ON AUGUST 5,1938, HE MARRIED JANE BRINGMAN AND SHE SURVIVES IN LEIPSIC. ALSO SURVIVING ARE THREE CHILDREN: JAMES (CAROLYN) HOLL OF OTTAWA; ROBERT HOLL OF TUSCON, AZ AND JOANNE (DAVE) SUDMAN OF PERRYSBURG; 5 GRANDCHILDREN AND 4 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. HE WAS PREDECEASED BY A SISTER: MARYON WIND.

MR. HOLL WAS A MEMBER OF THE LEIPSIC UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. A MEMBER OF F & AM LODGE 325, OTTAWA AND PAST MASTER OF LEIPSIC LODGE 81 & 82 F & AM; A 1941 GRADUATE OF OHIO STATE UNIVRESITY AND WAS ON THE FOLLOWING OSU COMMITTEES: SUPPORT COMMITTEE, OARDG & OSU HORTICULTURAL COUNCIL HORTICULTURE REVIEW COMMITTEE. OBITUARY FOR: NICHOLAS L. VORST.

GLANDORF – Nicholas L. Vorst, 39, a resident of Glandorf, OH, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at 8:45 am at Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf.

He was born May 13, 1964 to Cyril and Cecelia (Hohenbrink) Vorst. His mother survives in Kalida. His father died May 30, 1990. On November 2, 1985, he married Elaine Schmitz and she survives in Glandorf.

Also surviving is one son: Justin Vorst, at home and one daughter: Jenna Vorst, at home; 7 Brothers: Vincent (Kathy) Vorst, Anthony (Sandy) Vorst and Fran (Diane) Vorst all of Kalida; John (Rosie) Vorst and Michael (Deb) Vorst of Findlay, Cyril (Phillis) Vorst of Glandorf and Lavern (Mary Ann) Vorst of Orange Pk, Fl. 8 Sisters:Wannitta (Paul) Dennis of Pickerington, Marilyn (Dale) Ricker of Ft. Jennings, Joyce Ann Vorst of Newport, Ky, Patricia (Daniel) McConnel of Zanesville, Bernice (Art) Schnipke and Virginia (Carl) Beining of Ottoville, Cecelia (Ken) Kahle of Coldwater and Connie (Ken) Kruse of Columbus Grove. A Mother-in-Law: Rita Schmitz of Glandorf. A Sister-in-Law: Donna (John) Szmansky of Ft. Wayne, In. 4 Brothers-in-law: Bob (Marilyn) Schmitz of Kalida, Mel (Shirley) Schmitz, Dennis (Marsha) Schmitz and Ed Schmitz all of Ottawa.

He was predeceased by an infant sister and two brothers: Michael and Norman Vorst.

Mr. Vorst worked for Vorst Builders of Findlay for 17 yrs. He was a member
of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Glandorf; a 1982 graduate of Kalida High School and a member of Leipsic Fish and Game Club.

A funeral mass will be said at 10:30 am Monday, June 2, 2003 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Harold Brown and Fr. Mike Hohenbrink officiating. burial will be in the Church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 pm on Saturday and 2 to 9 pm on Sunday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa where a parish rosary will be held at 7:30 pm Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Conduction Education of N.W. Ohio for Cerebral Palsey.

APPLEYARD, ESTHER KRIEGER
- June 4, 2003 - 2:17 PM

Marion, OH—Esther Krieger Appleyard, 89, formerly of Ottawa, OH, died June 2, 2003 at Community Healthcare Center in Marion, OH.

She was born October 21, 1913, to Herman and Edith (Harre) Leive. They are deceased. In 1945 she married Cornelius Krieger, he died in 1970. Esther married Frank Gummow in 1978, he died 1989. She married James Appleyard in 1984 and he died in 2002.

Survivors include a son; Frederick (Jody) Krieger, of Indianapolis, IN., a daughter; JoAnn (Edwin) Henning of Marion, OH., 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Esther was predeceased by 3 sisters; Adeline Welch, Pauline Althoff and Dorothy Eberle and 1 brother; Herman Leive.

She was employed by Postal Telegraph and Little Flower Hospital when she lived in Toledo. Esther was a former secretary for the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation, a WWII Navy Veteran, member of the Business Professional Women’s Club of Ottawa, former secretary of the Local W.A.V.E. organization in Winterhaven, FL., enjoyed sewing, needlework, gardening and cards. Her parents ran a successful bakery in Toledo, OH that was still in business after the Depression.

Funeral services will begin at 11 AM Friday at Love Funeral Home in Ottawa, OH with the Rev. Ken Pollitz officiating. Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul cemetery, Ottawa, OH. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations can be made to the Navy/Marine Corp Relief Fund.

VELMA S. LOGAN

LEIPSIC - Velma S. Logan, 89, of Leipsic, OH, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Putnam Acres Care Center in Ottawa, OH.

