Willis Leadingham
1926 - 2007
Willis Leadingham, age 80, of Gallipolis, died Monday March 12, 2007 at the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Florida. Born December 29, 1926 in Carter County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late James Madison Leadingham and the late Rosa Pennington Leadingham. Willis is also preceded by nine brothers and sisters.
He was a graduate of South Webster High School, class of 1945; he later graduated with a B.S degree in Education from Ohio University in 1951. From 1944 until 1946, he served in the United States Navy during World War II. After 4 years of teaching, he entered the business field, owning and operating an auto agency in Meigs County, after selling the agency he was the buyer and transportation supervisor for Stauffer Chemical Company in Gallipolis Ferry, WV. Leaving there, he entered the Real Estate field, founding Leadingham Real Estate Company in 1973.
He was a member of Morning Dawn Masonic Lodge #7 (where he received his 50 year membership award), the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus (32nd degree), Aladdin Temple Shrine and the Gallipolis Shrine Club, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Willis has been and active member of the Lions Club, for over 50 years. First in Pomeroy, and later in Gallipolis, the Ohio Lions, and Lions International. Having been elected to the office of District Governor of District 13J in Ohio for the year 1960-1961. Serving on several Ohio State committees since 1961. Serving in several capacities in the Lions enabled him and his wife to travel extensively, not only across the United States, but Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Canada.
Willis also enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, traveling, and square dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Marie Kegley Leadingham, who he married
on June 28, 1947 in Greenup, KY.
Also surviving are, three daughters, Connie Cantrell, Bobbie (Jeff) Sheets, and Rose Marie Fujimoto. Grandsons, Aaron (Beth) Cantrell, Brian Cantrell, Jason (Jessica) Enoch, James Finnerty, and Jeffrey (Lindsi) Enoch and Casey Fujimoto. Great Grandchildren, Zacharie, Christiana, Natalie, Conner and Kai all of Columbus. Along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Saturday March 17, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home 810 2nd Ave. Gallipolis, with Rev. Arland King officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Hope at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 PM.
Lions Memorial Services will be 7:30 PM. Friday at the funeral home followed by a Masonic Service at 8:00 PM.
Military funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.
The Grandsons and Nephews will serve as Pallbearers.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ronald Patrick, Roland Noe, Robert Thomas, Howard Lemon, and George Stumpf.
Clarence Pearson
2028 - 2007
Clarence Pearson Sr. of West Columbia, WV passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2007. He was a resident of Mason County for 47 years. He attended in Logan County Public Schools, after relocating to Huntington, WV, he attended Douglas High School. He then continued his education by training for Auto Mechanic. He was employed by Lakin State Hospital for fifteen years as an Auto Mechanic, and Mr. Pearson also worked as a Carpenter, Plumber, Construction Worker, and Part-time Coal Miner.
He was preceded in death by Father and Mother Henry and Lily Lee Pearson, twin daughters: Lily Jo and Laura Jean Pearson; Sister: Geneva M. Pearson Turner; Brothers: John Henry, Leo F., Rubit, and Joe Louis Pearson; Best Friend: Hobert Demetrius Goggins.
Clarence Pearson is survived by: Former Wife: Cynthia M. Pearson Moore of Pageton, WV; Son: Clarence B. (Tammy) Pearson Jr. of Rio Grande, Ohio; 2 Daughters: Debra Lynn Pearson of Landover, MD and Flora L. (Gregory Finney) Pearson of Landover, MD; Sister: Leola Pearson (Lavin) Williams; Brother: Meredith J. Pearson; Nine Grandchildren: Mario Pearson, Clarence B. Pearson III (Tre’), Tanya Lacole Pearson, Noira Letishe Pearson, Lindsay Aaron Pearson, Cynthia Morgan Bricale Pearson, Tyler Donovan Beaulo Pearson, Demythia Emane’ Pearson, Jordyn Erone Mykala Finney; 13 Great Grand Children, 16 Nieces and 8 Nephews and a host of great Nieces and great Nephews; 1 Favorite sister in law Naomi Cuthbertson Scrivens, and other relatives and friends.

Ardith Lou 'Artie' Maynard
1945 - 2007
Ardith Lou ‘Artie’ Maynard, age 61, of Gallipolis, died Friday evening March 23, 2007 at her residence. Born March 26, 1945 in New Jersey, she is the daughter of Sherd Maynard of St. Albans, WV. And the late Evirl Vancamp Maynard.
Artie is a graduate of West Virginia State University. A special needs teacher she taught at Kyger Creek High School from 1979 through its closing in 1992, and from its reopening as River Valley High School in 1992 to the present, for a total of 27 years. She also previously taught in the Mason County, WV. School system, and was a former employee of Lakin State Hospital in Mason County. She greatly enjoyed coaching Jr. High basketball and tennis. She was also an avid card player and enjoyed fishing.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Tuesday March 27, 2007 at River Valley High School with Pastors Richard Unroe and Ron Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial park in St. Albans.

