Patricia K. Thomas, age 56, of Findlay, died at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at her residence. She was born on September 21, 1947 to Leonard R. and Grace (Baldridge) Caldwell in Wheelersburg, OH and they survive, Rural Arlington. She married David Thomas on October 5, 1968 and he survives. Patricia is survived by her children Teresa Case of Avon Park, FL, Duane of Findlay, Sarah Hutchison of Chattanooga, TN, Daniel of Rural Arlington; her brother Harley Caldwell of Wheelersburg; her sister Carolyn Russell of Rural Arlington and six grandchildren. Preceding her in death are two brothers Eugene and Arley Caldwell and her sister Darlene Clark. Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker, devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a 35-year member of The Bible Methodist Church in Findlay where she was the General Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and Custodian. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2003 at Bible Methodist Church, Findlay with Pastor Chris Cravens officiating. Interment will be in Lee cemetery, Amanda Twp. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to The Bible Methodist Church, Building Fund, 529 Stadium Drive, Findlay, OH 45840 or Bridge Home Health and Hospice 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, OH 45840 in her memory.

Alexander G. Niese

Alexander Gregory Niese was stillborn at St. Vincent Hospital on December 16, 2003 at 12:49 p.m. Surviving are his parents Gregory and Jaime (Elliott) Niese. He is also survived by his Maternal Grandparents, Daryl and Teresa Elliott of Findlay; Maternal Great-Grandfather, Kenneth Baldridge of Findlay; Maternal Great Grandparents, James and Patricia Huffman of Findlay; Maternal Great Grandmother, Norma Elliott of Findlay; Maternal Great-Great Grandmother, Elsie Thompson of Hoytville; Paternal Grandparents, John A. and Frances Niese of Ottawa; Paternal Great Grandparents, Andrew and Etheldreda Niese of Leipsic; and Paternal Great Grandparents Eugene and Lucille Knueven of Glandorf. Services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2003 at 12:00 noon at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Reverend Michael McClurg officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-12 a.m. on Friday, prior to the service. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Findlay.

Clarinda M. Bracken-Larsen

Clarinda M. Bracken-Larsen 91, of Findlay, died at 2:00 a.m., December 16, 2003 at her residence. She was born on May 3, 1912 in Kansas City, Kansas to Pearl T. and Josephine (Kennedy) Bracken. She was married to Lionel K. Larsen on March 8, 1934, celebrating 50-years of love and friendship; he died in 1985. She is survived by son Burton B. Larsen and his loving wife Alberta Larsen. Also surviving are grandchildren Sheri Scott, Tracy and Blane Larsen all of Findlay, OH. Mrs. Larsen had five great-grandchildren; Ashley and Michion Scott, Britney, Bryce and Brooke Larsen. Mrs. Larsen is also survived by nephew Raymond Turkington of Ogallala, Nebraska and niece Ann Latscha of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. Mrs. Larsen was a homemaker and a member of the Kansas City, Kansas Monday Club. She moved to Findlay, OH in 1994 to be close to her loving family. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Kansas City for 79 years and attended St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Findlay. Mrs. Larsen was a devout Christian and looked forward to being accepted into the Kingdom of God to join her sister Verna Tuttle who passed away earlier this year and her loving husband Lionel. She will forever be loved by her surviving family for the strength and kindness she showed everyone. Local services will be private; arrangements by COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, OH. Funeral services will be held at Porter Funeral Home in Kansas City, KS at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2003. Interment will be in Highland Park cemetery, Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Immanuel Baptist Church, 8822 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas, 66112.

