Amelia Rodriguez
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Word was received of the Feb. 3 death of Amelia A. Rodriguez, 78, Corpus Christi.
She married
Hilario Rodriguez Sr., who preceded her in death. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
Surviving are two sons, Israel of Defiance and Hilario Jr., Litchfield, Mich.; five daughters, Rosenda Garza of Corpus Christi, Dalia Cramer, Mrs. Roy (Lydia) Rodriguez and Mary Barrera, all of Defiance, and Mrs. Raymond (Betty Jean) Aranda, San Antonio; a brother, Agapito Alvarado, Continental; a sister, Clotilde Martinez, Mercedez; and 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were six grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 7 at Seaside Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.
Pearl Lively
CRAB ORCHARD, W.Va. - Pearl Olie Lively, 88, Crab Orchard, died Feb. 21 in Beckley.
She was born May 20, 1911, in Ballangee, the daughter of William and Mary (Campbell) Nelson. She married
William Lively, who died in 1992. She was a homemaker and member of Glenview Independent Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are two sons, Billy Joe of Sherwood and David, Daniels; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Lena) Gunther of MacArthur, and Mrs. Buddy (Norma) Foreman, Crab Orchard; a sister, Mrs. Harry (Mildred) Glover, Atwater, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Frank, Richard, Donald and Leonard Nelson.
Services were held Feb. 23 at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley.
James Acton
James B. Acton, 48, Defiance, died at 12:25 p.m. Saturday in his residence.
He was born Sept. 19, 1951, in Defiance, the son of Tanner and Dollie (Fair) Acton. In 1979, he married
Diane Ponds, who survives. He worked at Timcor for 18 years and was a 1970 Defiance High School graduate. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association and National Trapper Association and a social member of VFW Post 3360.
Also surviving are his parents, Defiance; a daughter, Erica, Defiance; a brother, Terry, Defiance; a sister, Mrs. Jim (Vicki) Rice, Defiance; and a grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Yenser officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
William Horner
OAKWOOD - William Nelson Horner, 82, Oakwood, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday in his residence.
He was born March 10, 1918, in Oakwood, the son of Durl and Blanche (Burt) Horner. In 1938, he married
MaDonna Johnson, who died in 1984. He was a farmer and worked at Johns Manville, Defiance, until retiring in 1984. He was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Oakwood, where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of Charloe Grange, Auglaize Valley Kiwanis Club and had been a 4-H advisor.
Surviving are a son, William, Holgate; two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Janice) Donaldson of Continental, and Mrs. Gary (Judy) Frederick, Oakwood; eight sisters, Leota Roberts of Zephyrhills, Fla., Helen Johnson of Oakwood, Hazel Sierer and Nancy Noffsinger, both of Paulding, Lois Schweigel and Joan Bowman, both of Fort Wayne, Ruby Buckmaster of Ashley, Ind., and Jeannette Dimock, Defiance; and 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Alice Heidepriem; a sister, Carolyn Heare; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the church with Rev. Robert Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Hedges cemetery, Broughton. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Oakwood, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church building fund or Home Health of Paulding County Hospital.
Delmar Benecke
NAPOLEON - Delmar (Jack) F. Benecke, 86, Napoleon, died Saturday evening at Toledo Hospital.
He was born Sept. 28, 1913, in Waynesville, the son of William and Dorothy (Schweinhagen) Benecke. In 1940, he married
Marie Michaelis, who died in 1968. In 1972, he married
Vera Franz, who survives. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and owned and operated Benecke Hardware and Lumber Co. in Ridgeville Corners from 1946-1960 and Benecke Pro Hardware, Wauseon, from 1960-1975. He was a former member of Wauseon Chamber of Commerce and St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon, holding various positions at both churches. He was also a life member of Bert G. Taylor American Legion Post 300, Napoleon.
Also surviving are two sons, Dexter of Ridgeville Corners and Neal, Napoleon; a daughter, Mrs. Denny (Beverly) Meyer, Archbold; a stepson, Larry Sonnenberg, Dayton; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Jim (Ila Rose) Storrer, Archbold; a sister, Novella Reed, Holgate; and eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren and nine great-stepgrandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a stepson, Lyle Sonnenberg; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Norm Koy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Glenn Thayer
BROOKFIELD, Wis. - Former Defiance resident Glenn R.P. Thayer, 85, Brookfield, died Thursday at his residence.