Conard Edward (Ed) Hudson Jr.
1957 - 2007
Conard Edward (Ed) Hudson Jr., age 49, passed away suddenly on Tuesday January 30, 2007. He was a lifelong resident of Gallia County, Ohio.
Ed was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on December 13, 1957 To Lyda L. Farley Hudson and Conard E. Hudson Sr. He was preceded in death by his father. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Bernice Hudson, and his maternal grandparents, Granville and Elsie Farley.
He is survived by his only child, a daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Hudson. Also surviving are his mother, Lyda, a sister, Angela (Hudson) Hagerty. Survivors also include his brother in law, Mark, a nephew, Sean, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
Ed graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1975. He was a former employee of the Gallia County Rural Water Association.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting with friends and his dog, Tuck. He was an active member of the Gallia County Gun Club.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM. Saturday February 3, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Centenary cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-9 PM.

Gerrald Lee Johnson
1942 - 2007
Gerrald Lee Johnson, age 64, of Crown City, died Thursday evening, February 1, 2007 at Holzer Medical Center. Born August 10, 1942 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Elbin and Eileane Mooney Johnson.
Gerrald was a retired employee of the Gallia County Garage.

James R. 'Jim' Neal
1941 - 2007
James R. ‘Jim’ Neal, age 65, of Riverside Drive in Cheshire, died Saturday morning February 10, 2007 at Arbors at Gallipolis. Born February 22, 1941 in Cheshire, he was the son of the late Morris Rucker Neal and the late Mary Jane Rothgeb Neal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a maternal aunt, Betty Rothgeb Evans, and by several other aunts and uncles.
A graduate of Cheshire High School and Rio Grande College, Jim worked for the Western and Southern Insurance Company, retiring after 25 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Cheshire Baptist Church, and was a member of the Cheshire Village Council for several years.
Jim was a member of the following Masonic Organizations, Siloam Masonic Lodge # 456 in Cheshire, where he served as secretary for many years, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine and the Gallipolis Shrine Club.

Jennie Lou Hudson
1925 - 2007
Jennie Lou Bias Hudson, age 82, of Gallipolis,” went to be with the Lord “on Wednesday February 28, 2007 at her residence. Born February 7, 1925 in Huntington, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Carl B. and Isabelle Figley Bias. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Jack Alden Hudson who preceded her in 1997.
Jennie Lou and her husband Jack, owned and operated Carl’s Shoe Store in Gallipolis for many years. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the French Art Colony.

Robert 'Brownie' Brown
1925 - 2007
Robert K. ‘Brownie’ Brown, age 81, of Gallipolis, died Monday February 5, 2007 at his residence. Born July 1, 1925 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Cecil H. and Shirley Beck Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Frances Ruth Elliott Brown who he married
on September 1, 1950 and who preceded him on March 18, 1984.
Brownie was a retired farm manager from the Gallipolis Developmental Center, and a World War II Army Veteran.
He was well known for raising, boarding and showing horses, and was a member of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association, The American Quarter Horse Association, and the American Paint Horse Association.
He is survived by his friends and caregivers, Bill and Robin Carter of Gallipolis.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Friday, February 9, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mound Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 6-8 PM.

Rev. Dr. Gilbert M. Craig, Jr.
1950 - 2007
Rev. Dr. Gilbert Marion Craig, Jr., age 56, of Gallipolis, died Thursday February 8, 2007 at 8:50 P.M. at his home. Gilbert was born on August 6, 1950, in Gallipolis, Ohio. He was the son of the late Mary Lucille Doss Craig and Gilber M. Craig, Sr. He was blessed with having a sister, Gayle Craig Brown (Harvey) of Bidwell, Ohio. He also ofter referred to his cousins, Hank and Leslie Doss, of Phoenix, AZ as a brother and sister.
Gilbert was a life-long resident of Gallipolis and graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1968. In 1978, he was saved and became a member of Paint Creek Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. G.G. Turner. After accepting his call to ministry, he received degrees from Liberty University, with a Bachelor of Science in Church Ministries; Trinity Theological Seminary, with a Master of Sacred Literature; and Bethany Theological Seminary, with a Doctor of Ministry.
Gilbert married
Patricia Arlene Spencer Craig on August 20, 1979 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. They accepted the call to serve at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in August of 1985, where they faithfully served for 21 years. He was also active in the Providence Regular Missionary Baptist Association, Inc. where he served as Youth Advisor, 1st and 2nd Vice Moderator, and Vice President of Ministers and Deacons. In 1999 he had the honor of being elected Moderator of that Association, which is the oldest Black Association in the world.
He enjoyed watching sports, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was also and active member in the summer softball league for many years as a coach. Gilbert has worked at Philip Sporn Power Plant in New Haven, West Virginia for 33 years.
The joy of his life was family, Gilbert and Patty loved being parnets and were entrusted with four loving children: Heather (Cody) Roberts of Euclid, Ohio, Bobby Mabry of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gilbert (Bert) Craig III of Gallipolis, Ohio and Gretchen Craig of Vandalia, Ohio. They were also blessed with six Grandchildren: Harrison, Spencer, Torraye, Robert Jr., Maliyah, and Comyah. They also have a host of Nieces and Nephews. Gilbert and Patty were married
for 23 years before Patty departed from this life in 2002 after rendering faithful service to her Lord, husband, family, and church.
Special thanks to Dr. Michael Zirille, Holzer Hospice, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and for all those who prayed or helped in so many thoughtful ways. The greatest thanks has been extended throughout Gilbert's life to Jesus Christ his personal Savior who died to save him and arouse to assure him that He had defeated death, hell, and the grave...and Gilbert wisely accepted! We shall never forget his smile or his divine caring spirit. He leaves to cherish his memory a thankful family, community, and a host of friends.
