Joseph Charchak
1922 - 2007
Joseph Charchak, age 84, of Panama City, Florida and formerly of Gallipolis, died Tuesday April 3, 2007 in Panama City. Born August 31, 1922 in Gary, Indiana he was the son of the late John and Barbara Yaros Charchak. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his wife, Ruby Mae Bunce Charchak, by 6 brothers, 2 sisters, and by a step son, Russell D. Wilson. He is survived by 5 step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A World War II Veteran, he served in the Army Air Corp, 8th Air Force, 44th Bomber Group and was shot down over Germany on March 18, 1944 and became a POW.

His career was spent in law enforcement, and he retired as a Captain from the Lake County, Indiana Sheriffs Dept.

His memberships included, the Lake County Fraternal Order of Police, and VFW Post #4464 in Gallipolis, and the Swiss Internees Association.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Tuesday April 10, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home 810 Second Ave. Gallipolis. Burial will follow in Fulton cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from noon until the time of service.

Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church, in Merrillville, Indiana.

Betty Delores Rees
1941 - 2007
Betty Delores Rees, age 65, of Cheshire, died Friday April 6, 2007 at her residence. Born October 27, 1941 in Austin, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lorine Hammack. In addition to her parents she was preceded by a brother, Raymond Hammack.

Betty was a retired realtor.

She is survived by:

Terry Rees of Kanauga
Greg Rees of Cheshire
5 Grandchildren
2 Brothers: Robert Hammack of Houston, Texas

Florence Louise Finley
1922 - 2007
Florence Louise Finley, age 84, of Crown City, died Saturday April 14, 2007 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Columbus. Born July 27, 1922 in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Palmer and Myrtle Mooney Fisher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Elwin ‘Link’ Finley who she married April 14, 1940 and who preceded her on June 6, 2000, by 3 sons, Gary, Larry and Derry Finley, by 4 brothers, Jack, Dell, Bill, and Noel Fisher, and by a sister, Nancy Fisher.

Louise was a homemaker.

She is survived by:

1 Daughter: Brenda Kettell of Grove City
3 Grandchildren: Tracey Fouch, Jeff Finley, and Andrew Kettell.
3 Great Grandchildren: Baylee, Tyler, and Declan.
1 Sister: Ingrid Shockley of Anderson, CA.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Wednesday April 18, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.

Frank Childers
1917 - 2007
Frank Childers, age 89, of Gallipolis, died Friday evening April 27, 2007 at Holzer Medical Center. Born September 8, 1917 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Fred and Anna F. ‘Fannie’ White Childers. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his wife Bernice Ziler Childers who he married on December 18, 1948 and who preceded him on August 30, 1999.

Frank was a retired office manager for the Ohio Employment Service, and a former school teacher. He was a World War II Army Air Corp Veteran, achieving the rank of Master Sgt. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Morning Dawn Masonic Lodge, which he recently received his 50 year membership pin, and the K of P Lodge in Gallipolis.

He is survived by:

3 Children: John (Judith) Childers of Carrollton
Marilyn (Bill) Kuhn of Northup
Martha (Mike) Caldwell of Northup
8 Grandchildren: Marie (Scott) Lear, Kelly (John) Cremeans, Beth (Nathan) Cremeans, Toni Caldwell, Wade Caldwell, Rachel Childers, Laura Caldwell, and Ben Childers.
2 Great Grandchildren: Josie Cremeans, and Alivia Lear.
Sister: Eulah Grim of Columbus

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Wednesday May 2, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Stockton officiating. Burial will follow in Old Pine cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-9 PM.

Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral detail.

Virginia Helen Stevens
1943 - 2007
Virginia Helen Stevens, age 63, of Gallipolis, died Wednesday morning May 16, 2007 at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Pt. Pleasant. Born October 24, 1943 in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Stewart F. Spriggs Sr. and the late Florence Seum Spriggs. In addition to her parents she was preceded by a sister, Irma Tackett.

