Stephen Jones
ANTWERP - Stephen M. Jones, 16, Antwerp, died Thursday from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident.
He was born May 20, 1984, in Paulding, the son of Michael and Susan (Parrett) Jones. He was a student at Antwerp local schools where he was a member of its golf and baseball teams and honor roll. He was a member of Antwerp United Methodist Church and its youth group.
Surviving are his parents; a brother, Charlie, at home; grandparents, Charles and Marilyn Jones of Antwerp and William and Carol Parrett, Blue Rock; and a great-grandmother, Amy Patterson, Paulding.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Ketzler officiating. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery, Cecil. Visitation is an hour prior to services.
Preferred memorials are to Antwerp school's class of 2002.
Hugo Sonnenberg
HAMLER - Hugo C. Sonnenberg, 87, Hamler, died Friday at Northcrest Nursing Home, Napoleon.
He was born Feb. 11, 1913, in rural Holgate, the son of George and Sophia (Lange) Sonnenberg. In 1936, he married
Esther Hagen, who survives. He was a farmer and lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church, where he held various positions including church council, building committee of the education building and the men's club. He was also a member of Henry County Farm Bureau and its Clover Leaf Council and a board member of Soil Conservation Service.
Also surviving are two sons, Darwin of Hamler and Keith, Malinta; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Lila) Wernecke, Napoleon; three brothers, Victor of Holgate, Gilbert of Wauseon and Roger, Napoleon; two sisters, Mrs. Otto (Hulda) Hahn and Regina Germann, both of Napoleon; and 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Steven Knape officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. today at Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon and an hour prior to services in the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church, American Cancer Society's Henry County chapter or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Carl Ulman
PEMBERVILLE - Carl W. Ulman, 53, Pemberville, died Wednesday at his residence.
He was born Oct. 21, 1946, in Toledo, the son of Noah and Agnes (McCully) Ulman. In 1965, he married
Sharyn Linkey, who survives. He was a machinist at Sun Oil Refinery, Oregon.
Also surviving are his mother, Agnes Hartwig, Defiance, two daughters, Lorri Klopping of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Mike (Kim) Watson, Perrysburg; a brother, Forrest, Toledo; and a sister, Mrs. Jim (Susan) Adams, Defiance; a stepmother, June, Monroe, La.; and two stepbrothers, Ross Keiser of Chourant, La., and Jed Keiser, Swanton.
Preceding him in death was his father.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Marsh Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
Christine Gilson
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Former Wauseon resident Christine B. Gilson, 91, Salt Lake City, died Thursday at her daughter's home.
She was born May 20, 1909, in Wauseon, the daughter of Robert and Carrie (Hoare) Edgar. In 1930, she married
Carl Gilson, who died.
Surviving are a son, Robert, Delta; two daughters, Mrs. Gene (Lorene) Roose, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Robert (Virginia) McNaughton, Colorado and Arizona; a brother, John Edgar, Toledo; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Walter Edgar, and two great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held Monday in the chapel of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wauseon. A private burial will be in Wauseon Union cemetery. Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon, handled arrangements.
Jason LaMont
WAUSEON - Jason LaMont, 92, Wauseon, died Saturday morning at Fulton Manor.
He was born April 13, 1908, in Samaria, Mich., the son of Edwin and Carolyn (Osborn) LaMont. In 1937, he married
Edna VanNest, who died in 1994. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served on the USS Culebra Island. He was a jeweler at Schrock's Drug Store, Delta, from 1937 until he retired in 1973. He was a member of the Delta American Legion Post and a past Delta Village Council member.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Valerie) Sommers, Neebish Island, Mich.; and three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers; two sisters; and a grandson and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon, with Rev. Morris Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Wauseon Union cemetery. Visitation is after 3 p.m. Monday.
Preferred memorials are to Delta American Legion Post.
V. Louise Gallant
Services for V. Louise Gallant were held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Revs. John Hess and Gerald Mallott officiating. Music was provided by Lori Schultz, Julie and Jennifer Kunesh, Kim and John Mitchell and Cindy and Gator Persley. Burial was in Riverview Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were John Mitchell, Bruce Kunesh, Eric Shannon, Mark Gallant, Andy Schweitzer and Tyson Hoch. Handling arrangements was Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home.
Mary Carroll
Services for Mary A. Carroll were held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Tim Kummerer officiating. Organist was Jim Dunham. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce, Dennis, John, Patrick, Eric and Ryan Taylor. Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Letha Peters
Letha M. Peters, 85, Defiance, died at 7:22 a.m. Sunday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born June 12, 1914, in Defiance County's Tiffin Township, the daughter of Daniel and Sadie (Garber) Kuhn. In 1936, she married
Ronald Peters, who died in 1975. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, its women's guild, Defiance Senior Center and was a former American Red Cross volunteer for 20 years.
Surviving are a son, Robert, Defiance; and two grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a son, Richard; two brothers, Donald and Leonard Kuhn; and a sister, Edith Farmer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church with Rev. Alfred Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
Clyde Swilling
STRYKER - Clyde C. Swilling, 83, Stryker, died Thursday at Community Hospitals of Williams County-Montpelier.
He was born June 11, 1916, in Atlanta, Ga., the son of Clyde and Pansy (Slater) Swilling. In 1997, he married
Sadie Besancon, who survives. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Stryker, and an engineer for the U.S. government.
Also surviving are a daughter, Faith Lambert, Arlington, Va.; a stepdaughter, Marie Besancon; two stepsons, Michael Besancon of Evanston, Ill., and Charles Besancon, New Bern, N.C.; and a grandchild and 11 stepgrandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two sisters and a brother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church with Rev. Daniel Douglass officiating. Burial will be in National Memorial Garden cemetery, Fairfax, Va. There will be no visitation. Grisier Funeral Home, Stryker, is in charge of arrangements.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
Ronald Jodry
STRYKER - Ronald J. Jodry, 82, Stryker, died Saturday evening from injuries sustained in an auto accident at Ohio 34 and Williams County Road J.
He was born July 12, 1917, in Stryker, the son of Sylvan and Mabel (Bourquin) Jodry. Before his retirement, he worked at Metal Forge Co., Stryker, and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are two brothers, Dillwyn of West Unity and Sylvan, Lima; and two sisters, Margaret Maxwell of Ruskin, Fla., and Emma Jones, Kingsley, Pa.
Arrangements are pending at Grisier Funeral Home, Stryker.
Preferred memorials are to Gideons International or a charity of the donor's choice.
Edwin Stoltz
WAUSEON - Former Wauseon resident Edwin C. Stoltz, 81, Mt. Vernon, died Saturday at Country Court Nursing Home, Mt. Vernon.
He was born May 13, 1918, in Fayette, the son of Nelson and Gussie (Johnson) Stoltz. In 1937, he married
Vivian Lamb, who survives. Before retiring, he had worked in construction and engineering with United Telephone Co.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Judy) Smith, Mt. Vernon; a son, Jerold, Fort Wayne; a sister, Ilvah Quillet, Slocum, Ala.; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a son, James; and two brothers, Olan and Veryl.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon, with Rev. Edward Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Zion cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice of Fulton and Williams Counties.
