Preferred memorials are to the children.

Services for Dorothy J. Lawson were held Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Tim Kummerer officiating. Organist was Jim Dunham. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeff and Steve Lawson, Stanley Cook, Charles Lero, James Batoha and Scott Horton. Honorary pallbearer was Allen Cook. Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home handled arrangements.