He was born Aug. 25, 1914, in Wyoming Township, Mich., the son of Glen and Blanche (Roberts) Thayer. He married
Ruth VanCampen, who preceded him in death. He was the former owner and manager of WONW, Defiance.
Surviving are two sons, Glenn and Perry; a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Drue) Steele; and grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Becker Ritter Funeral Home, Brookfield. Burial will be in Grand Rapids, Mich. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to Defiance's First Presbyterian Church.
William Miller
LATTY - William E. Miller, 66, Latty, died Saturday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident in Paulding County. Among survivors is his wife, Donna. Arrangements are pending at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.
Lulu Schooley
ANTWERP - Lulu Fay Schooley, 89, Antwerp, died at 5:20 a.m. today at Fountain Manor Care Center, Hicksville.
She was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Warsaw, Ind., the daughter of Moses and Ellen (Roose) Hershberger. In 1935, she married
Ralph Schooley, who died in 1992. She worked at Ray's Restaurant, Antwerp, and was a member of Payne Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Conners of Coldwater, Mich., and Caroljean Lee, Ashland; and four grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were 10 brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, with Rev. Michael Harper. Burial will be in Maumee cemetery, Antwerp. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to the Diabetes Foundation.
Orville Babcock
Orville L. Babcock, 75, Highland Township, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Harborside Healthcare.
He was born March 15, 1924, in Liberty Center, the son of Rollie and Emma (Quantz) Babcock. In 1947, he married
Esther Ordway, who died in 1984. He was a foreman at Dresser Industries, retiring in 1983 after 25 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a U.S Navy veteran serving from 1943-46.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas of Defiance and Ronald, Napoleon; two daughters, Mrs. Ronnie (Carolyn) Cox of Lima and Mrs. Robert (Ellen) Zimmerman, Defiance; five sisters, Vernice Deller of Pinconning, Mich., Marie Keeler of Sylvania, Coral Kessler of Liberty Center and Jo Ann Williams and Lena Lange, both of Napoleon; and 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Warren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Luhring officiating. Burial will be in Ayersville cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
Zela Nofziger
ARCHBOLD - Former Wauseon resident Zela M. Nofziger, 94, Archbold, died Sunday evening at Fairlawn Haven, Archbold.
She was born Sept. 25, 1905, near Stryker, the daughter of Peter and Barbara (Wyse) Graber. In 1930, she married
Jesse Nofziger, who died in 1989. She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Mennonite Church, Archbold. She and her husband were instrumental in church planting at Springfield Chapel, Holland.
Surviving are a son, David, Stillwater, Okla.; five daughters, Mrs. Dale (Patty) Short of Archbold, Mrs. Don (Mary) Chelgren of Federal Way, Wash., Mrs. Richard (Norma) Camp of Santa Monica, Calif., and Mrs. Dean (Janeth) Nofziger and Mrs. Jim (Mona) Sauder, both of Wauseon; and 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were an infant son, Bernard; and four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the church with Rev. Ron Guengerich officiating. Burial will precede services in Lockport cemetery, rural Stryker. Visitation is from 5-9:30 p.m. today and from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the church's fellowship hall. Short Funeral Home, Archbold, is in charge of arrangements.
Preferred memorials are to Mennonite Board of Missions or the church.
Terry Sweet
WOODBURN, Ind. - Terry G. Sweet, 56, Woodburn, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday in Harborside Healthcare, New Haven.
He was born July 9, 1943, in Maumee Township, Allen County, Ind., the son of Harold and Mildred (Ruppert) Sweet. A farmer, he also worked at Crook-Miller, Hicksville, for more than 16 years.
Surviving are four sisters, Wanda Moore of Wayne, Shirley Myers of Fort Wayne, Phyllis Timbrook of Hicksville and Bonnie Walton, Columbus; and three brothers, Harold and Richard, both of Woodburn, and Wayne, Hicksville.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Betty Schooley and Pauline Sweet; and a brother, Larry.
Private burial was in Diehl cemetery, Woodburn. Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, handled arrangements.