She was a home health aide and a member of the Potters Wheel Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by:

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM. Saturday May 19, 2007 at the Potters Wheel Pentecostal Church, with Pastor Steve Nibert officiating. Burial will follow in the Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 PM. and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.

Catherine Elizabeth Daniels
1916 - 2006
Catherine Elizabeth Daniels, age 90, of Gallipolis, died Saturday November 25, 2006 at Holzer Senior Care Center. Born July 15, 1916 in Charlotte, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Daisy Moselle Greer. In addition to her mother, she was preceded by her husband Thomas E. Daniels, and by 3 Brothers.
Elizabeth retired from the Gallipolis Developmental Center, and attended the Fellowship Chapel in Vinton. She enjoyed gardening, and being outdoors and was an avid shopper.

She is survived by Her Girls: Eva Leah Curry and Nan Williamson; 1 Brother: Manuel Greer; Several Nieces and Nephews; Special Friend: Ann Maynard; And all her special friends at Holzer Senior Care Center. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday November 29, 2006 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday one hour prior to services.

Artie Raike
1935 - 2007
Artie Raike, age 72, of Gallipolis, died Friday morning January 26, 2007 at Overbrook Rehabilitation Center in Middleport. Born January 22, 1935 in the Kyger community in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Violet D. Langford Rupe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Dana M. Raike, by three brothers, Emory, Robert and Ura Grover, and by a sister, Wanda Rupe.
Artie was a graduate of Cheshire High School, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and served as the treasurer of the Cheshire Alumni Association.

She is survived by:

Daughter: Terry (Dave) Burnett of Gallipolis
Sister: Ina Louise Johnson of Sarasota, Florida
Brother: Arthur (Carol) Rupe of Gallipolis
Sister in law: Norma Grover of Albuquerque, New Mexico
Several Nieces and Nephews

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM. Monday January 29, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Bob Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 6-9 PM.

Waneta` Faye` Spencer
1925 - 2007
Waneta Faye Spencer, age 81, of Newcomerstown and formerly of Gallipolis, died Monday January 22, 2007 in the home of her sister, Eileen Elliott and her niece, Diana Elliott, and her great nephew, Troy Barthalow, where she had made her home. Born June 11, 1925 in Gallipolis, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Virgie Shivley Rife. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her first husband, Paul Harrison, by her second husband Roland G. Spencer, by two-step children, Terri Spencer, and Jeff Spencer, and by six brothers and sisters, Hazel May rife, Goldie Marie Rife, Sara Summers, Calvin Rife, Francis Rife, and Merch Rife.
She was a formerly cashier at the A &P grocery in Gallipolis, and worked for many years at Kroger’s in Columbus. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Westerville.

She is survived by:

A Step Son: Rodney (Margaret) Spencer of Florida
Four Brothers and Sisters: Mary (Ted) Flood of Gallipolis
Eileen Elliott of Newcomerstown
Herbert Rife of Gallipolis
Roger (Tressie) Rife of Columbus
Several Nieces and Nephews

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Friday January 26, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home 810 2nd. Ave. Gallipolis, with Rev. Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in gravel Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 PM.

Donaldson Robert Dewey Keels
1919 - 2007
Donaldson Robert ‘Dewey’ Keels, age 87, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday evening January 16, 2007 at his residence. Born June 22, 1919 in Rio Grande, son of the late Thurman and Pearl Howell Keels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two brothers, and five sisters.
Don was a retired supervisor for the Ohio Dept. of Transportation (ODOT) where he worked for over 40 years. He was a United States Army Veteran, and a graduate of Rio Grande High School.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Hill Keels, who he married on October 29, 1949. Also surviving is a daughter, Deidra Keels of San Francisco, CA.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM. Friday January 19, 2007 at Pine Street cemetery. A procession will form at Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home at 10:45 AM. on Friday.

Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Gallia County Senior Center 1157 St. Rt. 160 Gallipolis, OH. 45631