Theron H. Arras

Died 12/18/03

Theron H. L. Arras, age 92, originally from Jenera, died at 8:10 p.m. at Riverside Hospital, Columbus, OH. He was born December 30, 1910 to Oliver and Clara V. (Smith) Arras, in Eagle Twp, in the home of his great-grandfather Philip Arras. He married Elizabeth Mae Miller on September 19, 1937 in Findlay and she died December 22, 1999. He is survived by his sisters Magdaline Leiter of Findlay and Lucia M. Benington of Germantown, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife; brother Howard L. Arras and his sister Jeanne Hoch. Mr. Arras attended grade school in Jenera, High School at Upper Sandusky and graduated from Findlay High School in 1929. He also attended part-time at Findlay College. He then went on to work for National Refining Company in Findlay, the Ohio Fuel Gas Company, Findlay, the Ohio Inspection Bureau in Lima and Columbus and finally retired on January 1, 1976 as Customer Service Representative with Insurance Services Office, Inc. in Columbus, OH. Mr. Arras was also a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, member Emeritus, National Safety Council, Chicago, IL, Chairman Great Lakes Division, Petroleum Division, National Petroleum Association, Washington, DC, Chairman of Michigan/Ohio Dept. of Fire and Accident Prevention, National Fire Protection Association, Boston, MA and staff member, Annual Fire School, College of Education, Ohio State University, Columbus, OH 1960-1970, All Ohio Safety Congress, Petroleum Section, Division of Safety and Hygiene, the Industrial Commission of Ohio and active in organization of meetings in connection with the petroleum industry in Ohio. Mr. Arras was also a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Upper Arlington, OH. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 22, 2003 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be in Arlington cemetery in Madison Twp. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Esther M. Treece

Esther Mae Reese Treece, 89, formerly of Findlay, but had lived in North Georgia for the past 28 years, died early Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Hutcheson Medical Center, Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia. She was born November 30, 1914 to Russell and Nellie (Herndon) Reese in Cygnet, OH. Esther married George W. Treece on June 15, 1935 in Findlay. She is survived by her daughters Carol Ann Lee, Ashland City, TN, Doris (Harold) Staley, Arcadia, FL, Patricia (Ronald) Longwith, Rossville, GA, and Ruby (Donald) Poling, Adrian, MI; her sister Marjorie (Russell) Essinger, Findlay and 14 grandchildren, Bill, Sue, Scott, Mike, Doug, David, Cherri, Kevin, Joe, Jeff, Angie, Amy, George and Andy; 21 great-grandchildren, Gabby, Sabrina, Jonathon, Jessica, Olivia, Samuel, Rachel, Ben, Bryson, Doren, Courtney, Joshua, Peyton, Brock, Gabby, August, Brandi, Christopher, Steven, Casi and Skylar; and several nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Juanita Jean Treece; son Thomas Lee; two brothers Ralph and Calvin Reese; five sisters, Helen Reese, Mary Grose, Bertha Pierce, Virginia Beach and Maxine Wilson; her son-in-law Larry Lee. Mrs. Treece was a homemaker, member of Fairview Baptist Church, the Homemakers Club of the church and volunteered at Hutcheson Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 22, 2003 at Arlington cemetery with Rev. Lowell Reeder officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Sunday, December 21 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME.

Everett D. Akerman

Died 12/19/03

Everett Dana Akerman, 80, Findlay, passed away at 9:15 pm, Friday, December 19, 2003 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. E.D. was born May 16, 1923 in Grover Hill, OH to James Everett and Faye (Uhlenhaker) Akerman and they preceded him in death. In November 1942, he married Lola Reha Smith. He married Lola's twin Lula Reva on June 26, 1953 after Lola died during childbirth and Lula survives. Of Lula and E.D.'s eight children, six survive. They are Nancy Blackford Siferd of North Canton, OH, Diane Akerman Phillips of Findlay, Beverly Blackford Tincher of North Miami, FL, Susan Blackford Hurst of Little Rock, AR, Reha Akerman Smith of El Dorado, AR and David Akerman of Hot Springs, AR. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; his brothers John Akerman of Findlay and Bill Akerman of Mt. Blanchard and his sister Naomi Tesnow of Findlay. Preceding him in death are two brothers, Ray Akerman and Gene Ackerman; two sons, Randall and William Akerman; and one grandson Kenny Phillips. E.D. was a longtime and honored employee of Cooper Tire, beginning in general utility work at the Findlay plant. He also worked at the Auburn, IN and El Dorado, AR plants, rising to the position of plant superintendent. He retired in 1984 and returned to Findlay in 1985. Mr. Akerman was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. As a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, he served in Belgium, France and Germany, including the Battle of Ardennes and the Battle of the Bulge. He earned two Bronze Stars. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be in Lee cemetery, Amanda Twp. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Monday, December 22 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio, Memorial Program, 1545 Holland Road, Suite B, Maumee, OH 43537. The family expresses gratitude for the care Mr. Akerman received from his doctors and nurses.

