Frank Arps Jr.
Frank R. Arps Jr., 69, Defiance, died at 9:05 (Ind. time) Tuesday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He was born April 12, 1931, in Henry County, the son of Frank Sr. and Grace (Bolinger) Arps. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a machine operator at Johns Manville, retiring in 1995.
Surviving are his former wife, Ruth Arps, Defiance; three daughters, Penny of Malinta, Elizabeth of Bryan and Mary, Defiance; a sister, Kathryn Walter, Ekert, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Davis officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery, Napoleon, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 3360. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday.
Preferred memorials are to Defiance Senior Center or Defiance County Humane Society.
Michael Rosebrook
DESHLER - Michael Donald Rosebrook, 24, Deshler, died at 3:39 p.m. Tuesday in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay, from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident.
He was born June 6, 1976, in Bowling Green, the son of Donald and Bonnie (Bennett) Rosebrook. He graduated from McComb High School in 1994, was as a stock handler at Wal-Mart, Findlay, and a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler.
Surviving are his parents, Deshler; two brothers, Daniel and Andrew, both of Deshler; a sister, Kelly, Deshler; and grandparents, Doyle and Florence Bennett, and Eugene and Wilma Rosebrook, all of Deshler.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with Rev. John Clausen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. Friday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler.
Preferred memorials are to Findlay's Century Health of Hancock County or a charity of the donor's choice.
J. Russell McKarns
WEST UNITY - J. Russell (Stubby) McKarns, 88, West Unity, died Wednesday morning at Community Hospitals of Williams County-Bryan.
He was born March 12, 1912, in Williams County's Superior Township, the son of Charles and Clela (Smith) McKarns. In 1936, he married
Florence Werder, who survives. He played on area baseball teams and was a salesman of building maintenance supplies. The retired farmer was a member of West Unity United Methodist Church, a 4-H leader and former Brady Township trustee. He was also active with Williams County Swine Producers, Northwest Ohio Guernsey Association and Williams County's agriculture policy committee.
Also surviving are two sons, James of San Mateo, Calif., and John, Libertyville, Ill.; a brother, Hobart, Bryan; a sister, Marguerite Orewiler, West Unity; and two grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Donald; and two sisters, Ruth Ealy and Mabel Rupp.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in Hollingshead Funeral Home, with Rev. Sue Babb officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Shiffler cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Sunday.
Preferred memorials are to the church or Bryan Area Foundation.
Mark Talicska
BRYAN - Mark A. Talicska, 50, Bryan, died Wednesday morning at Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
He was born April 1, 1950, in Bay City, Mich., the son of Andrew and Dorothy (Perry) Talicska. In 1971, he married
Barbara McDonald, who survives. He was a journeyman electrician with GM Powertrain for 18 years in Saginaw, Mich., and 12 years in Defiance. He was president of the supervisory committee at Employees Own Credit Union and had been involved with many productions of Williams County Playhouse as an actor, director and producer for 11 years.
Also surviving are his parents, Auburn, Mich.; three sons, Matthew of Bowling Green, Adam of Dayton and Andrew, at home; and three brothers, Perry of Plainwell, Mich., Gregory of Auburn and David, Midland, Mich.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, James and Joseph.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Bryan, with Revs. Richard Buchsteiner and Charles Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Shiffler cemetery. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and from 2-8 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. in Rice Funeral Home, Bryan.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
Rose Graves
GRABILL, Ind. - Rose M. Graves, 62, Grabill, died at 8:42 p.m. (Ind. time) Tuesday in Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne.
She was born Dec. 12, 1937, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Homer and Luella (Kerns) Shanyfelt. She married
Donald Graves, who survives. She was a homemaker.
Also surviving are four daughters, Christine Carper of Grabill, Becky Hoover of Spencerville, Penny Lengacher of Leo and Cathy Laub, St. Joe; two brothers, Henry Shanyfelt of Auburn and Herbert Shanyfelt, Fort Wayne; five sisters, Doris Blohm of Saginaw, Mich., Betty Lohm, Fremont, Frances Reinders and Beverly Dibble, both of Fort Wayne, and Barbara Houser, Auburn; and 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were six brothers and sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, with Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Maumee cemetery, Antwerp. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today.

William Miller
LATTY - William E. Miller, 66, Latty, died at noon Saturday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident in Paulding County.
