Bertha P. Woodson
Bertha (Bert) P. Woodson, 97, of Nelsonville, passed away Monday, May 10th, 2004 at Pine Hills Nursing Home in Nelsonville. She was born July 2nd, 1906 in Glouster, the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Tabler) Payton. She was the widow of the late Cecil Woodson who passed away July 12th, 1975.

Charles "Charley" Cline Moore
SAN FRANCISCO - Charles "Charley" Cline Moore - Born in Troy, N.Y., February 9, 1933, and passed away peacefully at the V.A. Medical Center, San Francisco, C.A. on May 7, 2004 after a long illness. He was a longtime attorney in S.F. Charley did his undergraduate studies at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army, Fort Benning, GA prior to attending the University of Michigan Law School. Upon graduation he moved to San Francisco where he began his law practice. Charley was a devoted and longtime member of The Family Club, where his greatest joy was producing many musicals and shows for his fellow members. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Moore of Athens and Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Cline of Albany. He is survived by his sister, Maryann Moore Merritt; niece, Virginia Emily Merritt; and a nephew, Jay Merritt. Graveside services will be Sunday at 1:30 P.M. at Alexander Cemetey, Hebbardsville. Charles E. Love Sr
ATHENS - Charles E. Love Sr., 87 of Sunbury, Ohio, a former resident of Athens passed from this world into heaven Thursday, May 13, 2004. He was the son of the late Ray and Mary (Bean) Love. He was Born January 29, 1917 in Kearney, Nebraska. When he returned to Athens he lived at the family farm "Rocky Point". Prior to World War II he moved to Wyandotte, Michigan and worked for Penn Salt Chemicals. He was drafted into the army in 1941 to 1945. He married
W. Pauline Steinmetz in 1944, with whom he had six children. In 1981 he married
Mrs. Irene Knuckles of Sunbury where he made his home and Country View Nursing Home. He was a member of Athens Church of Christ and attended Grace Baptist Church in Sunbury. He leaves his wife and children; Irene Love, Sunbury; children, David (Cindy) Love, Michigan, Dawn Love Ruhinen (Lincoln), Athens, Deborah Love, Athens, Julie Love Hilliker (Allen), Michigan, Jody Ray Love (Lisa), Virginia, Richard Knuckles, Ella Mae Holmes and Judy Ulery; grandchildren, Ruby, Tad, Allen, Jacob, Schana, Christopher, James, Sarah, Brandon, Carter, Demi, Amy, Mike, Kenny, Rick, Mindy and Tammy; and also 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister and son Charles Love Jr. (2001). Funeral services with military honors will be Monday, May 17, 2004 at Clark's Chapel Church, Athens. Calling hours are two hours prior to services, with services starting at 1 PM. Interment will be at Clark‚s Chapel cemetery. All veterans are welcome for honor guard. Mona Lee Chaney, 71, of Carbondale, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004 at her residence. She was born October 31, 1932 in Athens County the daughter of the late Allen and Inez Gabriel Blackford. She was married
to Clifford Chaney of Carbondale. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, David (Burnadette) Chaney, Andy (Helen) Chaney both of Nelsonville and Bruce Chaney of Carbondale, seven grandchildren, Robert (Jamie) Sears, Andrea (Darren) Trippier, Benjamin Chaney, Michael Chaney, Tony Chaney, Jenn Sears, Nickolas Chaney and Ashley Sears, one brother, Clayton Chaney of Millfield, special thanks to Sam Coffey of Nelsonville for all of his help and assistance and special friends Chalk (Mona) Dickerson of Carbondale and Carolyn Giffin of Athens. In addition to her parents, Mona was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Blackford. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville. Interment will be at New Marshfield cemetery, New Marshfield. Violet O. Williams, 93, of Carbon Hill, passed away Monday, May 24, 2004, at Fairfield Medical Center of Lancaster. She was born July 18, 1910, in Logan, daughter of the late Harry and Mae Eliza Skivers Mills. She is preceded in death by her husband John H. Williams. She is survived by three sons, Mickey Williams of Carbon Hill, Kenneth Williams of Logan and John Williams of Logan; two daughters, Gloria (David) Devol of Logan and Donna Bateman of Nelsonville; twenty-one grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; one brother Buddy Mills of Columbus. She is preceded in death by a son, Keith Williams; a daughter, Joan Amerine; two daughters-in-law, Mariam Williams and Martha Williams; a son-in-law, Ronald Bateman; four grandchildren. ATHENS - Ricky R. Losey, 29, of Athens, formerly of Glouster, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at O‚Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born May 20, 1975 in Athens, he was the son of Mae Losey of Glouster and the late Jerry Spears. He was a graduate of Trimble High School where he was a wrestler and boxer. He was in the top 10% sales at Ricart and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Gulf War. He is survived by his wife, Amy Sams Losey; three daughters, Mariah, Alexas and Elizabeth Losey all of the home; a sister, Jennifer (Mark) Barnhart of Glouster; two brothers, Jarrod (Trish) Losey of Glouster, and Eric Losey of Glouster; two Grandmother's Deloris Losey of Millfield and Leoma Collins of Glouster; his father, Rick Collins and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his and father-in-law and mother-in-law Gib and Mary Sams. Services will be Friday at 1 PM at Hughes Moquin Funeral Home, Athens with John Elswick officiating. Burial will be in Clarks Chapel cemetery where military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 21 and Athens VFW Post 3477. Ruth Bentley, 72, of Nelsonville, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Doctors Hospital in Nelsonville. She was born February 15th, 1932 in Athens County the daughter of the late Noah and Lovetta (Manning) Fouty. She was married
to Damon Bentley on April 30th, 1949. He survives.

Donald J. Simmons, 72, of Westerville, formerly of Nelsonville, passed away Monday, May 31, 2004 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. He was retired from Kokosing Construction after 37 years of service, was a veteran of the United States Army, and was a member of Carpenter Local 200.

Ralph M. Daines, age 83, of Albany died Tuesday morning, June 1, 2004 at his home. He was the son of the late Frank M. & Stella Blanche Knowlton Daines, born Dec. 12, 1920 at his family home, the same home he passed away in, Albany.

ATHENS - Linda D. Morris departed this life unexpectedly this past Memorial Day weekend surrounded by the things she loved: her home, pets and garden. She is survived by her husband George V. Morris, her parents Richard and Ann Ham, a sister Carol Ann Ham, three stepchildren George C. Morris, Stephanie Morris, Benjamin Morris, two grandchildren Lantz and Kai Morris.
Timothy D. Jerman
Timothy D. Jerman, 46, of Logan, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2004, at his residence. He was born June 25, 1957, daughter of the late Bernard and Brenda Wilson Jerman. He was married
to Marco Jerman of Logan. Tim is a renowned independent glass artist. He used the flameworking technique to create his glass sculpture. As a junior in high school, he was allowed to enter the glass program at Kent State University under Glass Master Henry Halem. In 1978 he moved to Hocking Hills to open a glass studio with Nick Delmatto. In 1981 Tim suffered a spinal cord injury in an auto accident and continued to create glass thereafter. His work has been published in Contemporary Lampworking, Volumes I & II and Contemporary Lampworking 2nd edition by Bandhu Scott Dunham, and in Flameworking by Elizabeth Ryland Mears. In April 1999, Tim demonstrated at the International Glass Arts Society in Tampa, Fl. He has two sculptures displayed in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of American Art. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Tobin Hathaway Frey of Seward, Alaska; a daughter, Adria I. Jerman of Athens; a brother, Chris Jerman of Newark.