Helen M. Stockdale

Helen M. Stockdale, age 80, of Jenera, died at 3:48 pm, December 19, 2003 at Birchaven. She was born January 26, 1923 to Grover and Alice (Ewing) Pummell in Columbus, OH. Helen married John Harvey Stockdale on May 3, 1947 and he died July 28, 2000. She is survived by her children John R. Stockdale and Mrs. Jack (Fran) Butler, both of Findlay, Mrs. Mike (Jan S.) Repine of Marion, Mrs. Norm (Candy) Duffman of Vanlue and Sue Armbrecht of Toledo; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and her sister Rachel of Sebring, FL. She was preceded in death by her brother Bob Pummell and her sister Letheda Aldrich. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Rev. Michael Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Findlay, OH. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Monday, December 22 at the funeral home.

Mildred E. Gohlke
Born 4/13/1913
Died 6/6/2004

Mildred Elizabeth “Wilkie” Gohlke, age 91 loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 6, at Birchaven Retirement Village. Mildred was born on April 13, 1913, in Elsie, MI. She was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Findlay. Mildred married Fred Gohlke, August 6, 1932 in Findlay, Ohio. Later in life she was employed as a microfilm technician at the Hancock County Courthouse, Probate Department. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gohlke, Sr., her parents, Nellie (Divelbiss) and Daniel Wilkie, and an infant daughter, Beverly Ann Gohlke. Mildred is survived by her sons, Fred (Donna) Gohlke, Jr., of Findlay; Daniel (Anita) Gohlke, of Toledo; half brother William Wilkie of Boardman, MI; grandchildren, Susan (Tony) Goare Smith of Lima; Jon (Tiffany) Gohlke of Fredericktown; Elizabeth (Gary) Braden of Columbus and Dawn (Joe) Blazey. Ten great-grandchildren Aja and Jasmine Goare, Alyssa Gohlke, Chris, Darren and Trey Smith, Angel McFarland and Taylor and Faith Blazey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 11, 2004 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be held at Maple Grove cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4:00 p.m., 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions can be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 1701 Tiffin Ave, or Adult Day Center at the Birchaven Retirement Village, 15100 Birchaven Lane, and Findlay.

Joe R. Binger

Joe Robert Binger, 53, of Arcadia, OH passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at his residence. He was born on August 7, 1957, to Gerald R. and Helen Marie (Dillon) Binger in Findlay. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Arcadia. He first married Joy Freeman and they later divorced. He then married Janet Grashel Reynard and she survives. He is also survived by a son, Nicolas (Casie) Binger of Columbus, OH; step-son, Christopher (Erica) Reynard of Findlay; two daughters: Katrina (Kyle) Thomas of Van Buren, OH and Jessica (Scott) Albaugh of Mt. Vernon, OH; step-daughter, Terri (Christopher) Price of Van Buren, OH; and by four grandchildren: Cora and Cody Thomas and Cheyne and Tyler Price. Joe was a 1975 graduate of Arcadia High School. He then attended Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis, IN. Joe was a supervisor for Marathon Oil Company for 33 years. He was a member of Arcadia United Methodist Church and an avid Ohio State University sports fan. Joe was a loving/caring husband, son, dad, and grandfather. He loved the Arcadia community and was an avid Arcadia Football fan. He enjoyed Sunday lunches with his family and football nights on the big screen. The family would like to extend a special thank you to both Dr. Leroy Schroeder and Dr. Jason Schroeder and their staff, Dr. Chaoyang Li and Dr. Stephen Lutz and the staff at Blanchard Valley Cancer Center, as well as to Bridge Home Health and Hospice. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the funeral home. Reverend Bruce Crane will officiate and burial will follow in Knollcrest cemetery, Arcadia. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Thelma M. Bowersox

