Dorothy F. Short
(1910 - 2006)
ARCHBOLD - Dorothy F. Short, 96, of Archbold, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 30, 2006, at Fairlawn Nursing Home, where she had lived for the past three and a half years.
Born March 19, 1910, near Pettisville, to Sarah (Nofziger) and Harve Rychener, she married
Freeman R. Short on Nov. 16, 1929, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1972.
Employed in the cushion department of Yoder and Frey for 13 years, she retired in 1963. She was a member of the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church.
Surviving are her sons, Richard A. (and wife, Sylvia) Short, Gerald D. (Marilyn) Short and David A. (Trudy) Short, all of Archbold; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Sherm (Gladys) Taylor of Sarasota, Fla.; and a sister - in - law, Dorothy "Chub" Rychener of Archbold.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jeanette Smith; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and two brothers, Tom Rychener and Glen Rychener.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 - 8 p.m. in the Chapel at Fairlawn Haven, with a graveside service to be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Pettisville cemetery.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church with the Rev. Stuart Rex and the Rev. Charles Zimmerman to officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Archbold Evangelical Church, Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home or the Gideons International.
Short Funeral Home, Archbold, is in charge of the arrangements.
Alice M. Johnson
(1907 - 2006)
Alice M. Johnson, 99, of Bryan, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 29, 2006, at the Community Hospital and Wellness Center - Bryan.
Born Aug. 5, 1907, at Williams County, to Myrta E. (White) and Alva Shankster, she married
William J. Johnson on Oct. 17, 1937, at Bryan, and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Employed for 12 years at Winzeler Stamping before her marriage, she was later a homemaker, babysat for many children in the Bryan area and was also employed at the Bryan Canning Company for 23 seasons.
She attended the Assembly of God Church, Bryan.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Rachel McKelvey of Montpelier, several nieces and nephews and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Shankster, and three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Kohl, Mrs. Mildred Motter and Mrs. Julia Smith.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2 - 7 p.m. in the Oberlin - Ford Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Sam Byroads to officiate. Burial will follow in Shiffler cemetery, Pulaski.
Memorials may be made to the Assembly of God or Lifeline of Defiance.
Lloyd J. Wieland
(1929 - 2006)
STRYKER - Lloyd J. Wieland, 77, of Stryker, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, in his home following an extended illness.
Born May 24, 1929, to Grace (Henning) and John Wieland, he married
Wanda Haye on Dec. 31, 1974 and she survives.
A lifelong area farmer and truck driver, he had also been a past manager of The Stryker Farmers Exchange and served on the village council.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Terry (and wife, Lynda) Wieland of Stryker; a daughter, Melody Wieland of Bryan; a stepson, Calvin (Fannie) Stantz of Stryker; a stepdaughter, Cynthia (John Black) Krass of Defiance; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Calvin John and William Wieland, both of Bryan; and a sister, Mabel McBride of Bryan.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Stryker cemetery with Pastor Donna Stutzman to officiate. There will be no visitation. The Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker is in charge of arrangements
Memorials may be made to Hospice, The Caring Way, of Williams and Fulton Counties.
Robert A. "Rob" Whetro
(1963 - 2006)
EDGERTON - Robert A. "Rob" Whetro, 42, of Edgerton, died early Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, shortly after admittance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers - Bryan. Born Dec. 24, 1963, in Bryan, he was the son of Carolyn R. (Stokes) and Hal E. Whetro.
He and his father co - founded the Northwest Ohio Scholastic Journal in 2003 and he was its editor. A 1982 graduate of Edgerton High School, he graduated from the Defiance College in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Education, specializing in learning disabilities. He taught learning disabilities classes in the Bryan, Montpelier and Edgerton school systems at the elementary and junior high levels.
He worked as a sports writer for the Edgerton Earth and in August 1995, he began as a sports writer for The Bryan Times, became assistant sports editor in June 1998 and then sports editor until he left to start the Northwest Ohio Scholastic Journal in November 2003, covering youth activities in the area schools.
He coached softball for several years in the summer in Edgerton and was a member of the Church of Christ in Edgerton, where he was a former youth group director and currently was in charge of the sound system.
Surviving are his mother, Carolyn Whetro of Edgerton; a brother, Kerry (and wife, Paula) Whetro of Mascotte, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Andy (Cheryl) Hahn of Antwerp; six nieces and nephews and four great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hal E. Whetro, on Nov. 5, 2005.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 - 8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Edgerton Church of Christ with D.V. Dillinger to officiate. Burial will be private in Maple Grove cemetery, Edgerton.
Memorials may be made to the family or to the Edgerton Church of Christ.
Ramon Rangel
(1928 - 2006)
DEFIANCE - Ramon Rangel, 78, of Defiance, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Mercy Hospital of Defiance.
Born Aug. 9, 1928, in Texas, to Francisca (Gonzalez) and Romulo Rangel, he married
Maria Suarez on July 17, 1947, and she survives.
Retired from GM Powertrain, he was also a retired minister at Leipsic and Defiance and was the vice president of Pentecostal Ministries of New Mexico.