He was born May 27, 1934, in Cincinnati, the son of Earl and Ida (Pittman) Miller. In 1956, he married
Donna Ray, who survives. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a heavy equipment operator for Lafarge Corp., Paulding, retiring in 1997 after 40 years. He was a life member of Paulding VFW Post 587, a member of Friends United Methodist Church in Latty, Paulding County REACT and a volunteer at Quaker Haven Camp, Syracuse, Ind.
Also surviving are a son, David, Latty; two daughters, Mrs. William (Susan) Deatrick of Cecil, and Judy Engle, Van Wert; a brother, Philip, Cincinnati; a half brother, Dasil Ervin, Cincinnati; two half sisters, Ovalene Deaton of Norwood and LaFern Phelps, Somerset, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother, Eugene.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with Rev. Wayne Karges officiating. Burial will be in Hedges cemetery, Jackson Township, with military rites by VFW Post 587. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Friday and after 8 a.m. Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to the church or Quaker Haven Camp.
Royce Lano Jr.
FORT WAYNE - Royce C. Lano Jr., 78, Fort Wayne, died Tuesday at his residence.
He was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Defiance, the son of Royce Sr. and Anne (McDonald) Lano. In 1952, he married
Drayma Rucker, who died in 1988. He was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran, a conductor with Norfolk and Western Railroad for 43 years and a member of Defiance VFW Post 3360 and Defiance Eagles Aerie 372.
Surviving are a son, Royce III, Fort Wayne; a daughter, Martha Shaw, Fort Wayne; a brother, Richard, Defiance; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. (Ind. time) Friday in D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, with Rev. Ralph Thornton officiating. Burial will be in Lindenwood cemetery, Fort Wayne, with military rites conducted. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. (Ind. time) today.
Nathaniel Hancock
Nathaniel Raymond Hancock, 2 months, Defiance, died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday in Defiance Hospital.
He was born Aug. 9, 1999, in Defiance, the son of John and Carlissa (Crumit) Hancock, who survive.
Also surviving are a sister, Katherine, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hancock of Defiance, and Jim and Minnie Crumit, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and great-grandparents, Mapha Schaadt of Cecil and John and Betty Stewart, Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Emily, in infancy.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be an hour prior to services at the church. Handling arrangements is Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
Sara Rutter
DESHLER - Sara (Sally) L. Rutter, 74, Deshler, died at 4:10 p.m. Thursday in Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green.
She was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Detroit, the daughter of Lloyd and Ada (Scheid) Greiner. In 1946, she married
Donald Rutter, who survives. She worked for 22 years in the Patrick Henry Schools cafeteria and was a member of Deshler United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women. She had also been a former secretary of Bartlow Township Historical Society.
Also surviving are three sons, Allen of Lambertville, Mich., Ronald of Deshler and Douglas, Leipsic; a daughter, Marsha Contreras, Bloomdale; a brother, Charles Greiner, Toledo; and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, with Rev. R.L. Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Deshler. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Sunday.

Eugene Zaerr
ARCHBOLD - Eugene J. Zaerr, 64, Archbold, died Wednesday evening at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 18, 1935, near Archbold, the son of Raymond and Inez (Short) Zaerr. In 1957, he married
Arlene Beck, who survives. He was a lifelong farmer, a bus driver for Archbold area schools for nine years and a member of Central Mennonite Church, Archbold.
Also surviving are a son, Ron, Archbold; two daughters, Diane of Elkhart, Ind. and Mrs. Brian (Rachel) Hook, St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Maurice of Archbold and Wayne, Swanton; a sister, Mrs. Dale (Vienna) Fielitz, Archbold; and five grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a son, Steven; and a brother, Curtis.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the church with Revs. Wayne Pipkin and Jeffrey Smith officiating. Burial will be in Pettisville cemetery. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. today and from 2-9 p.m. Saturday in Short Funeral Home, Archbold.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice of Fulton and Williams Counties.
Roland Hoppe
NAPOLEON - Roland G. Hoppe, 80, Napoleon, died at 3:50 a.m. today in Harborside Healthcare, Defiance.
He was born June 14, 1919, in Columbia, Mich., the son of William and Martha (Ewald) Hoppe. He married
Marjorie Hyslop, who preceded him in death. He was a carpenter in Saginaw, Mich., with Union Local 334, and a member of Eagles Aerie 2380, Vassar, Mich.
Surviving are a son, Mrs. Richard (Roxanne) Maxson, Defiance; two stepdaughters, Lillian Adams of Cass City, Mich., and Ruby Rice Clark, Lapleer, Mich.; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Handling arrangements is Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home.