Mrs. Logan was born December 27, 1913 in Henry County, OH to Dan and Hattie (Austermiller) Fruth. On December 16, 1938 she married Francis E. Logan. He died on February 11, 1998.

Survivors include 1 son: Dale (Janice) Logan of Leipsic, OH; 1 daughter: Janet Mangas of Leipsic, OH; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren, 1 step great-great grandchild and 1 sister: Berneta Brubaker of Eldia, OH.

She was predeceased by 2 brothers: Harvey and Raymond Fruth and a sister: Clara Fruth

Mrs. Logan was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church, Leipsic, OH, former member of Belmore United Methodist Church, Belmore, OH, volunteer at Putnam Acres Care Center and Belmore Grange.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 7, 2003 at Love Funeral Home in Leipsic, OH. The Rev. Timothy Eding will officiate. Burial will take place at Sugar Ridge cemetery in Leipsic, OH.

Visitation will be 2-9 PM Friday, June 6 at Love Funeral Home in Leipsic, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam Acres Care Center and First Christian Church and the charity of the donor's choice.

JOSEPHINE T. KAUFMAN

GLANDORF – Josephine T. Kaufman, 82, of Glandorf, OH died 12:53 AM Monday, August 11, 2003 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, OH.

Mrs. Kaufman was born December 21, 1920 in Kalida, OH to Louis and Amelia (Morman) Knueven. On October 30, 1946 she married Harold Recker. He died February 21, 1966. On October 21, 1977 she married Albert Kaufman and he survives in Glandorf.

Also surviving are two sons, Jerry (Rachel) Recker of Glandorf, David (Linda) Recker of Ottawa; six daughters, Marjorie (William) Roth of Columbus Grove, Rosalie (Dwight) Steinke of Wapakoneta, Bonnie (James) Schmenk, Mary Ann (David) Wehri, Doris (Kenneth) Stechschulte all of Kalida, Doreen (Ralph) Knippen of Ft. Jennings. Four step-sons, Kenneth (Rose Ann) Kaufman, Henry (Jane) Kaufman of Ottawa, Harold (Mary Jane) Kaufman, Joseph (Diane) Kaufman of Miller City; two step-daughters Sr. Kateri Kaufman, OSF of Paduca, KY, and Bonnie (William) Schnipke of New Cleveland; 31 Grandchildren, 7 Great-Grandchildren, 26 Step Grandchildren, and 14 Step Great-Grandchildren; 3 brothers: Eugene (Lucille) Knueven of Glandorf, Al Knueven, and James (Helen) Knueven of Kalida; and a sister Mary Agnes (Virgil) Recker of Kalida.

Mrs. Kaufman was a homemaker, a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Glandorf where she was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society; Putnam County Right to Life; and a volunteer at Calvary Manor Nursing Home in Glandorf.

A mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 14, 2003 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Glandorf. Fr. Tom Oedy and Fr. Harold Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 PM Tuesday and 2-9 PM Wednesday at Love Funeral Home in Ottawa. Altar Rosary Society and the Knights of Columbus will have a rosary 7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

LOUIS J. FANGER

KALIDA – A funeral mass for Louis J. Fanger, 90, of Kalida, will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, August 18, 2003 at St. Michael’s’ Catholic Church, Kalida. Fr. Jim Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7-9 PM Saturday and 2-9 PM Sunday at Love Funeral Home in Ottawa.

Mr. Fanger died at 3:00 PM Thursday, August 14, 2003 at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

Surviving are 3 sons: James (Nancy) Fanger, Lyndhurst, OH, John (Linda) Fanger, Lima, and Daniel (Rebecca) Fanger, Kalida; 5 Grandchildren; 4 GReat-Grandchildren; and a sister Mary Ann Smith, Santa Anna, CA.

He was preceded in death by a sister Pauline Felkey.

Mr Fanger was a retired Mathematics and Science teacher for Kalida Local Schools and worked as Toll and Die Maker at Lima Locomotive Works/Clark Equipment. He was a member of St, Michael's Catholic Church and its Holy Name Soiciety. A member of the Kalida School Board for 12 years, an assisant Scoutmather for the Boy Scouts of America, and a graduate of Ohio Northern Univeristy and Bowling Green State University.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

ZIEROLF, AGATHA C.

OTTAWA – Agatha C. Zierolf, 90 of Ottawa, died 3:25 pm Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa. She was born December 12, 1912 in Hamler to Joseph and Catherine (Guilliome) Jackman. Her parents are deceased. On May 17, 1941, she married Charles P. Zierolf. He died May 30, 1984.