Thelma M. (Welty) Bowersox, 83, of Bluffton, formerly of Mt. Cory, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at the Bridge Hospice Center in Blanchard Valley Hospital. She was born on August 24, 1927, in Pandora, Ohio, to the late Levi and Golda (Doty) Welty. On June 11, 1948 she married Robert Bowersox at St. John�s Mennonite Church in Pandora and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. She is also survived by a son, Larry (Tricia) Bowersox, of Avon, Ohio, and a daughter Nancy (Garry) Thomas of Mt. Cory. She was the proud Grandmother and Great-Grandmother of three grandchildren, Holly (Bowersox) Kessler, Nathan Thomas, and Emily Thomas, and one great-grandson, Jeffery Kessler. She was preceded in death by her sisters Catherine (Hilty) Basinger and Dorothy Klingler. Thelma was a 1945 graduate of Mt. Cory High School. She was a direct descendant of The Mayflower through the Doty family. Throughout her life she enjoyed a wide variety of activities including performing and listening to music, gardening, cooking and sewing. Thelma played the violin, hand bells, and sang in the choir at the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church. She was an excellent cook and seamstress and took pride in serving and creating a wide variety of culinary creations, apparel and needlework. Thelma retired in 1994 as the Cafeteria Manager at Cory-Rawson Local Schools where she is still remembered for her lunches and special dishes for holiday occasions. She was a member of the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church, the Friendship Circle at the church, served on numerous church committees, and the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Visitation will be on Friday, November 26, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010. The Reverend Jerry Lewis will officiate and the interment will follow at the Pleasant View cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church or the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.

Arthur W. Brant

Arthur W. Brant, age 89, of Findlay died at 5:40pm on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 at Fox Run Manor in Findlay. He was born on October 31, 1920 in Fostoria, Ohio to the late John Espy and Letha (Leasure) Brant. He was a retired carpenter. He is survived by three sons: James A. (Jan) Brant of McComb, Michael W. (Karen) Brant of Arlington, and William John (Sue) Brant of Findlay; a daughter, Margaret A. (Jack L.) Clagg of Fostoria. He also has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two brothers: Edward and Wilbur Brant. Private services will be held for the family at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Pastor Scott Brewster will officiate. Interment will be at Arlington cemetery.

Paul Edwin Cope

Paul E. Cope, 84 of Findlay passed away at 11:00 PM, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Sterling House. Paul was born in Upper Sandusky, OH on January 1, 1926 to the late Lee and Lucile (Wilcox) Cope. On August 25, 1951 Paul married Mary Gassman and she survives. Paul was preceded in death by two siblings: Edward I. Cope and Margaret Jean Rush. Paul retired in 1988 from the State of Ohio Department of Transportation, Bowling Green. Paul was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, having served his country during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Paul was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. He held other memberships including: Ralph D. Cole Post #3, American Legion, Mosse Lodge #698, B.P.O.E. #1718 in Port Clinton, F.O.E. #2633, North Baltimore, AM VETS Post #21 and D.A.V. Post #43. Paul and Mary enjoyed many years before and after retirement at their home in Port Clinton, boating, fishing and the many friendships they made. Visitation will be held Friday, November 26, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, November 27, 2010 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow at Knollcrest Gardens cemetery with Full Military Graveside Rites by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorials may be given to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church or Heartland Hospice of Fremont.