He was a member of the Bethel Worship Center.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are six daughters, Mrs. Wilfredo (the Rev. Rosie) Perez, Mrs. Leonardo (Yolanda) Robledo, Mrs. Gordon (Theresa) Lockhart, Mrs. David (Mary) Esparza and Mrs. Jaime (Deborah) Diaz, all of Defiance, and Mrs. Alex (Esther) Gallardo of Paulding; a son, Joe (and wife, Esther) Rangel of Paulding; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two brothers, John Rangel of Paulding and Severino Rangel of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2 - 9 p.m. in the Mast - Mock - Hoffman Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Bethel Worship Center, Defiance, with the Rev. Rosie Perez and Pastor Misael Rodriguez to officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance County.
Memorials may be made to the Bethel Worship Center.
Margaret A. Martin
(1921 - 2006)
MONTPELIER - Margaret "Peg" A. Martin, 85, of Montpelier, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Harborside Healthcare Center Northwestern Ohio - Bryan.
Born March 3, 1921, in Greenville, Mich., to Frances M. (Nelson) and Charles E. Carlin, she married
Robert C. Martin on Sept. 20, 1943, in Washington D.C., and he preceded her in death in October 1987.
A 1939 graduate of Greenville High School, Greenville, Mich., she was a homemaker. She had also been employed at Mohawk Tools, Montpelier, for a number of years.
Having served with the Army WAC detachment during World War II, she was a lifetime member of the Pioneer V.F.W.
Surviving are a son, John (and wife, Susan) Martin of Bryan; two daughters, Mary F. Walkup and Jerri A. Martin, both of Montpelier; six grandchildren, J. David, Scott and Matthew Martin and Ron, Steve and Nicky Walkup; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Hazel Dorsey of Orange County, Calif., Betty Laituri of Conneaut and Mrs. Gerry (Carol) Cole of Newark, Del.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside cemetery, Montpelier, with Pastor Dee Custar to officiate. There will be no visitation. Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Margaret Louise Britsch
(1914 - 2006)
Margaret L. Britsch, 92, of Bryan, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at Harborside Healthcare Northwestern Ohio - Bryan.
Born March 26, 1914, in Morenci, Mich. to Marie (Metcalf) and Dr. James B. Munro, she married
Richard F. Britsch on Aug. 10, 1938, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1990.
Formerly of Munson, Mich., she had previously resided at Merry Lake. She graduated from Morenci High School Class of 1932 and attended Michigan State University.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet Paxton of Bryan and Betsy Bachman of Wauseon; three grandchildren, Brenda Keller of Phoenix, Ariz., Ryan (and wife, Niki) Bachman of Napoleon and Mrs. Jason (Robyn) Cocke of Delta; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Downing of Commerce Twp., Mich. and Jean Hadley of Columbus.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sarah Dixon; and a brother, Dr. Jim Munro.
At her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation hours or services. Interment will be at Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci, Mich. at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Kenneth L. Schantz
(1922 - 2006)
WAUSEON - Kenneth L. Schantz, 83, of Wauseon, died Friday afternoon, Aug. 18, 2006, at Fulton Manor Nursing Home in Wauseon, where he had resided since Nov. 18, 2004. Born Dec. 31, 1922, at Clinton Township, Fulton County, to Amanda (Beck) and Otto Schantz, he married
Magdalene Osborne on May 2, 1946, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 2002.
A lifelong resident of the Wauseon area, he worked at the former Sterling Milk Co. and Sam Goldsmith Poultry and Eggs. He has also owned a carpet cleaning business. Upon retirement, he had worked at Wal - Mart for seven years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a part of the local FISH program and was an active member of the First Church of God in Wauseon.
Surviving are four sons, Randall (and wife, Cinda) Schantz of Saginaw, Mich., Barry Schantz of Delta, Rick (Verlinda) Schantz of Archbold and Kim Schantz of Wauseon; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Miller of Archbold and Arvada Rupp of Waterville. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters, Shari Kay Schantz and Sarah Lynne Schantz; and a brother, Oliver Schantz.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2 - 8 p.m. in the First Church of God.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the church with Pastor Wesley Glines to officiate. Interment will follow at the Wauseon Union cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W. Post 7424. Short Funeral Home in Archbold is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Fulton Manor's Activity Department.
Christopher W. "Boob" Hinkley
(1974 - 2006)
READING, Mich. - Christopher W. "Boob" Hinkley, 32, of Reading, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, as the result of an automobile accident on Williams County Road M.50, Superior Township, Ohio.
Born July 26, 1974, at Morenci, Mich., to Patricia (Johnson) and Neil Hinkley, he married
Jeanne Seely on Jan. 4, 2001, at Hillsdale, and she survives.
A 1993 graduate of Lenawee Christian School, he was employed at TRW in Fayette, Ohio, for over 12 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Christopher and Camille, both at home; mother, Patricia Hinkley of Unicoi, Tenn.; father, Neil (and wife, Carol) Hinkley of Morenci; stepmother, Barbara Hinkley of Waldron; two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Heather) Green and Casey Hinkley, both of Johnson City, Tenn.; a half brother, Shawn Hinkley of Unicoi, Tenn.; and grandmother, Mae Bryant of Unicoi, Tenn.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Eagle Funeral Home - Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor William VanValkenburg to officiate. Interment will follow at Waldron cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christopher and Camille Hinkley Education Fund.