Surviving are 2 sons: Robert (Lindsay) Zierolf of Cincinnati and Donald (Bonnie) Zierolf of Toledo; 4 Daughters: Mary Zierolf of Cincinnati, Susan (Dan) Smith of Holgate, Anne Schroeder of Pandora and Eileen (Dennis) Griffin of Englewood, Co; 14 Grandchildren; 5 Great-Grandchildren; a Sister: Mary Westrick of Toledo. She was predeceased by a Great-Grandson, a brother: Walt Jackman and a Sister: Margaret Jackman.

Mrs. Zierolf was a homemaker, a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa; a former member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Hamler and a member of the Wide Awake Club of Hamler.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 6, 2003 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Hamler with Fr. Roger Bonifas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 pm on Sunday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa where scripture will be at 3 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Putnam County Council on Aging or Putnam Acres Activity Fund.

SCHROEDER, ELAINE M.
- December 14, 2003 - 2:41 PM

OTTAWA – Elaine M. Schroeder, 74, of Ottawa, died December 14, 2003, 2:54 am at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

She was born April 16, 1929 in Ottawa to Victor “Pete” and Marie (Williams)Lanwehr. On May 30, 1949, she married Fidelis “Jim” Schroeder. He died November 29, 1996.

Surviving are 4 sons: Randy (Ann Ellerbrock), Kevin (Judy) and Scott all of Ottawa, Jeff (Mary Jo) of Glandorf; 3 daughters: Sandra (Jerry) Heuerman of Leipsic, Diana (John) Kottenbrock of Ottawa and Christine (Harold) Bonner of Milledgeville, Ga; 17 Grandchildren; 7 Great-Grandchildren; 2 sisters: Betty (Junior) Schinkle of Roy, Utah and Ruth Ann Amick of Ottawa. She was predeceased by a Granddaughter and 3 brothers: Wilfred “Bill”, Donald “Duke” and Robert Lanwehr.

Mrs. Schroeder was the owner of Kenny’s Lunch in Columbus Grove for 18 years. She formerly worked at the L & K Restaurant in Ottawa.

She was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ottawa and a charter member of the Ottawa VFW Auxiliary.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am Wednesday at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 pm Monday and 2 to 9 pm Tuesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where the VFW Auxiliary will have a service at 7:30 pm Monday and a Scripture service will be at 3:00 pm on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

SMITH, CYRILLUS

KALIDA- Cyrillus L. Smith, 72, of Kalida, OH, died at 2:40 PM on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born February 12, 1931 in Kalida, OH to Anthony and Magdelena (Schroeder) Smith. On November 16, 1954 he married Dorothy Nartker. She survives in Kalida, OH.

Other survivors include 4 sons: Ron (Jean) Smith, Stan (Joan) Smith, Chuck (Sharon) Smith all of Kalida, OH, and Jeff “Bo” (Jeanne) Smith of Houston, TX; 2 daughters: Joyce (Rod) Herdman of West Chester, OH and Lisa (Tony) Kaverman of Ft. Jennings, OH; 13 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Leonard Smith of Delphos, OH, and Thomas (Dorothy) Smith of Ft. Jennings, OH; 4 sisters: Martha Fuerst and Ester (Ray) Halker both of Columbus Grove, OH, Norma (Tom) Kurley of Shelby, OH, and Florence (Thomas) Freeman of Kalida, OH.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Gilbert, Robert, and Edward Smith and 1 sister: Mary Brown.

Mr. Smith retired from Ford Motor Co. in Lima, OH in 1996 and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida, OH and its Holy Name Society as well as the Kalida Fish and Game.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 9, 2003 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kalida, OH. Fr. Scott Kramer will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 PM Saturday, June 7 and 2-9 PM Sunday, June 8 at Love Funeral Home in Ottawa, OH. Scripture service will be held at 8:30 PM Saturday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Unverferth, Leonard

New Cleveland – Leonard W. Unverferth, 82, of New Cleveland, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at 1:55 am at Calvary Manor Nursing Home, Glandorf.

Mr. Unverferth was born June 7, 1921 in Glandorf to Henry and Elizabeth (Brickner) Unverferth. On November 22, 1941 he married Laura Korte. She died June 21, 1977. He then married Vera Bass in April of 1978. They are divorced.

Survivors include two grandsons: Jay Miller of Glandorf and Don Miller of New Cleveland; a brother, Leroy (Dorothy) Unverferth of Findlay; and two sisters: Viola (Al) Bills of Upper Sandusky, and Ruth Fox of Cherry Hill, NJ.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Miller; and two grandsons: Bill and Roger Miller.

Mr. Unverferth was retired from Philips ECG, in Ottawa. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Cleveland; Ottawa Eagles; Ottawa Knights of Columbus; Ohio Polka Boosters; and a 25 year member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary 9th District Flotilla #3.

A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 am Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Holy Family Catholic Church in New Cleveland with Fr. Robert DeSloover officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Additional services include Ottawa Eagles 6:30 pm Tuesday, Scripture service 7:45 pm Tuesday, and Knights of Columbus Rosary 7:30 pm Wednesday all at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
