James Daniel Ponikvar, 49, of Orwell, entered eternal rest Saturday morning, January 5th, 2013. He was born June 30, 1963 to Leon "Skip" and the late Marlene (nee Rinaldi) Ponikvar.
He will be missed by: his father and step-mother, Kathleen (nee Lodge) Ponikvar; brother, John R. Ponikvar; step-sister, Jennifer (nee Lodge) (Tim) Backovsky; step-brother, James Lodge; aunt Daniele "Donna" (nee Ponikvar) (Charles) Blessing; nephew, Benjamin Backovsky; niece, Emily Backovsky; cousins, Michelle (nee Ulrich) Chernikoff, Kelly Ulrich; and many friends. He is preceded in death by: his mother; brother Joseph F Ponikvar; and grandparents, Leon and Mary Ponikvar.
Private Services will be held at a later date.
Jacob Albert Miller
August 5, 1953 - January 4, 2013
Jacob Albert Miller, 59, of Hiram, entered eternal rest Friday morning peacefully, January 4th, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 5th, 1953 to the late Jacob A. and Lizzie Ellen (Miller) Miller.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He enjoyed coloring and greeting friends at Church. Jacob attended the Metzenbaum Center in Chesterland.
Jacob will be missed by: his siblings; Nelson Miller, Clara (Ervin) Yoder, Esther Miller, Katie Yoder, Nora (Robert) Miller; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by: his parents, and brother-in-law, Eli Yoder.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 9:30 A.M., SUNDAY, JANUARY 6TH, 2013 AT 14460 NASH RD, BURTON, OH with Bishop Robert Kurtz officiating. Jacob's final resting place will be in Hershberger cemetery in Troy Twp, OH. Visitation will be anytime until the time of service at 17797 Jug Rd. Troy Twp, OH.
Melvin M. Miller
June 17, 1938 - December 31, 2012
Melvin M. Miller, 74, of Parkman, entered eternal rest Monday morning, December 31st, 2012. He was born June 17th, 1938 to the late Milo J. and Lydia (Byler) Miller. Melvin married
Mary M. Yoder on June 5th, 1958.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He worked as a blacksmith before retiring. Melvin was ordained Minister on October 20th, 1974 and later as Bishop of the Parkman Northeast District #6 on May 9th, 1993.
Melvin will be missed by: his loving wife; children, Daniel (Irene) Miller, Ida (Dave) Miller, Erma (Freeman) Miller, Lydiann (Crist) Miller, Melvin Jr (Elizabeth) Miller, Barbara (Raymond) Detweiler, Willis (Edna) Miller, Mary Ann (David) Miller; 67grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 6 sisters; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by: his parents; 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 9:30 A.M., THURSDAY, JANUARY 3RD, 2013 AT 16363 NEWCOMB RD, PARKMAN, OH with Bishop Wayne H. Weaver officiating. Melvin's final resting place will be in Yoder cemetery in Parkman, OH. Visitation will be anytime until the time of service.
Emanuel "Manny" Magilavy
December 17, 1919 - December 26, 2012
Emanuel "Manny" Magilavy, 93, of Akron passed away peacefully December 26, 2012. He was born in Akron December 17, 1919 to Daniel and Belle Magilavy.
He was a B-17 pilot in World War ll, and was shot down and captured, spending the remainder of the war in a POW camp in Germany. He returned home and raised a wonderful family full of love. He worked hard all of his life, retiring in his mid 80's as owner of Mardan Dry Cleaners. Manny was a man of great courage, kindness and dignity and a very good listener.
Manny was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Seyer; sister, Leona and brother, Jack. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Billie; daughter, Lynda Slikkerveer (John); sons, Chuck Magilavy (Sue), Marc Magilavy (Karen); son-in-law, Rick Seyer; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Dave and Maury; and many special nieces and nephews.
Interment Ohio Western Reserve National cemetery, in Rittman. Memorials may be made in Manny's name to Barbed Wire Organization, Buckeye Chapter, 18477 Avon Belden Rd., Grafton, Ohio 44044.
Michael D. Sandford
January 24, 1941 - December 21, 2012
Michael D. Sandford, 71, of Huntsburg, entered eternal rest Friday evening, December 21st, 2012 at Blossom Hill Care Center. He was born in England on January 24, 1941 to the late William and Kathleen Sandford. He moved to the United States in 1968 and shortly thereafter married
Barbara Tompkins on November 14, 1970. Michael enjoyed spending his time doing photography and fly-fishing.
He will be missed by: his wife; children, Samantha (Paul) Brister of Gustavus, Darrin (Jayne) Jones of England, David (Donna) Jones of England; grandchildren, Andrew Iadimarco, Donovan Iadimarco, Joshua Brister, Chandler Brister, Michael Jones, Roseanne Jones, Georgia Jones, and Ryan Jones; and many friends.
A private gathering of family will be held at a later date.
Herbert Prater
January 9, 1937 -December 20, 2012
Herbert Prater, 75, of Cortland, entered eternal rest Thursday morning, December 20th, 2012 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. He was born January 9th, 1937 to the late Roy and Mary (Dillon) Prater. He enjoyed horses, country music, singing and playing his guitar, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his family.
He will be missed by: children, Rhonda (Bill) Byler, Donna Prater, Diane (Ed) Vitu; step-son, Tony Bartleson; 1 sister; 3 brothers; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many friends. Herbert is preceded in death by: his first wife, Jeanette (Sajewski); Second wife, Melissa (Bartleson); 1 brother, and 3 sisters.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE SATURDAY, DECEMBER 22TH, 1 P.M., AT BEST FUNERAL HOME, 15809 MADISON RD., MIDDLEFIELD, OH. Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Fairview cemetery in Mesopotamia.

David A. Sly, 50, of Middlefield, entered eternal rest Thursday morning, December 6th, 2012 at UH-Geauga Medical Center. He was born June 1st, 1962 to the late Jesse and Oris (Welchman) Sly. He enjoyed spending his time doing karaoke, playing pool, and watching football.
He will be missed by: his daughter, Jamie (fiancee Dan Ross) Sly; step-daughter, Angie Davis; siblings, Linda (Keith) Williams, Wanda Sly, Butch (Judy) Sly, Brian (Diana) Sly; and many friends.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE WILL BE TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11TH, 11 A.M., AT BEST FUNERAL HOME, 15809 MADISON RD., MIDDLEFIELD, OH. Family and friends will be received Monday, December 10th, 5-8PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the family to assist in funeral expenses.
